The 2021 CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 continues Wednesday April 7 with two action packed matches: Leon - Toronto FC on one side, while favorite to win the competition Club America takes on Olimpia of Honduras.

The CCL has historically been a tournament that has favored Mexican teams and this season things looked stacked in favor of the Liga MX sides once again. Club America has won seven international titles in the CONCACAF region and Santiago Solari may play a mixed squad in their opening match.

The oddsmakers at FanDuel have echoed the general sentiment of the pundits and both Club Leon and Club America are heavy favorites in their opening leg 1 Round of 16 matches.

Toronto FC are in preseason form and due to COVID restrictions will play most of their home games in the United States. Club Leon on the other hand are midtable in Liga MX, but with 13 games under their belts and playing at home in Leg 1 an upset seems unlikely.

Leon are -150 favorites and are on a three-game winning streak, Toronto FC while paying out well at +340, don’t count on them to take something from Mexico. Given both teams current state of form a over 3.5 goal margin could happen at +186 it could be a risky but interesting bet. Also placing a bet that Leon may be in the lead at halftime is paying out a reasonable +120. The likelihood of a TFC upset looks slim.

Olimpia - Club America

Club America could be counting their Eagles before the hatch sort of speak. Santiago Solari is rumored to be starting a mixed lineup, but for a player like Giovani Dos Santos, it could be the last time he has an opportunity to do something for the club. Olimpia on the other hand is first in Group B in Honduras.

This game could be a bettors dream for an upset, at +195 Olimpia are playing at home and against a mix lineup for America who have a big game against Tigres at the weekend, they could steal leg 1. A halftime result where Olimpia are in the lead is also paying out well at +270. America by not fielding the best possible team could be leaving themselves open for an upset by one of the best teams in Honduras.

By betting on Olimpia and almost certainly betting on Club Leon a $100 parlay would net the bettor $392 in winnings. The key to these matches is TFC’s preseason form and just how much of a mixed lineup will America play.
