Shaquille O'Neal commented on why Stephen Curry and Kobe Bryant could be included in the greatest NBA player of all time debate.
The GOAT debate is usually narrowed down to Michael Jordan and LeBron James, but Shaquille O’Neal, speaking from his perspective as an NBA legend, looked to expand that conversation by adding Stephen Curry and Kobe Bryant.

Shaquille O’Neal appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he was initially asked whether it is unfair to compare different eras. The legendary center agreed, using the example of himself and Wilt Chamberlain.

“Try to put me up against a Wilt, his era versus my era, me personally, I think I would have completely dominated him. So I like to break it down by eras, but when you talk about that GOAT conversations, I would like to hear all the names, and I’m about to add one more name, because he’s unbelievable, rather just going Mike and LeBron…Got to put Kobe in there,” O’Neal said.

“And now I’m standing here on the Pat McAfee show, got to put Steph Curry in it,” O’Neal continued. “The only thing Steph Curry has not done that those other guys have done is the finishing dunk. Think about what I’m saying. Like all the other guys, they have a finishing dunk play, but Steph Curry, behind that line, the impact is similar to a finishing dunk, but you definitely got to put him as one of the greatest players of all time.”

Stephen Curry of Golden State Warriors.

Why Curry and Kobe deserve to be in the GOAT debate?

Kobe Bryant was the closest competitor to Michael Jordan in terms of playing style and mental toughness, known for the “Mamba Mentality.” With five championship rings, one more than LeBron James and one fewer than Jordan, Kobe proved he could win across different stages of his career, first alongside Shaquille O’Neal and later as the unquestioned leader in 2009 and 2010.

His 12 All-Defensive Team selections surpassed those of Michael Jordan and LeBron James, strengthening his case as one of the most complete players on both ends of the floor in NBA history.

On the other hand, Stephen Curry deserved a place in the debate not only for his four championships and two MVP awards, including the only unanimous MVP in NBA history, but also for transforming the way basketball is played. Before Curry, the three-point shot was a complementary weapon; after him, it became the primary offensive tool across the league.

His ability to score from virtually anywhere forced defenses to completely adjust. His impact went beyond statistics, as he led a tactical revolution that even players like LeBron James did not achieve at the same transformative level.

A historic night from Bam Adebayo has reignited the conversation around the NBA’s greatest scoring performances. His explosive outing now sits in rare company alongside legendary games by Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant.
Bam Adebayo delivered one of the most shocking scoring performances the NBA has seen in decades when he erupted for 83 points for the Miami Heat, instantly entering one of the league’s most exclusive record lists.

The historic night placed him alongside two of the greatest scoring performances ever recorded: Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game in 1962 and Kobe Bryant’s 81-point masterpiece in 2006.

His 83-point outing now sits directly between those two historic performances. From field goals to three-pointers and free throws, each game tells a story about how the points were produced and how they reshaped the league’s record books.

The stats behind Bam Adebayo’s 83 points for the Miami Heat

Bam Adebayo’s 83 points for the Miami Heat came in a 150–129 win over the Washington Wizards on March 10, 2026. He finished the game shooting 20-for-43 from the field, while also attempting a remarkable number of three-pointers for a player who usually operates near the basket, knocking down 7-of-22 from beyond the arc.

Bam Adebayo of the Heat celebrates with teammates after a 150-129 win (Source: Megan Briggs/Getty Images)

What ultimately pushed the total into historic territory was his production at the foul line. He converted 36 free throws on 43 attempts, setting new NBA single-game records for both free throws made and attempted.

Combined with his field goals and perimeter shots, those free throws allowed him to reach the 83-point mark in a game where he already had 31 points in the first quarter and 62 by the end of the third.

Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point masterpiece

Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game came on March 2, 1962, when the Philadelphia Warriors defeated the New York Knicks 169–147. He dominated the game primarily through relentless interior scoring, finishing the night making 36 field goals, repeatedly scoring around the rim against a Knicks defense that struggled to contain him throughout the game.

Wilt Chamberlain (Source: NBA)

At the time, the NBA did not yet have a three-point line, meaning every field goal he made counted for two points. Another key factor in reaching the century mark was his unexpected efficiency from the free-throw line.

Chamberlain, who was often criticized for his struggles at the stripe during his career, converted 28 free throws in that game. Those points proved essential in pushing his total to 100, creating a record that still stands today as the highest single-game scoring performance in history.

Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance

Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game occurred on January 22, 2006. Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Toronto Raptors, he carried his team to a 122–104 comeback victory.

Kobe Bryant #8 of the Los Angeles Lakers at the 2006 NBA Playoffs (Source: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images)

He reached the 81-point mark by shooting 28-for-46 from the field, repeatedly attacking the Raptors’ defense in isolation situations and transition opportunities.

His scoring included seven three-pointers, which stretched the defense and forced Toronto to guard him well beyond the perimeter. He also capitalized on his trips to the foul line, converting 18 of his 20 free-throw attempts.

The combination of high efficiency from the field, strong three-point shooting and near-perfect free-throw accuracy allowed him to reach 81 points, a total that stood as the second-highest for nearly two decades until Adebayo’s recent performance.

Bam Adebayo had a night for the ages, surpassing Kobe Bryant with the second highest scoring game by a single player in NBA history with 83 points for the Miami Heat against the Washington Wizards.
Bam Adebayo didn’t hesitate to rank his 83-point performance for the Miami Heat against the Washington Wizards as the most important moment in his NBA career.

“Number 1, for sure,” Adebayo told FanDuel Sports Network after the Heat’s 150-129 win in Miami, in front of a crowd excited to see him surpass the 81-point mark set by Kobe Bryant on January 22, 2006.

Wilt Chamberlain still holds the record for the most points scored by a single player in an NBA game, having posted 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks in 1962.

Only Wilt Chamberlain had a highest-scoring game than Adebayo

Adebayo, however, can still take pride in holding the second highest-scoring game in league history. “Obviously, top three performances of all time,” Adebayo told Norman Powell when his teammate mentioned Wilt and Kobe’s numbers.

"Top 3 performances of all time" 💪 pic.twitter.com/huPPRqGAme
— Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) March 11, 2026

Even though Chamberlain still tops the list, Adebayo’s performance counts with video evidence, something Wilt’s historic game doesn’t. It may not change the facts, but at least Bam can look back at the highlights from his historic night any time he wants.

How Adebayo reached the 83 points in historic night in Miami

It appeared to be written in the stars, as Adebayo admitted postgame that he felt this could be a special game when he already had 43 points at halftime. It all started with a strong first quarter, where his 31 points outscored the 29 scored by the entire Wizards team.

When he surpassed the 70-point mark in the fourth quarter and it was evident that Adebayo was on pace to surpass Bryant, the Heat did everything in their power to help Bam make history.

The final minutes at the Kaseya Center were wild, with the crowd on the edge of their seats as the Heat’s only intention was to help Bam score, whereas the Wizards tried to stop Adebayo from making them the victims of a record.

In the end, the Heat’s effort paid off as Adebayo got enough shots to surpass Kobe and set a new milestone. Getting to Chamberlain’s 100 points remains a nearly impossible goal for any player, but Adebayo got closer than many all-time greats.

83! pic.twitter.com/qn8x8xsuxM
— Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) March 11, 2026

Adebayo breaks the Heat record set by LeBron James

LeBron James held the previous record in franchise history, with 61 points for the Heat against the Charlotte Bobcats on March 3, 2014. On Tuesday night, Adebayo scored 20 of 43 field goals, 7 of 22 three-pointers, and 36 of 43 free throws to leave The King behind.

The numbers don’t lie. Adebayo has once again proved what he’s capable of, and even if he eventually has a night off, his 83-point performance will always be a reminder of how much respect he deserves.

Michael Jordan commented on the GOAT debate and the comparisons often made between him, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
The debate over the greatest player in the history of the NBA is something that will likely never end. It continues from generation to generation, shaped by personal preferences and different perspectives. When someone who is constantly mentioned in those conversations, as Michael Jordan speaks about it, the discussion naturally draws attention, especially when he also references players such as LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

In the latest Insights to Excellence clip released by NBA on NBC, Jordan, despite often being cited as the GOAT himself, offered a more nuanced take on the conversation. He emphasized the importance each generation has played in shaping the league and its broader history.

“The whole GOAT term is never going to be something that I ever will get high or low about,” Jordan said. “It just doesn’t exist with me. I never played against Oscar Robertson or Jerry West. Would have loved to, absolutely loved to, just as competitive as I am. I actually learned from them, and we paved the road to the Kobes and the LeBrons, right?”

Jordan’s point highlights how difficult it is to reach a definitive conclusion in the debate. Many of the greatest players never faced each other directly, as he himself noted. Jordan never competed against LeBron, especially not during their primes, which makes it nearly impossible to truly measure who might be the best across eras.

Michael Jordan during a Chicago Bulls match.

What the GOAT debate generates, according to Jordan

As Jordan explained, part of the “beauty of the game” lies in how players build upon what previous stars brought to the court. In that way, each generation contributes to the evolution of basketball and pushes the sport forward. “Don’t then now use that against the player that actually taught you the game or that you learned from,” Jordan cautioned while describing what he sees as a flaw in how the GOAT in the NBA debate is often handled.

“That’s why I have a tough time. And look, I would love to have played against LeBron and Kobe in my prime. I would love to have played against those guys but we’ll never be able to know that. Part of the marketing, part of the hype, part of the things that tries to elevate one generation above the other, I think it creates animosity.”

In many ways, the conversation only adds more mystique and intrigue around these players. It elevates their status in basketball history, whether the discussion focuses on Michael Jordan, LeBron, Kobe, or even legends from earlier eras such as Wilt Chamberlain. Even for those who did not watch them play live, the stories and debates surrounding them often make their achievements seem almost unreal.

Jordan also went on to specifically praise LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant for the way they have elevated the game in their own eras. At the same time, he reiterated his broader point that the GOAT debate should not diminish the impact each generation has had on the sport.

Some seasons become legendary not just for wins, but for points racked up night after night. From mid-century pioneers to modern sharpshooters, the league has seen players rewrite the scoring narrative, setting marks that endure as benchmarks of talent and endurance.

The record books capture more than numbers; they tell stories of stamina, style and the relentless pursuit of points. Each historic season reflects a blend of strategy, opportunity and individual brilliance that defines how basketball greatness is measured over time.

Wilt Chamberlain | 4,029 Points | 1961-62 Season

Wilt Chamberlain (Source: @NBA)

If the NBA’s statistical records were a fortress, Wilt Chamberlain‘s 1961-62 season would be the towering, inviolable citadel. This campaign not only holds the all-time record for total points in a single season (4,029), but it marks the only instance in league history a player has eclipsed the 4,000-point threshold.

Playing for the Philadelphia Warriors, he did more than just average a celestial 50.4 points per game; he achieved the near-impossible feat of playing virtually every minute, averaging an astounding 48.5 minutes per game (more than the regulation 48, thanks to overtime periods).

This was the season the myth of “Wilt the Stilt” became tangible: it included the legendary 100-point game and 45 contests where he scored 50 or more. It wasn’t just a display of offensive prowess; it was a testament to superhuman durability and volume in an era lacking today’s nutritional science and specialized training.

The figure of 4,029 points is so astronomical that the second-highest total also belongs to him, falling almost 500 points short. He didn’t just set a record; he warped the limits of possibility in professional basketball.

Wilt Chamberlain | 3,586 Points | 1962-63 Season

Wilt Chamberlain (Source: @warriors)

Following his historic 4,000-point campaign, Wilt Chamberlain immediately proved his feat was no cosmic anomaly. With the franchise relocating and playing for the San Francisco Warriors, he returned in 1962-63 to log the second-most points in NBA history (3,586).

This massive total translated to a 44.8 points per game average—a mark that would be the career highlight for almost any other player, but for him, it was merely a “slight” dip.

Rather than slowing down, the titan simply maintained his offensive machinery at a blistering pace. He remained an unstoppable force in the paint, leveraging his size and strength before defenses truly adapted.

What is most compelling about this performance is that while the 1961-62 season earned the folklore status, this 3,586-point campaign solidified his reputation as the most dominant and consistent scorer of his generation, demonstrating he could relentlessly threaten his own high-water mark year after year.

Michael Jordan | 3,041 Points | 1986-87 Season

Michael Jordan (Source: Andy Lyons /Allsport)

We leap from the sheer power and height of the 1960s to the athletic explosion and grace of the modern era with the emergence of Michael Jordan in the 1986-87 season.

His 3,041 points not only represent the third-highest total of all time, but it remains the highest total achieved by any player in NBA history since the league’s merger with the ABA in 1976. Jordan is also the only player besides Chamberlain to ever surpass the 3,000-point mark.

Just 23 years old and coming back from a foot injury that marred the previous season, this was the year Air Jordan transformed from a superstar-in-the-making into a force of nature. He averaged 37.1 points per game, leading the league in scoring for the first time.

This was a scoring demonstration that seamlessly blended the mid-range jumper, spectacular drives, and deadly free-throw efficiency. This season served as the formal declaration that the league had found its new face—a player capable of reaching numerical altitudes that only the legendary Wilt had previously touched.

Wilt Chamberlain | 3,033 Points | 1960-61 Season

Wilt Chamberlain (Source: @NBA)

By his second year in the league, Wilt Chamberlain was no longer a novelty; he was a statistical problem for every opponent. The 1960-61 season, his second with the Philadelphia Warriors, saw him tally 3,033 points, establishing the fourth-highest total in NBA history.

This total translates to a punishing average of 38.4 points per game, a number that in almost any other era would have been an undisputed league record. This was a critical year of consolidation, proving his dominance was not a fluke.

The remarkable thing about this output is not just the volume, but the sheer consistency with which, early in his career, he pushed the boundaries of what was achievable.

In a league with less restrictive rules for interior play and a scarcity of defensive specialists built to handle his size, he made scoring over 35 points a night seem routine, laying the groundwork for his legendary record-breaking season the following year.

Wilt Chamberlain | 2,948 Points | 1963-64 Season

Closing out the list of the five highest-scoring seasons is Wilt Chamberlain once more, tallying 2,948 points in the 1963-64 season, his final full campaign with the San Francisco Warriors before his trade to Philadelphia. While this total is the lowest on this top-five list, it remains a nearly insurmountable statistical peak, generating an average of 36.9 points per game.

What makes this particular season unique is that it was a year when The Big Dipper (as he was known for his tendency to drop the ball in the basket rather than dunk) began to showcase a more rounded game.

Alongside his monstrous scoring volume, that season marked a personal high in total assists (403) at the time, signaling a conscious, and often criticized, effort to involve his teammates more.

Michael Jordan | 2,868 Points | 1987-88 Season

Michael Jordan (Source: Jonathan Daniel /Allsport)

Following his 3,000-point offensive assault in ’87, Michael Jordan returned in the 1987-88 season not just to maintain an incredible scoring volume, but to achieve defensive supremacy. His 2,868 points represent his second-highest single-season total, averaging a massive 35.0 points per game.

This season was a pinnacle of his career in terms of global impact. He not only dominated the scoring charts for the second consecutive year, but he also captured the Defensive Player of the Year award and his first career MVP.

Scoring nearly 2,900 points while simultaneously leading the league in steals and establishing himself as the premier defender at his position is an unprecedented feat. This campaign proved he could not only outscore everyone but do so with lethal efficiency without sacrificing any other facet of the game.

Kobe Bryant | 2,832 Points | 2005-06 Season

Kobe Bryant (Source: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images)

The 2005-06 season was a period of both personal hell and glory for Kobe Bryant. With the Los Angeles Lakers in a rebuilding phase, he was forced to carry an offensive load few players in history have shouldered.

His total of 2,832 points was the highest in the NBA during the 2000s and cemented his place in the historical volume elite. He averaged a frantic 35.4 points per game. This season is the epitome of the “Mamba Mentality”—an unrelenting focus that culminated in his legendary 81-point game against the Raptors.

His 2,832 points were built on a blend of post-ups, impossible mid-range jumpers, and an unwavering will to take and make any shot at any time. His total stands as a testament to the dedication to his craft and the ability of a modern-era player to challenge the scoring marks of the old school.

Bob McAdoo | 2,831 Points | 1974-75 Season

Bob McAdoo (Source: NBA)

In an era where the game centered on the paint and the mid-range jumper, Bob McAdoo represented the pinnacle of scoring efficiency for a big man. In the 1974-75 season, playing for the Buffalo Braves, he tallied 2,831 points, the highest total achieved by a center since the years of Wilt Chamberlain.

This monumental effort earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Averaging 34.5 points per game, he showcased unusual versatility for his height, utilizing a near-unblockable fadeaway jump shot.

His style was not the brute force of Wilt, but a fluid grace that allowed him to score with high precision. Achieving nearly 2,850 points without the benefit of the three-point line underscores the incredible skill and mastery of the post and mid-range game he possessed.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar | 2,822 Points | 1971-72 Season

The 1971-72 season was a display of total dominance for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then still Lew Alcindor) with the Milwaukee Bucks. His 2,822 points not only secured his second scoring title but also earned him his second MVP award. He averaged 34.8 points per game, a feat accomplished with astonishing efficiency.

The hallmark of his point production was the iconic Skyhook, a shot that was impossible to block. He led the league in field goal percentage that year at over 57%, an incredible figure for such a high-volume scorer.

This season was instrumental in establishing him as a worthy successor to Wilt’s hegemony, proving he could fuse historical point production with surgical accuracy—a trait that often separated the great centers.

James Harden | 2,818 Points | 2018-19 Season

James Harden (Source: Tom Pennington/Getty Images)

James Harden and his 2018-19 season represent a case study in modern scoring, centered on analytics and rule exploitation. His 2,818 points placed him as the leading scorer of the 21st century after Bryant, achieving an average of 36.1 points per game. This is the highest season average since Jordan’s aforementioned 1986-87 peak.

He turned basketball into a high-efficiency equation. His arsenal was built on the step-back three-pointer and an unparalleled ability to draw fouls and capitalize from the free-throw line.

His memorable streak of 32 consecutive games with 30 or more points was not just a record of consistency but a demonstration of the offensive burden he carried in Houston, forcing defenses to rewrite their playbooks.

Rick Barry | 2,775 Points | 1966-67 Season

Rick Barry (Source: NBA)

Rick Barry‘s 1966-67 season with the San Francisco Warriors stands as one of the most explosive scoring displays by a young player in history. Achieving 2,775 points in his second professional season, he led the league with a scorching 35.6 points per game—the highest average by a non-center until Michael Jordan arrived two decades later.

His scoring was defined by a unique blend of elegance and intensity. Known for his unorthodox underhand free-throw technique, he was a relentless driver and a masterful shooter from the perimeter (before the three-point line).

This performance powered the Warriors to the Finals and demonstrated that a forward could challenge the scoring hierarchy dominated by centers. He was aggressive, precise, and unstoppable, solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s greatest pure scorers.

Michael Jordan | 2,753 Points | 1989-90 Season

Michael Jordan (Source: Brian Bahr /Allsport)

In the 1989-90 season, just one year before the Chicago Bulls dynasty began, Michael Jordan delivered another phenomenal scoring year, logging 2,753 points. This total, which led the league in scoring for the fourth consecutive year, translated to a robust average of 33.6 points per game.

This was arguably Jordan’s most physically demanding scoring season as he adjusted to Phil Jackson’s triangle offense, which initially required him to score more in isolation before the team structure solidified. It was a season of transition where he continued his offensive domination, showcasing refined post moves and a wider array of mid-range jumpers.

While perhaps less spectacular than his 3,000-point peak, this volume scoring season was crucial, proving he could still carry a massive offensive load while slowly transitioning to the team-oriented system that would bring championships.

Nate Archibald | 2,719 Points | 1972-73 Season

The 1972-73 season belongs uniquely to Nate Archibald. Playing for the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Archibald became the only player in NBA history to lead the league in both points and assists in the same season. His total of 2,719 points was achieved despite his small stature (6’1″), translating to an astonishing 34.0 points per game.

His scoring was a blend of blinding speed and deceptive power. He attacked the basket relentlessly, finishing layups and drawing fouls with remarkable consistency, all while navigating a league dominated by much taller players.

This was a legendary individual achievement, proving that volume scoring was not exclusive to the giants of the era. ‘Tiny’ Archibald was a scoring machine and a floor general rolled into one, setting a dual-record that remains unbroken.

Elgin Baylor | 2,719 Points | 1962-63 Season

Elgin Baylor (Source: NBA)

Elgin Baylor‘s 1962-63 season is a stunning example of prolific scoring often lost in the shadow of Wilt Chamberlain’s concurrent 3,586-point output. He matched Archibald’s total with 2,719 points for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging a breathtaking 34.0 points per game.

Baylor was a revolutionary scorer, famous for his mid-air acrobatics and ability to change direction and release point, inventing moves that later inspired players like Julius Erving and Michael Jordan.

Achieving such a high-volume total while maintaining an incredibly disruptive schedule speaks volumes about his sheer talent and commitment. He was, quite simply, an offensive genius ahead of his time.

Wilt Chamberlain | 2,707 Points | 1959-60 Season

Our final entry returns to where the scoring saga began: Wilt Chamberlain‘s 1959-60 rookie season. Playing for the Philadelphia Warriors, he immediately established himself as a force of nature, compiling 2,707 points—a record for a rookie that still stands today.

He averaged an incredible 37.6 points per game in his very first year. This campaign was the first seismic shock he delivered to the NBA. He didn’t just break the rookie scoring record; he obliterated the previous all-time season scoring record (held by Bob Pettit) by over 500 points.

This total is a foundational piece of his legacy, showing that his unprecedented scoring wasn’t something he built up to, but rather the default setting of his game from the moment he stepped onto the court. It was the moment the league realized it had to fundamentally change its rules to deal with The Big Dipper.

The NBA playoffs have long served as a measure of who can endure its pressure-packed rhythm. Over time, only a handful of players managed to stay present through repeated runs, stacking games that reveal a different kind of greatness.

Their paths unfolded in varied ways: anchored by powerhouse teams, lifted by breakout seasons or sustained through sheer stability. Each appearance extended a legacy built on durability as much as performance.

Even without the rankings in view, the scale of their postseason careers suggests something larger—an uncommon ability to return to the league’s harshest stage and meet its demands again and again.

Which NBA star played the most playoff games?

When the question is “Who has played the most games in NBA playoff history?”, the answer lands squarely on LeBron James. As of the latest tally, he leads all players with 292 career playoff games.

LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025. (Source: Sam Hodde/Getty Images)

What’s remarkable isn’t just the number, but what it represents: decades of excellence, recurring contention, and an uncanny ability to remain essential as teams, teammates and playoff contexts changed around him. His postseason longevity surpassed previous-era veterans by combining durability with elite performance.

By the time he claimed the record (during the 2020 Finals), he had already played through multiple franchises — evolving from prodigy in Cleveland, to champion in Miami and leader in Los Angeles. The result is a playoff résumé that spans eras, rules changes and generational shifts.

NBA players with the most playoff games

LeBron James | 292 playoff games

LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025. (Source: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

The definition of postseason longevity in the NBA traces directly to the name LeBron James. With 292 playoff games played, his career reads like a chronicle of sustained relevance across eras, teammates, and shifting expectations. He has transcended the idea of a single peak; instead, he’s built a resume defined by consistency, adaptability, and dominance under pressure.

From his early Finals with Cleveland to title runs with Miami and Los Angeles, his presence in the most clutch moments became a given. His legacy isn’t just about raw talent, but about maintaining that talent at a level demanding excellence — season after season, playoff after playoff.

Derek Fisher (Source: Harry How/Getty Images)

Derek Fisher’s name served for years as the gold standard for postseason endurance. With 259 playoff appearances, he spent over a decade as the all-time leader, embodying the kind of consistency that doesn’t always grab headlines but endures in record books.

His value went far beyond box-score stats; he was a glue-guy, a veteran anchor in franchises that repeatedly went deep into the playoffs. He survived roster changes, injuries and the shifting tides of NBA dynasties — proving that longevity often demands more of heart and timing than flash.

Tim Duncan | 251 playoff games

Tim Duncan (Source: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Quietly commanding and eternally steady, Tim Duncan racked up 251 playoff games across a near two-decade career with the San Antonio Spurs — a testament to both personal discipline and organizational consistency.

He wasn’t a highlight-reel flash; he was the kind of presence that stabilized a team’s spine. His playoff longevity speaks to a stable environment, unshakeable fundamentals and a basketball IQ that made him reliable in moments when others crack. Every postseason appearance wasn’t just another stat — it was another chapter of quiet dominance woven into the fabric of Spurs history.

Robert Horry | 244 playoff games

Robert Horry (Source: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images)

For Robert Horry, 244 postseason games reflect a career defined by durability and clutch impact more than by consistent numbers. His journey spanned multiple teams and dynasties, marking him as a perennial postseason fixture.

He navigated the league’s shifting sands — from Houston to Los Angeles to San Antonio — adapting roles, systems and expectations. He didn’t always lead in scoring or rebounds, but he showed up when matters were biggest.

His name became synonymous with “big shot”, yet behind that moniker lies a career built on persistence, readiness and a capacity to endure — to keep showing up, season after season, when others came and went.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar | 237 playoff games

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Source: Stephen Dunn /Allsport)

As a bridge between eras, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played 237 playoff games, building a legacy that spanned decades and evolving styles of the game. His longevity speaks not only to longevity of career but to excellence maintained across changing basketball landscapes.

From his early days in Milwaukee to championship years in Los Angeles, he stood as a symbol of sustained greatness. He wasn’t just a star in one era — he remained relevant as the league transformed around him.

His playoff record reflects adaptation, dominance and an unwavering commitment. In his era, postseason survival wasn’t guaranteed; his ability to thrive across it marks him among the most enduring legends the NBA has ever seen.

Tony Parker | 226 playoff games

Tony Parker (Source: Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Tony Parker’s postseason résumé is built on steadiness rather than spectacle. Across 226 playoff games, he became the rhythmic pulse of the San Antonio Spurs‘ dynasty, navigating defenses with his trademark bursts to the rim and the poise of a veteran far beyond his years.

What stands out about his playoff legacy isn’t just longevity — it’s how seamlessly he adapted to shifting eras within the same franchise. Whether sharing the floor with an aging core or shepherding younger rotations, he remained the steady hand that kept San Antonio’s offense breathing in tense, low-margin situations.

Kobe Bryant | 220 playoff games

Kobe Bryant (Source: Harry How/Getty Images)

Few names are as entwined with postseason intensity as Kobe Bryant. His 220 playoff appearances are a monument to competitiveness, forged across waves of Lakers reinventions — from three-peat dominance to grueling rebuilds and title chases.

He thrived where pressure thickened. His playoff career reflects not only elite scoring, but an uncompromising insistence on bending the series to his will. Each run added another layer to the mythology surrounding one of the NBA’s fiercest competitors.

Manu Ginobili | 218 playoff games

Manu Ginobilli (Source: Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Manu Ginobili built a postseason legacy rooted in creativity, disruption, and timing. With 218 playoff games, he became one of the rare players whose impact often exceeded his minutes or role designation.

His playoff arc includes momentum-shifting threes, fearless drives, and defensive gambles that swung entire series. His adaptability — sixth man, starter, closer — reflects a career defined not by labels but by influence, making him one of the most quietly essential performers in modern postseason history.

Shaquille O’Neal | 216 playoff games

Shaquille O’Neal (Source: Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Shaquille O’Neal’s playoff presence was as immovable as his frame. Amassing 216 postseason games, he exerted a gravitational pull that reshaped opposing game plans long before tip-off.

His playoff years include dominant Finals runs, bruising interior battles, and the kind of physical imposition that forced entire defenses to compromise. Longevity in the postseason isn’t always kind to big men, yet Shaq maintained his influence deep into his career, evidence of both durability and unmatched interior force.

Scottie Pippen | 208 playoff games

Scottie Pippen (Source: Getty Images)

Scottie Pippen’s 208 playoff games underline his role as one of the NBA’s most versatile postseason performers. He operated as a connective tissue — elite defender, secondary playmaker, transition engine — whose influence often lived between the box score lines.

Across multiple eras and team constructions, he remained a constant. His postseason longevity reflects a skill set that aged gracefully, one built on anticipation, adaptability and an innate understanding of playoff basketball’s finer details.

Al Horford | 197 playoff games

Al Horford (Source: Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

Al Horford’s career shows that postseason value isn’t always tied to flash. With 197 playoff appearances, he has become one of the modern era’s most durable and quietly influential bigs, blending defensive intelligence with timely shooting and veteran composure.

His playoff longevity spans multiple franchises, systems, and roster cycles — yet his role rarely changes: stabilize the defense, stretch the floor, anchor possessions when the pace tightens. His presence in this top tier is a testament to how basketball IQ and versatility can extend a playoff life as effectively as raw athleticism.

Danny Ainge | 193 playoff games

Danny Ainge (Source: Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

Danny Ainge’s postseason career is one of subtle endurance, the kind that rarely earns top billing yet remains essential to winning cultures. His 193 playoff appearances place him among the most battle-tested guards in league history, a reflection of how consistently he fit winning environments.

His game wasn’t anchored in explosive scoring or superstar shine. Instead, he excelled within the margins — spacing the floor, accepting defensive challenges, and playing with an edge that often disrupted opponents at key junctures.

His playoff longevity came from adaptability: he survived era shifts, roster changes, and evolving roles without losing relevance. In a league shaped by stars, his sustained presence reminds how vital connective players are in the crucible of the postseason.

Karl Malone | 193 playoff games

Karl Malone (Source: Ronald Martinez/Allsport)

Karl Malone’s playoff volume tells a story of relentless consistency. With 193 postseason games, he stands as one of the few players whose durability and productivity kept their teams in perennial contention over a decade and a half.

His postseason identity was rooted in physicality and precision — bruising screens, punishing mid-range jumpers, and a body built for 48-minute battles. The Utah Jazz leaned on him the way few franchises have relied on a single forward, and year after year he delivered.

His playoff legacy is complex: enormous individual production paired with a championship gap. But in terms of sheer postseason presence, he remains one of the era’s immovable pillars, a power forward who simply refused to wear down.

Magic Johnson | 190 playoff games

Magic Johnson (Source: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images)

Magic Johnson’s relationship with the postseason was almost theatrical: each round offered another stage for invention. With 190 playoff games, he became not just a participant in championship runs, but one of the architects of modern postseason basketball.

His impact was multidimensional. He orchestrated offenses as if conducting a live performance — pushing tempo, reading defenses two steps ahead, and bending matchups with his unprecedented size-and-skill combination at point guard.

His playoff longevity reflects not only the Lakers’ dynasty, but his ability to elevate the stakes with charisma and precision. Few players in NBA history carried a postseason identity as instantly recognizable and consistently influential.

Robert Parish | 184 playoff games

Robert Parish (Source: NBA)

Robert Parish’s playoff résumé is a lesson in longevity powered by discipline. Across 184 postseason games, he became the quiet backbone of frontcourts built around more spotlighted stars, yet his reliability was often the detail that kept title-caliber teams grounded.

His postseason value didn’t rely on gaudy scoring lines. Instead, he provided stable interior defense, sound rebounding, and a mid-range touch that complemented Hall of Fame teammates.

His durability — both physical and mental — allowed him to bridge eras of basketball without sacrificing effectiveness. He may not be the loudest name on the list, but few players embody the concept of postseason endurance more efficiently.

A look into the steady hands that shaped NBA history at the line, where quiet mastery and relentless consistency turned simple shots into all-time marks of control and precision.

The free-throw line has a way of stripping the game down to its essence. No crowd surge, no defensive scramble—just a silent exchange between routine and nerve. Certain players learned to turn that stillness into steady points.

As the league evolved, so did the craft. Pace quickened, spacing widened, yet the line remained untouched, a narrow stage where precision mattered more than power. Those who mastered it carried an edge that outlasted shifts in style.

Their totals didn’t build through spectacle, but through repetition—a rhythm formed over years of late-night practice and high-pressure moments. In tracing the all-time leaders, the history of the NBA’s quietest skill begins to surface.

Who holds the all-time record for total free throws?

When it comes to drawing fouls, getting to the line, and sinking free throws with consistency over a long career, Karl Malone stands above the rest. According to the NBA’s official historical records, he is the all-time leader in career free throws made — a staggering 9,787.

Karl Malone #32 of the Utah Jazz in 2003. (Source: Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images)

He cemented that place in history on March 24, 2001, during his time with the Utah Jazz, when he sank the free throw that pushed him past Moses Malone for the number-one spot.

Over a 19-year NBA career (1985–2004), his ability to consistently get to the line was a cornerstone of his scoring. He led the league in free throws made eight different seasons, and in attempts seven times.

Behind him on the all-time list are legends like Moses Malone, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. For example, Moses made 8,531 free throws in his career, as StatMuse reported.

But what the gap underscores is just how dominant Karl Malone was in his niche. The fact that no player in NBA history has yet approached 9,787 made free throws tells us a lot about his unique mixture of skill, opportunity and longevity.

Karl Malone #32 of the Utah Jazz in 2001.
Cade Cunningham delivered a performance laden with emotion for the Detroit Pistons against the Washington Wizards, during which he surpassed an unwanted record set by Kobe Bryant, after equaling Michael Jordan.
On a night filled with magic, it was not the Washington Wizards who stole the spotlight, but rather Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham. The player etched his name into the history books, though not in the way he had hoped, as he exceeded an undesirable record held by NBA legend Kobe Bryant, while simultaneously equaling Michael Jordan in another significant statistic.

This bittersweet moment unfolded on Monday night against the Wizards, a team that has struggled in the early stages of the regular season. Cunningham joined the ranks of Jordan as the only two players in NBA history to record 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, 10+ assists, and 5+ steals in a single game. However, he also surpassed Bryant by missing more than 30 shots in a single game.

Despite these dramatic moments, the silver lining for Cunningham and the Pistons was the victory, as Detroit boasts an impressive 9-2 record at the onset of the regular season. This success ignites hope among the Pistons’ fan base, dreaming to achieve great things in the playoffs.

Cunningham’s leadership, alongside Dennis Jenkins, who excelled against the Wizards by scoring 24 points in 34 minutes, has generated considerable excitement among Eastern Conference teams. The Pistons currently top the standings, enjoying a comfortable lead over the New York Knicks.

Cunningham’s stellar stats this regular season

As the Pistons’ star continues to make headlines with his outstanding performance, his statistics are drawing attention within the Eastern Conference, providing insight into why the Pistons have enjoyed such a successful start to the season.

Leading the league in games played so far (11), Cunningham has averaged 27.5 points per game, along with 9.9 assists in 37 minutes of playing time per game. On Monday night, Cunningham played 45 minutes, nearly scoring one point for every minute he was on the court.

Other key contributors to the Pistons’ strong start

Undeniably, Cunningham is spearheading the team in nearly every statistical category. Yet, the cohesion within the Pistons is fueled by the consistent performance of their starting lineup. Alongside Jalen Duren, Ron Holland, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green, Cunningham and the Pistons are enjoying an excellent start this season.

Significantly, Duren has been contributing 19 points per game, ranking second-highest on the team, while also securing 12 rebounds per matchup. Given these dynamics, the fan base holds high expectations for a team that is catching everyone off guard in the NBA.

Despite the Los Angeles Lakers’ loss in the NBA season opener, Luka Doncic joined Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in achieving an exclusive franchise record.
The Los Angeles Lakers opened the NBA regular season on the wrong foot, falling 119–109 to the Golden State Warriors in their season opener. With LeBron James sidelined due to injury, Luka Doncic took center stage for the Lakers. Despite being unable to lead his team to victory, the Slovenian star joined Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in an exclusive franchise record.

Doncic was unstoppable in the loss, finishing with 43 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. According to the NBA, he became the first Laker since Elgin Baylor (1959) and Kobe Bryant (2007) to score 40 or more points in a season opener.

That wasn’t the only milestone for Doncic. As noted by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, he also joined Shaquille O’Neal as just the second Laker to record at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a season opener.

Doncic’s night went beyond Lakers history. With his 40-point, 10-rebound, and five-assist performance, Real Sports reported that Doncic matched a mark previously achieved only by Michael Jordan in the 1989 season opener, when Jordan scored 54 points in a Chicago Bulls win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Luka Doncic during the NBA season opener vs the Warriors.
Doncic on his improvements

When Doncic arrived in Los Angeles, questions arose about his defensive effort and physical condition. But after a focused preseason, the 26-year-old appears to have improved those qualities — and it’s already showing in games.

“I think I’m getting better on the defensive end,” Doncic said during his postgame press conference, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I’m just trying to get more involved, more communication [with my teammates]. But overall, 41 minutes — I like that”.

The Lakers star also eased any concerns after spending extra time in the training room following the game to receive treatment on his right hip. “It’s probably nothing,” Doncic explained. “I just felt it a little bit because my hip went the opposite way. Felt it a little bit, but it’s probably nothing”.

The Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum named the greatest NBA player of all time and revealed who his favorite player was.
The Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who ended last season recovering from a serious injury, is widely regarded as one of the next faces of the NBA. He also has clear inspirations within the league and recently revealed his picks for both the greatest player of all time and his personal favorite.

Tatum’s admiration for Kobe Bryant is well known, but he doesn’t consider the Los Angeles Lakers icon the GOAT. When asked by ESPN to name the NBA’s greatest ever, Tatum chose Michael Jordan, while emphasizing that Bryant remains his favorite player.

“I think Michael Jordan is the best player of all time,” Tatum said. “But my favorite player is Kobe Bryant.” When asked why Bryant is his favorite, Tatum explained there were countless reasons.

“The biggest inspiration for me in my basketball career when I was a kid,” Tatum stated. “There’s a reason why I fell in love with the game. Somebody inspired me to chase my dreams and be the best I could be from thousands of miles away.”

Tatum’s tribute to Kobe

Tatum famously wore a Bryant armband during Game 7 of the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. He led the Celtics to a 100-96 victory and revealed after the game that he had sent a “I got you today” text to Bryant’s former number before the do-or-die matchup.

Tatum recorded 26 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, one steal, and two blocks that night. The performance helped the Celtics advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in his career, though they eventually lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games. They returned to the Finals in 2024 to face the Dallas Mavericks.

Kobe and Jordan, two of the all-time greats

Bryant captured five NBA titles, two Finals MVPs, one regular-season MVP, and two scoring titles. He also earned 18 All-Star nods, 15 All-NBA selections, and 12 All-Defensive team honors. While impressive, it doesn’t quite match the resume of the man Tatum named as the greatest.

Jordan won six championships, six Finals MVPs, five regular-season MVPs, one Defensive Player of the Year award, and 10 scoring titles.
Hall of Famer Dwight Howard commented on the real difference between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as teammates in the NBA.
One of the biggest dreams for any NBA player is getting the chance to play alongside the greatest in league history. Dwight Howard had that opportunity, sharing the court with both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Comparisons between the two legends are inevitable, but Howard chose to focus on something else entirely.

Appearing on the “Club 520 Podcast,” Howard opened up about what truly set them apart. He said: “Kobe’s an a****le. Not saying he’s an a****le to me — I’m just saying his personality, he’s an a****le. He doesn’t give a f***k. Bron gives a f**k. He wants everybody to like him. He wants to joke around, laugh, and have a good time. I just think they’re two ends of the spectrum.”

Howard’s comments speak to the stark contrast in their leadership styles. Bryant was famously intense and direct, demanding the best from those around him, while James is known for being approachable, collaborative, and team-oriented.

Howard picks between Kobe and LeBron

When pressed to choose who he believes is the better player, Howard admitted it was a difficult decision but gave a measured response. “Scoring-wise, you’ve got to go with Kobe,” he said. “With everything combined, you’ve got to give it to LeBron.”

Dwight Howard explains the difference between Kobe and LeBron:

“Kobe an a**hole… he don’t give a f***.
Howard’s answer adds yet another voice to a debate that has divided fans for years. Although his choice doesn’t end the discussion, it carries weight considering he shared locker rooms with both players during his career.

Why the comparison might be unfair

Bryant’s relentless obsession with perfecting his craft made him one of the most feared competitors in NBA history. His work ethic inspired an entire generation of players. James, meanwhile, has relied on a mix of natural gifts, basketball IQ, and consistency to maintain dominance deep into his career.

A direct comparison between their careers might never fully capture their greatness. Bryant’s five championships give him a slight edge in rings, while James’ four Finals MVP awards — double Bryant’s total — highlight his consistent impact on the game’s biggest stage.

At the end of the day, both legends represent two distinct paths to greatness. Whether fans lean toward Bryant’s ruthless mentality or James’ all-around brilliance, Howard’s insight only deepens the appreciation for what both players have meant to the NBA.
