Aaron Judge set the tone in the Bronx with a leadership message and a first-inning homer, guiding the New York Yankees to a home opener win over the Miami Marlins.
The New York Yankees kicked off their home schedule in style Friday night, with captain Aaron Judge sending a clear message about playing in the Bronx. Judge’s late-night directive of “Suits tomorrow” set the tone for the team ahead of the home opener at Yankee Stadium, ensuring everyone arrived crisp and prepared. The message carried over to the field, where Judge launched a first-inning home run to lead the Yankees to an 8-2 win over the Miami Marlins.

“There’s nothing like getting a chance to step into this box, in front of these fans,” Judge said according to MLB.com. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a game in April or a game in October. There’s no better spot.” The message extended beyond words, as Judge’s early home run demonstrated his commitment to leading by example.

Judge’s approach helped the Yankees seize control early. The team improved to 12-6 in home openers at the current Yankee Stadium, with timely hitting, aggressive base running, and disciplined play reinforcing the captain’s ethos — even on a night when league-wide storylines included Chase DeLauter leading MLB in home runs over Judge after just 4 games.

Setting the standard in the Bronx

Judge’s pregame message resonated throughout the lineup, emphasizing responsibility and focus in front of the home fans. The Yankees combined leadership and execution, with pitching staff holding the Marlins to two runs over 5 2/3 innings, highlighting how Judge’s mindset can elevate the entire team.

Beyond performance, Judge’s words underscored the culture he seeks to maintain in New York. From reminding teammates to suit up to setting an example with early impact at the plate, Judge continues to define what it means to be a captain in the Bronx. His leadership will be a cornerstone for the Yankees as they aim for a deep run this season.

In a surprising start, Chase DeLauter has opened the 2026 season as the home run leader, sitting ahead of Aaron Judge and other big names with twice as many long balls as the Yankees captain.
Chase DeLauter is doing everything right early this season, and in the recent series against the Seattle Mariners he delivered an impressive showing with four home runs. That performance has him sitting above Aaron Judge on the leaderboard after just the opening series of the year.

Judge, who also had a solid start with two home runs in the first three games, currently sits in sixth place on the MLB home run leaderboard, tied with several other players. It’s still early, and he has plenty of time to climb higher as the season progresses.

DeLauter’s hot start goes beyond the long ball. With five RBIs and a .353 batting average, he’s showing that the Cleveland Guardians could be in position to compete this season after taking three of four games from Seattle in the opening series.

Judge not leading any categories

After three games with the New York Yankees, Judge is not leading any major statistical category in 2026. The only areas where he ranks inside the top 10 are home runs and strikeouts, where he has seven, placing him seventh in that category.

Chase “Barry Bonds + Albert Pujols combined”DeLauter is not real

He literally just flicked a ball out the opposite way on a pitch that wasn’t even a strike against a Top 5 reliever in the game pic.twitter.com/vd3HPemAJf
— AT (@BaseballWRLD_) March 29, 2026

It hasn’t been a terrible start for Judge, though. He’s hitting just .154, well below DeLauter’s mark, but expectations remain high. Projections from Baseball Reference still have him finishing around a .302 average with at least 45 home runs this season.

What are the Guardians paying DeLauter?

DeLauter is currently playing under a one-year major league deal worth $3.75 million with Cleveland. It’s his first contract at the MLB level, and if he continues at this pace, he could be in line for a significantly bigger deal next season—though a potential lockout could complicate that timeline.

Captain Aaron Judge won his first ABS challenge, hit a two‑run homer, and explained how he plans to use the system strategically throughout the season for the New York Yankees.
Aaron Judge used the new Automatic Ball-Strike (ABS) system to his advantage on Friday as the Yankees beat the San Francisco Giants 3-0 at Oracle Park. In the sixth inning, Judge challenged a called strike against Robbie Ray and won. He then hit a two-run homer, giving New York the lead.

“It’s weird. It’s a new part of the game,” Judge said according to MLB.com. “You’ve just got to get used to it. I’m a hitter. I’ve got to focus on hitting. I’m not going to try to challenge every single one I think is close, but if there’s a big spot where I think I’ve got a chance to flip the count, I’m going to do it.”

After Giants fans booed Judge on Opening Day, his next game brought a key moment: he challenged Ray’s 1‑0 slider, which ABS showed just missed the bottom of the zone, giving him a 2‑0 count. Seven pitches in, he crushed a 93 mph fastball 405 feet at 109 mph off the bat.

Giancarlo Stanton added a homer later in the inning. This was the 60th time Judge and Stanton have homered in the same game, and the Yankees are 53-7 in those contests.

Aaron Judge #99 of the Yankees hits a two-run home run in the sixth inning against the Giants. Ezra Shaw/Getty Images

Judge shows early-season advantage with ABS

Judge’s success shows how ABS can help hitters, especially those like him who often get strikes called on pitches outside the zone. From 2017 to 2025, Judge had more low strikes called against him than anyone else. His ability to adjust quickly to the new system gives him an early edge this season.

Yankees’ lineup delivers on both offense and pitching

The Yankees’ pitching and lineup clicked on Friday. Cam Schlittler and four relievers combined for a one-hit shutout, marking the first time in franchise history the team opened a season with back-to-back shutouts. With Judge and Stanton providing big hits, New York showed both power and smart play, starting the season on a strong note.

Aaron Judge received a frosty reception at Oracle Park on Wednesday, as San Francisco Giants fans made their displeasure known during the New York Yankees captain’s first Opening Day trip to the Bay.
The New York Yankees dismantled the San Francisco Giants 7-0 to open the season at Oracle Park, but the dominant team performance couldn’t mask a rocky afternoon for the reigning MVP. Aaron Judge, returning to the Bay Area where he was nearly a hometown hero, was met with a relentless wave of derision from the Giants faithful.

The hostility stems from the infamous “Arson Judge” saga of 2022, when a premature report from the New York Post’s Jon Heyman briefly convinced San Francisco fans that the slugger was headed West.

Instead, Judge re-signed with the Pinstripes days later, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of a fanbase that was once certain they’d landed their cornerstone.

While Judge recently spoke about the “haunting” pressure of maintaining the Yankees legacy, the immediate pressure on Wednesday came from the stands, and it seemingly took a toll.

Oracle Park with a not-so-warm welcome for Aaron Judge 😅 pic.twitter.com/27U3GUYApC
— SF Giants on NBCS (@NBCSGiants) March 26, 2026

Boos ring out as Judge sets dubious record

The Giants‘ crowd hasn’t forgotten, nor forgiven, the 2022 free-agency drama. Every time Judge stepped into the box, he was greeted by a thunderous chorus of boos that appeared to disrupt his rhythm at the plate.

Judge turned in a rare, abysmal stat line, going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts. The performance made history for all the wrong reasons: Judge became the first reigning MVP in MLB history to strike out four times on Opening Day of his follow-up season.

Judge looks to bounce back

Despite the golden sombrero, the Yankees captain has a quick turnaround to silence the critics. New York continues their series in San Francisco on Friday night, giving Judge an immediate opportunity to show the Oracle Park crowd why he took home the hardware last year.

Judge is expected to remain at the top of the lineup for the second leg of the series. He’ll face a stiff challenge in southpaw Robbie Ray, looking to turn the page on a historic Opening Day slump.

Aaron Judge admitted the New York Yankees’ historic legacy is ‘haunting,’ reflecting on the pressure to reach championship glory in pinstripes.
Aaron Judge knows what it means to wear the New York Yankees uniform, but the team’s legendary history still weighs heavily on him. In a candid chat with Kevin Durant, Judge reflected on how the memories of past icons shape his pursuit of greatness.

“Walking into Yankee Stadium, seeing all those photos—Jeter, Posada, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle—it’s like a constant reminder. I want my picture up there. I want my teammates’ pictures up there. I want to be part of that history,” Judge said.

Despite starting the season with a 7-0 win over the San Francisco Giants, where Aaron Boone warned MLB that “we can beat you in a lot of different ways,” Judge remains focused on the bigger goal: bringing a World Series title back to the Bronx.

The Yankees haven’t won a championship since 2009, and although Judge has been a three-time AL MVP and 2017 Rookie of the Year, postseason success has eluded him so far.

Aaron Judge #99 of the Yankees reacts after a strike out against the Giants.
The weight of Yankees history

Judge’s comments highlight the pressure of following in the footsteps of some of baseball’s greatest players. Every corner of Yankee Stadium serves as a visual reminder of the standard he’s expected to meet. The legacy motivates him, but it also creates a “haunting” challenge as he aims to leave his own mark.

MVP talent meets postseason test

As Judge enters his 11th season, the focus is on whether his individual excellence can translate into team glory. While he remains a leading MVP candidate, the postseason represents the ultimate measure of his career, an opportunity to join the ranks of Yankee legends who captured a championship.

Aaron Judge faces mounting pressure as the New York Yankees enter 2026, with his legacy increasingly tied to delivering a World Series title.
The New York Yankees enter the 2026 season under scrutiny, but no player carries more weight than Aaron Judge. As the team looks to rebound from last year’s shortcomings, Judge faces increasing pressure not just to produce, but to lead New York to a championship that could define his legacy.

That expectation was highlighted by New York Post insider Joel Sherman. “Judge kind of needs it for his legacy… this is a historic hitter… but I think he’s 34 now, and the window is going to close on him, and you never know, on the Yankees,” Sherman said on the Pinstripe Post podcast. The message is clear: individual success is no longer the benchmark.

Judge’s résumé already includes multiple MVP awards and historic production, but last season’s early exit shifted the narrative. Now the question is whether he can turn that dominance into a World Series run, especially taking into account that Aaron Judge wants to play in the next WBC, a sign of how much he embraces big‑stage pressure.

Legacy now tied to postseason success

Judge has consistently delivered elite numbers, establishing himself as one of the defining hitters of his era, with 368 home runs, 830 RBIs and a .331 batting average across his career.

Aaron Judge #99 of the Yankees hits a single during the spring training game.
As he moves deeper into his 30s, the urgency grows for both Judge and the Yankees. The window to capitalize on his prime years is narrowing, making each season more significant in shaping how his career will ultimately be remembered.

Yankees must support their star

While Judge remains the centerpiece of the lineup, he cannot carry the team alone over a full season and into October. The Yankees’ success will depend on whether the supporting cast can match his level of performance when it matters most.

If New York finds that balance, Judge will have the opportunity to cement his place among the franchise’s all-time greats. If not, the conversation around his legacy will continue to center on what could have been.

Michael Kay couldn’t stay quiet after learning fans booed Aaron Judge during a Spring Training game, reminding everyone that kind of behavior is unacceptable.
Michael Kay, a longtime voice around the New York Yankees, didn’t hold back when addressing fans who booed Aaron Judge during a Spring Training game. He made it clear the reaction was out of line and warned it could carry consequences, noting players don’t easily forget moments like that.

Kay spoke about the situation on his ESPN New York show after Judge made an out. “You are out of your mind?” the veteran broadcaster said, calling the moment unusual and even challenging those fans to do it again so he could see it himself.

During his criticism, Kay referenced comments shared by Jon Heyman involving Reggie Jackson. Jackson acknowledged that many players, including himself, have been booed before, but added, “I never, ever, heard of anybody getting booed in spring training.”

Kay questions Yankees fans

Before posing a key question, Kay reminded Yankees fans that Judge is an MVP. Then he went straight at them: “What’s the purpose of booing a guy in spring training?” he asked listeners watching live on YouTube and tuning in on radio.

ICYMI: @RealMichaelKay cannot believe that Aaron Judge got booed at a New York Yankees’ Spring Training game.

Tune into The Michael Kay Show weekdays from 1P-3P on the @ESPNNewYork App & YouTube 📲

WATCH THE FULL SHOW HERE: https://t.co/ylvdmCGdz5 pic.twitter.com/Darm4uthQx
— ESPN New York (@ESPNNewYork) March 23, 2026

“What are you trying to accomplish? Trying to run him out of town?” Kay continued, pushing back on the logic behind the boos. He also reminded fans how they often complain when players like Judge don’t sign autographs. “Don’t you think they don’t remember?”

“Of all the people in baseball, you’re going to boo Aaron Judge?” Kay kept pressing. “Are you out of your minds?” He pointed out the team is still in Spring Training and Judge is hitting .250 with three home runs, four hits, and five RBIs.

Potential backlash for the Yankees

Kay warned that moments like this could hurt the Yankees long term. Other players around MLB notice these things, and it could impact how appealing New York looks as a destination. “Every player that admires Judge heard the boos. Do you think they want to play in New York after that?” Kay said, stressing the broader effect beyond just one moment.

At the same time, Kay made it clear he’s not against fans booing players altogether. His point was about timing. If it happens, it should come in meaningful moments when performance truly warrants it, not in Spring Training.

Aaron Judge has already made it clear he wants to play in the next World Baseball Classic. Now the question is how the roster will look with him returning to the national team for the tournament.
Aaron Judge made it clear he is ready to play again for Team USA in the next World Baseball Classic. However, looking ahead to the next tournament, other players could emerge as options in the outfield spot he usually handles. That means the roster may need to be built around him.

The report came from Underdog MLB on X (@underdogmlb). “Aaron Judge said he wants to participate in next WBC and 2028 Olympics.” The news comes as a surprise to some, considering Judge was not at his best at the plate in the last tournament, especially in the final against Venezuela.

Judge finished the 2026 World Baseball Classic with a .222 batting average. In the final, he was held hitless and struck out three times. Throughout the knockout stage, he struggled at the plate. He recorded just one hit in the semifinal against the Dominicans, along with one hit and one run against Canada.

The most viable option for Judge

If Team USA builds a roster around Judge for the next WBC, likely in about three years, he will be 36 years old. It is unclear if the New York Yankees will still use him regularly in the outfield by then. As a designated hitter, he could be more productive for Team USA, a role he has already handled at times in New York.

If Kyle Schwarber, who served as Team USA’s DH in 2026, is not available for that role in the future, Judge could take over that spot. He could easily fit into the top three or four spots in the batting order and provide solid production.

In 2025, Judge spent some time as a DH with the Yankees, although he admitted it was not easy. “It’s brutal. I’m a ballplayer. I want to play both sides of the ball. I want to be out there making plays on defense, helping my team out. I know hitting is important, but I feel like I can impact the team on both sides. I can’t wait to be back out there.”

Given that Judge hits well against both right-handed and left-handed pitching, with averages of .328 and .341 respectively, he remains a strong option at the plate against any arm. Still, as he has said himself, playing in the outfield also adds value for Team USA. He showed during the WBC that he has a strong arm capable of making throws to second and third base.

Team USA captain Aaron Judge reflected on the emotional disappointment following Venezuela’s dramatic win in the World Baseball Classic final, offering insight into the team’s mindset after the loss.
Team USA captain Aaron Judge led a roster of stars who struggled to process the sting of a 3-2 defeat to Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic final. The Americans had only spent two weeks together but had quickly bonded in Arizona, Houston, and Miami, making the loss feel especially painful.

“I’m still pissed about this,” Judge admitted, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, reflecting the raw emotions inside the clubhouse as players grappled with the outcome and the end of their WBC run.

Despite their struggles, Team USA showed flashes of competitiveness, though they recorded just three hits against Venezuela’s pitching staff and went 14 innings without a runner in scoring position.

Judge reflects on Team USA’s WBC campaign

“We came here, all of us put on this uniform, signed up to go out there and get a gold medal, and we fell short of that,” Judge said, highlighting the team’s high expectations and commitment, a sentiment consistent with his earlier comments about how World Baseball Classic crowds top the World Series.

Aaron Judge #99 of Team United States bats against Team Venezuela. Al Bello/Getty Images

The postgame scene underscored the emotional toll, as players stood silently watching Venezuela celebrate its first WBC title while processing their own disappointment.

Emotional intensity and fan support

Judge also praised the fans’ energy, describing the atmosphere as electric from the first pitch to the last. Even with that excitement, the disappointment of the loss lingered, and Judge made it clear that the frustration inside the clubhouse remained long after the final out.

Aaron Judge has experienced intense games in the World Baseball Classic, with crowds that made him admit they are even better than what he experienced during the World Series. For him, there is simply no comparison.
Aaron Judge is playing in his first World Baseball Classic, and so far he has been impressed by the crowds. For him, they have been much louder than what he experienced while playing in the World Series with the New York Yankees a few years ago. The size and intensity of the crowds is one of the biggest differences for the Team USA captain.

“The World Series I was in versus the crowd here and the one we had against Mexico, it’s bigger and better than the World Series. The passion that these fans have representing their country, representing their favorite players, there’s nothing like it,” Judge said after the win against the Dominican Republic.

Judge has seen completely packed stadiums while playing for the national team. The game against Mexico drew 41,628 fans, setting the attendance record for a pool stage game of the 2026 World Baseball Classic played in the United States. Japan, however, played a pool game that drew 42,340 fans in Tokyo.

Bryce Harper does not agree with Judge

Bryce Harper, who has also heard the roar of the crowds during the 2026 World Baseball Classic in two different stadiums, said clearly that what he experienced before the semifinal against the Dominican Republic does not compare to what he has seen with his MLB team.

GUNNAR ON THE GLOBAL STAGE 🌎 pic.twitter.com/jIzQYf4fsl
— loanDepot park (@loanDepotpark) March 16, 2026

“I don’t think anywhere has ever been as loud as Philly,” Harper said, even though he has played in front of larger crowds during the World Series. Before facing the Dominicans, he also said it was “the best of the best playing against each other,” a comment that also showed respect for Juan Soto, his former teammate with the Washington Nationals.

The semifinal crowd between the Dominican Republic and the United States reached a total attendance of 36,337 fans, with LoanDepot Park nearly full. The stadium has a capacity of 36,742, and that turnout was enough to set a historic attendance mark at the venue for a World Baseball Classic game.
