Mendy’s demand is reported by Sky Sports to be in the “multi million pound” range. After being found not guilty of the charges he faced since 2021, Mendy and his legal team are seeking a return of the wages he was deducted.

The funds Mendy seeks are from when the deductions started to when his contract ended in June of 2023, which led him to sign with French side FC Lorient in Ligue 1.

In July of 2023, Mendy was found not guilty by a jury at a retrial. He was found not guilty of sexual assault against several women but did reach verdicts on two other charges which led to the retrial.

Mendy’s attorney made a statement on behalf of the player, “Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorized deductions from wages.

“Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr. Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr. Mendy being charged with various offenses all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal.”

Benjamin Mendy returned to action for Lorient in only three games this season, playing a handful of minutes in a win and two defeats.

At one point Mendy had played for Monaco and Manchester City and capped by France 10 times.

While the rape charges case may be over, Benjamin Mendy has a new hurdle which is unpaid taxes and that could force the now Lorient player to file for bankruptcy. Nonetheless Mendy is in contact with Manchester City over his unpaid wages.

Mendy has put up his near $6.3 million mansion up for sale in order to pay his legal fees and tax debt he accumulated during his near 23-month layoff. Mendy’s accountant stated, “He was very short of money indeed, the cost of the legal case were over one million pounds.”

According to The Sun, Mendy is looking for up to 10 million pounds in back wages that were not paid to him. Mendy’s agent is reported to have told the court; they are “in negotiations with Manchester City to get back pay on the basis that he has been found not guilty”.

Since his not guilty verdict Mendy is trying to rebuild his career at 29, he signed a two-year contract with Ligue 1 club Lorient. Mendy at one time was capped 10 times by the French national team and won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The French soccer player was also cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in January. His last game was against Tottenham on August 2021, before being arrested and later suspended by the Premier League.

Mendy, who was released by City when his contract expired at the end of June, has denied all the charges made against him. Shortly after he was cleared, Depay sent a message of support for the 28-year-old.

Depay’s tweet gave a lot to talk about on social media, as many encourage athletes to address this situation, but he also faced some backlash.

“Both Mendy and Matturie have been moved because their case is so high profile. That can lead to safety and prisoner management issues, and it was felt Category A conditions might be better equipped to deal with any potential issues” was a comment a source gave The Sun on Mendy’s move.

Mendy’s codefendant Louis Saha Matturie was also transferred amid the same fears. Strangeways is considered to be one of the toughest jails in the country. As many as 600 prisoners arelocked up for 22 hours a day.
