Yet, Tatis Jr. remains conscious of the challenges that lie ahead. He emphasizes the importance of taking it one day at a time to achieve their ultimate goal in the tournament: winning the World Baseball Classic.

Juan Soto will be one of the key hitters for the Dominican Republic, and as expected, he and Fernando Tatis Jr. are projected to be two of the top three bats in the lineup.
Juan Soto could provide the Dominican Republic with the power at the plate it needs to win games in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He is expected to hit third in the batting order, while Fernando Tatis Jr. will take the leadoff spot.

The report comes from Moises Mejia on X (@moisesmejiah), who shared an initial lineup projection based on his sources detailing how the Dominican Republic could arrange its batting order. Between Tatis Jr. and Soto will be Ketel Marte, who is set to play second base in the WBC.

Following the top three hitters, Mejia’s report projects Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who posted a .292 batting average last season, to hit cleanup. He would be followed by Manny Machado and Junior Caminero, who is expected to serve as the team’s designated hitter in the tournament.

Projected batting order for the Dominican Republic

If Soto, Marte and Tatis Jr. perform well at the plate, the rest of their teammates could benefit from more run-producing opportunities. The first six hitters will be key to generating runs and hits, but it will also be important for Austin Wells and Geraldo Perdomo to contribute during the WBC.

Wells posted a .219 batting average last season in what was his first year with the New York Yankees. That likely explains his spot toward the bottom of the order, although he did hit 21 home runs, a career high at the MLB level.

The Dominican Republic will compete in Pool D of the World Baseball Classic, where it is set to face Venezuela, the Netherlands, Israel and Nicaragua. Venezuela, in particular, could pose the biggest threat from the mound and potentially slow down Soto and his teammates.

As the World Baseball Classic approaches, Fernando Tatis Jr. is gearing up to represent the Dominican Republic and has issued a bold warning about facing off against Shohei Ohtani.
With the Major League Baseball regular season on the horizon, all eyes are on the nations set to compete in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Fernando Tatis Jr. is poised to lead the Dominican Republic team and has shared a bold statement regarding his teammates while discussing Shohei Ohtani.

Dominican journalist Yancen Pujols conducted an interview with Tatis Jr., in which he delivered a confident message and took a subtle jab at Ohtani. “Credit where credit is due. Shohei Ohtani is the best player in the world right now. But even he can’t play all nine positions or bat nine times in a game,“ Tatis Jr. proclaimed.

Tatis Jr. continued, “It’s a team sport. Honestly, with the team we have, I’m not afraid of anyone. My respect to them (Team Japan). I give them full respect and honor where it’s deserved. Team USA is undeniably stacked too, but Team DR carries unmatched preparation and a relentless work ethic, leaving almost no flaws on the field.”

With these remarks, the San Diego Padres player exudes confidence as he prepares for the WBC, undeterred by the likes of Ohtani or other star players. His trust in his teammates is evident, with a clear goal to win the tournament.

Shohei Ohtani #17 of the Dodgers prepares at bat during the MLB Tokyo Series.

How good is Team Dominican Republic with Tatis Jr. on board?

Last season, Tatis Jr. delivered an exceptional performance with the Padres, joining the exclusive 25/30 club—having achieved 25+ home runs and 30+ stolen bases—for the second time in his career.

Alongside Tatis Jr., here’s the rest of the Dominican Republic roster for the WBC:

Catchers: Austin Wells (Yankees), Agustin Ramirez (Marlins)

Infielders: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Blue Jays), Manny Machado (Padres), Ketel Marte (D-backs), Geraldo Perdomo (D-backs), Jeremy Peña (Astros), Junior Caminero (Rays), Carlos Santana (Guardians), Amed Rosario (Yankees)

Outfielders: Juan Soto (Mets), Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres), Julio Rodriguez (Mariners), Oneil Cruz (Pirates)

Starting Pitchers: Cristopher Sanchez (Phillies), Sandy Alcantara (Marlins), Brayan Bello (Red Sox), Luis Severino (Athletics)

Relievers: Camilo Doval (Yankees), Carlos Estevez (Royals), Seranthony Dominguez (White Sox), Wandy Peralta (Padres), Gregory Soto (Pirates), Abner Uribe (Brewers), Elvis Alvarado (A’s), Huascar Brazoban (Mets), Dennis Santana (Pirates), Juan Mejia (Rockies), Albert Abreu (Chunichi Dragons)

With such an impressive roster and the tournament fast approaching, Tatis Jr.’s comments further elevate the anticipation for the World Baseball Classic set to kick off on March 5.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to make a significant impact in baseball this offseason, with five potential scenarios on the horizon.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in the upcoming season. Their dominant performance in 2025, capped by back-to-back World Series titles, positions the Dodgers as the primary contenders heading into the 2026 season.

Amid swirling rumors about potential roster additions, there are reportedly five scenarios on the table that could elevate the Dodgers to unprecedented heights. According to Dodgers Nation, a trusted source for all things Dodgers, these are the intriguing possibilities for the 2026 season.

Trade for Paul Skenes

Acquire Tarik Skubal

Bring Mike Trout to LA

Execute a blockbuster trade with the Twins

Acquire Fernando Tatis Jr. for LA

Among these proposals, two are rated as likely, two are considered complicated but possible, and one is deemed virtually impossible, based on insider analysis and prevailing circumstances.

Paul Skenes #30 of the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrates with teammates.

Skenes or Skubal: Likely moves?

Reports suggest that the young talent from the Pittsburgh Pirates may find his way to Los Angeles. The Dodgers’ recent championship wins and their promising future add to their appeal. Despite this, Pirates officials asserted to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale that they have no intention of trading Skenes, making any pursuit a challenging endeavor.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/mlb-rumors-los-angeles-dodgers-reportedly-express-interest-in-all-star-relievers-from-yankees-and-guardians" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20251112_BUS_525444_Dave-Roberts-looks-on-4.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="The Los Angeles Dodgers are already strategizing for the upcoming season, eager to defend the championship title they clinched. Rumors are swirling about potential roster enhancements, with particular attention to possible acquisitions from the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan notes that Skenes could be a good fit for the Dodgers, alongside other teams like the New York Yankees or the New York Mets. However, Passan highlights that the Dodgers, already possessing a formidable rotation, are primarily focused on bolstering their outfield and bullpen.

Trout or Buxton: Possible long shots?

Rumors of Trout joining the Dodgers may be more fiction than fact, considering his longstanding tenure with the Los Angeles Angels. Yet, during a regular-season interview, Trout expressed a desire to join a team capable of securing a World Series title, leaving a window of opportunity open.

While specifics remain elusive, Doug McCain of Dodgers Nation suggested that the Dodgers might attempt to secure a trade for Byron Buxton, one of Minnesota’s standout talents.

Tatis Jr.: An unlikely scenario

The prospect of acquiring Fernando Tatis Jr. appears the least feasible, given his 14-year, $340 million contract extension with the San Diego Padres signed in 2021. The logistics of such a major trade combined with available free agents make this scenario one of the most improbable.

Following their decisive victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, the San Diego Padres secured a coveted postseason berth. Fernando Tatis Jr.'s teammate emerged as the standout hero of the night, delivering a performance that propelled the team to this crucial milestone.
San Diego erupted in exuberance following the Padres‘ thrilling victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, clinching their coveted spot in the National League postseason. Catcher Freddy Fermin delivered an exceptional performance, propelling the Padres into the next phase with anticipation of Fernando Tatis Jr. reinforcing the lineup in the challenging fixtures ahead.

Fermin, a standout player, shared insights with Padres radio broadcaster Tony Gwynn Jr. on the keys to their success throughout the season. “It was incredibly challenging for me. I learned a lot from the other catchers around me. It wasn’t easy, but the support from our excellent staff enabled us to do a really terrific job,” Fermin reflected amidst the jubilant celebrations of his teammates.

These reflections resonated deeply with the fan base, who were elated to witness a player like Fermin stepping up during this critical juncture. The Padres enjoyed a strong regular season, though they faced hurdles along the way, making this moment all the more significant as they brace for the postseason.

With eyes firmly set on the challenges ahead, the Padres aim to deliver outstanding performances. Players like Fermin and Tatis Jr., who are enjoying remarkable seasons, are expected to elevate their game further in the upcoming matchups. The team’s overarching goal remains steadfast: securing a berth in the World Series, a pinnacle they aspire to reach this season.

Tatis Jr.’s outfield excellence transcends shortstop origins

Throughout the regular season, Tatis Jr. has demonstrated his versatility, transitioning effectively into the outfield, particularly in right field. This adaptation has paid dividends, as he leads the league with 348 putouts and boasts a remarkable Rtot of 31. Additionally, he tops the NL in RF/9 with 2.47 and RF/G with 2.35, showcasing his defensive prowess.

Complementing his defensive contributions, Tatis Jr. has been a formidable force at the plate. Over 585 at-bats, he has accumulated 108 runs, 156 hits, and 23 home runs. As the Padres aim for glory, with the World Series as their ultimate objective, Tatis Jr.’s all-around performance will be instrumental in their pursuit of success.

Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres recently shared his picks for the best attributes from current MLB stars to add to his game.
San Diego Padres‘ standout Fernando Tatis Jr. continues to be a pivotal player in the team’s effort to clinch the NL West division title from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although his statistics may not be as staggering as other MLB elites, Tatis Jr.’s electrifying athleticism and dynamic playstyle have been instrumental for the Padres in their pursuit of first place.

The Padres have faced challenges this season, which have seen them lose their grip on the top position they once held. Missed opportunities to capitalize against the Dodgers have redirected their focus toward securing a Wild Card spot as the season progresses.

In an exclusive interview with MLB.com, Tatis Jr. shared insights ahead of the remaining regular-season games. During the conversation, he selected key attributes from current league stars, including Manny Machado, Shohei Ohtani, and Aaron Judge, reflecting on the mix of skills he admires.

“When it comes to defense, Machado is unparalleled, what he does on the front line is unbelievable,” Tatis Jr. commented on his fellow Padre. “From Aaron Judge, I’d choose his power [nervous laughter].” Upon discussing Shohei Ohtani, the multifaceted talent from a rival team, he remarked, “Just one tool? [laughs] I’ll take his pitching.”

Responding to a question about Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Tatis Jr. quipped, “Can I take more power? [laughs] More power.” Turning his attention to Juan Soto, Tatis Jr. expressed admiration for his exceptional vision at the plate: “The way he sees and tracks the ball, determining strikes or balls almost instantly, is simply exceptional.” Lastly, he praised Ronald Acuña Jr. for “his style and his swag.”

Tatis Jr. reflects on his father’s legacy

After sharing his insights on the top players in the MLB, Tatis Jr. was asked which attribute he would most like to inherit from his father, Fernando Tatis Sr. While Tatis Sr. may not have reached legendary status in the league, he was undoubtedly one of the standout players for the St. Louis Cardinals during the early 2000s.

Tatis Jr. confidently pointed to a historic moment: “Two Grand Slams, same inning, same pitcher, history.” He referred to the unforgettable game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1999 season, where his father made history by hitting two grand slams in a single inning. This feat remains etched in MLB history.

Evaluating Tatis Jr.’s regular season performance

While Tatis Jr. is known for his immense talent, his regular-season statistics have not entirely reflected his potential this year. He boasts a .265 batting average, accompanied by 22 home runs, 27 doubles, and two triples. Additionally, he has accumulated 150 hits and crossed home plate 104 times throughout the season.

Despite these numbers, Tatis Jr.’s defensive prowess has been crucial for the Padres. His contributions in the outfield have been pivotal in supporting the team’s defensive efforts. As the Padres aim for a postseason spot, at least securing a Wild Card berth in 2025, his all-around performance will be essential for the team’s success.

San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. has been selected to participate in this year's MLB All-Star Game. Ahead of the anticipated matchup, Tatis Jr. made a cryptic remark about the potential MVP of the game.
San Diego Padres‘ standout Fernando Tatis Jr. is making headlines this MLB season with an impressive performance. Boasting 16 home runs and 42 RBIs, Tatis Jr. has been instrumental in helping the Padres keep pace with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fiercely competitive NL West standings.

His impressive stats and electrifying play have earned him a spot on this year’s coveted MLB All-Star roster. This annual showcase brings together the elite from both leagues, offering a unique opportunity to engage with rival talent while thrilling fans in the stands.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between the National League and American League All-Star teams, Tatis Jr. addressed the media. He discussed his own stellar performance and progress this season, and when queried about who he considers the league’s top player today, he opted for a playful response.

Choosing to keep it lighthearted, Padres star sent out a cryptic message on social media rather than naming names directly. “I think that’s obvious (laughs). He’s my rival, so I’m not going to mention his name. It’s the number 17 from the blue team (laughs),” he said, clearly alluding to Shohei Ohtani.

Tatis Jr. reflects on his journey with the Padres

Over the course of six years with the Padres, Tatis Jr. has seen his perspective on the game evolve. In an interview with MLB Network, Tatis shared insights into his transformation, including his return to peak performance after a year-long hiatus.

Ohtani delved into his future, his return to pitching form, and a heartfelt moment with his idol from Japan.

“I grew up watching Ichiro [Suzuki] play in the All-Star Game,” Ohtani revealed. “Meeting him was a dream come true.” Ohtani’s passion for baseball continues to captivate fans, who eagerly anticipate his performance in Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

MLB fans want to see the game’s best power hitters in the Home Run Derby, but some stars are sitting out to avoid potential injuries—and Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of them.
Fernando Tatis Jr. might not be having his most productive season, but he’s still on pace to surpass last year’s home run total. Despite that, the Padres star recently opened up about his decision to skip the upcoming Home Run Derby.

So far, Tatis Jr. has hit 15 home runs—maybe not a huge number, but enough for Padres fans to hope he’d take part in the Derby. However, he confirmed he won’t participate, citing a desire to avoid injury as he’s already been dealing with some muscle discomfort.

“I wish, but I’ve been getting cramps (around) my obliques, so I’m not going to take the chance,” Tatis Jr. told Annie Heilbrunn. “I feel like it’s more important for me to stay healthy,” he added.

Tatis Jr. focused on the bigger picture

Tatis made it clear his priority isn’t midseason events like the Home Run Derby, but rather helping the Padres improve their standing in the NL West. San Diego currently holds a 48-41 record and remains in the hunt behind division rivals like the Dodgers and Giants.

“And now it’s going to be really three more months of baseball where we can turn things around and make this thing special,” he said, emphasizing his goal of pushing the Padres toward an MLB postseason return and possibly a deep October run.

Who’s confirmed for the Home Run Derby?

With Tatis Jr. opting out, only three players have been officially confirmed for the 2025 Home Run Derby so far: Ronald Acuña Jr., James Wood of the Nationals, and Cal Raleigh, who’s had a strong season with 35 home runs.

After the chaos surrounding Fernando Tatis Jr.’s painful hit-by-pitch, MLB came down “hard” on Dave Roberts and Mike Shildt with a combination of fines and suspensions.
MLB showed little mercy to Dave Roberts — and even less to Mike Shildt — following the heated exchange that broke out after Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch in a game the Padres had already locked up.

Beyond the painful HBP to Tatis Jr.’s hand, the harshest part of MLB’s punishment was the one-game suspension handed down to both managers. Roberts and Shildt are serving the suspension today, June 20.

In addition to the suspensions, both managers were fined an undisclosed amount. League standards suggest those fines are typically under $10,000. Despite the benches clearing during the confrontation, only one player received disciplinary action — no others were fined or suspended.

Which player was punished?

Padres reliever Robert Suarez was the only non-manager penalized. He received a three-game suspension from the league. However, Suarez is currently appealing the decision and will remain eligible to play until the appeal is heard.

Fans push back against the fines

Reaction to the penalties was swift, with many fans questioning why Shildt received the same punishment as Roberts — especially given that video footage appeared to show Roberts initiating the confrontation by shoving the Padres manager.

“Roberts and Shildt both getting one game is a joke. Roberts deserved multiple games. And what about the guy who plunked Tatis in the 9th inning last night?!?! What a joke,” wrote David Leland on X.

Another user added, “I’m a Dodgers fan and Roberts should have got more than Shildt.” Kevin F echoed the sentiment: “Imagine watching that video and thinking Shildt deserved the same punishment as Roberts who PUSHES HIM!!”

Tensions flared again between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres as tempers boiled over in a wild series finale. Dave Roberts had plenty to say after the benches cleared.
The tensions between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres exploded once again Thursday night, as a weeklong series loaded with hit-by-pitches and rising frustrations came to a head. In the final game of the four-game set at Dodger Stadium, both Fernando Tatis Jr. and Shohei Ohtani were hit by pitches — triggering a benches-clearing standoff, multiple ejections, and pointed words from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

The Padres won the game 5–3, but the score took a backseat to the chaos that unfolded in the ninth inning. Dodgers rookie Jack Little, making his Major League debut, hit Tatis on the hand with a fastball. Minutes later, Padres reliever Robert Suarez plunked Ohtani in the upper back with a 100 mph fastball. The result: both managers ejected, a reliever tossed, and a rivalry that refuses to cool down.

It was the second time this week that both Tatis and Ohtani were hit in the same game. In total, eight Padres and Dodgers players were hit over four tense matchups. But Thursday’s showdown had a breaking point — and Roberts made it clear afterward that he didn’t appreciate the accusations coming from the other dugout.

“I’m taking starters out of the game, trying to get this game over with and get this kid a couple innings,” Roberts told reporters, according to MLB.com. “So that’s why I took it personal.”

What sparked the ninth-inning chaos?

The scene unraveled quickly. After Little’s pitch hit Tatis, Padres manager Mike Shildt initially ran out to check on his star player — but soon turned toward Roberts in anger. Words were exchanged, Roberts confronted Shildt near home plate, and the benches cleared moments later.

As players rushed the field, Roberts appeared visibly frustrated. After a brief scrum, tempers cooled, and the teams returned to their dugouts. But the next at-bat brought more controversy.

With the Dodgers mounting a rally and Ohtani at the plate, Suarez hit him on a 3-0 count — high and inside. Suarez was ejected immediately, triggering the automatic removal of acting manager Brian Esposito due to prior warnings.

Roberts points to intent behind Ohtani HBP

Speaking after the game, Roberts didn’t hesitate to suggest that Suarez’s pitch was deliberate. “It’s 3-and-0,” he said. “This is a right-handed pitcher going cross-court to hit Shohei up and in. That’s a hard throw… Clearly there was intent behind it.”

Padres push back: “Enough is enough”

The Padres, however, were furious that Tatis was hit again — for the third time in nine days. Shildt suggested intent or not, the frequency warranted a response. “After a while, enough’s enough,” said the manager. “Intentional, unintentional — the fact of the matter is, I took exception with it.”

Tatis himself downplayed the intent behind Thursday’s HBP but expressed mounting frustration. “For me it wasn’t [intentional] in the moment,” Tatis said. “But how many times have they hit me already?”

What’s next in this NL West rivalry?

The Dodgers and Padres won’t meet again until mid-August, giving both clubs time to refocus on the playoff race. Whether the bad blood will still be simmering remains to be seen — but history between these two clubs suggests it might be far from over.

After watching Fernando Tatis Jr. in clear pain following the hit-by-pitch, Manny Machado didn’t stay silent — delivering a strong message to the Los Angeles Dodgers about his teammate’s health.
Manny Machado was one of the first to witness the painful moment when Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch on the hand — and it led him to send a strong warning to the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the results of his teammate’s CT scan.

Machado didn’t hold back in his comments, making it clear that he — and the Dodgers — better hope the news is good for the Padres and that it’s not a serious injury.

“Let’s just hope the CT scan comes back negative,” Machado said. “[The Dodgers] gotta pray it comes back negative tomorrow. They better put out a candle.” His comments came after San Diego managed to win just one out of four games in Los Angeles.

What did Tatis Jr. say about his injury?

Echoing Machado’s frustration, Tatis Jr. expressed his anger over the situation, pointing out that this isn’t the first time he’s been hit. So far, he’s been hit by a pitch four times this MLB season.

“For me, it wasn’t in the moment. But I mean, how many times they hit me already… everybody knows enough and enough is enough.” Tatis Jr. went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the game and wasn’t able to contribute offensively.

How fast was the pitch that struck Tatis Jr.?

The pitch that hit Tatis Jr. in the hand was clocked at 93 mph — a hard fastball that came during the ninth inning as the Dodgers, already trailing 5–0, appeared to get more aggressive in a last-ditch effort.
