The LSU Tigers hired Lane Kiffin as their new head coach. Now that his salary is revealed, how much will he make compared to North Carolina's Bill Belichick?
Lane Kiffin will represent the LSU Tigers as their new head coach. Now, the salary he will earn after leaving Ole Miss was revealed and there are questions about how his new deal compares to North Carolina‘s Bill Belichick.

Wilson Alexander fof NOLA.com reported that Lane Kiffin will earn $13 million per year at LSU. As for Belichick, CBS News reported he earns $10 million per season in a five-year contract with the first three years being fully guaranteed.

It’s stated that Kiffin signed a seven-year deal, making it a far more lucrative deal than what Belichick has. Also, the size of the programs are very different, but so are the expectations.

LSU will hope Kiffin’s start to his era is better than Belichick’s at UNC

Belichick’s first year at Chapel Hill ended with a 4-8 record and an ACC record of 2-6. The team ended with a three-game losing streak, two of them being by more than two possessions.

Head Coach Bill Belichick of the North Carolina Tar Heels

Ole Miss, during Lane Kiffin’s last year, ended 11-1 and ended the season with a five-game winning streak. Hence, LSU is hoping that’s the coach the Tigers have, not one than has a losing record.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/will-lane-kiffin-coach-ole-miss-in-2025-college-football-playoffs-after-taking-lsu-job" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20251130_BUS_536859_lane-kiffin-1.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="The saga has come to an end: Lane Kiffin officially leaves the Ole Miss Rebels to become the new head coach of the LSU Tigers.

Lane Kiffin has a very different coaching profile than Belichick

The fact of the matter is that Kiffin and Belichick couldn’t have more different coaching styles. While Belichick is regarded as the best NFL coach of all time, he went on a hiatus to then be appointed as head coach for the Tar Heels.

As for Kiffin, he does have NFL experience as he was a head coach for the Oakland Raiders for two years, but he has plenty of college experience and he is an offensive-minded coach, as opposed to Belichick’s defensive approach.

Lane Kiffin is the new LSU Tigers head coach after leaving Ole Miss. How much money will he make in his new job?
Lane Kiffin is no longer the Ole Miss head coach but he has found a new home as he is set to become the new LSU Tigers head coach. What’s the contract he will get now that he is in a new place?

According to Mark Schlabach and Pete Thamel of ESPN.com, LSU would pay Kiffin around $12 million per year across seven seasons. This deal would have the potential of added bonuses, making Kiffin one of the highest-paid coaches in the nation.

After much controversy, Lane Kiffin decided to accept LSU’s offer. While Ole Miss is a good program, LSU is a great one. Kiffin won’t be greatly remembered at Ole Miss since he is leaving for an SEC rival, though.

How did Kiffin do in six seasons at Ole Miss?

After getting signed by the Rebels in 2020, Kiffin had six seasons, five of them where over .500 and one was 5-5. He has a 3-2 record on Bowls with Ole Miss. This season, Ole Miss ended with an 11-1 record.

Lane Kiffin

Kiffin is highly regarded by his innovation and smart level of coaching. He is a very good offensive mind and turned Ole Miss into a national heavyweight. Now, his mission is simple: turn LSU into a natty contender once again.

LSU hasn’t been relevant since Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson made history at LSU by destroying every single program they faced. However, that was in 2019. After that, they spent two years at .500 or worse. In 2022, the Tigers had a 10-4 record but Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama were better than them.

Kiffin actually beat LSU in the SEC standings in 2023 as the Tigers ended fifth in the SEC. Last year, LSU finished seventh in the SEC, so desperate times call for desperate measures and Kiffin will now be tasked to make the Tigers a perennial contender once again.

The LSU Tigers face the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 14 of the College Football season, but is quarterback Garrett Nussmeier playing?
LSU‘s season is not one to remember. However, the Tigers are now facing the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 14. The great question is if quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will be playing.

As Pete Nakos of On3 reported, Nussmeier won’t be playing as he is still dealing with an injury. This will be the third week that Nussmeier misses a game after suffering an abdominal strain.

Nussmeier has completed a 67.4% for 1,972 yards and 12 touchdowns to five interceptions. LSU lost four of its last five games with Nussmeier under center, and also scored 25 or less points in each of Nussmeier’s last five games.

It’s Michael Van Buren Jr. time once again

Van Buren has played in five games this season, completing 64% of his passes for 647 yards, throwing four touchdowns and one interception in the process. In those five games, he has a 3-2 record.

Michael van Buren Jr. #11 of the LSU Tigers

Oklahoma has a 9-2 record, it’s a very good team and always a big program to face. The Sooners have a very good 827-yard receiver in Isaiah Sategnaand a prolific defense. While Oklahoma hasn’t scored much, the Sooners have the sixth-best defense in the whole nation.

The Sooners are fighting for seeding

If Ole Miss misses a step and Oklahoma wins, they could be getting better seeding for the CFB Playoff. However, LSU and Oklahoma are not precisely friendly towards each other, so LSU will definitely trying to ruin the Sooners’ options to go to the playoff.

Still, the urgency resides in Oklahoma’s side. And also, well the starting quarterback is out fo the Tigers, so it’s a tough scenario for LSU. Oklahoma will go all in to win this game, while LSU has not much to play for.

Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU Tigers host Western Kentucky in Baton Rouge as they look to secure their seventh win of the season.
The College Football regular season is slowly entering its decisive stretch, making every win crucial for programs with hopes of becoming bowl eligible or sneaking into the coveted CFP. Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU Tigers host Western Kentucky as they look to notch their seventh victory of the campaign.

Unfortunately for LSU, it’s been confirmed that their biggest star won’t be available, as he’s still recovering from a lingering abdominal injury. Interim head coach Frank Wilson announced that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been ruled out for Saturday’s game.

“He will not participate,” Wilson said after practice on Thursday. “Garrett is a no-go; he will be out for the game.” The HC also added: “There is certainly a want. He wants to play, but he’s not able to at the moment.”

Following Brian Kelly’s dismissal from the program, Frank Wilson has taken the reins, and his decision to bench Nussmeier stands as one of the most significant moves so far. Michael Van Buren is expected to get the start for the Tigers.

Garrett Nussmeier #18 of the LSU Tigers.

What injury does Garrett Nussmeier have?

Tigers fans held their collective breath this week as news broke that quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will miss the upcoming tilt against Western Kentucky. The talented signal-caller, who was primed for significant action in the contest, has been sidelined with an lower-body injury sustained during a recent practice session.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/lsu-receives-significant-injury-update-on-garrett-nussmeier-ahead-of-upcoming-games" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20251119_BUS_530347_garrett-nussmeier-3.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="Following their victory over the Razorbacks, Garrett Nussmeier’s LSU Tigers will host Western Kentucky next Saturday in Baton Rouge.

While the severity of the ailment remains unclear, sources close to the program confirm that the team’s medical staff elected to hold him out as a precautionary measure. This unexpected absence shifts the immediate focus to the depth chart, putting pressure on the remaining quarterback corps to execute the game plan and secure a crucial victory on Saturday.

The availability of Whit Weeks

The good news for LSU is that Whit Weeks, who had been listed as questionable for this crucial matchup, now has a strong chance of playing. “He’s had a good week at practice,” Wilson said. “He’s shown tremendous progress. He’s talking and feeling the right way. Right now, I would say he’s probable. He feels better.”

Following their victory over the Razorbacks, Garrett Nussmeier’s LSU Tigers will host Western Kentucky next Saturday in Baton Rouge.
With only two weeks left in the College Football regular season, it’s been a campaign that has fallen well short of expectations for the LSU Tigers. Their latest win over Arkansas pushed Garrett Nussmeier’s squad to 6–4, as they look to improve that mark next Saturday against Western Kentucky.

With Brian Kelly no longer at the helm, interim head coach Frank Wilson revealed that Nussmeier will likely remain sidelined and unable to rejoin his teammates due to the abdominal injury that kept him out of the game against the Razorbacks.

The news was reported by College Football insider Pete Nakos, who shared the update on his official X account (formerly Twitter), marking a significant development for the Tigers ahead of this crucial matchup.

“LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier is doubtful this week against Western Kentucky, per interim coach Frank Wilson. Source tells @On3sports he’s currently not expected to play and did not practice Tuesday. Michael Van Buren is in line to get the start,” the insider reported via @PeteNakos.

How much do the Tigers stand to lose without Nussmeier on the field?

Garrett Nussmeier’s presence in the LSU Tigers’ offense, even while battling an abdominal injury for most of the season, has been defined by his courageous effort and commitment to the team.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/lsu-enters-a-legal-battle-with-brian-kelly-to-avoid-paying-full-54-million-buyout" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20251111_BUS_524413_brian-kelly-1.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="Brian Kelly’s disappointing season leading the first LSU Tigers squad led the program to part ways with him.

Although he entered the year with significant expectations, the nagging issue has severely limited his mobility, a factor which became particularly problematic when operating behind an inconsistent offensive line.

Despite these physical setbacks, Nussmeier played through the pain for several weeks, throwing for 1,927 yards and 12 touchdowns against five interceptions through his appearances. His dedication, especially being seen encouraging his teammates from the sideline after being sidelined for the Arkansas game, was described by interim coach Frank Wilson as “monumental” for the team’s morale and mindset.

What’s next for the Tigers?

The LSU Tigers conclude their regular season with two crucial matchups that present distinct challenges. First, they return home to face Western Kentucky, a game LSU must win decisively to secure Bowl eligibility and build confidence.

Following that, the Tigers hit the road for a challenging season finale against the Oklahoma Sooners. This away game is a significant test for the entire program, requiring the team to perform at its highest level to overcome a tough opponent and gain momentum heading into the offseason.

It was a tough blow for the Clemson Tigers to start the season. After a home loss to LSU, head coach Dabo Swinney had to speak candidly after the defeat to try and calm the situation.
Dabo Swinney didn’t hold back following Clemson’s 17-10 season-opening loss to LSU at Memorial Stadium. “They all sting. I hate to lose, period,” the Tigers’ head coach said. “I don’t regret playing games like this. I love playing games like this. I really do.”

Swinney stressed that the matchup was a battle of equals. “It was a heavyweight fight as far as a football game,” he said. “It was two top 10 teams on the field tonight battling it out. It was tied in the fourth quarter.” But a handful of mistakes cost Clemson late.

“Give credit to LSU,” Swinney added. “They just made a couple more plays, and we made a couple more critical errors. In games like this, that’s what it’s going to come down to.” Despite the disappointment, he said his team will grow from the experience.

Clemson must regroup quickly

Swinney admitted frustrations with Clemson’s offense, particularly the ground game. “We didn’t get the run game going,” he said. The Tigers rushed 20 times for just 31 yards. “Plenty of opportunities, and we missed our opportunities. We didn’t run the ball effectively at all.”

Quarterback Cade Klubnik’s performance also drew Swinney’s attention. “Gotta be better. Just gotta be better,” he said of the junior signal-caller. “He’d be the first one to tell you that.” Still, he praised his players for battling to the end despite offensive struggles.

The coach also pointed to positives on defense, though penalties proved costly. “I really thought we did a lot of great things defensively. Just too many costly penalties. Those are plays that can haunt you.” Clemson now turns the page quickly, with its next game set for September 9 at home against Troy.

Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers are confident in what Garrett Nussmeier can bring to the field ahead of the upcoming NCAAF season.
A new NCAAF season is just around the corner, and with it, excitement is building at LSU Tigers’ facilities as the opening game approaches. Brian Kelly is confident in leading his team to a successful campaign, and for that, he will need his starting QB, Garrett Nussmeier, in top form for the season ahead.

Alarm bells went off days ago when news broke of Nussmeier’s knee injury, which sparked rumors of a serious setback. Fortunately for Tigers fans, the head coach quickly put those concerns to rest.

During a recent press conference, Kelly addressed the media, clarifying that while his starting signal-caller is dealing with an injury, it’s not as severe as had been rumored off the record.

“Just for the record, (Nussmeier) has tendinitis, patella tendinitis. He does not have a torn ACL. We have not amputated his leg,” he said. “He has a (pissed off) patella tendon. He was out there today throwing. Tomorrow, he’ll be back out, most likely in a practice situation. So, I thought we’d calm everybody down.

Head Coach Brian Kelly of the LSU Tigers on the sidelines in the second half during a game against the Arkansas Razorbacks at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on October 19, 2024 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Tigers defeated the Razorbacks 34-10.

“On the scale of 1 to 10, this is like a 1.5, on the scale of 1 to 10. And that’s just being honest with you so we get the right information out there, you know, regarding Nuss. It’s not a serious injury. And, it’s like guys dealing with tendinitis virtually every day, in life – take two Aspirins and I’ll call you in the morning, right? This is more precautionary.”

Clarifying the injury situation

True to his style, Brian Kelly was energetic when addressing the situation with his starting QB. The coach wasn’t immune to the swirling rumors about the severity of the injury, but he made it clear that Nussmeier only aggravated a pre-existing injury.

“I think it just planted, you know, the wrong way. And, when you have something that is, you know, a pre-existing condition, you can piss it off real easy and that’s kind of what happened,” Kelly explained.

“It’s not torn. There’s no fraying. There’s none of that. This is pre-existing. And, he probably just planted the wrong way. There’s nothing really to see on film with it. But, it’s pissed it off. Aggravated it, would be the better way to put it for me, if you guys articulate for me. He aggravated it a little bit, but he’s good to go.”

A chronic issue for the QB

Years ago, Nussmeier underwent surgery with the medical team, and his coach believes that many of these setbacks are, in part, a result of what he went through back in 2023.

“A lot of that is due to his 2023 Osgood-Schlatter surgery that he had when the tendon was irritated back then,” Kelly said. “This is just chronic. (Pissed it off) a little bit and we’ll calm it down. I mean, it’s tendinitis, you know. Tendinitis is managed every single day around the world for all kinds of, you know, different ailments.

With just days to go before the National Championship Game, LSU's experienced head coach Brian Kelly has made his pick between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
With only a few days remaining until the final game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish to determine the next NCAAF champion, many are starting to pick their favorites. In this case, LSU HC Brian Kelly has made his choice for the National Championship Game.

The current Tigers coach had a long tenure leading Notre Dame, and although he was unable to secure a championship, he left with great memories of his time with the Fighting Irish, making his choice an easy one.

“I’m happy for all those guys, I pull for them,” Kelly told CBS Sports. “A lot of the guys there that are on both sides of the ball, I recruited. Obviously I want to see those guys win it all, and I think they’re in a great position. Totally excited for those guys.”

Kelly’s departure from Notre Dame caused a lot of waves, not only because he left the program after so many years, but also because he stated that he wanted “to be in an environment where I have the resources to win a national championship.”

Head coach Brian Kelly of the LSU Tigers reacts against the Georgia Bulldogs during the first quarter in the SEC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 03, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Later on, the coach took the time to clarify his statements: “They’re selling it the way they want to sell it,” he told CBS Sports. “Why do you leave Notre Dame? You leave Notre Dame because you’re taking another challenge. I took Notre Dame to championships. It’s just the way you want to twist it: ‘You only leave Notre Dame to go win a championship.’ I wasn’t leaving Notre Dame because I couldn’t win a championship. You can win championships at Notre Dame, but I chose another path because I wanted a different challenge.“

Kelly’s departure from Notre Dame

At the end of 2021, Brian Kelly arrived at LSU after a long tenure with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Regarding this situation, the experienced coach stated that he gave everything for the program, despite not securing any titles.

“I felt like I did everything that I could at Notre Dame and they felt like they did everything they could do for me,” he said to the press. “I felt like we had both got to a point where this is what they could do, right? This is what I did. And we couldn’t get past that. OK? And so here we are.”

Ahead of the Alabama vs LSU showdown, legendary coach Nick Saban sent a clear message to both quarterbacks, Jalen Milroe and Garrett Nussmeier.
This weekend, the NCAAF brings us one of the most exciting matchups in a long time. The LSU Tigers will face off against Alabama in a game that will pit Garrett Nussmeier against Jalen Milroe. Legendary coach Nick Saban shared his thoughts on why both quarterbacks have yet to fully reach their potential.

While both teams boast an impressive record of six wins and two losses, today’s game could be pivotal for the playoff hopes of both the Tigers and Bama. Both squads have elite quarterbacks, but in recent performances, they’ve had to deal with issues throughout the games.

Nick Saban, perhaps one of the most authoritative voices to weigh in not only on the team’s collective performance but also on individual player showings, spoke ahead of this major matchup and made it clear what the main issue is for both quarterbacks.

“That’s the biggest problem with these guys,” Saban said on ESPN’s “College GameDay.” “They want to make plays. But they don’t need to be shooting guard mentality. They need point guard mentality. Have 13 assists in a game an no turnovers. That’s good quarterback play.”

QB Jalen Milroe ended a streak of four games with at least one interception in the Crimson Tide’s 34-0 win against Missouri. Meanwhile, Nussmeier has thrown multiple interceptions in three of his last four games. However, he also has five games with multiple touchdown passes and five games with at least 300 passing yards.

The goal of improving the record

Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana will be the main stage for one of the most exciting matchups of the day in the NCAAF. Brian Kelly’s Tigers will host none other than the Alabama Crimson Tide, as both teams look to improve their records to seven wins and two losses.

The hosts are coming off a tough loss to Texas A&M, falling 38-23, making a victory crucial at this stage of the season as both teams aim to finish the regular season strong.

Meanwhile, Kalen DeBoer’s team emerged victorious in their last outing, defeating Missouri 34-0 at home without any hesitation.
