Apparently, the New York Yankees can't enjoy nice things. As Carlos Rodon is set to make his long-awaited return in the 2026 MLB season, adversity has struck Max Fried.

When it rains, it pours for the New York Yankees. And just when the rain stops, it comes crashing down once again. Amid the joy for watching Carlos Rodon gear up for his first MLB game since late June, the Pinstripers announced Max Fried will now miss time.

“Today, the Yankees placed LHP Max Fried on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 8/14) with a left elbow bone bruise,” the team announced on its social media.

In true, yet extremely cruel, “an eye for an eye” fashion, the Yankees lose a left-handed starting pitcher as they activate another in Rodon. Fans knew the Bronx Bombers would have to make a roster move to accommodate Rodon, but not many expected to lose Fried in the process.

The 2026 MLB season has been truly testing, and it wasted no time proving Aaron Boone’s “incomplete” description of the Yankees true once again.

Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon #55 of the New York Yankees.

Fried and Rodon’s numbers in 2026

Through 15 games in the 2026 MLB season, Fried has posted a 2.81 ERA and a 2.8 WAR. Moreover, he has 86.1 innings pitched, 79 strikeouts, and a 0.996 WHIP. Fried had helped New York establish arguably the most dominant starting rotation in the American League.

As for Rodon, as he gears up to start against the Baltimore Orioles, he hopes to pick up right where he left off and turn it up a notch during the 2026 MLB campaign. Rodon has pitched 46.1 innings, striking out 52 opponents and posting a 1.252 WHIP. Moreover, his ERA on the season is 3.30, with a 0.7 WAR.

NY Yankees’ starting rotation

With Rodon coming off rehab and Fried headed to the injured list, the Yankees have witnessed their rotation shake up in the blink of an eye. Cy Young Award favorite Cam Schlittler and Gerrit Cole will still command the top of the depth chart.

However, they are both right-handed, and with Fried out for at least a couple of weeks, that leaves Ryan Weathers and Carlos Rodon in prime position to run away with the main LHP job. With Clarke Schmidt out as well, the last starting option is RHP Will Warren.

Needless to say, the Yankees have been through enough adversity all year long. There might be more where that came from, so the Bronx Bombers must buckle up for a bumpy ride. In more ways than one, this is their Odyssey.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to push toward a spot in the MLB postseason, but Dave Roberts is not satisfied with his team’s level of play.

The NL West is led by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are pursuing the highly coveted three-peat. Despite their position in the standings, the team’s recent games have not displayed the level of play manager Dave Roberts expects, and he did not hide his frustration about it.

“I say this because it’s just been four or five, six weeks of below average production in our offense. It’s just the truth, and I think we have just haven’t played clean baseball for quite some time, and that speaks to the defense,” Roberts said to the press after losing vs Milwaukee Brewers.

With 37 games separating the Dodgers from another postseason appearance, it is clear that they need to improve significantly to be considered serious contenders. Can Roberts turn things around in the short term?

Offensive production on the decline

During August 2026, the Dodgers faced a notable offensive slump, generating an August record of just 5–11 and seeing their team wRC+ drop to 93 in the second half of the season. Throughout this stretch, the lineup struggled with a .237 team batting average and a .672 team OPS, averaging merely 3.2 runs per game during their roughest span.

Tarik Skubal #29 of the Los Angeles Dodgers talks with catcher Ben Rortvedt #47.

Kyle Tucker has struggled to meet expectations with his second-half wRC+ dipping to 97, while Mookie Betts has endured a brutal cold streak fueled by an uncharacteristically low .231 BABIP. Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman has suffered an extended power outage with a total lack of extra-base hits in key situations, and Shohei Ohtani has seen his run-producing impact severely limited as opposing pitchers continually work around him without protection behind him in the order.

Home-field advantage in jeopardy for Los Angeles

The Dodgers’ recent skid has placed their postseason home-field advantage in serious jeopardy. After dropping three of four to the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles now trails Milwaukee by three games for the National League’s top record while also losing the tiebreaker edge to them.

Amid a dismal stretch over their last 16 games, the defending back-to-back champions have limped to an 18–21 mark since July 1, rapidly fading in the race for home-field positioning.

https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/aaron-boone-describes-ny-yankees-as-incomplete-amid-rough-patch-in-2026-mlb-season

Aaron Boone dropped an honest statement about the New York Yankees amid character-testing stretch of 2026 MLB season.

As the 2026 MLB season nears its conclusion, the New York Yankees have a lot on their plate. Ironically, though, it’s at the plate where the Bronx Bombers are struggling the most. Amid such testing times, manager Aaron Boone gave an honest assessment of the current lineup, which dearly misses Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton.

Although Boone has provided a significant update on Bellinger’s return, the anxiety in the Bronx won’t calm down until he is officially back. For the time being, the Yankees will be without their best bats, and thus quiet, head-scratching, criticism-provoking offensive outings are to be expected on a troubling daily basis.

After New York avoided a sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-3 victory in the series finale, Boone was sincere while addressing the Bronx Bombers with the MLB postseason looming on the horizon.

“This season has tested our character and our resilience,” Boone admitted, via MLB.com. “It’s games like this we continue to find ourselves in. We just got to keep fighting and know that we’re an incomplete team, but we have a chance to be who we want to be.”

Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees.

NY Yankees know they are short-handed

Boone didn’t sugarcoat his message, though he ended it with an encouraging exclamation point. The Yankees are missing key players in almost every area of the game. Moreover, as Carlos Rodon nears his return, Boone has another dilemma brewing.

The setbacks have not only put the offensive struggles in the spotlight, but the criticism has also been directed at Boone for his decisions regarding the lineup and, of course, general manager Brian Cashman, who is responsible for the Yankees’ rather quiet MLB trade deadline.

NY Yankees struggle to get hot

Since the deadline, the Yankees are 6-6, which perfectly reflects the team’s status. Instead of looking like a steamrolling unit, the Pinstripers appear bang average, and that simply won’t cut it come playoff time.

Fortunately, though, New York expects to be fully loaded come October, and that’s when Boone’s side may find its best self. Whether it will have enough firepower to go all the way, only time will tell.

If the Yankees fall short, it won’t take long before fans are at Cashman and Boone’s throats over their cheap, penny-pinching approach at the deadline. As Boone, Cashman, and every member of the New York Yankees should know by now, that comes with the job.

Even as injuries continue to stack up across the roster, the New York Yankees are closing in on the return of Carlos Rodón—a welcome addition that leaves manager Aaron Boone facing a good problem to have in managing his starting rotation.

Reinforcements are on the horizon for the New York Yankees as left-hander Carlos Rodon prepares to return from the injured list. While manager Aaron Boone confirmed anticipation is building for Rodon’s activation, the skipper remains uncertain about how the starter will be deployed.

According to the New York Daily News‘ Gary Phillips, Boone is undecided on Rodon’s exact role ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles.

Although Boone is confident Rodon’s elbow is fully healthy, managing his pitch count alongside the team’s current rotation schedule makes fitting him into Tuesday’s game plan a delicate balancing act.

Meanwhile, fellow right-hander Clarke Schmidt is also nearing a return, according to Boone. His impending activation should bolster a rotation that has felt the strain of missing both Rodon and key contributors like Cody Bellinger.

Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees.

Rodon’s rehab assignment leaves durability questions

Beyond working his way back from injury, Rodon’s workload in the minors remains the primary factor in how New York handles his return. Despite initial plans for a Triple-A stint, Rodon’s latest outing came at the Double-A level.

During that rehab start, Rodon tossed 4.1 scoreless innings on 58 pitches. While he is physically cleared to join the active roster, he isn’t fully ‘stretched out’ to throw a standard 80-to-100 pitch starting workload.

Rodon’s pitch count limitation adds to a growing list of roster challenges for the Yankees. On the offensive side, Giancarlo Stanton remains sidelined on the injured list, while Aaron Judge still lacks a definitive timetable for return, according to Boone’s latest injury updates.

Potential options for Rodon on his return

The best potential path forward for the Yankees is to activate Rodon on Tuesday in a piggyback or limited-pitch-count role alongside a length-provider like Ryan Weathers or Will Warren. Hard-capping Rodon at roughly 60 pitches keeps his arm safe while giving the team elite major-league frames and avoiding burning through the rest of the bullpen early.

Alternatively, giving Rodon one final minor league rehab start to stretch him out past 75 pitches is a cleaner long-term solution, but it delays his impact during a tight pennant race. Transitioning him via initial piggyback outings gets his left-handed arm back immediately while building him up to full capacity for the postseason.

Right-hander Clarke Schmidt remains a key missing piece for the New York Yankees' pitching staff, but manager Aaron Boone provided an encouraging update regarding his eventual return to the mound.

Expectations remain high for the New York Yankees down the stretch of the regular season, as fans eagerly await the return of several key contributors currently on the injured list. Among those working their way back to the Bronx is right-hander Clarke Schmidt, whose progress was recently addressed by manager Aaron Boone.

Boone revealed that the team hopes to have Schmidt back on the mound in the coming days, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Furthermore, the Yankees manager noted that the current plan calls for Schmidt to build up out of the bullpen.

“That can always change as the weeks and months unfold, just depending on our needs,” Boone said regarding Schmidt’s potential return and designated relief role. “But that’s kind of how we’re looking at it right now.”

Meanwhile, questions remain around Cody Bellinger’s timeline as the All-Star outfielder continues his recovery and didn’t provide a exact date to return, leaving the Yankees eager to get his bat and defense back into the everyday picture for the upcoming postseason push.

Clarke Schmidt #36 of the New York Yankees poses for a photo.

Key offensive stars working toward Yankee Stadium returns

In addition to Schmidt, the Yankees are holding out hope for two vital anchors in their lineup. One is veteran slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who is moving closer to a return according to the team’s latest injury report.

The other star advancing on his recovery is captain Aaron Judge. While the powerhouse outfielder has ramped up his rehab activities, Boone cautioned that the team still lacks a definitive timetable for his activation off the injured list.

Yankees full injury updates and roster breakdown

Along with Stanton and Judge, both Bellinger and starter Carlos Rodon continue their respective rehab progressions in hopes of joining the roster for the stretch run. Here is a full look at where things stand on the Yankees‘ injured list:

The New York Yankees and Aaron Boone are hopeful for Cody Bellinger’s return during a crucial stretch of the 2026 MLB season.

While Cody Bellinger hasn’t made any promises about his return, the New York Yankees have plenty of reasons to be optimistic. According to New York Daily News Sports beat writer Gary Phillips, Aaron Boone revealed to the press that Bellinger is expected to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A this week.

The manager also added that the process will begin Tuesday, and Bellinger could be activated as soon as next weekend. The return of one of the Pinstripes’ key figures is slowly becoming a reality.

This is a crucial moment for the Yankees, as they look to keep pace in the AL East. With an uncertain timeline for Aaron Judge’s return, having Bellinger back in the lineup could be extremely important for the team.

The Yankees need Cody Bellinger back

Before going down with a leg injury in late July, Cody Bellinger was putting together a solid 2026 campaign, batting .259 with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, 97 hits, and 10 stolen bases across 102 games. As the postseason push intensifies, his impending return can’t come soon enough for the lineup.

Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees.

His elite positional versatility across all three outfield spots and first base—paired with his proven clutch hitting and championship experience—provides the essential balance, defensive stability, and middle-of-the-order presence this club desperately needs to navigate the stretch run.

The next challenges for New York

Starting August 16, 2026, the New York Yankees kick off a crucial stretch in the American League East with three pivotal upcoming series. After closing out their visit to Toronto this Sunday, the Yankees head to Oriole Park at Camden Yards to face the Baltimore Orioles from August 18 to 20.

They will then return home to Yankee Stadium to host the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-game series from August 21 to 23, followed by a high-stakes three-game homestand against the Houston Astros from August 25 to 27.

What is Clarke Schmidt’s current status?

Aaron Boone recently addressed Clarke Schmidt’s status, expressing hope that the right-hander will be back on the mound in the coming days. The update offers a reason for optimism for the Pinstripes as Schmidt continues his recovery.

Nothing has gone the New York Mets' way in the 2026 MLB season, but rookie A.J. Ewing is looking to deliver on an individual promise.

What was otherwise a promising rookie campaign for A.J. Ewing is under some scrutiny amid a dip in production in August. Needless to say, the New York Mets‘ present makes for a tough environment for a first-year player to shine, but Ewing still holds himself to a high standard, even if it’s only his first season in MLB.

That was made clear as the 22-year-old issued a powerful and honest statement about his recent outings. Instead of searching for excuses, the former fourth-round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft vowed to improve and promised results to interim manager Andy Green and the devoted fanbase in Queens.

“I am not enthusiastic with how the results have been recently, but I am more than uber-confident that I am going to turn it around and I am going to finish the year how I am going to finish,” Ewing stated, via the New York Post.

Ewing’s first year in the Show

Selected with the 134th overall selection in the 2023 MLB Draft, Ewing patiently waited for his opportunity with the Mets. Finally, he made his debut in the Show on May 12, 2026, when New York blew the Detroit Tigers out of the water by a score of 10-2.

A.J. Ewing #9 of the NY Mets.

Ewing had one hit and two runs in his debut. Since then, Ewing has had his ups and downs, but particularly in August, his production has hit a big bump in the road. Still, the young center fielder expects to turn things up a notch soon and end the season on a bright note, albeit any postseason dream is already completely crushed for the Orange and Blue.

Ewing’s stats so far

Leaving this past month out of the equation, Ewing has batter at .265 with a .338 OBP, .399 SLG, and .737 OPS. However, his numbers so far in August bring Ewing’s stats down considerably. As a result, Ewing now averages .255 on the season, along with a .326 OBP, .386 SLG, and .712 OPS through 82 games with the Mets.

What has otherwise been a week of great news regarding Cody Bellinger hit a sudden bump as the New York Yankees' star raised eyebrows with an update.

Cody Bellinger couldn’t give much certainty when asked about his return date for the New York Yankees during the 2026 MLB season. Although Bellinger is sending the Yankees better signals than other injured players like Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, the three-time All-Star remains uncertain about when he could return to action.

With the Yankees struggling to string together solid at-bats, ace Gerrit Cole urged the offense to step it up amid the absences of Bellinger, Stanton, and Judge. Unfortunately, no one knows for certain when the trio will return. That was made clear as manager Aaron Boone provided an uncertain timeline for Judge, and Bellinger didn’t do much to clear things up with his latest comments, either.

“I think that that would be very positive if I could [be activated before Sept. 1]. I’m feeling really good. I’m just kind of right on track of a normal strain,” Bellinger admitted to reporters, via NY Daily News. Bellinger did confess to feeling tightness in his hamstring, though.

NY Yankees race the clock amid Bellinger’s recovery

By the way Bellinger phrased his answer, stating it would be “very positive” but making no comment on whether it would actually be realistic for him to be back before August ends, it appears he has his fair share of doubts. September 1 is an important date because that’s when MLB rosters expand from 26 to 28 players.

Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees.

The sooner New York can get Bellinger back on the active roster, the better, especially considering Stanton and Judge must be activated, too, and are expected to return after Bellinger. If Bellinger returns before the roster deadline, the Yankees can make the pertinent change with time to breathe, and then it would only be a matter of activating Stanton and Judge to fill out the 28-man roster.

When the time comes, the Bronx Bombers will have to make a decision, and most signs point to one of Amed Rosario, Spencer Jones, or even the wet-gunpowdered designated hitter Ben Rice being demoted from the active roster.

NY Yankees need Bellinger back

Regardless, it would all be much easier if Bellinger returned from his Grade 2 hamstring strain before August ends. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that will happen. Bellinger is on the right track, but even he didn’t dare make such a promise.

The veteran outfielder and first baseman knows that in a passionate market like the one in the Bronx, there aren’t many things as painful as unfulfilled promises. It’s better not to get ahead of oneself, even if it means putting the organization in a compromising position going forward.

Although Aaron Judge is trending positively in his injury rehab, Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees are still wary.

Aaron Judge continues to work his way back onto the New York Yankees‘ lineup after suffering a fractured right rib. Recently, Aaron Boone revealed another important step in Judge’s recovery, as the star outfielder has resumed some light throwing and catching activities. When exactly Judge may make his long-awaited MLB return, however, remains uncertain. Boone didn’t dare to set a definite timeline.

“Aaron Boone said a timeline of a month ‘could be’ in play, though nothing is set in stone,” as reported by Gary Phillips from New York Daily News Sports on X.

The Yankees‘ manager avoided setting a formal one-month window for Judge’s return but did hint at it. It would be on par with the initial reports regarding the star slugger’s injury and projected comeback. Many reports suggested Judge would be back in mid-September, and Boone‘s timeline—uncertain and tentative as it was—would put him on track for that return.

NY Yankees are missing Judge

The Pinstripers desperately need Judge back. As of late, the at-bats have turned dry, leading to Gerrit Cole urging the offense to step up its production amid the absences. The recent hardships have also led to a mea culpa, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. got brutally honest about his struggles.

Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees.

So far, the self-criticism has yet to translate into better results, though. As much as the Yankees yearn for Judge’s return—along with Cody Bellinger’s and Giancarlo Stanton’s—they know better than to rush their stars back, and Boone made that clear as well.

“We expect him back, but we’re in the early stages of baseball activity,” Boone stated, via USA Today, about Judge’s injury recovery. “Hopefully things continue to go well.”

NY Yankees won’t rush Judge

Timelines aren’t entirely solid, least of all those announced as tentatively as Judge’s latest one, and if the player isn’t fully healthy by the time the original target date arrives, New York will take as much time as he needs.

The Bronx Bombers themselves may not have that much time amid a heated postseason race, but that’s a different story. Whether it could come back to bite them or not, Boone and his staff have made their preference clear.

Regardless of what happens next, the Yankees must lie in the bed they’ve made and hope for a good night’s rest, even in the City That Never Sleeps.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ victory over the New York Yankees came at a steep cost for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who suffered a concussion after a collision at third base.

The 3-1 victory over the New York Yankees at Rogers Centre unfortunately came with a bitter taste for the Toronto Blue Jays. After taking a hard hit at third base, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was ultimately placed on the 7-day concussion IL, as announced by the team’s official X account.

That said, Guerrero will unfortunately miss six games with his teammates: the final two games of this weekend’s series against the Yankees, the entire series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, and the series opener against the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium.

Every win is crucial at this stage of the MLB season. The Blue Jays sit fourth in the AL East and need all of their top stars at full strength if they want to secure a spot in the postseason.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s impact on the Blue Jays

Throughout the 2026 season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has posted a .263 batting average with 113 hits, 7 home runs, and 46 RBIs in 430 at-bats. However, after being forced to leave the game against the Yankees following an accidental blow to the head with George Lombard Jr., his presence will be sorely missed this week.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. #27 of the Toronto Blue Jays runs home to score a run in the sixth inning.

As the Blue Jays navigate a critical stretch of divisional matchups, missing Guerrero’s middle-of-the-order bat and defensive presence at first base leaves a massive hole in Toronto’s lineup at a vital juncture of the season.

Replacing Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. unavailable to play this week, manager John Schneider has a few internal options to plug the hole at first base. Spencer Horwitz stands out as the primary and most natural candidate to take over the reps, given his experience and offensive profile.

Schneider could also rely on younger internal options like Charles McAdoo to shuffle his utility players to maintain defensive stability. Mix-and-matching these lineups will be essential for Toronto as they attempt to sustain offensive production through a high-stakes stretch of divisional play.

The New York Yankees and manager Aaron Boone are hoping to have Aaron Judge back as soon as possible during a crucial stretch of the MLB season.

Recently, Cody Bellinger showed positive signs of his potential return to the field with the New York Yankees. According to Aaron Boone, Aaron Judge has started playing catch, a clear indication of his progress and a potential step toward his eventual return.

Greg Joyce of The New York Post also made it clear that Judge’s recovery process is progressing as expected: “Still has a ways to go in building up to full baseball activities, but he has now at least started that process.”

The Bronx Bombers are looking to step on the gas down the final stretch of the MLB regular season and enter the postseason in the best possible shape. Can they have No. 99 back in the lineup soon?

Aaron Boone misses Aaron Judge on the field

Before being sidelined with a stress fracture in his right rib, Aaron Judge was putting together another strong campaign for the Yankees, posting a .248 batting average, 17 home runs, and 38 RBIs across 214 at-bats. However, the team’s offensive production has plummeted since losing its captain’s presence at the plate.

Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees sits in the dugout.

Without Judge’s elite power and ability to drive in runs, the Yankees’ lineup has struggled to generate run support, forcing the pitching staff into low-scoring games as overall team statistics and scoring averages have taken a noticeable hit down the stretch.

What’s next for the Yankees?

Starting August 15, manager Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees face a crucial stretch of divisional and high-stakes matchups. They first wrap up their road series in Canada against the Toronto Blue Jays (August 15–16) at Rogers Centre, followed immediately by a three-game divisional clash on the road against the Baltimore Orioles (August 18–20) at Camden Yards.

Returning home to the Bronx, Boone‘s squad will then launch a nine-game homestand beginning with a rematch series against the Toronto Blue Jays (August 21–23) at Yankee Stadium.
