Bo Bichette has surfaced in a report suggesting his knee may not be fully healthy, based on what scouts have observed. They are not impressed with how he’s moving, raising further concerns about his condition with the New York Mets.
Bo Bichette opened the season with some struggles at the plate but has started to show signs of improvement with better at-bats. Now, however, he’s the focus of a report raising concerns about his knee, with some scouts believing he may not be fully healthy, something that could become an issue for the New York Mets.

The report comes from Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated: “Scouts I’ve spoken with that have watched Mets‘ Bo Bichette run the bases don’t think he looks fully healthy. Bichette sprained the PCL in his left knee last September and appears to still be nursing the injury.”

According to Ragazzo, Bichette may have arrived in New York without fully recovering from the injury he suffered while with the Toronto Blue Jays, which limited him late last MLB season, although he only missed 23 games last year.

How many injuries has Bichette had in his career?

From 2016 through 2026, Bichette has dealt with roughly 10 injuries, ranging from minor issues to more serious setbacks. One of the most impactful came in 2024, when a calf strain sidelined him for 52 games. That same year, he also suffered a finger fracture, making it a particularly injury-plagued season.

Bo Bichette's first extra base hit as a Met is a double to drive in Juan Soto for the game's first run! pic.twitter.com/O17d90QVoI
— SNY (@SNYtv) April 3, 2026

Scouts’ concerns about his current condition add another layer of uncertainty. “He didn’t go first-to-third the other day,” one NL scout told Ragazzo. “Couldn’t beat out a ball that got away from Jeff McNeil either.”

For now, these are external evaluations from scouts not affiliated with the Mets. The team itself remains largely healthy, with the most notable absence being Juan Soto, who hasn’t played since April 3 and remains the biggest concern on the roster.

Bo Bichette showed signs of his form at the plate, with manager Carlos Mendoza praising his at-bats despite the New York Mets’ early-season offensive struggles.
After a rough start to his New York Mets career, Bo Bichette is beginning to show signs of the player the team expected, even if the results haven’t fully followed. Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants offered a glimpse of that potential, with several well‑struck balls that came up just short.

“Bo had some really good at-bats today,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, according to SNY. “That first inning, that double. The one he drove to centerfield. I thought the at-bats from him today looked like Bo Bichette.”

Bichette’s box score read 1-for-4, but he could easily have had three hits. He doubled in the first to drive in the opening run, and in the third he nearly cleared the wall in center, missing by a foot. “I thought I hit it OK,” he said. “If I thought I got it, I would’ve come out of the box a little different.” It was another step forward for a player who recently Bichette reflected on redemption tour as he works back into form.

Confidence building through quality at-bats

Despite a slow start, just 3-for-27 with no extra-base hits entering Thursday, Bichette is showing improvement. He’s struck out just once in his last four games after eight strikeouts in his first three, signaling that he’s adjusting to Major League pitching and settling into his new team.

Bo Bichette #19 of the Mets hits a double against the Giants.
Team struggles remain, but optimism grows

While Bichette’s resurgence hasn’t translated into immediate offense for the Mets, both he and Mendoza are focusing on process over results. “Maybe [we’re unlucky], but that’s not something to fall on. Should always be looking to do better, be better,” Bichette said.

The Mets will have another chance to see the infielder continue to find his rhythm as they take on the Giants in the next game of the series, hoping that quality at-bats turn into more production in the coming days.

Carlos Mendoza didn't fully commit to calling out Bo Bichette, Francisco Lindor, and other NY Mets stars after the loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The New York Mets dropped their first road series of the 2026 MLB season in disheartening fashion. Carlos Mendoza’s side struggled to close out the three-game matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals, and many put the blame in the lackluster performances from Bo Bichette and Francisco Lindor, among others.

Mendoza, however, didn’t go as far as to throw his players under the bus after the 2-1 loss in the series closer against the Cardinals. However, New York’s manager addressed the struggles at the plate. The fact Mendoza stumbled over his words only made everything look worse for him, Bichette, Lindor, and the rest of the Mets.

“We’ve got to get back to what we do well. [We’ve got] good hitters that, right now for a couple of games, they’re not getting it done,” Mendoza said—being mindful of the words he used—after the game, via @SNY_Mets on X.

Mendoza didn’t give out names, but he really didn’t have to. Fans in Queens know exactly whom his message was intended for. Bichette and Lindor are in the eye of the storm after yet another concerning outing. Frankly, virtually every player on the roster is under the microscope, though. But with Bichette and Lindor, the criticism is the loudest.

“We’ve got to get back to what we do well…good hitters that, right now for a couple of games, they’re not getting it done”

Carlos Mendoza on the Mets’ offense: pic.twitter.com/h5Io74YLS0
— SNY Mets (@SNY_Mets) April 1, 2026

Bichette is off to rough start

Since his arrival, Bichette has struggled tremendously on the Mets. So far in the season, Bichette has had the most at-bats on the team (27), but registers concerning numbers: .111 AVG, .138 OBP, and .249 OPS. Bichette heard the jeering from fans, and he eyes a redemption tour with the Mets, but as it stands, that tour has yet to announce its dates and venues.

Bichette’s 8 strikeouts are the most in New York, tied with Marcus Semien, another player who’s feeling the wrath of the fanbase in Queens. As the two offseason acquisitions struggle, David Stearns and the front office are getting an earful from fans, as well.

Lindor’s mistakes

Lindor has been a tad better than Bichette at the plate, but it’s every other area of the game where he has had a rough start to the 2026 MLB campaign. Against the Cardinals on Wednesday, Lindor made two mental mistakes that fans won’t soon forget. First, Lindor was picked off at first base with Juan Soto at the plate.

To make matters worse, Soto hit a solo home run two pitches later. That was New York’s lone run of the afternoon after being blanked in the previous game. Lindor’s struggles didn’t start there, either. In the first inning, he lost track of the outs and let a chance at a double play slip through his fingers, as he jogged into second base instead of making the play and throwing to first immediately.

It has not been Francisco Lindor’s day so far. He forgot how many outs there were and got caught wondering off first base 😬 pic.twitter.com/13RDHJy0Um
— js9innings (@js9inningsmedia) April 1, 2026

Mets are in trouble early

Lindor is off his game. New York’s focus is off, too. Mendoza shied away from calling his players out after only six games this season, but it may have been called for. The Orange and Blue must now tread lightly—if they’re not careful, their season may be over before they know it.

After a tough opening stretch, Bo Bichette delivered a go-ahead RBI and showed signs of turning his Mets season around, embracing pressure and beginning to shift the narrative in New York.
Bo Bichette wasted no time responding to early-season boos from Mets fans, delivering his first clutch moment with New York by driving in the go-ahead run in Monday’s 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. After a rough start to the season, the All-Star shortstop is showing why he was signed to a three-year, $126 million deal.

“I just want to be in a position to compete every at-bat, and I felt like I did a better job of that today,” Bichette said after the game, according to MLB.com, reflecting on the pressure he faced early in the season and the responsibility he feels to turn things around.

Bichette’s go-ahead RBI single came in the fifth inning, lining a 106.8 mph single the other way with runners on first and second. The hit highlighted a swift turnaround after a difficult season-opening series, in which he went 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts.

Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Bichette’s approach: “I thought he was more under control, not trying to do too much… When he’s doing that, those are some good signs.”

Bo Bichette #19 of the Mets in action during the game against the Pirates.
From boos to production

After Bichette faced boos at Citi Field during the season opener, he reacted to NY Mets fan boos with blunt honesty as they grew louder over the weekend. Instead of getting frustrated, he accepted the criticism and focused on improving. His performance on Monday showed he can turn pressure into results, giving the Mets an immediate boost.

Even with a rough start, Bichette’s hitting skills remain top-level. Last season, he finished second in the Majors in batting average behind Aaron Judge and ranked in the 98th percentile in expected batting average. His ability to bounce back quickly has been a key part of his game.

First step of a New York redemption tour

Bichette’s bounce‑back performance in St. Louis offered the first real sign that he’s ready to handle New York’s pressure. After a rough opening series and early frustration from the fan base, his response showed the ability to adjust quickly, exactly what the Mets need as he begins shaping his own redemption narrative in 2026.

Bo Bichette knows he’s off to a rough start with the New York Mets and that fans haven’t gone easy on him, but the third baseman believes their frustration is completely justified.
Bo Bichette didn’t shy away from addressing the boos he heard at Citi Field during the New York Mets’ first home series. The team’s new star was honest, saying he understood the fans’ reaction and admitted his struggles at the plate have not been good.

Bichette’s response to reporters about the boos and his performance was direct: “If anything, I thought it took too long. I get it. I thought my at-bats were terrible, too,” said the Mets third baseman, who is currently hitting just .071.

The start to the season hasn’t been easy, with only one hit in 14 at-bats. Criticism has been strong, but Bichette also said he’s “wanting a moment” with the Mets, something that could signal to fans that his adjustment period may not take long.

Criticism surrounding Bichette

Fans haven’t been the only ones criticizing Bichette. Reporters and analysts have also pointed out his struggles, though many have praised the way he has handled the situation, calling his response professional and appropriate.

Bo Bichette was asked if the boos at Citi Field caught him off-guard at all:

"If anything, I thought it took too long.
“Okay, you couldn’t have responded to this fanbase any better with that answer. Hopefully he gets things going soon,” wrote Tyler of The Wardy NYM on X, echoing the sentiment of many who appreciated Bichette’s accountability. He has also contributed one RBI so far.

Expectations were high after his 2025 MLB season with the Toronto Blue Jays, including a .467 performance against the Baltimore Orioles in a four-game series. Looking back, Bichette’s only other slow starts came in 2024 (.167 average) and 2021 (.167), making this early stretch one of the toughest openings of his career.

Bo Bichette is already generating significant buzz in Flushing, following up a torrid start to his Mets tenure by equaling a last season high for defensive runs saved at shortstop.
Bo Bichette is already generating plenty of buzz in Queens, though the early returns on the New York Mets‘ high-profile acquisition have been a tale of two players. While his bat has yet to heat up, his defensive tools are already proving to be as advertised.

During Saturday’s contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bichette turned heads by uncorking an 86.3 mph throw across the diamond, matching his top speed from last season with the Blue Jays.

For a Mets infield looking for stability, the throw served as a loud reminder of the elite athleticism Bichette brings to the shortstop position.

The offensive struggle: A slow start in the Big Apple

Despite the defensive fireworks, Bichette is finding himself under the microscope of a demanding New York fanbase. The “whole panorama,” as some scouts call it, remains a work in progress. Through the first two games of the series, Bichette has struggled to find his rhythm alongside fellow star Francisco Lindor.

Bo Bichette’s arm strength on this play: 86.3 mph. That matches his hardest throw from shortstop all of last season. pic.twitter.com/bXbAVKqhcu
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) March 28, 2026

On Saturday, Bichette went 1-for-5 with a run scored. While it’s a small sample size, he’s currently sitting on just one hit through nine at-bats this season.

The early numbers are admittedly lean: a .077 batting average and a .148 OPS, fueled by five strikeouts. For a player expected to average north of a hit per game, the slow start is noticeable, though, in the context of a 162-game marathon, it is hardly time to panic.

Defense leading the way

While the offense has been quiet, Bichette’s work with the glove tells a different story. He has been flawless in the field thus far, sporting a 1.000 fielding percentage with zero errors through his first two starts as a Met.

The transition from the Rogers Centre to Citi Field often comes with a learning curve. Whether it’s adjusting to a new clubhouse or the pressure of the New York spotlight, Bichette is still finding his footing.

However, if that 86.3 mph arm is any indication, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of his game catches up. Once Bichette fully adapts to his new surroundings, expect him to start making waves in the National League East.

Bo Bichette’s first season with the New York Mets hasn’t gotten off to an easy start, and the same goes for his teammate Francisco Lindor, who is already a veteran with the club, both have posted underwhelming numbers early on.
Bo Bichette has been handling third base for the New York Mets as expected, but his production at the plate hasn’t followed. He had already struck out seven times at the time of this piece, part of a slow start that has also affected Francisco Lindor, who went hitless in his first eight at-bats.

Bichette’s struggles go beyond the plate. With just one hit in 11 at-bats, it’s a concerning start for a player who was highly productive with the Toronto Blue Jays. Still, it’s early in the season, and he’s projected to hit around 15 home runs in 2026.

Lindor, meanwhile, had scored three runs during the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, reaching base primarily through walks in the first two games. It’s a similar pattern to his 2025 MLB start, when he struggled early and managed just one RBI across the first three games.

Bichette and Lindor still carry strong projections

Despite the slow start, Baseball Reference projects solid numbers for both players in 2026. Bichette is projected to hit .288 with 70 RBIs and 146 hits in roughly 507 at-bats, keeping expectations high for his impact this season.

I wonder how rigid the Mets plan to be with Bichette at 3B with Baty on the roster

Too many of these throws are an adventure

Especially when ground ball pitchers McLean or Peterson on the mound it's really no harm to have the better defender out there
pic.twitter.com/kX7YXhwlWH
— James Schiano (@James_Schiano) March 28, 2026

Lindor is projected for a .262 average with around 28 home runs, numbers close to his 2025 production (.267 with 31 home runs). He’s also projected to record 147 hits and drive in about 10 more RBIs than Bichette.

For both players to meet those projections, staying healthy will be key. Lindor played 160 games last season, while Bichette appeared in 139 but still finished strong with a .311 average, one of the reasons the Mets were drawn to him.

What are people saying about Bichette’s struggles?

So far, reactions to Bichette have been mixed. Some criticism has focused on his defense at third base, a position previously handled by Brett Baty, who had been solid there. With a new player at the position, concerns have started to surface.

“I wonder how rigid the Mets plan to be with Bichette at 3B with Baty on the roster. Too many of these throws are an adventure,” wrote James Schiano, pointing out potential issues, especially with ground-ball pitchers like McLean or Peterson on the mound.

WELCOME TO 2026 FRANCISCO LINDOR‼️

The Mets SS first hit of the season is a triple 😏🔥
pic.twitter.com/6ZAsgrhMUG
— SleeperMets (@SleeperMets) March 29, 2026

There haven’t been major defensive breakdowns yet, but chemistry remains a concern. Bichette is still adjusting to working with a relatively new first baseman, and the lack of efficiency has been noticeable through the first three games.

“Jorge Polanco and Bo Bichette have looked rough at the corners today. It didn’t cost the Mets a run, but it certainly cost David Peterson a lot of unneeded extra labor,” wrote Laura Albanese, referencing difficult throws from Bichette that extended innings against the Pirates.

Francisco Alvarez returns to the New York Mets lineup, ready to play a key role alongside Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr. in the team’s revamped 2026 roster.
The New York Mets got a boost on Saturday as catcher Francisco Alvarez returned to the lineup after missing time with back stiffness. The 22-year-old is set to contribute to a revamped roster that includes newcomers Luis Robert Jr. and Bo Bichette.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Alvarez’s readiness. “Better. Saw him earlier this morning, was getting treatment. Definitely feeling better, moving around fine. The plan is for him to go through his workout, he’s going to swing the bat. Everything goes well, he’s back in the lineup tomorrow (today),” Mendoza said, via SNY. Alvarez had exited Thursday’s spring game due to back stiffness but is now cleared to play.

Alvarez has been productive this spring, hitting .364 with a home run. Last season, he posted 11 home runs and 32 RBIs, and the Mets will lean on him for both offensive consistency and defensive leadership.

Key piece in Mets’ new era

Alvarez’s return highlights his role in the Mets’ restructured lineup. With Pete Alonso gone and Robert Jr. and Bichette added, Alvarez provides stability and helps blend new and returning talent, as Bichette aims to meet the NY Mets’ standards in pursuit of the World Series.

Staying healthy and performing consistently behind the plate will be crucial as the Mets aim to establish a strong team identity. A strong start from Alvarez can set the tone for both pitching management and overall team performance.

Eyes on Opening Day

The Mets open their 2026 season on March 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A fully healthy Alvarez gives the lineup balance, helps the pitching staff, and could be key in setting the early season rhythm.

Bo Bichette reached out to David Wright for guidance as he adjusts to third base, giving the New York Mets a valuable boost this spring.
David Wright, the seven-time Mets All-Star third baseman, returned to New York Mets Spring Training on Sunday with a clear goal: to help the team’s new third baseman, Bo Bichette.

Bichette, a key offseason addition, is learning to play third base this spring. The Mets are hoping Wright’s guidance will help him adjust quickly and make an immediate impact.

Wright ended his 14-year career with 242 home runs, 1,777 hits, and 970 RBIs, all Mets franchise records. He has also gained momentum in Hall of Fame voting, jumping from 8.1 percent to 14.8 percent in his third year on the ballot.

“I was excited and surprised when Bo reached out and asked if I was coming down and if I had a few minutes for him,” Wright said, according to MLB.com. “So I’m not sure what direction that’s going to go into, whether it’s third base or about New York, or whatever the question set is, but I’m excited to meet and spend some time with him.”

Former Mets player David Wright speaks at a press conference ahead of his number retirement ceremony.
Leadership beyond the field

Wright, who was Mets captain for six seasons, believes a group of veteran leaders can be just as effective as a single captain, especially for mentoring younger players.

“When you have several leaders in the locker room, it can be even better than having one,” Wright said. “It helps guide the young guys and set the tone for how we play and prepare.”

Bo Bichette knows exactly what’s waiting for him in Philadelphia when facing the Phillies, as the New York Mets keep preparing to the new season.
Expectations are sky-high for Bo Bichette and the New York Mets as the 2026 season approaches. With the two-time All-Star already tallying his first hits in a Mets uniform, the media has wasted no time pressing him on the challenges ahead, specifically his first looming trip to face the rival Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Appearing on Foul Territory Wednesday, Bichette was candid about the reception he anticipates from the Philadelphia faithful. “If I know Philly fans, it’s probably not going to be the best,” Bichette said with a smile. “I’ve never been booed by an opposing crowd like that… but I’m looking forward to it.“

The hostility in Philadelphia is well-earned. Bichette was the crown jewel of the Phillies’ offseason plans, with reports indicating he was on the doorstep of a seven-year, $200 million deal to join the reigning NL East champions. However, the Mets executed a late-inning steal, pivoting from a pursuit of Kyle Tucker to lure Bichette to Queens with a high-AAV, short-term contract.

While industry insiders initially viewed his move to Philadelphia as a formality, Steve Cohen and the Mets ultimately won the sweepstakes with a three-year, $126 million deal featuring multiple player opt-outs. That “last-second swoop” is exactly why Bichette expects a frosty welcome when the Mets make their first trip to Philly on June 18.

Bo Bichette #19 of the Mets looks on during spring training.

Bichette embraces the move to third base

Beyond the divisional rivalry, Bichette is focused on his defensive transition. With Francisco Lindor entrenched at shortstop, Bichette has shared his thoughts about the move to third base, a responsibility he hasn’t taken lightly during Grapefruit League play.

At $42 million annually, the Mets are betting that his elite bat-to-ball skills will more than compensate for the learning curve at a brand-new position. But, everything will be defined once he step up on the field during the regular season.

Bichette’s spring training stats

While it is early in the spring, the Mets’ coaching staff is closely monitoring Bichette’s timing at the plate and his range at the hot corner. He has been a fixture at the top of the order, typically slotted in the three-hole behind Lindor and Juan Soto.

Here are Bichette’s spring training statistics so far:

At-Bats (AB): 9

Batting Average (AVG): .222

Home Runs (HR): 0

Runs Batted In (RBI): 1

On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS): .533

Position: 3B
