The mascots of Major League Baseball not only energize the stadiums with their antics and enthusiasm, but they have also become beloved symbols of their respective teams.

Some of these figures have such unique appearances that they stand out in the crowd, capturing the attention of fans and curious onlookers alike. In addition to their role in entertainment, these mascots play a crucial role in promotion.

When it comes to compensation, the salaries vary considerably depending on the popularity of the individual mascot, as there is a significant difference between what Mr. Met and Wally the Green Monster earn compared to others.

Phillie Phanatic (Philadelphia Phillies)

Mascot Phillie Phanatic of the Philadelphia Phillies reacts on the field prior to Game One of the Division Series against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park on October 05, 2024. (Source: Hunter Martin/Getty Images)

The Phillie Phanatic made its debut on April 25, 1978, created by the design agency Harrison/Erickson. Its look was inspired by the idea of a friendly and comedic creature that would stand out at games.

With its bright green fur, yellow beak, and large eyes, the Phillie Phanatic has been a key part of the Phillies’ identity. Over the years, it has been involved in countless antics that have made it a fan favorite both inside and outside the stadium.

It is one of the most valued mascots in baseball. Due to its significance and popularity, it is estimated that it earns around $200,000 annually, reflecting the importance of its presence both on the field and in the team’s marketing and promotional activities, as Fox 29 reported.

Slider (Cleveland Indians)

Cleveland Guardians mascot Slider poses while wearing eclipse glasses before the home opener against the Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field on April 08, 2024. (Source: Mike Lawrie/Getty Images)

Slider debuted in 1990 as part of an effort to revitalize the team’s image during the 90s. With its purple fur and mischievous grin, this anthropomorphic figure quickly won over fans. Slider’s appearance is a blend of animal and human features, making it unique and strangely endearing.

While exact salary details are not publicly known, it’s reasonable to estimate that Slider earns between $50,000 and $70,000 annually. This figure is typical for mascots of high-profile teams like the Cleveland Indians, as they generate a great deal of fan interaction and support the team’s image.

Mr. Redlegs (Cincinnati Reds)

Cincinnati Reds mascot Mr. Redlegs pumps up the crowd prior to the start of a game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Washington Nationals in 2024. (Source: Ben Jackson/Getty Images)

Mr. Redlegs was introduced in 1950, although the “Redlegs” image had been used as a logo long before. Its design is inspired by the early baseball players of the franchise, with a style reminiscent of teams from the 1860s. It is a friendly figure with a large mustache, a symbol of the early days of baseball, and is closely associated with the rich tradition of the Cincinnati Reds.

While the exact compensation details are not known, it is understood that mascots from teams like the Reds typically receive salaries comparable to other prominent figures in the MLB. It is estimated that Mr. Redlegs’ annual salary may range between $50,000 and $75,000, a common range for mascots from well-known teams.

San Diego Chicken (San Diego Padres)

The San Diego Chicken entertains fans during a game between the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants at PETCO Park on July 27, 2019. (Source: Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images)

The San Diego Chicken, originally known as “The Famous Chicken”, began gaining notoriety in the late 1970s. Its creation was largely driven by a promotional effort by the franchise, and it quickly became a phenomenon both inside and outside the stadium.

The San Diego Chicken, with its iconic status, has been one of the most financially successful mascots in MLB history. At its peak, it is estimated to have earned nearly $500,000 annually.

Although its appearances at games have diminished in recent years, it is believed to remain one of the highest-paid characters, with earnings ranging between $200,000 and $300,000 annually due to its fame.

Homer the Brave (Atlanta Braves)

Homer the Brave poses before the Braves take on the St. Louis Cardinals during the National League Wild Card playoff game at Turner Field on October 5, 2012. (Source: Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)

Homer the Brave is one of the newer MLB mascots, debuting in 1986. Its design is inspired by the traditional style of baseball mascots, but what sets it apart is its large red nose and exuberant facial expression. With boundless energy and overwhelming charisma, Homer quickly won the hearts of fans, especially during the team’s victories in the 90s.

Homer’s salary is estimated to be between $50,000 and $70,000 annually, placing it within the common range for mascots from teams with large fan followings. Although it is not as well-known as other figures like the Phillie Phanatic, its presence remains essential to the team’s atmosphere.

The Oriole Bird (Baltimore Orioles)

Mascot of the Baltimore Orioles, The Oriole Bird, performs prior to Game Two of the Wild Card Series against the Kansas City Royals at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on October 02, 2024. (Source: Greg Fiume/Getty Images)

Introduced in 1979, The Oriole Bird is the living symbol of the Baltimore Orioles team. Its design, a mix of orange and black colors, reflects both the team’s colors and the identity of the oriole bird, which is native to the region.

Although it has remained relatively consistent over the years, its presence continues to be crucial in the stadium, where it keeps fans entertained with its pranks and comedic acts.

The Bird enjoys a compensation similar to other mascots, with an estimated annual salary between $50,000 and $60,000. This figure is justified by the important role it plays in creating a unique atmosphere at the Orioles’ stadium.

Orbit (Houston Astros)

Houston Astros mascot Orbit walks through the stands during the game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park on April 18, 2023. (Source: Logan Riely/Getty Images)

Orbit made its debut in 1990 as part of the Houston Astros’ effort to add a more friendly and fun figure to their identity. Its extraterrestrial appearance, with a green body and large eyes, sets it apart from other MLB mascots. Its creation was aimed at making the Astros a more accessible team for young fans.

It is one of the most recognized mascots in MLB, and it is estimated that its salary is near $60,000 annually. This amount reflects both the importance of Orbit in fan interaction and in the team’s marketing efforts.

T.C. Bear (Minnesota Twins)

Minnesota Twins mascot TC Bear carries the Puerto Rican flag before the start of a game against the Cleveland Indians at Hiram Bithorn Stadium on April 18, 2018. Its cute and friendly appearance, with a large brown teddy bear, was created to give fans a warm and approachable figure. The mascot is known for its hugs and its willingness to interact with children, making it a fan favorite at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Bear’s salary, like many mascots, is difficult to determine precisely, but it is estimated to be in the range of $50,000 to $60,000 annually, a common figure for figures who may not have the international fame of other mascots but are still essential to the local atmosphere.

His design, inspired by a dinosaur, reflects the prehistoric theme that accompanies the Rockies’ stadium, Coors Field, especially in relation to dinosaur fossils found in the area. Dinger’s mascot has won fans over with its fun and energetic personality.

Dinger’s salary is estimated to be between $40,000 and $60,000 annually, reflecting the mascot’s role in a team that has grown in popularity in recent years. For sure, it is a crucial figure in the team’s marketing efforts.

After 106 years of being known as the Cleveland Indians and recent backlash, the franchise has finally decided to change its name. Now, they'll go by the Cleveland Guardians.
One of the most controversial issues of the past couple of years has taken a new turn, as Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians have finally reached a decision regarding the new name of the franchise.

For years, activists and even sponsors criticized the Indians – as well as other franchises – for having a name that could have a derogatory connotation toward Native Americans, thus prompting this decision.

And, even though they have yet to make an official announcement, the press has already reported that the new name of the organization will be the Cleveland Guardians, while also leaking a new logo.

Cleveland Indians To Change Name To Cleveland Guardians:

“Paul Hoynes of cleveland.com reportsthat the Cleveland organization has settled on a replacement for their “Indians” moniker, which has triggered debates for years. The development comes seven months after club owner Paul Dolan said he would be changing the name amid mounting social pressure after Washington dropped its own insensitive Native American nickname. Dolan said the “Indians” name would remain for the 2021 season, with plans to phase it out for 2022,” reported Jack Baer of Yahoo! Sports.

“Per Hoynes, those 2022 plans were more of a goal than a promise, but Dolan also reportedly said the change would wait until 2023 if the club didn’t have a name settled by midseason, which it now appears to have done,” concluded the report.

The Atlanta Braves have yet to take a similar stance and it doesn’t seem like they’re considering making a name change any time soon. As for the Washington Football Team of the NFL, they’re expected to have a new name for the 2022 season.

Needless to say, this decision is likely to fuel the controversy even further, but at least, the team can focus on the next page of their history with a new identity.

The 2021 Major League Baseball season is finally here. Check out the predictions, odds, key dates, and how to watch or live stream for free in the United States.
The 2021 Major League Baseball season is finally upon us. All teams will enter the year with the same record and the same hopes and expectations, even if they’re unable to keep up the pace with the true contenders.

For this season, the extra-inning rule with a runner in the second base and the seven-inning doubleheaders will still be enforced, while the expanded playoff pool is yet to be determined by the league and the Players’ Association.

Also, fans will be back in attendance – although at a limited capacity – after last year’s tough season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the following paragraphs, we’ll show you everything there is to know about the 2021 season:

Cleveland Indians star Francisco Lindor could be on the move pretty soon, as two East Coast teams are lining up to make an offer for him, according to The Athletic.
Ever since the start of last season, Francisco Lindor’s name has been tied to pretty much every single organization in Major League Baseball, as he’s one of the prime trade candidates in the league right now.

The Cleveland Indians decided to keep the talented shortstop during the shortened season in hopes of making a deep postseason run, but now that we’re ‘back to normal’ (as if), the time to trade him has finally come.

The New York Yankees were reportedly interested in acquiring Lindor’s services last year but that interest has now cooled off. However, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and a report by Yahoo! Sports, two Eastern Conference teams are ready to make a run at him.

Toronto Blue Jays And New York Mets Leading The Race For Francisco Lindor

“Per Rosenthal, the Indians could have difficulty securing a package equal to the one the Dodgers received last offseason for Mookie Betts, due in part to the potentially small amount of suitors and financial climate. Rosenthal adds thatthe Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are more focused on free agents or filling other positions, and that teams like the San Francisco Giants and Minnesota Twins might not be fits,” read the report.

The New York Mets have been tied to Lindor for quite some time now. New owner Steve Cohen wants to make a statement and bring nothing but top-tier talents to Queens, and that would certainly be a step in the right direction.

As for the Toronto Blue Jays, the team is filled with young and promising players and want to add a couple of proven veterans and bonafide stars to make a run at the postseason this year, and Lindor clearly fits their timeline.

It’s also worth noting that any team that lands the talented Puerto Rican is going to absorb the $19 million he has left on his contract, as well as trying to convince him of signing a long-term extension before he hits free agency, which is always a risk.

The Cleveland Indians will finally drop their name after 105 years. But why did they name the team that way to begin with? Check it out here.
Following a lot of consideration and given the times we live in, the Cleveland Indians have finally decided to move on from the ‘Indians’ name. They’ll start the 2021 MLB season with a new name which is yet to be determined.

It’s been 105 years since the franchise last changed itsname. Needless to say, it has become a part of the city’s identity and these kinds of polarizing subjects are always going to draw mixed opinions.

But, considering that the Washington Redskins caved in after years of backlash and debate, it only felt right for the Indians to also move on from what some people consider to be offensive towards Native Americans.

The History And Origins Of The Cleveland Indians’ Name

Let’s go back in time to 1897. Then, a crafty outfielder called Louis Francis Sockalexis began his career with the Cleveland Spiders, where he’d eventually become a legend and icon after a 13-year career.

Besides his talent and charisma, there was something particular about Louis Sockalexis that would grant him a spot in baseball history: He was the first full-blood Native American to make the Major Leagues.

But, what does this have to do with the Cleveland Indians’ name? Well, the franchise went through multiple rebrands and renames (Lakeshores, Bluebirds, Broncos) before going with the name Cleveland Naps to honor team legend, Napoleon Lajoie.

Even though he often went by ‘Larry’, Cleveland fans decided to rename the team ‘Cleveland Naps’ when the franchise asked them for help to rebrand the team again in 1903. That name, however, would only last for 11 seasons.

Back in 1914, the team’s owners had recently announced that they intended to change the franchise’s name again, with the front office and beat writers set to choose their new identity. The options were ‘Tornadoes’, ‘Commodores’, ‘Foresters’,’Rangers’,’Sixers’, and ‘Harmonics,’yet somehow they ended with ‘Indians’. How’s that?

Well, as it turns out, the 1914 campaign had a historical outcome when the Boston Braves pulled off an incredible comeback to go fromlast place to win the World Series. They became the most popular team in the nation and the Native American theme gave the Indians a once-in-a-lifetime marketing opportunity.

Basically, Native Americans were ‘hip’ at the moment and team owners decided to ride the wave while honoring Cleveland legend Louis Sockalexis. Then, ‘The Tribe’ was born and so did their new identity. Now, they’ll lean towards a more ‘culturally sensitive’ option.

There's a growing belief that the Cleveland Indians will move star shortstop Francisco Lindor before the start of next season, with Yankees and Mets interested.
The Cleveland Indians put together an impressive run during the shortened MLB season but aren’t believed to be in a position to contend for the long term, as the team is reportedly looking to cut expenses, especially amid the context of the pandemic.

Obviously, that means that Francisco Lindor is the most likely trade candidate for The Tribe, as the soon-to-be 27-year old will enter the final year of his deal and is due for a big payday once he enters free agency.

And even after posting an underwhelming slash line of .258/.335/.415 during the season, Lindor is still expected to gauge a lot of interest in the trade market ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Cleveland Indians Intend To Trade Francisco Lindor ASAP

That’s why the Cleveland Indians have reportedly already made Lindor available in trade talks and have informed the rest of the league, according to a report by Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

Yankees Or Mets Could Trade For Francisco Lindor

Francisco Lindor has often been tied with a move to The Big Apple. The New York Yankees have reportedly been keeping tabs on him for a very long time, and even though they’ve already handed DJ LeMahieu a qualifyingoffer, the batting champion is expected to demand more money.

So, should the Yankees let LeMahieu walk, they could shift Gleyber Torres back to second base and make a run at Francisco Lindor as their new shortstop for the future. Then again, they won’t be alone in their pursuit.

The New York Mets are already stacked in that position withAmed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, and Ronny Mauricio but Steve Cohen has made it pretty clear that he intends to compete at the highest level right away, and making a move at a young All-Star would certainly make a statement.

Superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor may not stay with the Cleveland Indians beyond his contract. Here, we'll show you 3 nice fits and destinations.
The Cleveland Indians failed to move Francisco Lindor during the shortened MLB regular-season, partly because of the shortened schedule gave them a bigger window of opportunity to contend, partly because he struggled offensively.

But it’s not a secret that Lindor is the most likely trade candidate this offseason, considering he’s poised to hit free agency in 2021 and it doesn’t seem like the Indians are willing to meet his demands, let alone be able to surround him by elite talents to compete for a World Series.

Thus Lindor is going to be in the headlines and trade rumors a soon as the season is over, with plenty of teams interested in his great defense and solid offense, but where could he actually thrive the most? Moreover, who’d be really willing to part ways with enough assets to get him and then pay him what he wants? Let’s break it down.

3. New York Yankees

Well, this one’s a no-brainer. The New York Yankees have always pursuit top-tier players on every single position and even though they definitely don’t need the Puerto Rican, we’ve seen them do these kinds of things over and over.

DJ LeMahieu is coming off a career year at the Bronx and he’s going to demand a lot of well-deserved money. The Yankees would be dum not to meet the league’s batting champion’s demands but hey, anything can happen.

Lindor would become yet another marquee name to ever wear Pinstripes and that could allow Gleyber Torres to move to the second base where he could have an easier time in terms of defense.

2. Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia PhillIes are for real. Sort of. I mean, they want to be for real and have already proved that they won’t hesitate to spend big bucks or part ways with assetsto become a competitive team.

Didi Gregorius is soon to hit free agency and the Phillies could definitely use some help in their rotation and bullpen more than the offense but filling in that void with Lindor would certaInly appease their fans.

If they’re able to keep J.T Realmuto plus Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Lindor and manage to get at least one consistent starter, the Phillies could finally turn the page and go back to contention.

1. New York Mets

Expect the New York Mets to headline the list for, well, pretty much every single big name in Major League Baseball for the next couple of years, as Steve Cohen – or Jennifer López if the owners don’t approve Cohen – have vowed to take the team back to a World Series.

Whoever is in charge of the Mets next season is going to be quite aggressive in their pursuit for top-tier players and adding Francisco Lindor right away would definitely make a statement in Queens.

They have enough prospects to pull that deal off and could still make a run at Trevor Bauer, Taljuan Walker, or even try to keep Marcus Stroman to reinforce an already scary pitching rotation.

However, the team's asking price is reportedly too high right now.
Ever since he made his debut in 2017, it was pretty clear that Mike Clevinger was a cornerstone of the Cleveland Indians’ plans going forward. Now, he’s been involved with countless trade rumors as the MLB trade deadline is just around the corner.

Clevinger is one of the best pitchers in the league. He’s got a 2.97 ERA, 1.196 WHIP, 3.43 FIP with averages of 10.22 K per 9 innings, and 3.55 BB per 9 innings in 470.1 innings of worksince the 2017 season.

However, his lack of discipline and the fact that he broke the team’s rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic infuriated some of his teammates, up to the point where they demanded the Indians to trade him or they would sit out.

Indians’ Aking Too Much For Mike Clevinger

There’s absolutely no doubt that Mike Clevinger is worth a couple of assets. He’s just 29 years old, won’t be a free agent for a while, and then numbers speak for themselves. Then again, Jon Heyman recently reported that the Indians’ asking price is just ‘ridiculous’.

“Clevinger is definitely being talked about in trade scenarios. Indians are known to listen on everyone and some see winter trade as more likely. Price said to be “ridiculous.” But it should be. Talented (141 ERA plus), young (29) and not a free agent for multiple more years,” Heyman reported.

The New York Yankees were reportedly interested in acquiring his services and could have put together a package including Clint Frazier, Miguel Andújar, and one of their top-tier prospects like Estevan Florial or Deivi García. Now, it seems like those offers are off the table.

Clevinger recently came back to the mound after his infamous night out with Zach Plesac so it’s likely that he’s already apologized to both the organization and his teammates. That means the Indians have no true incentive to trade him unless they’re whopped by a trade offer they just can’t refuse.

As of today, the Indians have one of the strongest rotations in the Majors with Shane Bieber, Carlos Carrasco, Mike Clevinger, and even impressive rookie Triston McKenzie, so maybe it’ll be for the best if they just hold on to their troublemaker for now.

MLB Rumors: Yankees and Red Sox could trade for Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac

Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac broke the rules and must pay for that. Their punishment? Ending up on the Yankees or Red Sox, according to the latest MLB trade rumors.
Cleveland Indians’ star SP duo Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac have been all around the news lately but for the wrong reasons. Apparently, they lied to the club and their teammates and had a night out, ignoring the health and safety protocols and putting them at risk of Covid-19. Now, they’re sitting atop of most MLB trade rumors, with both the Yankees and Red Sox looming around.

Clevinger and Plesac went out for a drink in Chicago. That drink may have costthem their career at Ohio, as veteran Oliver Perez and other players have vowed to leave the team if they’re ever allowed back in the rotation.

That put the Indians on a bit of a predicament but it might as well be a blessing in disguise. At the end of the day, they’re both very good pitchers that could draw a lot of value in the trade block, and Cleveland could certainly use a couple of new pieces.

New York Yankees A Likely Destination

The New York Yankees have plenty of bats to spare. What they lack is a trustworthy rotation, even after Gerrit Cole’s addition. It’s been clear that the Bronx Bombers have needed more arms for years, and this may be the perfect opportunity for them.

Aaron Boone has never been fond of Clint Frazier, while Miguel Andújar has struggled with his swing all year. Estevan Florial and/or Canaan Smith could also be a part of any potential move for either Plesac, Clevinger, or even both, according to Fansided.

Boston Red Sox Craving Pitchers

There’s also the possibility that the Boston Red Sox try to make a move planning ahead of next season. They could add Clevinger and Plesac and hope Chris Sale finally comes back at full strength. Add Xander Bogaerts, JD Martínez, and Rafael Devers to the mix and they could think about contending again.

The Red Sox could try and create a package centered around Alex Verdugo to get one of those guys and improve their horrid 7.19 ERA. You know what they say: one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.
