According to Jeff Passan, Morton agreed to a one-year deal with the Orioles worth $15 million. The right-handed pitcher will join the rotation alongside other experienced arms like Zach Eflin, who has been with Baltimore since last season.

That gutsy showing made an impact on Morton’s Braves teammates who were quick to point out the 37-year-olds courage. “And if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about Charlie Morton… I’m not sure what does” Freddie Freeman said.

“(Morton) was doing exactly what we hired him to do… Bring credibility. He did it all year. He did it tonight. And I hate it for him. He really is the kind of guy that would break his leg and say he’s sorry” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said.

“Everyone knows his résumé, and his humility is something you wouldn’t expect from someone with that kind of résumé. He’s just so genuine all the time, very open with anything he’s thinking to anybody. Doesn’t matter if you’ve never played a day in your life or you’ve got 20 years in the big leagues” Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud said.

The Braves take their 1-0 series advantage over the Astros back to Minute Maid Park tonight at 8:09 PM EST for Game 2 of the fall classic.

Morton’s 2021 record stands at 13-5 with a 3.47 ERA, in 28 starts for the first place Braves. At the moment Morton leads the Braves in wins, strikeouts, and ERA, and his fastball is the best it ever has been.

Charlie Morton is set to earn $20 million in salary following this season, a $5 million salary increase for the former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher. Morton is currently in his second stint with the Atlanta Braves after he began his career with them in 2008.

Morton has an overall record of 106-94 and over 1,400 career strikeouts, he was atwo-time all-star in 2018 and 2019, and won the World Series with the Houston Astros in 2017. The team has an option year for Morton at $20 million in 2023.
