After punching her ticket to the Miami Open quarterfinals, Aryna Sabalenka opened up about the way Coco Gauff took an advice from a tweet she saw prior to her quarterfinal game.
Aryna Sabalenka is moving on to the Miami Open quarterfinals, but the post-match buzz wasn’t just about her dominant play on the court. Following her latest victory, the World No. 2 was asked for her take on Coco Gauff’s recent admission that she used tactical advice from a fan’s tweet to help clinch her own quarterfinal berth.

When asked if she combs through social media for similar “scouting reports,” Sabalenka was candid about the double-edged sword of online feedback.

“Of course I see some of the things… but for some reason, I see more negative than positive about myself,” Sabalenka admitted.

However, the reigning Australian Open champion didn’t miss a beat when it came to the strategic implications of Gauff‘s “crowdsourced” tactics. If the two stars meet in a hypothetical final, Sabalenka knows exactly what to look for.

— Tiempo De Tenis (@Tiempodetenis1) March 23, 2026

“Well, if it helped her, it helped. We’re all different, right?” Sabalenka said with a grin. “Thanks for telling me… now I’m going to be ready for her coming to the net.”

A Sabalenka-Gauff finale?

The rivalry between Sabalenka and Gauff has quickly become one of the most compelling narratives on the WTA Tour. Sabalenka has previously dubbed the young American her toughest opponent, and fans are already eyeing a potential heavyweight title bout in Miami.

The path to that final, however, remains grueling:

The Quarterfinals: Sabalenka is set to face Hailey Baptiste on Wednesday.

The Semifinals: Awaiting the winner of that match is a looming showdown with powerhouse Elena Rybakina.

The Final: On the other side of the bracket, Coco Gauff must navigate her own path past Karolina Muchova to set the stage for a blockbuster rematch against the Belarusian.

If the seeds hold, Miami is on track for a dream final between two of the hardest hitters in the game.

Carlos Alcaraz sent shockwaves through the tennis world with an early exit at the Miami Open, but the young phenom found an immediate ally in Rafael Nadal, who staunchly defended his countryman following the upset.
The tennis world is buzzing with questions following Carlos Alcaraz‘s shocking Round of 32 exit at the Miami Open at the hands of Sebastian Korda. While the early departure raised eyebrows, Spanish legend Rafael Nadal was quick to jump to his countryman’s defense.

“He has seven Slams; he is No. 1 in the world… Is he going to win every match of the year? No, that’s not going to happen,“ Nadal told reporters. “We have to congratulate and thank Carlos for everything he is doing for the sport.”

From the opening serve, Alcaraz struggled to find his rhythm. The Spaniard looked uncharacteristically flat, recording just two aces and converting only 2-of-5 break point opportunities.

The defeat comes as a massive shift in momentum. Following a Round of 64 victory over Joao Fonseca—who famously claimed Alcaraz was a “tougher riddle” to crack than Jannik Sinner—many pundits picked Alcaraz as the heavy favorite to hoist the trophy in Miami.

THE MOMENT SEBASTIAN KORDA BEAT CARLOS ALCARAZ IN MIAMI

Biggest win of his life

At 25 years old… he’s had so many injuries, he hasn’t been allowed to fulfill his massive potential

He’s letting nothing hold him back

Unreal talent ready to thrive 🇺🇸🥹

pic.twitter.com/lx4fjJy4NM
— The Tennis Letter (@TheTennisLetter) March 22, 2026

Alcaraz’s internal frustration boils over

The most alarming moment of the match didn’t come from a Korda winner, but from Alcaraz’s own bench. During a particularly grueling stretch, Alcaraz turned to his coaching team with a rare admission of defeat: “I’m done. I can’t do this anymore. Today, I just can’t do it.”

The uncharacteristic lapse in mental fortitude suggests a level of burnout or physical fatigue that has analysts questioning his readiness for the grueling schedule ahead.

Alcaraz issues passionate defense of South American tour

Outside of his performance on the court, Alcaraz has become a vocal advocate for the preservation of the South American “Golden Swing.” Amid reports that the ATP may reduce the number of clay-court events in the region to lighten player workloads, the World No. 1 made his stance clear.

“Personally, I loved it there. It’s a beautiful tour, but it’s a tough one, very, very tough,” Alcaraz noted, citing the humidity and demanding travel. “But to the players who haven’t been there, I’d say you have to experience it at least once. It’s truly one of the best experiences I’ve had on tour.“

The 2026 Miami Open will be a sight to see, but unfortunately, all-time great Novak Djokovic won't be there.
Andy Slater of Fox Sports reported that Novak Djokovic will not play the 2026 Miami Open due to a right shoulder injury. The tournament will start on March 15th with the qualifiers, though the final draw starts on March 19th. However, despite having those days of rest, the Serbian won’t be able to recover.

Djokovic did play on Indian Wells and lost in the Round of 16 against Jack Draper in three sets. Djokovic won the first set, but then the British came back in full force to go through to the quarters.

Djokovic’s shoulder looked fine in that game, but the stamina didn’t. It’s also important to remember that Djokovic is 38 years old. His physical prime is long gone. So, when matches drag and long points are in order, that hampers the Serbian quite a lot. By missing Miami, he will be able to recover not only his shoulder, but physically too.

Djokovic’s history in the Miami Open

Djokovic is the most decorated tennis player of all time. The ATP’s greatest has, of course, incredible feats in the Miami Open. Djokovic has won a record-tying six Miami Open titles. He won the 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 editions. Hence, by missing this tournament, he won’t be able to surpass the legendary Andre Agassi.

An absolute SHOCKER in Miami 😳

Jakub Mensik (+350) takes down Novak Djokovic (-475) to win the Miami Open. WOW 🔥
pic.twitter.com/bYINcKLKIp
— Fanatics Sportsbook (@FanaticsBook) March 31, 2025

Djokovic also had the chance last year, where he was a finalist, but lost to Jakub Mensik in a double tie-break game, 6-7, 6-7. With Djokovic’s career winding down, it remains to be seen if he will be able to win a seventh Miami Open title.

Who are the biggest candidates to win the 2026 Miami Open?

Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will play, which means they are the two guys to beat in the tournament. They are undoubtedly the best two players in the world right now. Alcaraz suffered an upset straight-sets loss to Daniil Medvedev at the Indian Wells semifinals. Hence, he will come back with a vengeance.

However, this also puts Medvedev as one of the names to watch, since he is playing at a high level, and the hardcourt serves him best due to his unorthodox style. Alex Zverev is also playing. While the tournament will miss Djokovic, the field is stacked.

Emma Raducanu, former World No. 10, seems to have recovered her best tennis. After reaching the quarterfinals in the 2025 Miami Open, her best result since her title run in the 2021 US Open, the British star appears to be set to maintain her new coaching team for Wimbledon.

According to reports from tennis365.com, former tennis player and commentator Mark Petchey has received permission from Tennis Channel to work with Raducunu during the summer, meaning he can be full time with her at the Wimbledon Championships.

After struggling with injuries in 2023, Raducanu has slowly returned to the Top 100 and is getting better results. However, her Miami Open run was the first time she reached the quarter-finals in a WTA 1000, and it was the first tournament she won four matches in a row since the US Open in 2021.

After defeating Amanda Anisimova in the Round of 16, Raducanu credited her coaching team for helping feel relaxed ahead of the matches. Especially as she was coming from dealing with a stalker in Dubai, and then lost in the first round of Indian Wells.

“Since Indian Wells, I wasn’t necessarily feeling great about my tennis, about everything. But this week, I have some very good people around me that I trust, and so I have had fun off the court as well,” she told Sky Sport. “When I’m being really authentic, that’s when I’m playing my best.”

Raducanu appears to have found the right team

This year, Raducanu has already tried several coaches. She started the year with Nick Cavaday, who had to step aside due to health issues. Vlado Platenik worked with Raducanu for Indian Wells, but only worked together for two weeks. According to The Athletic, it was because she was feeling “stressed,” and didn’t have “chemistry” with him.

In Miami, Raducanu worked with Petchey, who has known her for many years, and Jane O’Donoghue, a long-term friend and former LTA coach, were in her box with her. However, they weren’t officially part of the coaching team.

However, they helped her find a lighter routine ahead of matches, incorporating games and other activities. According to The Athletic, neither Petchey and O’Donoghue will join her team full time, while Raducanu will also work with Colin Beecher, a British Tennis Center coach, while Cavaday remains in touch.

Novak Djokovic is set to play the 2025 Miami Open final against Czech rising star Jakub Mensik. However, the Serbian will take the court with a swollen right eye, sparking curiosity about what happened and concern for his well-being among fans on social media.

According to Argentinian journalist Danny Miche, Djokovic is suffering from conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the transparent membrane that lines the eyelid and eyeball. Ahead of the final, which was postponed due to rain, he was seen using eye drops.

Despite that, the 24-time Grand Slam champion also assisted Miami Open staff in drying the court after the storm. Djokovic is aiming for his 100th career title, which would bring him within three of Roger Federer’s 103 and nine of Jimmy Connors’ all-time record of 109.

His opponent, 19-year-old Mensik, has reached his first Masters 1000 final. Meanwhile, Djokovic is chasing his seventh Miami Open title, which would extend his record to 41 Masters 1000 titles.

Djokovic has also matched Federer’s record of 20 consecutive seasons reaching a tour-level final, further highlighting his longevity. The 37-year-old secured his place in the final by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals.

Mensik has impressed Djokovic

The 2025 Miami Open final is a battle between generations. Mensik earned his spot by defeating local favorite Taylor Fritz, marking his maiden Masters 1000 final. Djokovic has already praised the young Czech, calling him one of the players to watch.

This will be their second meeting, with Djokovic winning their first encounter in the 2024 Shanghai Masters quarterfinals in three sets. “It feels incredible. For me, it was a dream to play against him in Shanghai,” Mensik said ahead of the match.

“Now, it’s a bit different. I am a better player, and I’m going to enjoy it. It’s going to be really exciting. Let’s see what happens on Sunday,” he added. So, fans will now see if Djokovic’s experience will bring him the 100th title, or if the youngster is able to complete the upset.

This Sunday, Novak Djokovic will face Jakub Mensik in the final of the Miami Open Masters 1000. If he wins, it will mark his 100th title in his professional career.
On Friday afternoon, Novak Djokovic secured his spot in the final of the Miami Open after defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3. On Sunday, the Serbian star will face Jakub Mensik in the decisive match, which could see him capture his 100th career title.

“Ever since I won my 99th, which was the Olympic Games in Paris, I’ve been playing with the prospect of winning the special hundred titles,” Djokovic acknowledged in the press conference following his semifinal win over Dimitrov, as shared by the official ATP Tour website.

“I played finals of Shanghai. I was close there. Semi-finals of Australia. Then been trying to find that necessary and much-needed level of tennis that will put me in a position to fight for a trophy, a big trophy,” he added.

Indeed, this opportunity has been a long time coming. Novak moved closer to the 100-title milestone after a stellar 2023 season, in which he claimed seven new titles and came within two of the mark. However, in 2024, he was unable to win any ATP Tour titles and only celebrated a gold medal with Serbia at the Paris Olympic Games.

“That’s what I’ve been doing this week. I’ve been very happy with the way I prepared for the tournament, the way I’ve been playing. I haven’t dropped a set,” Djokovic said. “It’s a great opportunity. Let’s see what happens.”

A tough challenge ahead for Djokovic

To reach his 100th career title, Novak Djokovic will first need to defeat Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final on Sunday. The young Czech has been one of the surprises of the tournament, having made his way to the final at just 19 years old, defeating two top-10 players in Jack Draper and Taylor Fritz along the way.

Mensik made history at the Miami Masters 1000 by becoming the third-lowest-ranked player to reach the final, having entered the tournament ranked 54th. Now, he will have the chance to claim his first ATP Tour title.

After his semifinal victory over Fritz, Mensik made it clear that facing one of his idols, Novak Djokovic, is a huge opportunity for him. “It feels incredible. For me, it was a dream to play against him in Shanghai,” he said. However, he later acknowledged: “For now, it’s a bit different. I am a better player now and I’m going to enjoy it, and it’s going to be really exciting. Let’s see what’s going to happen Sunday.”

Novak Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov and advanced to the Miami Open final, surpassing a historic record previously held by Roger Federer.
On Friday, Novak Djokovic overcame Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals of the Miami Open, and will play for the title on Sunday against the winner of the match between Jakub Mensik and Taylor Fritz. In addition to securing this crucial victory, the Serbian star also claimed a historic milestone that was previously held by Roger Federer.

Djokovic became the oldest player in history to reach a Masters 1000 final. At 37 years and 10 months old, he surpassed the Swiss legend, who set the previous record in 2019 at 37 years and 7 months. Interestingly, both players achieved these milestones at the Miami Open.

It’s important to note, however, that Masters 1000 tournaments have been held since 1990, meaning that tennis legends from previous decades are not included in this statistic. Nevertheless, Djokovic and Federer clearly dominate this category, with the two sharing the top 10 spots for the oldest players to reach a Masters 1000 semifinal.

Now, Novak faces the challenge of becoming the oldest player to win a Masters 1000 title. In 2019, when Federer set his record by reaching the final of the Miami Open, he went on to defeat John Isner and set a new milestone.

Tennis legend Roger Federer.

Novak Djokovic’s 2025 season

Djokovic’s performance at the Miami Open has been his best of 2025 so far. He will play in his first final of the year, as his previous high had been reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open, where he lost to World No. 2 Alexander Zverev.

In his other tournaments this year, the Serbian star had struggled to compete at his highest level. In Brisbane, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Reilly Opelka, while in Doha and Indian Wells, he was eliminated early, losing to Matteo Berrettini and Botic van de Zandschulp, respectively.

Djokovic’s next big goal

After reaching the final of the Miami Open, Djokovic has several major objectives ahead, all focused on Sunday’s championship match. First and foremost, he will aim for his first title of 2025. This would allow him to surpass Roger Federer’s record and become the oldest player to win a Masters 1000 event.

But that’s not all. Should he defeat the winner of the match between Jakub Mensik and Taylor Fritz, Djokovic will achieve a feat accomplished by only two players in ATP Tour history: winning 100 titles. Currently, Novak has 99 titles and is just one step away from joining Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) in the elite club.

Alexander Zverev was eliminated from the Miami Masters 1000 after falling in the round of 16 to Arthur Fils, and after the match, he reflected on his struggles.
The Miami Masters 1000 presented a great opportunity for Alexander Zverev to regain his top form and put behind his recent disappointments in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Acapulco, and Indian Wells. However, the current World No. 2 once again failed to find his best version, losing in the round of 16 to Arthur Fils, which prompted a candid reflection from the German star.

“I have been losing a lot of matches that I feel like I couldn’t control lately,” Zverev admitted after the match, according to the official website of the ATP Tour. “It was similar again today. So I have to look at myself more than anything else.”

Regarding his performance in the 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to Fils, the Alexander stated he was reasonably satisfied. “I think I definitely played better here than I did the last few weeks,” he said. However, he immediately admitted that it wasn’t enough: “I’m up a break in the third, there is no reason for me to lose this match.”

Finally, the German star reflected on his recent performances in the tournaments he has competed in. “I go on to lose four games in a row. In Indian Wells I’m serving for the match, and in Rio I’m up 4-1 in the third. In Buenos Aires I was up a set and a break. I’m just losing a lot of matches from a winning position right now,” he analyzed. “I need to change that.”

Zverev’s 2025 so far

Alexander Zverev is still searching for his first title of the year. Interestingly, his best performance so far came in the toughest and most prestigious tournament he has faced: the Australian Open. There, he reached the final but lost to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

Since then, Zverev’s results have been disappointing. He fell in the quarterfinals of the Argentina Open to local player Francisco Cerundolo. Another Argentine, Francisco Comesaña, eliminated him in the quarterfinals of the Rio Open a week later, while Learner Tien defeated him in the round of 16 at the Mexican Open. His most alarming result prior to Miami came in Indian Wells, where he lost in his debut to Tallon Griekspoor.

What’s next for Zverev?

With Jannik Sinner suspended for doping until early May, Zverev’s chances of closing the gap to the World No. 1 are becoming slimmer. His upcoming challenges will be on European clay courts, starting with the Monte Carlo Masters, which begins on April 7. He will then compete in the ATP 500 event in Munich, followed by the Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome before Roland Garros.

No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev was eliminated by Arthur Fils in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Miami Open. Here's how the ranking stand after that loss.
The 2025 Miami Open is reaching its decisive stages, but several top players have already bowed out in the early rounds. Top seed Alexander Zverev, who had a chance to close the gap on Jannik Sinner in the rankings, was eliminated by France’s Arthur Fils in the Round of 16.

This exit leaves the Italian, who is serving a three-month suspension, comfortably at No. 1 in the rankings. In fact, despite not playing and losing 1,500 points since the end of the Australian Open, Sinner still holds a 2,685-point lead over Zverev.

Meanwhile, the German loses 300 points this week, while Carlos Alcaraz, who was knocked out in the second round by David Goffin, drops 190 points but remains in third place. Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic continue to gain points as they are still in the tournament, with the Serbian set to face Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals.

The player dropping out of the Top 10 is Daniil Medvedev, who lost in the second round to Spain’s Jaume Munar. The Russian dropped 390 points this week. Additionally, Stefanos Tsitsipas moves up one spot, while Alex de Minaur returns to the Top 10 after briefly falling to No. 11 following Indian Wells.

When is Jannik Sinner set to come back to the tour?

Sinner agreed to his suspension last month as part of a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency. WADA had appealed last year’s decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, which had fully cleared Sinner, ruling that his case involved accidental contamination.

His suspension runs until May 4, after which he plans to compete in the Italian Open (May 7-18), Hamburg (May 17-24), the French Open (May 25-June 8), Halle (June 16-22), and Wimbledon (June 30-July 13).
