A former UFC champion weighs in on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson super fight, offering a bold prediction that challenges fan expectations
The boxing world is buzzing after Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson announced an exhibition bout set for next year, promising a clash between two of the sport’s most iconic figures. Fans have speculated endlessly about how the fight might unfold, with social media lighting up with predictions, memes, and debates.

Amid the hype, former UFC champion Daniel Cormier has weighed in, offering a unique perspective on what spectators can—and cannot—expect from this unusual pairing. Known for his insight into combat sports, Cormier’s take adds another layer to the growing conversation surrounding the bout.

In a recent statement on his YouTube channel, Cormier declared, “One thing I do know we won’t see is Mike Tyson starch Floyd Mayweather.” He added with a hint of amazement, “Could you imagine if he just knocks out Floyd and Floyd is that much smaller? It would be the most viewed thing you’d ever see on TV. The clips would be the most viral s— you’d ever seen in your life.”

Will Mayweather vs. Tyson produce a knockout?

While the fight promises to be entertaining, Cormier’s prediction suggests that fans shouldn’t expect a dramatic finish. The matchup is as much about spectacle and legacy as it is about pure competition, given Mayweather’s defensive mastery and Tyson’s age and ring rust.

Who else wanted a piece of Mayweather?

The announcement of this high-profile bout also reignited chatter from other fighters eager for a chance in the ring with Mayweather. Notably, Ryan Garcia recently commented on social media that he should have been the one facing the five-division champion, fueling further discussion about potential dream matchups and crossover bouts in boxing.

Ryan Garcia reacts to the Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson fight announcement, delivering a bold and explosive take that’s rocking the boxing community.
The boxing world was stunned this week after Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson confirmed an exhibition bout scheduled for next year. With few details revealed about rounds, weight class, or venue, fans and fighters alike were quick to voice their reactions. Among them was Ryan Garcia, the 24-2 phenom, who didn’t hold back on social media.

Garcia, known for his speed and knockout power, recently returned to the ring following a shock loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in May. The young star is actively seeking his next challenge, and the announcement of Mayweather vs. Tyson provided the perfect platform for Garcia to express his opinion.

In a post on “X” (formerly Twitter), Garcia wrote: “Floyd should’ve just fought me,” ending the message with a shrug emoji. The response was shared widely across boxing circles, highlighting the ongoing tension and excitement surrounding Mayweather’s exhibition matches.

Should Ryan Garcia be the next opponent for Mayweather?

Garcia’s tweet suggests he feels he has earned the right to face Mayweather, especially given his past experience in exhibitions. He previously arranged a fight against Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo, though he had to pull out due to a wrist injury. His promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, opposed the exhibition and pursued legal action, highlighting the challenges Garcia has faced navigating fights outside the traditional professional arena.

Despite this, Garcia has maintained a respectful and appreciative stance toward Mayweather, calling him a mentor. “Floyd is mentoring me, and I love and respect him, he is so authentic so stop judging him,” Garcia wrote. His comments reflect the complicated relationship between rising stars and boxing legends, blending admiration with competitive ambition.

What’s next for Ryan Garcia?

With Tyson-Mayweather officially confirmed, fans are left speculating about matchups, weight classes, and potential spectacles. For Ryan Garcia, the focus remains on bouncing back from his recent defeat, securing a rematch with Rolly Romero, or potentially aligning for a high-profile fight with a legend like Manny Pacquiao. Meanwhile, the Mayweather-Tyson exhibition promises to dominate headlines and redefine how fans anticipate crossover boxing events.

Mike Tyson cautions Floyd Mayweather about potential health risks ahead of their historic exhibition, while Mayweather vows a legendary performance for fans globally.
The boxing world is abuzz with anticipation as two of the sport’s biggest icons, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather, prepare to square off next spring. Fans and analysts alike are weighing the risks and excitement of a bout that few ever imagined would happen. At 59, Tyson’s return to the ring is already historic, while Mayweather, 48, remains undefeated in his professional career.

In a rare show of blunt honesty, Tyson has issued a warning to Mayweather, emphasizing the health risks involved. The upcoming clash is set to be an exhibition bout under terms still being finalized, but the stakes feel higher than most non-title fights due to the ages and legacies of the competitors.

As the world waits for full details, both fighters have already begun hyping the event through their respective camps. Mayweather, a master of promotional strategy, promises fans a “legendary” performance, while Tyson’s remarks suggest the exhibition may test Mayweather’s limits in ways few have seen before.

Could this mega-fight pose a real danger to Mayweather?

Tyson did not mince words about the risks for Mayweather, stressing the unpredictable nature of the matchup. “I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!” Tyson said in a CSI Sports press release.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to face Mike Tyson in a historic exhibition bout scheduled for spring 2026. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Mayweather, however, remains confident in his abilities, citing his previous exhibition wins against Logan Paul and John Gotti III. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing,” he stated. The contrast between Tyson’s concern and Mayweather’s bravado has created a narrative tension that will likely carry through the fight promotion.

Preparation and legacy in focus

Both camps are emphasizing preparation and promotional storytelling. CSI Sports executives Richard and Craig Miele outlined plans for a global broadcast campaign with innovative in-ring technology to enhance the viewing experience. “Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are two of the most compelling names and personalities with lasting legacies in all of sports. They are 21st-century icons,” they said.

With the fight confirmed but still lacking regulatory specifics, fans can expect updates on weight class arrangements, rules, and venue announcements in the coming months. Meanwhile, the world speculates whether Mayweather’s legendary defense can withstand the power and experience of Tyson at nearly 60 years old.

What’s next for Tyson and Mayweather?

As preparations continue, both fighters are expected to complete separate training regimens before a final face-off in the ring next spring. Boxing enthusiasts worldwide are monitoring developments, anticipating not just the clash itself but the potential impact on both fighters’ legacies.

Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez each made millions fighting Floyd Mayweather. Discover how their earnings compare and the legacy behind these historic bouts.
It’s fair to say that two of the most iconic fights in boxing history featured Floyd Mayweather. Known as “The Money,” Mayweather was famous for facing the best challengers who sought to dethrone him—though none succeeded.

Among those opponents were Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez, both of whom earned fortunes stepping into the ring with the American, albeit with vastly different payouts.

In 2015, the boxing world and sports fans everywhere were captivated by the mega-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather. Dominant figures of their generation, they shared the ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, creating the most highly anticipated and lucrative bout of all time. As a result, both Floyd and Manny made massive earnings from the event.

Manny Pacquiao earned $120 million vs. Floyd Mayweather

For Pacquiao, the payday from that fight reached $120 million, according to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes—the largest purse of his illustrious career, which later included politics. The massive anticipation surrounding the bout, and the approximately 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, generated an estimated $72 million in PPV revenue alone.

The fortune Canelo made vs. Mayweather

A couple of years earlier, in 2013, Canelo Alvarez had the chance to challenge Mayweather. The young fighter from Guadalajara faced the living legend and, while he also failed to defeat “The Money,” he walked away with a significant payday from one of the biggest fights of his career.

At that time, Canelo earned around $13 million—a figure he had never imagined before. Now a fully established superstar, Saul Alvarez commands purses that can reach up to $100 million.

One common factor in both paydays was Mayweather’s presence, as Floyd generated millions on his own, which allowed his opponents to benefit financially as well. Moreover, both Canelo and Pacquiao are unparalleled legends in the sport, creating the perfect stage for their earnings to match their stature in boxing on both occasions.

Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather have seemingly ended their long-standing feud, as a recent video shows them vacationing together in France.
Jake Paul appears to have finally buried the hatchet with Floyd Mayweather, closing a bitter chapter that began during the pandemic. What once started as a viral confrontation has now seemingly transitioned into mutual respect—at least for now.

The infamous altercation between both men took place in 2021, when Paul sparked a full-on brawl after snatching Mayweather’s hat during a press conference ahead of his brother Logan’s exhibition bout. The incident quickly became a meme and ignited years of tension.

Now, nearly four years later, it seems the animosity has fizzled. A recent video released by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions shows the pair together—relaxed and smiling—in the south of France, suggesting their feud has cooled significantly.

Did Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather really make peace?

The video reveals both men enjoying downtime on vacation, chatting calmly and appearing comfortable without their entourages. Paul is seen sunbathing and conversing with Mayweather, who keeps a towel wrapped around his head—perhaps a playful nod to their “gotcha hat” moment.

Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather link up in France‼️👀 pic.twitter.com/hBXkkBPEJr
— Most Valuable Promotions (@MostVpromotions) July 23, 2025

Fans were quick to pick up on the symbolism, joking in comment sections that Mayweather was “protecting his hat.” Though the pair have teased a potential exhibition match for years, nothing has materialized, and this newfound camaraderie may mark a final detour away from that storyline.

How serious was their rivalry in the past?

While the “gotcha hat” incident went viral, the tension between them had been building long before that Miami press event. Paul taunted Mayweather relentlessly at the stadium, interfering with his shoes, yelling from the crowd, and eventually confronting him directly.

The moment Paul grabbed Mayweather’s cap led to an explosive melee between their camps. He even launched merchandise around the meme, turning it into a commercial win. However, security concerns followed, with both Paul brothers hiring bodyguards due to fears of retaliation.

In the end, Logan Paul did fight Mayweather in a no-decision bout, but for Jake, the real battle may have been fought—and resolved—off the canvas.

Manny Pacquiao offers his perspective on Canelo Álvarez’s claim that Terence Crawford is better than Floyd Mayweather ahead of their highly anticipated September super-fight.
The anticipation surrounding the upcoming bout between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford continues to build as the two champions prepare to face off in one of the most anticipated boxing events of the year. Scheduled for Saturday, September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the contest will mark Canelo’s first defense of his undisputed super-middleweight title.

Crawford, 37, is aiming to make history by becoming undisputed in a third weight division, a feat never before accomplished in the four-belt era. Both fighters have already begun a global press tour that has taken them to Riyadh, New York, and Las Vegas, further amplifying the magnitude of the matchup.

Speaking to reporters after their initial press conference, Canelo made headlines by offering high praise for his opponent. “I think Crawford is a little better than Mayweather, but I have more experience right now,” Álvarez said, referring to Floyd Mayweather Jr., the undefeated former champion who handed Canelo his first professional loss in 2013.

Pacquiao acknowledges the comparison but highlights their differences

In response to Canelo’s comments, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao was asked to share his thoughts in an interview with Pro Boxing Fans. Without endorsing one fighter over another, the Filipino legend acknowledged the difficulty of making such comparisons.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez attends a news conference at T-Mobile Arena on June 27, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“It’s a different style, you know. I mean, they’re both good fighters, so it’s hard to compare yourself to others,” Pacquiao stated.

Mayweather famously defeated a 23-year-old Canelo in a dominant unanimous decision in 2013, capturing the WBC light-middleweight title and handing the Mexican his first career defeat. Two years later, Mayweather met Pacquiao in the long-awaited ‘Fight of the Century,’ a welterweight unification bout that generated massive global attention.

While Mayweather won that fight via unanimous decision, the bout fell short of fan expectations, drawing criticism for its lack of action despite its historic buildup.

Crawford looks to make history in Las Vegas

As the September 13 clash approaches, Crawford enters the ring with a perfect record and an undisputed resume at both lightweight and welterweight. A win over Canelo would make him the first male boxer to become undisputed champion in three separate divisions in the four-belt era.

The upcoming super-fight will also be a rare meeting between two reigning undisputed champions—Canelo at super middleweight and Crawford previously at welterweight—further underscoring the significance of the event in boxing history.

He once stood toe-to-toe with Floyd Mayweather in a world title fight—but years later, his name resurfaced under shocking and tragic circumstances few could have predicted.
Before Marcos Maidana made history for Argentine boxing with two high-profile fights against Floyd Mayweather in 2014—bouts that gave him unprecedented international recognition and a fortune that ultimately led to his exit from the sport—another Argentine world champion had already defended his title against Money in the welterweight division.

Carlos Baldomir, a native of Santa Fe, became the WBC welterweight champion with a stunning upset victory over Zab Judah at the iconic Madison Square Garden on January 7, 2006. In his first title defense, he proved to the United States—where boxing is a near-religious matter—that he was the real deal by stopping Arturo Gatti via ninth-round technical knockout that July at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Perhaps El Tata, as he was nicknamed, rushed into taking another fight that same year. But the allure of payday sums he had never even dreamed of in his previous 12 years as a pro, coupled with the self-belief he carried at the time, led him to accept a second title defense in November—against Mayweather, who already held a perfect 36-0 record.

The night Mayweather took his title

Baldomir put his WBC welterweight belt on the line at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and earned $1.5 million just for stepping into the ring. He tried to overwhelm Money in the opening rounds, attempting to show who the champion was by landing some powerful shots. But little by little, the American took control, using his trademark slick defense to frustrate and create openings to counter.

(R) Carlos Baldomir (R) of Argentina connects to the shoulder of Floyd Mayweather during their WBC Welterweight Championship fight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center November 4, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

By the sixth round, the Argentine fighter was bleeding heavily, and Mayweather’s dominance only increased. He cruised to a one-sided unanimous decision with scores of 120–108, 120–108, and 118–110, stripping Baldomir of his world champion status.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/boxing/manny-pacquiao-offers-key-advice-to-terence-crawford-ahead-of-fight-vs-canelo-alvarez" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20250520_BUS_401392_manny-pacquiao.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="The Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao draws on his vast experience to lay out the strategy Terence Crawford needs to beat the Mexican champion Canelo Alvarez.

That defeat marked the beginning of the end. In his next fight, Baldomir attempted to move up in weight to claim the vacant WBC super welterweight title, but he lost a unanimous decision to Vernon Forrest in July 2007.

Brutally knocked out by Canelo Alvarez

After two lower-profile fights abroad—a split decision win over Luciano Perez at Morongo Casino in Cabazon and a split decision loss to Jackson Osei Bonsu in Belgium—Baldomir returned to Argentina after seven years, seeking to reignite his career.

He managed to do so temporarily, scoring a fourth-round TKO against Jairo Jesus Siris, which earned him a spot at a prestigious venue: the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where he faced an undefeated Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who was 34–0 at the time.

Saul Alvarez of Mexico hits Carlos Baldomir of Argentina in the WBC Super Welterweight Silver Title fight at Staples Center on September 18, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

It wasn’t a 12-round title fight, as the belt at stake—labeled “Silver” by the WBC—did not carry the status of a full world championship. Yet even that secondary title eluded Tata, who was brutally knocked out by Canelo in the final second of the sixth round.

A heinous crime and an 18-year sentence

Two years after retiring—following a loss in Mexico to Andrey Meryasev in April 2014—Carlos Baldomir was arrested in Junín after his own daughter filed a sexual abuse complaint in Santa Fe. By then, the former world champion had already lost most of the fortune he had earned in boxing through gambling, as he later admitted.

After three years of detention at Las Flores prison, Baldomir was found guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing his daughter when she was a minor and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, which he is currently serving.

Mistakenly declared dead during a Riot

In March 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina, several reports mistakenly claimed that Carlos Baldomir had died during a riot at Las Flores prison. The unrest began as a protest demanding better hygiene conditions and even early releases to prevent the spread of the virus, which had no approved vaccine at the time and was causing a growing number of deaths nationwide.

However, the protest escalated into violence, especially in Pavilion 3, which housed inmates convicted of sexual crimes—Baldomir among them. Several prisoners in that section were killed, some burned, others stabbed.

The false report of Baldomir’s death originated from confusion over his physical resemblance to one of the actual victims. In reality, the former boxer had narrowly escaped the carnage and remains incarcerated at Las Flores, with seven years left on his sentence.

Legendary Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez was clear when naming the opponent, he would have liked to face in his prime, leaving no doubt about who he believes he would have beaten.
Julio Cesar Chavez is considered by many experts to be the greatest boxer in the history of Mexico. Recognized during his professional years (1980-2005) for his powerful punches, especially his famous liver shot, and his resilience in the ring, the native of Sonora made his mark in the sport by winning three world titles in different weight classes: super featherweight, lightweight, and super lightweight.

However, the “Cesar” of boxing seems to have some unfinished business in his career. At least, that’s what he hinted at when asked in a 2022 interview with ESPN about which opponent he would have liked to face at his peak. His answer was clear: Floyd Mayweather.

Without hesitation, the 62-year-old Chavez stated that he would have defeated the American, who retired undefeated with 50 wins, in the super lightweight category. “I would have beaten him at 140 pounds, I would have run over him. He fought someone similar to me, but with all due respect, he wasn’t Julio César Chávez,” he said.

Chavez discusses his potential victory

It’s worth noting that Chavez was referring to the 2002 bout between Floyd Mayweather and Jose Luis Castillo, which took place in Sonora, where the WBC and The Ring lightweight titles were on the line. The fight ended with Mayweather winning by unanimous decision.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. looks on while taking on Marcos Maidana during their WBC/WBA welterweight title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 13, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I think I would have beaten him, probably by unanimous decision,” concluded Julio Cesar Chavez, who retired from professional boxing in 2005 with a record of 107 wins (87 by knockout), six losses, and two draws.

As for Mayweather, he conquered world titles in five different weight classes: super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight. Additionally, he amassed a vast fortune, which, according to data from Sportico, reached an astounding $1.52 billion, making him the 10th highest-earning athlete in history.

Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns

Sugar Ray Leonard competes with Thomas Hearns for the WBC Super Middleweight Title, in a bout schedule for twelve rounds at the Caesars Palace on June 12, 1989. (Source: Mike Powell /Allsport)

The first fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns was a true spectacle that delivered everything fans hoped for: speed, power, and incredible heart from both fighters. Leonard, known for his dazzling footwork and technical precision, faced Hearns, who was the taller, more powerful opponent with a lethal jab and knockout ability. Their battle for the WBC Welterweight title in Las Vegas was a moment in boxing history, and it did not disappoint.

George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali

George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali (Source: @jeremykuoo)

The “Rumble in the Jungle” is perhaps the most famous bout in boxing history, where a young, seemingly unbeatable George Foreman faced the brash and ever-charismatic Muhammad Ali.

Ali, known for his speed and finesse, entered the fight as the underdog, with Foreman having obliterated nearly every opponent in his path with his brutal knockout power. However, Ali devised a brilliant strategy, using the ropes to absorb Foreman’s heavy blows in what became known as the “rope-a-dope.”

Ali’s calculated risk paid off in the eighth round, as Foreman, exhausted from his own power punches, was caught by Ali’s sharp counterattacks. The result was a stunning knockout victory, and Ali’s re-emergence as the world’s most celebrated boxer. This fight didn’t just change Ali’s career, it reshaped the entire narrative of the sport itself.

Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward

Arturo Gatti lands a right hook to Micky Ward during their Junior Welterweight bout at Boardwalk Hall on June 7, 2003. (Source: Al Bello/Getty Images)

Their first encounter in 2002 is still remembered as one of the most dramatic fights in boxing history. Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward, two warriors from the streets of New Jersey and Boston respectively, put on a clinic in heart, courage, and willpower.

The fight was full of brutal exchanges, but the iconic moment came in the sixth round, when Ward stunned Gatti with a left hook and dropped him to the canvas. Gatti, undeterred, roared back in the later rounds, showing why his nickname, “Thunder,” was earned.

The decision to award Gatti the win in this slugfest was a controversial one, but it hardly mattered in the aftermath. Their trilogy would go on to define the 2000s in boxing, with each encounter being more thrilling than the last. The Gatti-Ward bouts remain the epitome of what it means to be a true fighter in the ring.

Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier (Source: @ESPNRingside)

The “Fight of the Century” was the perfect culmination of boxing’s golden era, where two legends of the sport, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, clashed at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Both fighters entered the ring undefeated, with Frazier known for his relentless pressure and Ali for his unparalleled speed and footwork.

The bout lived up to the hype as they went toe-to-toe in a brutal, punishing exchange of blows for 15 rounds. In the final rounds, it was Frazier’s savage left hook that sent Ali to the canvas, securing Frazier a unanimous decision victory.

Ali would go on to claim the title in their subsequent matchups, but Frazier’s victory in this iconic fight was a testament to his toughness, resilience, and legendary status in the sport. The sheer intensity of their rivalry would shape boxing for years to come.

Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III

Muhammad Ali defeated Joe Frazier in one of the best boxing matches in history, Thrilla in Manila. (Source: @PlayersTribune)

The “Thriller in Manila” was the third and final fight between Ali and Frazier, a battle that would go down in history as one of the sport’s most grueling and intense contests. By the time they met in the Philippines, both fighters had endured two brutal encounters, and this bout would be the ultimate test of their endurance and will.

Muhammad later described the fight as the closest thing to dying he had ever experienced. The back-and-forth action was relentless, with Ali pushing through physical pain and fatigue, while Frazier continued to land crushing punches. In the 14th round, Frazier’s trainer, Eddie Futch, stopped the fight, as Frazier could no longer see out of his swollen left eye.

Ali won by technical knockout, but both fighters had given everything they had, making this one of the most unforgettable spectacles in boxing. The fight encapsulated the true essence of boxing: heart, resilience, and the indomitable will to overcome.

What makes a boxing match a classic

Not every great fight becomes a classic. A true classic transcends the sport itself, embedding into cultural memory and living on in the conversations of fans and historians. What sets these bouts apart isn’t only the athleticism inside the ring, but the storylines, the stakes, and the impact they leave behind.

One of the key ingredients is narrative tension. When fighters step into the ring with rivalries, personal history, or national pride at stake, the drama amplifies. Consider Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s first meeting in 1971.

It was more than a fight—it symbolized the clash of two Americas, with Ali embodying the counterculture and Frazier the traditionalist stance. The magnitude of that storyline helped turn their bout into the “Fight of the Century”.

Another defining element is shifts in momentum. A match where the tide turns multiple times keeps spectators on edge. A bout like Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns in 1985, often described as “The War,” remains unforgettable precisely because of its chaotic, seesaw action from the opening bell.

Stylistic contrast is also vital. Boxing thrives on the clash of approaches—speed versus power, defense versus relentless aggression. Sugar Ray Leonard against Thomas Hearns in 1981 epitomized this, showcasing Leonard’s tactical adjustments against Hearns’s punching power. That stylistic duel produced one of the greatest comebacks in the sport.

Finally, classics endure because of historical significance. When a match alters legacies, shifts divisions, or becomes a cultural moment, it earns a place in history. Joe Louis’s destruction of Max Schmeling in 1938 wasn’t only about boxing—it was a symbolic blow to Nazi ideology, making the fight an event of global resonance.

These 25 great athletes all retired at certain points in their careers but returned for one last dance later on. Here are 25-sports star comebacks!
Learning when to walk away is key for any sports star. Staying too long can damage the image of a great athlete, but when they do come back and it’s a slam dunk like Michael Jordan, it’s a great feel-good story.

That is what sports is at times, great feel-good stories, and with the return of Tom Brady to the NFL, it is another indicator that great players leave when they want to, not when their told.

Here is a list of 25 sports stars who came out of retirement and tried to make a comeback. The situation may vary, and the end result may be different but all 25 wanted to return and make a splash, this is how they fared.

25. Tom Brady

    Tom Brady (Getty Images)

The greatest NFL player of all-time Tom Brady retired in 2022 after winning 7 Super Bowls, 5 Super Bowl MVPs, and 3 NFL regular season MVP awards. Brady at 44 still has something left in the tank and after only 40 days of retirement he announced he’d be back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season.

24. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

    Floyd Mayweather Jr (Getty Images)

Pretty boy Floyd Mayweather Jr was boxing’s pound for pound best and retired a total of three times, nonetheless Mayweather still has a professional boxing record of 50-0, undefeated in 5 weight classes. Despite his out of ring persona, Mayweather was a great defensive boxer and came out of retirement on three occasions usually for big time money fights and today boxes in exhibition bouts. His comebacks can be graded as B+ given that they were demanding fights that at times failed to meet expectations.

23. Landon Donovan

    Landon Donovan (Getty Images)

21. Gordie Howe
