Maja Chwalinska spent years grinding through qualifying draws and lower-tier events before a stunning run changed the course of her career. Now, the Polish left-hander is drawing attention far beyond the WTA's most dedicated followers.
Maja Chwalinska arrived in Paris with little attention outside the most dedicated tennis circles. Ranked outside the top 100 and forced to battle through qualifying, the Polish left-hander was largely viewed as an outsider.

Instead, she has become one of the biggest stories of the 2026 French Open, putting together a remarkable run that has stunned the tennis world and introduced her name to a global audience.

She has spent years building her career away from the spotlight. Known for her crafty left-handed game, she developed as one of Poland’s most promising talents after reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal.

How old is Maja Chwalinska?

Maja Chwalinska is 24 years old. She was born on October 11, 2001, in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, and has spent nearly a decade competing on the professional circuit. She first attracted international attention as a promising junior player.

Maja Chwalinska during the Women’s Singles quarter-final match on Day Eleven of the 2026 French Open (Source: Dan Istitene/Getty Images)

However, her path to the top level was far from straightforward. Injuries and mental health struggles interrupted her development, forcing her to step away from the sport for a period in 2021.

Her breakthrough arrived in 2026 when she became one of the surprise stories of Roland Garros. At 24 years old, she reached her first Grand Slam semifinal after entering the tournament through qualifying.

How tall is Maja Chwalinska?

Maja Chwalinska is 5-foot-5 (1.64 meters) tall. Despite not possessing the physical stature of many top-ranked players, she has built her game around consistency, variety, and tactical intelligence.

The left-hander relies on court coverage, angles, and shot selection rather than overwhelming power. Her ability to adapt to different surfaces and conditions has helped her compete successfully against higher-ranked opponents.

Who is Maja Chwalinska’s coach?

Maja Chwalinska is coached by Jaroslav Machovsky. The Czech coach has been part of her development as she worked her way up the rankings and established herself as a consistent presence on the professional tour.

Machovsky has helped her refine a game built around precision and tactical awareness. Under his guidance, she captured WTA 125 titles and steadily improved her results on both the ITF and WTA circuits.

Their partnership reached a new level in 2026 when she produced a stunning run to the French Open semifinals, a result that guaranteed the best ranking of her career and significantly increased her profile on the global tennis stage.

How much prize money has Maja Chwalinska earned?

Maja Chwalinska had earned $841,000 in career prize money before the start of the 2026 French Open. However, her remarkable run to the semifinals in Paris has significantly increased that total. The WTA lists her prize money at $114,498.

Maja Chwalinska of Poland on Day Two of the 2026 French Open (Source: Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

The prize money earned in Paris is a reflection of Roland Garros’ record-breaking 2026 purse. Official figures show that each semifinalist receives €750,000, one of the largest payouts in women’s tennis outside of winning a Grand Slam title.

For Chwalinska, the financial impact is as significant as the sporting achievement. After years of competing primarily on lower-tier tours, her French Open breakthrough instantly changed the trajectory of her career.

What is Maja Chwalinska’s current ranking?

Maja Chwalinska is currently ranked No. 114 in the WTA singles rankings, but that number is set to change dramatically following her breakthrough performance at the 2026 French Open.

Her stunning run in Paris has guaranteed the biggest jump of her career. After advancing from the qualifying rounds to the semifinals, she secured enough ranking points to break into the Top 30 for the first time.

Reuters reported that her quarterfinal victory over Anna Kalinskaya ensured she would leave Roland Garros ranked inside the world’s top 30, a remarkable rise for a player who began the tournament outside the Top 100.

The ranking surge represents a career-defining milestone. Before Roland Garros, she had never finished a season inside the Top 100 and had spent much of her career competing on the ITF and WTA 125 circuits.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz delivered a marathon showdown, etching their names into the history books with one of the longest finals ever witnessed at Roland Garros.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz delivered one of the most compelling Grand Slam finals in recent memory at Roland Garros.
As soon as Alcaraz found himself trailing 0-2 in the opening set, he showcased remarkable resilience by clawing his way back in the following sets. This spirited comeback by the Spanish phenom ensured the match was pushed to an exhilarating final set. Remarkably, the epic encounter stretched beyond the five-hour mark, captivating audiences worldwide.

In a highly anticipated showdown on the clay courts of Paris, the top two players in the world rankings delivered a spectacular finale. Alcaraz and Sinner poured their hearts into every rally, defying both physical and mental fatigue.
What’s the longest final ever played in Roland Garros history?

The showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner has set the record as the longest final ever played at Roland Garros with a total of 5 hours and 29 minutes. They have eclipsed the previous record held since 1982, when Guillermo Vilas and Mats Wilander contested for 4 hours and 42 minutes.

Alcaraz clinches his second consecutive triumph at Roland Garros

In a thrilling and grueling showdown lasting over five hours, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in the final set of the 2024 Roland Garros championship with scores of 6-4, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. The Spaniard showcased an exceptional performance, ultimately sealing the win with a 10-2 victory in the tiebreak. This victory cements Alcaraz’s status as one of the premier talents in tennis today.

Though this impressive win adds another prestigious title to Alcaraz’s collection, it does not alter the ATP rankings at the top: Jannik Sinner retains his position as the world No. 1. However, Alcaraz is tantalizingly close, needing just one Wimbledon victory to potentially ascend to the pinnacle of men’s tennis if current standings and performance dynamics persist.

Carlos Alcaraz is through to the French Open final once again, just one win away from defending his Roland Garros crown. The 22-year-old Spaniard advanced on Friday after Lorenzo Musetti was forced to retire early in the fourth set of their semi-final clash. Alcaraz was leading 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 when the Italian, hampered by an upper left leg injury.

With the win, Alcaraz becomes only the second player in the Open Era, after Roger Federer, to win multiple Roland Garros semi-finals after dropping the first set, per OptaAce. Federer managed it in 2006 and 2009, and now Alcaraz has done it twice: against Jannik Sinner in 2024 and now Musetti in 2025.

Moreover, the 22-year-old also becomes the fifth-youngest player to reach five Grand Slam finals in the Open Era. Among active players, only Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have accomplished the same.

Despite his win, Alcaraz admitted that it was a bittersweet moment after Musetti had to end his clay court season with an injury. “It’s never great getting through or winning a match like this,” he said. “Lorenzo is a great player. He has had an incredible clay season… I always wish him all the best, a quick recovery, and hopefully we are going to enjoy his tennis pretty soon,” he said during the on-court interview.

Alcaraz awaits for Sinner vs Djokovic

Now, all eyes turn to the other semi-final: top seed Jannik Sinner versus Novak Djokovic. Whoever wins that blockbuster match will stand between Alcaraz and another Roland Garros crown. The Serbian and the Italian are 4-4 in the head to head, and their encounter promises an entertaining battle.

Jannik Sinner advanced to the next round at Roland Garros after defeating one of the tournament's surprise contenders, Alexander Bublik. With this victory, Sinner etched his name into the annals of Italian tennis history.
Jannik Sinner has demonstrated why his ascent to world No. 1 is no mere coincidence. With an impressive victory over Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals of the French Open at Roland Garros, Sinner has emerged as a formidable favorite to claim the title. His progress to the semifinals not only highlights his incredible skill but also secures his place in the annals of Italian tennis history.

Sinner delivered a commanding performance, defeating Bublik in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-0, to seal his spot in the next round at Roland Garros. This victory comes on the heels of a three-month hiatus due to a doping case, yet Sinner returned to the court with remarkable resilience. He had already showcased his talent at the Italian Open, despite falling to Carlos Alcaraz.

This latest triumph marks Sinner’s fourth win in five encounters with Bublik and sees him becoming a trailblazer for Italian tennis, making history with his advance to the Roland Garros semifinals. Remarkably, this is the sixth time Sinner has reached a Grand Slam semifinal, a record-setting feat for any Italian player in the sport’s history.

Moreover, Sinner is closing in on another significant record: the most weeks spent at the top of the ATP World Rankings. To achieve this milestone, he must win the next two matches of the tournament. Regardless, his place in tennis history is already secured, as he continues to make his mark not only internationally but also as a proud representative of Italy.

Sinner continues to make tennis history

Italian tennis sensation is not just setting solo records; he’s rewriting the history books alongside countryman Lorenzo Musetti. At the French Open, this dynamic duo reached a milestone not seen in 65 years.

They have become the first pair of Italian men since 1958 to reach the semifinals at Roland Garros, a feat last achieved by Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola. Pietrangeli famously triumphed over Luis Ayala in a five-set final, marking his second consecutive victory in Paris.

Bublik’s lighthearted response to Sinner defeat

In an emotional rollercoaster at Roland Garros, Alexander Bublik made headlines not only for reaching the quarterfinals but also for his humorous reaction following a straight-set loss to Jannik Sinner.

Known for his playful demeanor, Bublik shared on Instagram, “I almost got him, guys (laughs),” providing a refreshing perspective on his performance. Despite the 3-0 loss, Bublik’s charisma shone through, establishing him as a crowd favorite and a player to watch in future tournaments.

French young star Lois Boisson keeps making history at the 2025 Roland Garros after beating Mirra Andreeva to reach the semifinals.
Lois Boisson’s Cinderella story at the 2025 French Open continues. The French young player beat sixth seeded Mirra Andreeva in a tough battle, 7-6(8), 6-3, to reach the semifinals of the tournament and keep making history. This time, matching a feat by legends Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati.

She is also the third player since 1980 to reach the semifinals at their first Grand Slam main draw appearance after Seles (French Open 1989) and Capriati (French Open 1990), per Opta Ace.

With her win, Boisson, at 22 years old and nine days, is also the youngest French semifinalist in a women’s singles Grand Slam tournament since Mauresmo, 20 years old, in Wimbledon in 1999.

Boisson, who started the tournament at the No. 361 and now will be into the Top 70, also added her second win over Top 20 players in her career, being unbeaten so far. She will now face Coco Gauff in the semifinal tomorrow, after the World No. 2 beat Madison Keys in the quarter-finals.

The French young star came from defeating World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the fourth round, and had a difficult start against Andreeva. However, with the help of the crowd, Boisson was able to overcome the Russian’s attacks, maintain her composure in tense moments and came back from 3-5, saving two set points.

Boisson is the first Wild Card player to reach the semis in Paris

In another impressive stat, Boisson is also the first player in the Open Era to reach the Women’s Singles semi-finals at the French Open as a wild card. After her triumph, she was holding back tears as she recalled how last year she had to overcome a torn ACL.

As the only French player remaining in the draw, Boisson carries the hopes of her nation on her shoulders. She is the first Frenchwoman to reach the Roland Garros semifinals since Marion Bartoli in 2011 and has already made history. Nevertheless, she aims to achieve even more.

Coco Gauff advanced to the semifinals at Roland Garros, equaling a significant milestone set by tennis legend Martina Hingis at the French Open.
Coco Gauff has once again proven her dominance at Roland Garros, showcasing her formidable skills on the clay courts. In a riveting encounter, Gauff triumphed over fellow American Madison Keys in three sets, turning around a one-set deficit and a 4-3 position in the second set. This comeback victory not only adds another Grand Slam win to her impressive resume but also allows Gauff to match a milestone set by tennis legend Martina Hingis.

The clay courts seem to be the ideal battleground for Gauff’s talents. Her hard-fought victory sends a clear message to her competitors in the tournament: Gauff is a force to be reckoned with and will present a formidable challenge in the semifinals.

Gauff’s exceptional form in the 2025 season continues to turn heads, highlighted by her back-to-back runner-up finishes in the recent Masters 1000 events. She is now on the verge of another significant achievement, with just one more match to reach another landmark moment in her career. Furthermore, her recent performances have seen her equal records set by some of the greatest legends in the WTA history.

Notably, Gauff has matched Hingis as the youngest player to achieve 25 victories in the main draw at Roland Garros. This milestone undoubtedly fuels her motivation further as she pursues her first title in Paris, setting her sights on French Open glory.

Back-2-back Paris semifinals 🔒#RolandGarros @CocoGauff pic.twitter.com/rTr2oo0B13
— Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 4, 2025

Gauff hits another milestone at Roland Garros

The American tennis player continues to shine at Roland Garros, achieving yet another milestone in her burgeoning career. Hot on the heels of equating the feats of tennis greats like Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova, Gauff has now etched her 25th main draw victory at the French Open. However, this win over Madison Keys signifies much more than just another tally on the victory sheet.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/tennis/coco-gauff-achieves-personal-milestone-at-roland-garros-matching-legend-venus-williams" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20250602_BUS_409652_Coco-Gauff-celebrates.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="Coco Gauff is set to embark on a new chapter at Roland Garros following her impressive fourth-round victory.
According to the WTA’s official social media account, Gauff recorded her 10th career victory against a former Grand Slam champion, further cementing her status as one of the sport’s rising stars. This remarkable achievement at Paris adds to another one recorded this year, as she surpasses the legendary figures she seemingly enjoys measuring herself against, such as Venus Williams.

Gauff’s commanding journey through Roland Garros

Throughout an exceptional campaign, Gauff has displayed the determination and skill necessary to claim her spot among tennis’s elite. Remarkably, she has dropped only a single set during her Roland Garros run, setting an imposing standard and applying pressure on those who aspire to take the title themselves.

Let’s take a closer look at her path to the final stages at the French Open:

Quarterfinal: Overcame Madison Keys (No. 7 seed) in a resilient comeback, 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-1.

Fourth Round: Dispatched Ekaterina Alexandrova (No. 20 seed) with ease, 6-0, 7-5.

Third Round: Triumphed over Marie Bouzkova in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Second Round: Defeated Tereza Valentova, 6-2, 6-4.

First Round: Made short work of Olivia Gadecki, 6-2, 6-2.

Gauff’s performance this year has not only thrilled the fans but has also made a resounding statement on the professional circuit. As she advances, tennis enthusiasts eagerly await how far her exceptional form will carry her at Roland Garros.

Swiatek, who defeated Elina Svitolina in two contested sets, won her 40th French Open main draw match in singles. With a 40-2 record, she equaled Bjorn Borg as the second-fatest player to do so, according to Opta Ace. Only Rafael Nadal did it in fewer matches (41).

Now, Swiatek will meet Sabalenka in a second ever Grand Slam match. Their first clash in a major came at the 2022 US Open, which the Polish star won in three sets. However, at the time, neither of them had won a Grand Slam.

The last time they met was in Cincinnati in 2024, with Sabalenka winning in two sets. In total, they have played each other on 12 occasions, with Swiatek winning eight matches. On clay, they have clashed six times, with the Polish star winning five.

“I know it’s always a challenge (against Sabalenka). I just need to focus on myself, and go for it. She’s been having a great season so I’m not going to lie, it will be a tough match, but I’m happy for the challenge,” said Swiatek of the semifinals clash.

Swiatek also surpasses Chris Evert’s winning percentage at the French Open

Swiatek is also making history as the WTA player with the highest winning percentage at the French open women’s singles in the Open Era. She is now equalling none other than Margaret Court. Here’s the breakdown of the players with the highest winning percentage:

95.2% — Margaret Court, Iga Swiatek
92.3% — Chris Evert
89.4% — Steffi Graf
88.4% — Justine Henin

On the other hand, Swiatek could become the first WTA player to win four consecutive titles at the French Open. With her three titles in a row, she matched Justine Henin, who won from 2005 to 2007, and another one in 2003.

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka fought hard to defeat Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 score in the 2025 French Open quarter-finals. The World No. 1 awaits Iga Swiatek or Elina Svitolina in the semifinals. With her triumph, Sabalenka joins an elite group of players with an impressive stat.

The Belarusian, who is arguably the favourite to win her first Paris title, has a 70% win rate in Grand Slams against WTA Top 10 opponents (with minimum 10 matches). Since 1990, only three players have a better rate: Steffi Graf (75.3%), Martina Navratilova (70.6%) and her next potential opponent, Swiatek (75%).

However, her win over Qinwen, who beat her for the first time in Rome this year, didn’t come easy. “That was a true battle – I have no idea how I was able to get back into that first set,” Sabalenka said after the match, in which she had to come back from a break down in the first set. “I was ready to leave everything I have on court to win.”

Despite the trouble, Sabalenka has yet to drop a set at Roland Garros. She arrived in Paris from winning three titles this year, including Madrid on clay, and reached the other two finals. While Swiatek has been the most dominant player at the French Open, the Belarussian is the one to beat.

Aryna Sabalenka during the 2025 French Open (Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

On the other hand, this new semifinal is another proof of her consistency. She is the WTA player with the most Grand Slam semifinals (11) since the 2020, with Swiatek trailing behind with seven.

Sabalenka is determined to win the French Open

While the Belarussian has already won three majors, two Australian Open and one US Open, she still has to conquer Roland Garros and Wimbledon. “We’re all here for one reason. Everyone wants that beautiful trophy,” Sabalenka said after the match.

“I’m really glad I have another opportunity, another semifinal, to do better than I did last time,” she said, referring to her quarter-finals’ loss last year to Mirra Andreeva. “I really hope by the end of the clay court season this year, I’ll be very proud of myself,” she added.

Aryna Sabalenka, the World No. 1, demonstrated why she holds the top ranking as she advanced to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. After her impressive victory, Sabalenka addressed Novak Djokovic's recent imitation of her.
Aryna Sabalenka has secured her place in yet another WTA semifinal with a commanding victory over Chinese sensation Qinwen Zheng. This latest triumph at Roland Garros propels the Belarusian ace into the final four, following a match defined by tenacity and precision. Post-match, Sabalenka took a lighthearted jab at Novak Djokovic after his playful imitation of her celebration during his own French Open contest.

In a contest marked by pivotal moments, Sabalenka capitalized on an officiating decision that disrupted Zheng’s momentum. Leading by two points in the first set, Zheng encountered a potentially game-altering call from the official. As the decision reversed, concluding the ball was indeed out, Zheng, visibly perturbed, briefly halted play, altering the trajectory of the match.

Sabalenka asserted her dominance across straights sets, avenging her prior loss to Zheng at the Italian Open. Sealing victory with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph, she now boasts a remarkable 34-9 record for the year and eagerly anticipates a potential clash with reigning champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.

Jannik Sinner, having already identified his next opponent at Roland Garros, delivered one of the most poignant moments at the French Open to date.
The storied courts of Roland Garros continue to be a stage for unforgettable moments, where players descend upon Paris to etch their names in history. This week, the tournament delivered yet another emotional highlight, courtesy of Jannik Sinner‘s quarterfinal opponent.

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik made history on Monday by advancing to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. In a hard-fought match against the world No. 5, Jack Draper of Great Britain, Bublik showcased exceptional skill and tenacity. With Sinner looming in the next round, Bublik’s focus remains unwavering.

Despite dropping the opening set, Bublik demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination across four sets to secure his place in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. His triumph provided one of the tournament’s most poignant moments thus far.

In a post-match interview with tournament officials, Bublik shared his profound emotions, eliciting a round of applause from the audience. “Sometimes in life, there’s only one chance.
Sinner advances to Roland Garros quarterfinals with convincing win

World No. 1 continues to prove he is poised for greatness at French Open, bouncing back from a tough final loss at the Italian Open to Carlos Alcaraz. Showcasing exceptional form, Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, to book his place in the quarterfinals.

While this marks their first encounter at a Grand Slam, Sinner and Alexander Bublik are familiar foes on the ATP circuit. Sinner leads their head-to-head series 3-1, with their most memorable clash occurring at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters 1000.

In the quarterfinals of that tournament, Sinner dispatched Bublik in two tight sets, 7-6, 6-4, delivering a standout performance that highlighted his growing prowess on the court. As Sinner continues his quest at Roland Garros, anticipation builds for another thrilling matchup between these two talented players.
