Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are down since shortly before noon (ET). Meanwhile, some Telegram users also reported a slowdown and some notifications issues, but the app remains active and stable globally. Twitter is still working and making fun of the situation, of course.

The websites and apps for all of the services were responding with server errors. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” the official Whatsapp account tweeted. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The users started reporting the issues on DownDetector.com. It seemed like the outages are widespread, but Facebook, the owner of the apps, hasn’t said anything official about the impacts of users. It’s not currently known what’s causing the outage.

Whatsapp is down: messaging alternatives apps

So far 43% of users have reported problems with sending messages and 28% have failed when trying to establish a server connection. Of course, people are kind of freaking out and are trying to find alternatives to chat.

While it’s not the first time that these apps are down (remember 2019), many people still consider them as their favorite. But, maybe, it’s time to find another app at least for today. Here, you got some alternatives:

Telegram
Telegram is a messaging application created in 2013 by the brothers Nikolái and Pável Dúrov. It's one of the most common alternatives to Whatsapp.

Signal
This messaging application was developed by Open Source Systems, who created the end-to-end encryption of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

LINE
The app has all the features of WhatsApp and Telegram, but also allows calls to users who do not have LINE.

Discord
The San Francisco-based app is known for its free service and it’s pretty popular between gamers.

iMessage
If you got an Iphone or Apple product, you can use their own messaging system.
