Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo commented on his excitement about playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo during the upcoming NBA season.

The Miami Heat has enjoyed an overall very strong offseason, instantly establishing itself as a title contender for the upcoming NBA season. The key driver behind that status is a blockbuster trade that brought in Giannis Antetokounmpo to pair alongside Bam Adebayo, who shared his excitement about teaming up with the superstar forward.

Speaking to the media regarding Antetokounmpo, Adebayo mentioned that he and his new teammate share the same agent and previously pondered whether a team-up could actually happen. Now that it has become a reality, Adebayo emphasized that the energy the squad gained is monumental.

“I mean, everybody has seen the battles that we had,” Adebayo said, according to The Miami Herald. “We got the same agent, and we talked about, like, what if it would happen? And now we’re to this point. So, I’m excited for the season. I’m excited to be his teammate. I’m excited for the city of Miami, and the energy we gained. And we’re looking to take that momentum into the season.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s arrival with the Heat

Miami acquired Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. by trading Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and significant draft capital, including three first-round picks, marking the beginning of a new era for the organization.

Giannis Antetokounmpo #7 of the Miami Heat.

The former multi-time league MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and 2021 Finals MVP joins forces with Heat captain Bam Adebayo. On paper, the two form one of the most dominant two-way pairings in NBA history. Additionally, Klay Thompson could join the mix as well, with Miami holding the veteran sharpshooter as its primary target.

How Antetokounmpo enters the season

Antetokounmpo is coming off a 2025-26 NBA season in which he averaged nearly 28 points per game to go along with 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists on an absurd 62.4% shooting from the field. Those numbers put him firmly in MVP contention and reinforced his position among the top players in the league.

With Adebayo having recently turned 29 years old, maximizing the best remaining years of his prime became a necessity for the front office. Adding one of the greatest forces in the league accomplishes exactly that.

Richard Jefferson, who knows the Miami Heat well, believes that with Giannis Antetokounmpo, things won't be easy in the first year.

Richard Jefferson delivered a clear warning to Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat regarding their immediate championship expectations. Jefferson emphasized that while Miami has paired two elite frontcourt stars, “Miami, they got Giannis, got Bam, they have talent but I wouldn’t consider their roster complete to be a championship team.”

Jefferson, speaking on the Road Trippin’ Show, argued that the Heat must remain patient with Antetokounmpo. He noted that physical, elite big men age gracefully over time, explaining that “Giannis’ window for being a top 5/10 player in this league, is a lot longer than a player who’s 6’7”.

Jefferson insists Miami does not need to force or panic a title push during Year 1. He summarized his caution to Spoelstra by concluding that “they have a 5 year window with Giannis to build a proper team around him where he can still be a guy who can lead you to a championship.”

Richard Jefferson knows what he’s talking about

Jefferson correctly highlights that building a legitimate championship roster around two interior heavyweights requires time to surround them with complementary shooters, refine half-court execution, and establish elite defensive chemistry.

Richard Jefferson believes the Miami Heat have a 5 year championship window with Giannis:

“Miami, they got Giannis, got Bam, they have talent but I wouldn’t consider their roster complete to be a championship team. I still like where they are. I think Giannis, taller players… pic.twitter.com/zhJD5ngHHe
— Heat Central (@TheHeatCentral) July 27, 2026

Giannis’ elite productivity reinforces why Miami can afford to play the long game. Last season, Antetokounmpo posted massive numbers, averaging 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game on over 60% shooting from the field.

Channing Frye echoes roster concerns for Miami

Co-host Channing Frye shared similar doubts on the same show episode, focusing heavily on how Miami’s current core fits together. While acknowledging their imposing physical presence, Frye offered his own warning about their offensive balance, admitting that “defensively, this team is going to be a monster… There is not enough shooters”.

Channing Frye says he doesn’t like the current Heat roster around Giannis and Bam:

“Defensively, this team is going to be a monster…. But… https://t.co/TUVynSq0E0 pic.twitter.com/jme7gAGboT
— Heat Central (@TheHeatCentral) July 27, 2026

Frye highlighted the distinct lack of perimeter threats currently surrounding their interior stars, urging the front office to quickly address the void. He explained that the Heat “need to go find shooters, spacing, so that Bam and Giannis can get downhill and create for other people”.

Giannis Antetokounmpo opened up about a potential return to Milwaukee after joining the Miami Heat, sharing his thoughts on the move, his future, and what it could mean for the Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo may have begun a new chapter with the Miami Heat, but the former Milwaukee Bucks superstar made it clear that his connection to Milwaukee remains as strong as ever. After spending 13 seasons with the franchise and leading it to an NBA championship, Antetokounmpo revealed he hopes to return to the city one day after his playing career in Miami comes to an end.

Speaking on the Greek podcast AnesTea The Podcast, Antetokounmpo reflected on his departure from Milwaukee while acknowledging how difficult the decision was. “I love the city of Milwaukee. When the Miami chapter comes to an end—I don’t know when that will be, but it will happen because I’ll retire at some point—I hope I can return to Milwaukee, if they would have me,” he said.

Although he is embracing the opportunity with the Heat, Antetokounmpo admitted that leaving the organization where he became an NBA champion was a major life change, one he viewed as necessary for his continued growth as both a player and a person.

Why does Giannis want to return to Milwaukee?

Antetokounmpo explained that Milwaukee became much more than the place where he started his NBA career. Over 13 seasons, he developed a close bond with the city and its fans, making his departure one of the toughest decisions of his professional life.

Miami Heat President Pat Riley (L) and HC Erik Spoelstra (R) pose for a photo with Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Miami Heat.
The two-time NBA MVP also recalled how Bucks supporters honored him after his departure by leaving flowers and candles at his mural in Milwaukee. For Antetokounmpo, those gestures reflected the mutual respect that developed between him and the community throughout his time with the franchise.

How is Giannis approaching his new chapter with the Heat?

While Antetokounmpo remains grateful for his years in Milwaukee, he said his full attention is now on helping Miami compete for another NBA championship. The former Bucks star acknowledged that joining a new organization brings uncertainty, including adapting to new teammates and earning the trust of the Heat community.

However, he emphasized that his priority is to stay healthy, support his teammates, respect the fans, and make a positive impact both on and off the court as he begins the next phase of his career.

The Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat for the 2026-27 NBA season. Here are the projected lineups and deal terms.
The long-running saga between the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo has finally come to an end. A departure for Giannis had loomed as imminent for over a year in the NBA, fueled by a storm of public statements, league-wide rumors, and leaked preferred destinations. Ultimately, the Miami Heat will secure his services.

According to Shams Charania, the Bucks are trading Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including the No. 13 pick), one pick swap, and one second-round pick. It represents a fair price for the former MVP and NBA Champion.

Projected Miami Heat starting lineup

With this blockbuster trade finalized, the new-look Miami team is set to field a formidable starting five. The projected lineup features:

Tyler Herro during a Miami Heat match.

Bucks predicted starting five

PG: Tyler Herro

SG: Ryan Rollins

SF: Kyle Kuzma

PF: Jaime Jaquez

C: Myles Turner

Celtics left empty-handed

The Miami Heat won the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes on Monday night in a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, leaving the Boston Celtics on the outside looking in.

Why didn’t the Celtics win the deal? Well, it just sounds like Miami offered more for Giannis. Shams Charania detailed Boston’s trade package, which included Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks. Miami threw in three first-round picks along with a bevy of impact players, which looks to have made the Heat’s offer more competitive.

It is still surprising that the Celtics did not hesitate to offer Jaylen Brown, the very player who kept them alive and carried them to the playoffs in a season where many had written them off due to Jayson Tatum’s injury. But Brown was there, and some even believed he deserved MVP recognition for his efforts.

Expectations for the Heat

The Heat, alongside Pat Riley, want to get back to competing immediately. It is tough to move on from Tyler Herro, who is an All-Star and was arguably above Bam Adebayo in terms of overall team impact. However, the Miami squad now has a highly promising roster and it will clearly be considered a legitimate contender with that explosive duo of Bam and Giannis.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly not interested in trading Evan Mobley for Giannis Antetokounmpo heading into the next NBA season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers could be considered a disappointment after being swept in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks, especially given the market moves they had made. Recently, rumors circulated regarding a connection and a potential trade involving Evan Mobley to bring in Giannis Antetokounmpo, but it appears that will not happen.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Cavaliers have “no appetite” to trade Mobley for Antetokounmpo. “I believe Cleveland does not have any real appetite or interest in that type of deal because Evan Mobley is really their only bridge to a future beyond Donovan Mitchell, who’s coming up on 30 years old. He’s already a major contributor to this group. A Defensive Player of the Year. A perennial All-Star candidate. I just don’t really see that happening.”

Fischer believes that the Cavs will hedge on the side of caution and youth with this situation. Evan Mobley is still a young star who has room to grow, and he also doesn’t have the same kind of injury concerns that Giannis Antetokounmpo has, as well. Additionally, according to reports, the preferred destinations for Giannis are Boston and Miami.

Koby Altman clears up the rumors

While speaking with reporters at his end-of-season news conference on Friday, Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman seemed to say plenty about the Evan Mobley for Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors. “I’m not going to speculate on any players outside these walls,” Altman explained, per Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks.

“All I can tell you is, since Evan’s been here, we’ve had the third-best record in the league for five years. Now, we don’t have a championship to show for that yet, right? Boston and Denver, the other two ahead of us, they have a championship to show for that, but all Evan has done is impact winning. He’s been remarkable for us in terms of our ascent the last five years. He’s a huge part of what we do.”

Almost immediately after the Knicks swept the Cavaliers, it was reported that February acquisition James Harden is expected to opt out of his current contract and receive a new multi-year deal from Cleveland. Additionally, Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell will become extension-eligible during the NBA offseason.

The moves of the Cavs will be interesting to follow as they remain a contender, and they will try to address what they are missing, especially while those rumors of a LeBron James homecoming remain in the air.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly has the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics as his preferred destinations for the next NBA season.
Offseason trade rumors for the upcoming summer are already flourishing, and we will be following them to see how they progress. One of the figures already being talked about is Giannis Antetokounmpo and his potential departure from the Milwaukee Bucks, with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics listed as his possible destinations.

Stein reports that the Heat have long been a potential suitor for the Bucks star, and that while Giannis Antetokounmpo might have legitimate interest in the Celtics, it’s not clear what level of interest the Celtics have in return.

Boston was one of the teams that reportedly reached out to the Bucks at the trade deadline regarding Antetokounmpo, but nothing materialized. A potential deal would almost assuredly mean the Celtics would have to part ways with Jaylen Brown, who has the Rockets interested in him and is up for a contract extension this offseason.

What the Heat can offer

As far as the Heat, a potential package would likely include Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Tyler Herro, and some combination of draft picks. This would be a considerable trade involving quality players, but the Bucks will likely look for a star in return, and that is where the Celtics could step in by offering Jaylen Brown.

Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Another factor that could play a role in where Antetokounmpo is traded is the fact that he reportedly wants to remain in the Eastern Conference, Stein reports. It’s viewed as the path of least resistance in terms of getting back to the NBA Finals as opposed to having to go through the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

Despite injury issues this past NBA season, the former No. 15 overall pick was still an elite-level player. He averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists with splits of 62.4% shooting from the field, 33.3% shooting from the 3-point line, and 65 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Another possible destination

The Dallas Mavericks also remain an interesting subplot in all of this. Stein reports Antetokounmpo has long been intrigued by the possibility of playing in Dallas, originally because of the opportunity to team up with Luka Doncic before Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025.

Antetokounmpo’s close relationship with former Mavericks coach Jason Kidd also helped fuel that interest over the years. Kidd has since exited Dallas, though Stein reports that may not eliminate the Mavericks as a possibility.

Carlos Delfino clarified what separates Victor Wembanyama from legends like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Carlos Delfino knows a thing or two about NBA basketball, the former first-round pick had an eight-year career. Hence, he’s an authorized voice. So, when he noted the differences between Victor Wembanyama and names like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, one must listen.

In an exclusive interview that Carlos Delfino gave to Bolavip Argentina, the former small forward spoke deeply about pretty much everything. Of course, he was asked about NBA’s newest sensation, Victor Wembanyama. Given that Delfino played with Kobe, LeBron and was a teammate of Giannis, he was able to compare them.

“Youth gives you that recklessness, but it also gives you physical dominance at a level that, compared to Kobe, LeBron, or Giannis when they were young, they didn’t have that early dominance that they later achieved,” Delfino said. “Wemby is agile, tall, he changes shots, he changes the dynamics and geometry on the court. He’s very impressive.”

Wembanyama is something never seen before in the NBA

The NBA has seen taller players than Wembanyama. The Spurs center comes at 7’5″ tall, which falls shorter to Yao Ming, Tacko Fall, and Shawn Bradley (all 7’6″), Gheorge Muresan, and Manute Bol (7’7″). However, there is a key difference.

Victor Wembanyama of San Antonio Spurs.

Those towering presences were good defenders and able to attack under the rim. Wembanyama can do that and more. He can dribble, he can shoot it from distance, and his agility is unreal for a guy his size. Also, he’s been durable so far in his career. Ming, Bradley, Muresan, and Bol were too injury prone during his NBA days.

The Spurs have a history of elite big men

If there’s a team that can factually say that they’ve been successful time and time again by surrounding top-tier big men with a good, competent core, it’s the Spurs. From solid veterans like Pau Gasol, Dennis Rodman, Artis Gilmore, and LaMarcus Aldridge, to absolute legends like David Robinson and Tim Duncan, the Spurs know how to ride with big men as the first option.

Robinson and Duncan are some of the best big men of all time. Now, they got Wembanyama, and if he delivers a championship, he will etch his name alongside Duncan and Robinson. For now, he is already dominating and made the Spurs a contender.

Despite dropping Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals to the surging San Antonio Spurs, the Oklahoma City Thunder remain optimistic about their championship push even as blockbuster rumors swirl regarding a potential offseason pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to dominate the NBA rumor mill as a prime candidate to change jerseys. While initial speculation hinted at a blockbuster move ahead of the trade deadline, buzz is building that the ‘Greek Freak’ could seek a fresh start away from the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason, with the Oklahoma City Thunder emerging as a fascinating potential landing spot.

As the Thunder battle the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, a recent breakdown from Forbes‘ Evan Sidery outlines exactly what it would take financially for OKC’s front office to pull off a monumental trade for the two-time MVP this summer.

“The Thunder only need to decline Isaiah Hartenstein’s team option this summer to become apron-compliant for a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade: Bucks receive Chet Holmgren, Lu Dort, 2026 1st and OKC receive Giannis,” Sidery reported via X.

Pairing a transcendent superstar like Antetokounmpo with newly crowned MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—alongside surging depth pieces like Ajay Mitchell, whose breakout performance fueled OKC’s semifinal series win over the Los Angeles Lakers—could instantly transform the Thunder into an unstoppable NBA powerhouse next season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Thunder’s rumored trade deadline pursuit of Giannis

Ahead of this past February’s trade deadline, Oklahoma City emerged as one of the premier suitors checking in on the availability of the ‘Greek Freak.’ However, while several teams across the league weighed massive offers, the Thunder internal brain trust took a distinct, calculated approach to a potential blockbuster deal.

According to reports from NBC Sports, the Thunder were hesitant to completely gut their historic treasure trove of draft capital for Giannis. Instead, OKC’s hypothetical package centered around a blue-chip young star, dangling Chet Holmgren as the crown jewel of the transaction. Ultimately, Milwaukee’s front office chose to block out the outside noise, opting to hold onto their franchise cornerstone for the remainder of the campaign.

Projected lineup: How Giannis fits in Oklahoma City

With speculation mounting that the two-time MVP is actively angling for a fresh start outside of Milwaukee, anticipation is building over what a revamped Thunder rotation would look like next season. Assuming general manager Sam Presti pulls the trigger on an offseason mega-deal, here is how Oklahoma City’s projected starting five shakes out with Antetokounmpo in the mix:

PG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

SG: Alex Caruso (or Luguentz Dort)

SF: Jalen Williams

PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo

C: Chet Holmgren

Myles Turner reveals one of those ugly things that was happening during the Giannis Antetokounmpo era with the Milwaukee Bucks, and the worst part is that he revealed how weak the head coach's reaction was.
Myles Turner recently opened up about a surprising lack of accountability within the Milwaukee Bucks locker room during his time as a teammate to Giannis Antetokounmpo. The veteran center described a culture where scheduled times were treated as mere suggestions, highlighting a significant disconnect between the coaching staff’s expectations and the players’ daily actions during a disappointing season.

The declarations from Turner paint a picture of an organization struggling to maintain basic professional standards under its current leadership. “Doc Rivers, he didn’t fine anybody. Guys were late, guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things that I’ve personally experienced,” Turner revealed on a recent Game Recognize Game episode.

Turner further explained that the lack of discipline forced him to adjust his own schedule just to avoid wasting time waiting for others. “It got to the point where I just knew not to show up until an hour after they said the plane was taking off… Giannis is gonna show up whenever he wants,” he added, emphasizing that the star’s behavior set a difficult precedent for the rest of the roster.

Fines for arriving late to meetings

Doc Rivers’ relaxed attitude toward discipline has raised questions about whether such a permissive environment can ever lead to a championship-caliber team. When superstars like Antetokounmpo are allowed to operate without consequences, it often erodes the mutual respect required for a cohesive unit, especially when veteran players are used to the strict structures found in other successful NBA franchises.

“[Doc Rivers] didn’t fine anybody [for being late] … It got to the point where I just knew not to show up until an hour after they said the plane was taken off. … Giannis is gonna show up whenever he wants.”

– Myles Turner 👀

(via @gamerecgamepod)pic.twitter.com/mKJNosN7dC
— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) May 15, 2026

In most professional organizations, the cost of being tardy is quite steep to ensure every player remains focused on the collective goal. NBA teams typically levy fines ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 for a first offense of being late to a meeting or practice, with those amounts doubling or tripling for subsequent infractions or missed team flights.

For a team that finished the 2026 season with a 32-50 record, the absence of these financial deterrents may have contributed to their overall collapse on the court. Without the threat of being fined, players often lose the sense of urgency needed to compete at the highest level, leaving the organization in a “dumpster fire” state that ultimately led to Rivers’ departure from the bench.

The Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly had nothing to do with the selection of the new head coach, Taylor Jenkins, who will be in place next NBA season.
The Milwaukee Bucks have the future in limbo, with many uncertainties that are beginning to clear up slightly with the deal to make Taylor Jenkins the franchise’s new head coach, but something to take into account is that, according to reports, Giannis Antetokounmpo did not have participation in the process.

According to Shams Charania, Giannis has had no contact at all with the Bucks front office since the trade deadline. “I’m not aware of any involvement from Giannis in this search process… My understanding is that there’s been zero communication between Giannis and Bucks top brass since the deadline.”

The tensions, although there have been some doubtful statements, show that there is a break or an almost broken relationship between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, a love story that could end in a bad way, but that still sees changes being made to stay together.

Jenkins is a student of the game

Jenkins, a Bucks assistant under Mike Budenholzer in 2018-19, went 250-214 as the winningest coach in Memphis Grizzlies history and made three playoff appearances across six seasons with the franchise before being fired in March 2025.

Taylor Jenkins during a Memphis Grizzlies game.

Jenkins was seen as the top available option in the NBA coaching landscape, and his player development pedigree, along with his tenure as a culture setter and someone who drives competitiveness, made him the Bucks’ top target. The Bucks finished 32-50 this season, snapping a streak of nine consecutive years in the playoffs.

Does Giannis want to leave the Bucks?

Antetokounmpo enters the final guaranteed season of his contract next season and has explored trade options with the franchise. Antetokounmpo, when asked whether he had played his last game in a Milwaukee uniform earlier this month, did not close the door on staying with the Bucks.

“That’s a very good question,” Antetokounmpo said. “I don’t know. It’s not up to me. We’ll see.“ It is an answer filled with uncertainty that, in another moment, would have been stated with more confidence; now, the mood and intentions seem to indicate that he wants to leave.

Giannis Antetokounmpo addressed his looming contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, delivering a pointed message regarding his future with the franchise.
Following the Milwaukee Bucks‘ season finale against the Philadelphia 76ers, Giannis Antetokounmpo addressed the mounting speculation regarding his future. The two-time MVP noted that the Bucks have yet to put a formal extension on the table and playfully deflected questions about his long-term plans by pointing to the real decision-maker in his household.

“Before we even talk about an extension, somebody’s got to offer me that,” Antetokounmpo told reporters. “I don’t wear the pants in my relationship. I got to ask my wife. If my wife says yes, yes. If she says no, no. It’s up to her. So you guys got to ask her. Find her on social media. Follow her podcast.”

The lighthearted response is vintage Giannis, a trademark move to navigate the league’s relentless rumor mill. However, beneath the humor lies genuine uncertainty. Following a turbulent season in Milwaukee, questions about his eventual destination have created significant buzz across the league.

That noise only intensified following a recent report detailing the Miami Heat’s aggressive pursuit of the “Greek Freak” at the trade deadline, a move that nearly saw Miami beat out the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves for his services.

Antetokounmpo’s summer blueprint

While his long-term status will dominate headlines in the coming months, Antetokounmpo is prioritizing his individual development.
