Week 5 started on the wrong foot for the Rams. Even though they were regarded as favorites against the San Francisco 49ers, the visitors took home the win in overtime with a final score of 23-20.

The game could have ended differently, though. With just a minute left on the clock, Kyren Williams had a chance to score, but he fumbled at the one-yard line and couldn’t deliver the victory his team expected.

Kyren Williams gets real on his unfortunate mistakes vs. 49ers

While the Rams were favored against the 49ers in Week 5, fate had other plans. Los Angeles was unable to capitalize on home-field advantage and secure the win at SoFi Stadium.

In the final minutes of regulation, the Rams entered the 49ers’ red zone with a clear chance to score a touchdown. However, Kyren Williams fumbled at the one-yard line, sending the game into overtime.

In extra time, with the score tied 20-20, the Rams once again had the ball deep in 49ers territory. On a crucial 4th-and-1 play, Williams failed to pick up the necessary yard for a first down, sealing the victory for San Francisco.

Williams admitted his performance was far from his best, particularly with the fumble and the failed conversion. However, the running back promised that such mistakes won’t happen again.

“S—t sucks,” Kyren Williams said. “I don’t know. For me, I just got to hold onto the ball. I feel like I let the team down at the 1-yard line, not securing the one thing that matters and scoring the touchdown. So, for me, I put this all on me, honestly, and just knowing that I got to be better.”

Week 10: A shot at redemption

The Rams will have a chance to avenge their loss in Week 10, when they visit Levi’s Stadium for their second clash of the season against their NFC West rivals.

Kyren Williams has surely circled that game on his calendar as an opportunity for redemption. However, with the 49ers expected to recover several key starters by then, the challenge could be even tougher for Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Rams have one of the most intriguing offenses in the NFL. They have the talent, Matthew Stafford is the quarterback, and Sean McVay is the head coach and playcaller. So far, so good. However, there is one guy on the roster who is taking leaps and bounds to become even better.

Kyren Williams emerged as a top-tier running back in the league last season. He put up a career-high 1,299 rushing yards. He also got 14 touchdowns to put the cherry on top. However, according to RB coach Ron Gould, the Rams running back is just getting started.

Talking to the official website, Gould said Williams has shown more explosiveness now. “The first thing that stood out to us was his explosiveness,” Gould said. “One of the things was just his ability to stay grounded through some of his runs that was really, really evident in the work that he’s put in, so really, really pleased with that.”

If there was something missing for Williams, is explosiveness

You can’t find many holes in Williams’ game. However, if you could nitpick, his yards per carry could be better. He had 4.1 yards per rushing attempt last season, which ranked 30th among NFL running backs. In fact, he just produced two rushed over 20 yards last season. He was a volume back, instead of an explosive one.

Kyren Williams has also emerged as a leader in the locker room, according to Gould. If Williams ends up evolving to a back who can also explode on long runs, this offense will take another leap. Sean McVay will prioritize designing runs for Williams and letting Stafford pick teams apart on play-action formations.

The Rams offense is stacked

Stafford is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. That’s a good start. Williams leads the backfield, and the team has Puka Nacua as their best wide receiver. However, the Rams also landed none other than Davante Adams, one of the best wideouts in the last decade.

Adams will run crispy routes, will catch pretty much every pass thrown at him and will give the offense another dimension. When you look at this unit, only injuries could get in its way. The Rams are looking to be a protagonist in the NFC, and the sights are on the Super Bowl.

The Los Angeles Rams have shown significant improvement in the first six weeks of the season compared to the previous year, achieving a 3-3 record despite facing formidable opponents. Nevertheless, injuries have taken a toll on their offense, with star receiver Cooper Kupp sidelined for the first four games and another key contributor lost due to injury.

Los Angeles confirmed that they placed Kyren Williams on injured reserve following an ankle injury he sustained against the Arizona Cardinals. The running back is expected to miss at least four games and will be eligible to make his return in week 12, coincidentally against the Cardinals.

Adding to their running back woes, the Rams also had to send backup running back Ronnie Rivers to injured reserve after he injured his knee in the same game. To address the absence of Williams and Rivers, the Rams took a series of measures as they signed a couple of players to add depth.

Kyren Williams’ Substitutes

The Rams made significant changes to bolster their running back lineup first elevating Royce Freeman to the active roster. Then they inked a deal with a player the team knows well like Darrell Henderson Jr., who secured his place on the practice squad.

Additionally, the Rams acquired running back Myles Gaskin from the Minnesota Vikings‘ practice squad and added him to their active roster. In their roster, they also have rookie sixth-rounder Zach Evans. However, replacing Williams won’t be a simple task, as he has been exceptionally effective.

The young second-year running back leads the Rams with impressive statistics, including 97 carries for 456 yards and six touchdowns. He has also proven his versatility with 13 receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Entering Week 7, Williams’ rushing yards rank fourth and he was tied for the third-most rushing touchdowns.

Which games will Williams be unable to play?

Williams is set to miss at least four games on IR, but the Rams have their bye during this period in week 10. LA are scheduled to confront Pittsburgh Steelers in week 7, Dallas Cowboys in week 8, Green Bay Packers in week 9, before Seattle Seahawks in week 11.
