Best-case scenario for Butler’s return

For the Warriors, an early return for Butler would be the ideal outcome, but they are unwilling to rush him back. However, Siegel reported that Christmas Day against the Denver Nuggets has surfaced in conversations as a possible best-case scenario.

“The best estimate one could give at this time for Butler’s return would realistically be sometime in January or February 2027,” Siegel wrote. “Whether or not he returns sooner will be fully dependent on his progress and the Warriors’ medical staff consistently evaluating him early in the season.”

The Warriors went 46-22 in NBA regular-season games with Butler in the lineup before his injury, illustrating the impact he has made since joining Golden State. “Butler has been slowly increasing his on-court work while traveling the globe this summer, and the most recent strength tests on his right ACL recovery have shown notable progress, according to league sources,” Slater wrote.

Butler is expected to participate only in individual court and strength work when Golden State opens training camp in approximately a month, according to Slater. He still faces extensive rehabilitation before receiving clearance for full-contact work, with Slater also describing a January or February return as an optimistic target.

On the injury front, several of their critical players have made progress toward a return to action: Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody. After they went down last season, Golden State Warriors struggled to stay afloat in the crowded Western Conference. But now, according to a report by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, they are moving toward a quick return that is going way ahead of schedule.

“[It’s been] tough not being around my guys,” Butler said of his last five weeks. “Hard not being able to play the game I love. And not being able to travel. Tough, but the rehab has been going. We’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing to try to get back on the timeline.”

But like the positive and introspective person Butler has always been, he kept his perspective on the situation. “It’s not all bad, I still get to tell people I’m an NBA player. So I’m happy about that,” Butler said before gesturing toward two-way players Nate Williams and Malevy Leons, two lockers over.

“There are still some wonderful guys who are taking advantage of their opportunity, with some guys being down. That was me at one point back in my Chicago days. So I get very happy, and it makes me smile when I see people play well. And then, you know, I got my family around, kids around. And then I just know that I’m working back towards something. So it all keeps you in perspective.”

The Warriors miss Butler
