The Chicago White Sox lose Brooks Baldwin for the season, forcing early infield adjustments and opening the door for deeper roster evaluation in 2026.
The Chicago White Sox are already adjusting their roster plans early in the season after losing Brooks Baldwin to a significant injury that will keep him out for the rest of 2026. The setback forces the organization to rethink its infield structure and evaluate depth options sooner than expected.

“INF Brooks Baldwin elected to undergo a season-ending UCL internal brace procedure on his right elbow on 4/1,” reported Brooke Fletcher. “Baldwin… is expected to be ready by spring training.”

The 25-year-old had not yet appeared in a regular-season game, but his absence removes a controllable piece from a young roster still trying to define roles and long-term contributors.

Baldwin’s absence reshapes infield depth plans

Baldwin entered the year as part of Chicago’s infield mix, bringing experience across 136 MLB games with a .661 OPS. While not a headline name, his versatility gave the White Sox flexibility when building lineups and managing matchups.

Brooks Baldwin #27 of the White Sox throws to first base against the Mariners. Alika Jenner/Getty Images

Meanwhile, the White Sox reportedly set a steep price in Luis Robert Jr. negotiations, highlighting how the organization is handling its core pieces amid early‑season challenges.

Now, that depth takes a hit. With Baldwin sidelined, the team will need to rely more heavily on internal options, potentially accelerating the development timeline for younger players or fringe roster pieces.

Opportunity opens for roster evaluation

His absence leaves a measurable gap in both depth and reliability, forcing the White Sox to redistribute playing time across the infield. Rather than replacing a high-impact bat, the focus now shifts to identifying which players can match or exceed that level of production while handling consistent major league at-bats.

John Schneider heads home empty-handed after failing to win the series against the Chicago White Sox, admitting the team hasn’t been playing the way it should, despite facing a relatively beatable opponent.
John Schneider heads back home with a 4-5 record after the Toronto Blue Jays were swept by the Chicago White Sox in a series that quickly unraveled. Not only did they lose Alejandro Kirk to injury, but Schneider also admitted the team needs to get back to its fundamentals.

The manager’s comments were shared by Keegan Matheson on X: “We’ve got to get back to playing our baseball. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing, where you’re playing or what time you’re playing them, if you don’t play your baseball, good things don’t happen.”

The Blue Jays showed some fight in the opening game of the series, putting pressure on Chicago, but it wasn’t enough. By the finale, things had gotten worse, as Addison Barger exited early with an ankle issue.

Can the Blue Jays bounce back?

It’s not the worst possible moment for Toronto, and there’s still plenty of time to recover and push toward a postseason return. At this same point last season, after nine games, the Blue Jays held a similar 5-4 record, even after opening 2025 by losing a series to the Baltimore Orioles.

Oh NO Daulton Varsho pic.twitter.com/7IWnzcyovV
— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) April 5, 2026

Toronto struggled throughout April last year, finishing the month 14-16, but still managed to find momentum later in the season and ultimately reached the postseason, even battling the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series in what became a significant achievement for the club.

Schneider may be slightly limited without Bo Bichette, but it’s unlikely that absence alone explains the sweep. The White Sox also made solid offseason adjustments and came in with a roster hungry to win.

Chicago White Sox set a high asking price for Luis Robert Jr., initially targeting a key Mets player before New York adjusted the deal to finalize the trade
The Chicago White Sox made it clear they would not move Luis Robert Jr. without a major return. During early trade talks with the New York Mets, Chicago set a high asking price, targeting key young talent as part of any potential deal.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Chicago opened negotiations by targeting Brett Baty in a potential deal for Luis Robert Jr., but New York chose not to include him.

The negotiations reflected Chicago’s firm stance despite Robert Jr.’s recent inconsistency. Even after two uneven seasons, the White Sox valued the 28-year-old outfielder highly and were unwilling to settle for a lesser package.

Mets push back on initial demands

New York explored alternatives rather than including Baty in the deal. The Mets reportedly offered Mark Vientos at one stage, but Chicago was not interested in a bat-first option, keeping the talks at a standstill.

Luis Robert Jr. #88 of the Mets stands at bat during the game. Ishika Samant/Getty Images

The gap in valuation showed how far apart both sides were early in the process, with the White Sox focused on securing a cornerstone piece rather than depth or complementary players.

Final deal reflects strategic compromise

The trade was eventually completed with Luisangel Acuña Jr. and pitcher Truman Pauley heading to Chicago, a package that satisfied the White Sox without forcing New York to part with Baty.

For the Mets, the move addressed their center field needs while protecting a key piece of their infield plans. With Robert Jr. already showing strong early production, the outcome suggests both teams stayed firm to their priorities before reaching a balanced agreement.

After five years in MLB and once being a top prospect in 2021, it was still not enough for Jarred Kelenic to earn a spot on the Chicago White Sox Opening Day roster in 2026.
The Chicago White Sox left Jarred Kelenic off their roster, the same player who was once the No. 4 overall prospect in MLB in 2021 and seen as having a bright future ahead. Last season he played with the Atlanta Braves, but he will not be part of the 2026 Opening Day roster.

Brooke Fletcher was among the first to report the news on X (@brookfletcher). “Jarred Kelenic and Drew Romo have been informed they won’t make the 26-man roster. Both will remain in major league camp.” The situation for the former top prospect is not as complicated as it may seem.

Kelenic will still have the chance to work his way back onto a major league roster. His exit from the Braves was difficult, but he did not have a guaranteed spot elsewhere after leaving their system. With Chicago, the deal never assured him a place on the roster.

Kelenic has faced struggles

Since reaching the majors in 2021, Kelenic has dealt with inconsistency. He has struggled to lock down a starting role or build sustained production. With the Braves in 2024, he appeared in 131 games, his highest total in a season, but his struggles in 2025 ultimately pushed him out of the team’s plans.

Jarred Kelenic says this is the most confident he’s ever been heading into a season.

The former top 10 pick opened up about his struggles throughout his career and why he’s in a better place with the White Sox. https://t.co/gHXRk5PEcE 🎙🎧 pic.twitter.com/Pyt2iEo0QT
— Chuck Garfien (@ChuckGarfien) February 24, 2026

“It’s okay when stuff isn’t going right, it’s inevitable. But you have to have the ability to take a step back and know everything will be okay,” Kelenic told Chicago Sports Network while reflecting on how difficult it has been to deal with those struggles throughout his MLB career.

During 2026 spring training, he also had issues at the plate, hitting just .179. Still, he managed to produce two home runs, five RBIs and five walks, though he struck out 12 times in 14 games. It was another tough spring for him, similar to what other players have experienced.

Carlos Mendoza shared his expectations for Luis Robert after the Mets acquired the former White Sox star, emphasizing health and the impact he could bring to New York.
The New York Mets reshaped much of their roster this offseason, drawing attention to changes across the pitching staff and the infield. Yet inside the clubhouse, manager Carlos Mendoza has also been closely watching a new addition to the outfield who could quietly become one of the team’s most impactful players.

That player is Luis Robert, the former Chicago White Sox star acquired by New York in a trade that sent Luisangel Acuña and minor-league pitcher Truman Pauley the other way.

Mendoza recently addressed Robert’s potential and the expectations surrounding the 28-year-old entering the season. “If we keep this guy healthy, the sky’s the limit,” Mendoza told MLB.com.

He also added, “We’ve seen it — 2023 I think it was when he was healthy, he was one of the best players in the league. The tools are unbelievable — a guy that can go get it in the outfield, he’s got speed, can steal bases, can hit it as far as anybody in the game.”

Luis Robert #88 of the nMets looks on during spring training workouts at Clover Park. Rich Storry/Getty Images

Mendoza’s confidence in Robert’s impact

Robert’s career production highlights the upside that convinced the Mets to make the trade. Across his time with Chicago, he has posted a .259/.313/.455 slash line with 102 home runs and 298 RBIs, establishing himself as a powerful middle-of-the-order option when healthy.

His breakout campaign came in 2023, when Robert earned a Silver Slugger and his first All-Star selection. That season he finished with a .857 OPS and 38 home runs, the third-highest total in the American League, while appearing in a career-high 145 games.

Can Luis Robert stay healthy enough to deliver that impact?

Health remains the biggest question surrounding Robert’s future in New York. The outfielder dealt with multiple lower-body injuries over the past two seasons, including a hip-flexor issue in 2024 and a hamstring strain that lingered throughout 2025.

For that reason, the Mets plan to carefully manage his workload early in the season, giving him scheduled rest and closely monitoring his recovery after games. “It’s a conversation that I need to have with him after every game,” Mendoza said. “The good thing is he knows there’s a plan in place, and that we care and have the best interests for him.”

If Robert can remain healthy, the Mets believe his five-tool ability could add a new dimension to their lineup as the club pushes toward contention in the National League.

The New York Mets continue to stay active in the market, this time adding an outfielder who once played alongside Aaron Judge with the Yankees and appeared in 93 games last season with the White Sox.
The New York Mets are giving Mike Tauchman an opportunity on a minor league deal after he posted a .263 batting average last season with the Chicago White Sox. Tauchman was also teammates with Aaron Judge in 2021 with the New York Yankees, though he saw limited playing time during that stint.

The report on the Mets’ latest move was shared by SNY on X (@sny_mets): “Per Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are in agreement with left-handed hitting outfielder Mike Tauchman on a minor league deal. Tauchman, 35, appeared in 93 games for the White Sox last season, hitting .263 and posting a .756 OPS. He has posted an on-base percentage above .350 in each of the past three seasons.”

As soon as the signing was announced, several analysts viewed it as a solid addition for Triple-A depth, pointing to the former White Sox outfielder’s steady production. Over the past three seasons, Tauchman has appeared in 310 games.

Tauchman could be what the Braves need

For a player at his age, Tauchman has generated an impressive wave of positive analysis from those who follow the Mets closely. Evaluators view him as the type of player who could contribute either off the bench or even handle a larger role if needed.

“Mike Tauchman is a sneaky good depth signing by Stearns & the Mets. I can see him being the part-time RF on Opening Day. Great OBP guy who has played most games in RF & almost even at all 3 OF positions. No brainer move on a minor league deal. Keep cooking the depth chart,” wrote Jake Brown of the Mets Daily Show on X (@jakebrownlive).

Tauchman’s underlying numbers have also drawn praise. “3 DRS in right field in 2025, 1.5 fWAR. 115 wRC+ at the plate for Mike Tauchman. Good pick up. Mets,” posted Michael Baron of Just Mets on X, referencing Tauchman’s recent performance with the White Sox.

If the Mets ultimately offer Tauchman a major league contract, he would likely come at a relatively affordable price. Last season, the White Sox paid him $1.95 million, the second time in his eight-year career he earned that figure.
In addition to Munetaka Murakami, the Chicago White Sox continue to strengthen their roster in the best possible way ahead of the next MLB season.
As the weeks pass, the time to strengthen rosters grows shorter, so all teams are moving quickly and smartly to build competitive lineups. Such is the case with the Chicago White Sox, who, in addition to adding Munetaka Murakami, have brought in two new faces from the AL East.

In recent hours, an intriguing trade involving the White Sox and none other than the Boston Red Sox has been confirmed. According to Jeff Passan via his X account, Murakami will have two new teammates ahead of the upcoming season.

“Trade news: The Chicago White Sox are acquiring veteran right-hander Jordan Hicks and right-handed pitching prospect David Sandlin in a trade with the Boston Red Sox, sources tell ESPN,” the insider revealed via @JeffPassan.

On their end, the Red Sox acquire RHP Gage Ziehl as part of the trade. Boston is also reportedly sending $8M to the White Sox to help cover part of Hicks’ $24M salary.

The bet on Murakami

The Chicago White Sox have signaled a bold new direction by making Japanese phenom Munetaka Murakami the cornerstone of their 2026 roster. By securing the two-time NPB MVP on a high-upside two-year, $34 million contract, the front office is betting on Murakami’s legendary left-handed power to revitalize a lineup that has lacked “pop” for years.

Austin Hays has reportedly made his offseason decision, selecting his next MLB destination after drawing interest from multiple teams.
Outfielder Austin Hays is reportedly closing the book on his offseason search and choosing his next MLB home. After weeks of free‑agent speculation and interest from multiple clubs, Hays appears set to sign with the Chicago White Sox.

The 30‑year‑old veteran, who spent the 2025 season with the Cincinnati Reds, had drawn attention from several teams as spring training approached. His blend of right‑handed pop and experience made him an intriguing depth option on the open market.

According to Jon Heyman, “Hays to White Sox. $6M plus incentives. Pending physical.” That succinct update signals that the long pursuit may be nearing a conclusion, with Chicago poised to add a proven bat to its outfield mix.

What’s next for Hays and the White Sox?

Hays’ decision comes after a winter of interest from clubs including the Reds, Rangers, White Sox, Tigers, Cardinals, Padres and Cubs, showcasing the broad market for his services. While his career has had ups and downs, including an All‑Star season in 2023, teams saw value in adding a veteran who can impact both sides of the ball.

This move gives the White Sox another veteran presence and outfield option as they shape their roster for the 2026 season, joining a mix of youth and established players vying for playing time.

The Mets’ outfield decision could reshape the Cody Bellinger market, potentially creating a clearer path for the Yankees as New York rivals adjust their offseason plans.
The New York Yankees and New York Mets had been circling the same target for days, with Cody Bellinger emerging as the centerpiece of a rare cross-town free-agent battle.

That dynamic shifted abruptly after the Mets missed on Kyle Tucker, forcing their decision-makers to reassess priorities in the outfield. While Bellinger briefly looked like the natural pivot, internal momentum in Queens moved in another direction.

By Tuesday night, the picture changed entirely. ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that the Mets reached a trade agreement with the Chicago White Sox for center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

Mets’ move

Passan confirmed the deal late Tuesday, writing: “BREAKING: The New York Mets in agreement on a trade to acquire center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox, sources tell ESPN.” The Mets sent Luisangel Acuña and right-hander Truman Pauley to Chicago, signaling a key shift in their outfield plan.

Luis Robert Jr. #88 with the White Sox celebrates after scoring.
Why the Yankees now control the Bellinger market

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/mlb-rumors-ny-mets-eye-bold-cody-bellinger-push-after-bo-bichette-signing-amid-ny-yankees-rivalry" image="https://media.bolavip.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2025/12/31105016/cody-bellinger-9-200x200.webp" excerpt="The New York Mets continue reshaping their roster after signing Bo Bichette, with Cody Bellinger emerging as a key target amid growing competition from the New York Yankees.

The Yankees have long viewed Bellinger as a priority, especially after his productive 2025 season in pinstripes. The former MVP appeared in 152 games, hitting 29 home runs with 98 RBIs while providing lineup balance behind Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

While other teams reportedly remain loosely involved — including the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants — none have matched New York’s urgency or overall fit. Jon Heyman noted that Bellinger was weighing multiple options, but the Mets’ latest move may have taken the most immediate threat off the board.

How close is a decision now?

Momentum around Bellinger is picking up, with his decision timing revealed amid the Mets and Yankees interest. Meanwhile, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic recently reported that the free‑agent outfielder could make a decision “within a week” at most.

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their roster for the regular season, the Chicago White Sox have signed Munetaka Murakami, a highly-touted player whose contract reportedly includes a clause that has ignited optimism among the fanbase.
In a thrilling end-of-year announcement for Chicago White Sox fans, the team confirmed the acquisition of Japanese phenom Munetaka Murakami. The signing comes after widespread speculation about interest from multiple franchises, but it’s the White Sox who secured his talents for the next two seasons.

A recent report from ESPN‘s Buster Olney reveals an intriguing aspect of Murakami’s contract: a clause that prevents him from being assigned to the minor leagues without his consent. As Olney noted on his social media, “There is language in the White Sox contract of slugger Munetaka Murakami that prevents him from being sent to the minor leagues without his permission.“

While some view this clause as a potential complication for the White Sox, fans are eagerly anticipating Murakami’s debut performance. Having demonstrated exceptional skill in recent Japanese seasons, he arrives in MLB heralded as one of the top Japanese talents.

Expressions of fan confidence abound, with sentiments such as “He’s hitting 50 bombs, that won’t be needed anyway,” and “We can give him the runway he needs” showcasing the enthusiasm and belief in Murakami’s abilities as he enters the MLB.

Munetaka Murakami #5 of the Chicago White Sox addresses the media.

Murakami addresses the White Sox fanbase

From another perspective, the contract clause could be challenging if Murakami struggles to adapt to MLB’s pace and fails to replicate his performance levels from Japan. This could complicate roster decisions if a change becomes necessary.

Nonetheless, Murakami’s introduction to fans and media was met with excitement. During his welcome speech in December, he expressed his appreciation: “White Sox Nation, you guys are in my heart.”

The upcoming season now hinges on Murakami’s performance. If the clause serve as motivation, the White Sox might have secured a significant asset. Conversely, if struggles arise, the contractual limitations could become a point of contention. Either way, Murakami’s journey promises to be a compelling storyline next season, with the White Sox also looking to bring to the AL Central a free agent from the New York Mets..

Carlos Mendoza’s New York Mets are in the midst of building their roster ahead of the 2026 MLB season.
A new MLB season is slowly approaching, and the majority of teams are still fine-tuning their rosters. One of them is Carlos Mendoza’s New York Mets, who could potentially see one of their free agents head to the AL Central.

Griffin Canning spent last season in Queens, and today he’s a name strongly linked to a potential team change. According to Ken Rosenthal, the team looking to acquire the former Angels pitcher is the Chicago White Sox.

In the midst of roster construction, if the Mets decide to part ways with Canning, he would eventually need to be replaced by another player to avoid leaving a key spot in the field unbalanced.

Canning’s numbers in Queens

In his 2025 campaign with the New York Mets, right-hander Griffin Canning proved to be a high-value addition to the rotation before his season was cut short by an Achilles injury.

Across 16 starts, Canning posted a solid 7–3 win-loss record and a career-best 3.77 ERA. He demonstrated his effectiveness by racking up 70 strikeouts over 76.1 innings, while maintaining a 1.38 WHIP. Though his season ended prematurely, his performance provided the Mets with much-needed stability and a reliable arm during the first half of the year.

Tucker remains the target

The New York Mets have intensified their pursuit of superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker, viewing him as the perfect crown jewel to solidify their lineup for the 2026 season.

While the Toronto Blue Jays were long considered the frontrunners, industry insiders like Ben Nicholson-Smith now suggest that the Mets reportedly have an advantage over Blue Jays because of their desperate need for a veteran outfielder and Steve Cohen’s unmatched willingness to outspend the competition.

Despite Toronto’s recent signing of Kazuma Okamoto, New York’s ability to offer a massive short-term deal with a record-breaking AAV (annual average value) could ultimately sway Tucker to Queens.
