Boston Red Sox’s Willson Contreras issued a sharp warning to the Milwaukee Brewers after a heated clash, with his brother William stepping in as tensions boiled over.
The Boston Red Sox–Milwaukee Brewers rivalry took a personal turn when Willson Contreras found himself at the center of another heated moment, this time with his own brother involved. After being hit by a pitch from Brandon Woodruff, tensions quickly escalated, forcing William Contreras to step in and separate the situation behind the plate.

“They always say ‘I’m not trying to hit you.’ That gets old… next time they hit me again, I’m going to take one of them out. That’s the message,” Contreras said, via MassLive, making his frustration unmistakably clear.

The incident marked the 24th time Contreras has been hit by a Brewers pitcher, and the sixth by Woodruff alone, adding fuel to a long-standing pattern that has defined this matchup. What made this moment different, however, was the presence of his brother, caught between protecting his pitcher and managing a situation involving family.

A rivalry that turned personal

The tension erupted in the third inning when Woodruff struck Contreras on the hand, prompting immediate words between the two players. As the situation escalated, William Contreras, serving as Milwaukee’s catcher, stepped in to defuse the confrontation, placing him in the unusual position of separating his own brother during a heated exchange.

Willson Contreras on getting HBP for a 6th time by Brandon Woodruff:

"They always say, ‘I’m not trying to hit you.’ That gets old.

The moment underscored how deep the rivalry has become. Later in the game, Contreras’ aggressive baserunning, including a hard slide into second base, kept tensions alive and drew further attention from the Brewers’ dugout.

The confrontation added another layer of tension to Boston’s rough start to the season, even as Roman Anthony said no need to panic over Red Sox slow start, insisting the group will settle in despite the early frustrations.

Why this rivalry won’t cool down

Contreras made it clear that his reaction wasn’t about a single pitch, but a pattern he believes has gone too far. “It’s the 24th time… they’re going there with a purpose,” he said, doubling down on his stance and signaling that future incidents could escalate even further.

With emotions running high and both teams likely to meet again, this latest chapter adds a new dimension to the rivalry, one where competition and family briefly collided, and where the next encounter could carry even greater stake

Now the Milwaukee Brewers face a significant early-season challenge with Andrew Vaughn set to undergo surgery and miss several weeks, though they do have personnel available to cover first base.
Andrew Vaughn will require surgery that will sideline him from first base for the Milwaukee Brewers for more than a month, opening the door for Jake Bauers, next on the depth chart, to step into one of the team’s key positions as the season gets underway.

One of the first reports came from Adam McCalvy on X: “Bad news on Andrew Vaughn: He fractured his left hamate on Opening Day and will need surgery. Expected recovery is 4-6 weeks,” a post that quickly drew concern from fans.

Vaughn was coming off a shortened 2025 season, playing 112 games overall, splitting time between the Chicago White Sox and the Brewers, where he appeared in 64 games. He was expected to take over first base in 2026 after finishing last year with a .254 average.

Does Bauers have what it takes at first base?

It appears he does, and Vaughn himself backed Bauers as the right option to handle the position while he recovers from hand surgery. Bauers opened the season strong, posting a .400 average with two hits, one home run, and three RBIs.

It wasn’t until the next day that Andrew Vaughn realized the severity of his hand injury.
“It wasn’t until the next day that Andrew Vaughn realized the severity of his hand injury. He says the Brewers are in good hands with ‘Rake’ Bauers at first base,” McCalvy wrote, relaying Vaughn’s confidence in his teammate.

If Bauers is unable to hold down the position, the Brewers still have options on the depth chart. Gary Sanchez provides flexibility, capable of stepping in not only as a catcher but also as a potential backup at first base if needed.

As the 2026 MLB Opening Day arrived, Jacob Misiorowski broke a record for the Milwaukee Brewers franchise set before he was even born.
The Milwaukee Brewers had a bad start, but then saw a record broken and it was all thanks to pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. The opening pitcher served a leadoff home run but then, he started to ball out at a literally record-setting level.

After the home run, Misiorowski proceeded to strike out the next three batters in the first inning. By the end of the fifth, Misiorowski had 11 Ks, which is the new Brewers franchise record for an Opening Day performance.

Even more poetic, the record was set by Ben Sheets the day before Misiorowski came to the Earth in 2002. The record was nearly broken, but only tied by now Mets ace Freddy Peralta in 2024 and 2025.

Misiorowski is really trusted by the Brewers

Letting Peralta go is a massive blow to any team, but the Brewers promoted Misiorowski to the top starter role and, judging by the 2026 MLB Opening Day performance, ‘Miz’ is ready to step in as the Brewers ace.

The Brewers annihilated the Chicago White Sox while Misiorowski was on the mound. Misiorowski threw five innings. At that point, the Brewers were winning 8-1 against the White Sox. Offensively, Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick hit home runs too.

The Brewers have high expectations for 2026

The Brewers are considered a very good, upper echelon team in the MLB. If Misiorowski turns into a reliable ace, this enhance the expectations even further. They won a franchise-record 97 games in 2025, and while the roster changed quite a bit, they’re expected to remain highly competitive.

In a high-profile exhibition game leading up to the World Baseball Classic, Team Great Britain faced off against the Milwaukee Brewers. The matchup drew considerable attention, but it was Brewers' manager Pat Murphy who left the field visibly displeased.
Preparations are underway for the teams participating in the World Baseball Classic, beginning with friendly matchups this Tuesday. Among these was a notable game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Great Britain. Despite high expectations from their fan base concerning upcoming performances, Brewers manager Pat Murphy issued a candid evaluation of his team’s display.

“If today had been a regular-season game, you’d have to label this performance as subpar,” Murphy expressed to the media following the Brewers’ 7-3 loss to Great Britain, a participant in the upcoming WBC.

Murphy conveyed concern over the Brewers’ preparedness for the forthcoming season, noting that the team’s execution left much to be desired. He emphasized the need for improvement as it gears up for the regular season’s challenges.

“Today’s effort and execution were below expectations, both offensively and defensively. However, we’re committed to rectifying this and returning to our brand of baseball. While it’s difficult to replicate during these games, the effort must be made,” Murphy stated.

Murphy’s assessment of Great Britain’s performance

Great Britain, preparing for its WBC appearance, caught Murphy’s attention with their performance. He offered commendations on its play against the Brewers on Tuesday.

“They played excellently, maintaining solid contact and teamwork throughout. It’s evident they’re building something special. Credit goes to them for preparing effectively. It was impressive to watch,“ Murphy remarked.

With significant challenges looming, Murphy acknowledges the necessity of refining both the roster and their style of play to secure a competitive edge by Opening Day.

A former New York Mets prospect is drawing attention after receiving a bold prediction from a Milwaukee Brewers legend, setting the stage for an intriguing storyline as the 2026 season approaches.
The Milwaukee Brewers have made several high-profile trades this offseason, including sending ace Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets in exchange for a package of young talent that included infielder Jett Williams. With Caleb Durbin also traded away, the Brewers face a key question: who will take over at third base in 2026?

Williams, a former Mets prospect, now finds himself in Milwaukee with an opportunity to prove his worth. The team’s infield depth is in flux, and the Brewers appear ready to explore internal options before seeking external solutions.

Former Brewers pitcher Corey Knebel has offered a bold prediction regarding Williams’s potential role. “Looking at Jett’s perspective here, he sees this as an opportunity to go out and prove himself,” Knebel said.

He also added, “Maybe Matt Arnold is seeing something there and [Pat] Murphy has seen it too. They’re not going to just sit there, ‘poor me’, right? It’s ‘let’s go find a third baseman. Let’s see who we’ve got internally, see what we can do.’ If not, Matt Arnold may have something else up his sleeve.”

Corey Knebel #46 of the Brewers throws a pitch on October 20, 2018. Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images

Knebel sees real opportunity for Williams

Knebel emphasized that Milwaukee’s current situation is ripe for a young player like Williams to stake a claim. The Brewers’ coaching staff appears open to giving him a chance, and Knebel believes that Williams has the skills and mindset to compete for a starting role at third base out of Spring Training.

Brewers confident in internal depth

The team’s approach highlights the confidence Milwaukee has in its internal options. If Williams can make an early impression, he could become a key contributor at third base. Otherwise, other internal or external solutions — including David Hamilton or potential trades — remain on the table.

The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly bolstering their roster for next season with the addition of a player who formerly suited up for both the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.
Major League Baseball’s spring training camps are on the horizon, and the Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly making strategic roster moves to bolster their lineup. In a notable acquisition, the franchise has added a seasoned player with experience from both the New York Mets and New York Yankees for the upcoming season.

As reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, catcher Gary Sanchez has inked a deal with the Brewers worth $1.5 million. Sanchez spent seven seasons with the Yankees and made a brief appearance with the Mets before being traded to the San Diego Padres for the latter part of the past season.

Sánchez is known for his impressive stint with the Yankees, marked by two All-Star appearances and a Silver Slugger award. He was also a leading candidate for the Rookie of the Year award in 2016, underlining his impactful introduction to the majors.

With this acquisition, the Brewers are heading into spring training with anticipation, eager to see what Sanchez can bring to the table as they aim to recover from last season’s setback. After falling short in the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, their eyes are set on a World Series berth.

Gary Sanchez #99 of the Baltimore Orioles runs the bases.

Sanchez’s career stats

Gary Sanchez has evolved from a promising young talent into a reliable veteran power hitter. His career stats depict an intriguing profile, underscoring his tenure across six different franchises, including the Mets, over 11 seasons:

With these statistics and his experience with prestigious teams like the Yankees and Mets, Sanchez is poised to play a crucial role in the Brewers’ pursuit of a championship this season.
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold addressed Milwaukee’s infield depth after trading Caleb Durbin to the Boston Red Sox.
The Milwaukee Brewers made waves this week by moving a familiar name out of their infield picture, sending Caleb Durbin to the Boston Red Sox in a multi-player deal. The decision quickly sparked debate about direction, timing, and how aggressive the club truly plans to be moving forward.

For a team that finished among the best in baseball during the regular season, the move raised eyebrows. Some saw it as another example of Milwaukee prioritizing long-term flexibility over immediate results, while others viewed it as a calculated step rooted in organizational confidence.

At the center of that confidence is general manager Matt Arnold, who made it clear that the Brewers believe they are well-equipped to absorb the loss and remain competitive thanks to their internal depth.

“We really like the defense we have in our infield, and when you look at the future, there are a lot of guys coming with high upside,” Arnold said. “We feel like we have the ingredients to weather the loss of somebody like Caleb Durbin.”

Caleb Durbin #21 with the Brewers hits a single. Michael Reaves/Getty Images

Why Durbin’s departure still carries risk

Durbin’s performance made him an attractive piece. In his 2025 rookie season, the 25-year-old showed power, speed, and versatility, producing across the board while holding his own defensively. Players with that profile are rarely easy to replace.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/ny-yankees-make-subtle-roster-move-add-versatile-infielder-from-athletics" image="https://media.bolavip.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2026/01/06170304/aaron-boone-200x200.webp" excerpt="The New York Yankees acquired an experienced infielder from the Athletics, signaling a depth-focused roster move as competition intensifies ahead of spring training.

As Milwaukee looks ahead, the trade may ultimately serve as a defining moment. If the replacements perform, the move will be seen as proactive roster management. If not, questions about selling too soon will only grow louder.

In a move that tightens the divisional race, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly lost a veteran presence behind the plate to a direct rival as free agency progresses.
The Chicago Cubs will enter the 2026 season without one of their veteran catchers, as Reese McGuire has moved on to a familiar rival. After spending parts of eight major league seasons with multiple teams, the left-handed hitter is now set to compete in Milwaukee, a team that has dominated the National League Central in recent years.

McGuire, 30, agreed to a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, which includes an invitation to major league spring training, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. This marks the second consecutive year the catcher joins a camp as a non-roster invitee, hoping to carve out a role behind All-Star William Contreras.

Despite a modest 2025 campaign with the Cubs, hitting .226/.245/.444 in 44 games, McGuire brings experience and versatility. In nearly 400 career MLB games, spanning stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and Cubs, he has maintained a .248/.293/.374 slash line, primarily as a backup catcher.

Cubs’ loss could fuel the NL Central rivalry

McGuire first reached the majors with Toronto after being traded from Pittsburgh as a minor leaguer. He debuted in 2016 and has since provided depth at catcher for multiple organizations. Last season, he began at Triple-A Iowa before debuting with the Cubs in May, immediately making an impact with a two-home-run game.

Now, McGuire returns to the NL Central with a new mission: helping the Brewers compete at the top of the division while facing the Cubs, the team he played for just last year.

Following his trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, Freddy Peralta may be facing a significant decision as he joins the New York Mets for the upcoming regular season.
In a bold offseason move, the New York Mets have demonstrated their unwillingness to miss out on opportunities by acquiring Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers. The franchise’s expectations for Peralta are sky-high, as they anticipate his significant contributions to their roster.

Just hours after making the announcement, reports from Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated suggest the Mets are exploring a contract extension for Peralta. “Given the cost for Peralta, it’s certainly possible that the Mets would want to extend the right-hander before he reaches free agency next winter,” Ragazzo notes.

Amidst these developments, Bo Bichette’s recent introduction to the fanbase has sparked excitement, revealing his choice of the Mets. Expectations are high for Peralta’s impact on the franchise, especially as the team’s previous season did not meet the fanbase’s expectations.

Additionally, whispers around the league suggest the Mets may be interested in acquiring another former player from the Brewers to bolster their rotation further. Despite this, there’s an atmosphere of optimism surrounding the organization following their recent off-season signings.

Freddy Peralta #51 of the Milwaukee Brewers

Peralta’s potential impact on the Mets organization

Freddy Peralta has garnered attention from multiple franchises, drawn by his remarkable talent and impressive statistics from his tenure with the Brewers. His influence within the Mets’ pitching rotation could be profound, contingent upon Manager Carlos Mendoza’s utilization of the 29-year-old talent.

Peralta’s stellar record includes 17 wins—leading the National League—an ERA of 2.70, with 124 hits and 54 runs allowed over 33 games and 176.2 innings pitched. He aims to validate the Mets’ confidence in his abilities and propel them toward a successful bid for next season’s World Series.

These developments underscore the Mets’ aggressive pursuit of top-tier talent for their roster. With Bo Bichette as a key acquisition, along with other notable additions, there is a buzz of anticipation within the fanbase, eager to witness the team exceed expectations in the upcoming season.

With the New York Mets reportedly not seeking further additions to their roster, a new report has surfaced concerning a player who was with the Milwaukee Brewers last season.
The offseason has been nothing short of extraordinary for the New York Mets. The team appears to be in excellent shape following several key acquisitions during the current market period. Additionally, they are reportedly still in the conversation when it comes to signing more players in free agency, with potential new talent heading to New York.

MLB insider Hector Gomez reports that the Mets have expressed interest in Colombian pitcher and former Milwaukee Brewers player, Jose Quintana. As the team seeks to enhance their pitching rotation, Quintana has emerged as a viable option.

Quintana’s presence in the 2023 and 2024 seasons could be a pivotal factor for the Mets, as they aim to strengthen their roster in preparation for the upcoming season. His addition would provide much-needed depth.

While Quintana posted solid numbers with the Brewers last season, they weren’t compelling enough for Milwaukee to retain him for the coming season. Nonetheless, circumstances may change as the Mets are not the only team interested in securing the Colombian pitcher’s services.

Jose Quintana #62 of the Milwaukee Brewers looks on.

Reported teams pursuing Quintana

The Mets are joined by other franchises reportedly expressing interest in adding Quintana to their rosters for the next season. However, no clear front-runner has emerged with just a short period remaining before the regular season commences.

“Other teams that have shown interest in Quintana include the Padres, Rangers, Tigers, and Rockies, among others,” Gomez revealed on his social media account, alongside the interest from the New York franchise.

Quintana’s performance in the previous season with the Brewers

Quintana’s efforts on the mound weren’t sufficient for the Brewers to consider him for the upcoming season, as certain shortcomings left questions about his readiness for future challenges. Nevertheless, his future remains uncertain and continues to be a topic of intrigue.

The New York Mets make a major rotation upgrade by acquiring Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, prompting president David Stearns to explain the move and its impact on the team’s offseason strategy.
The New York Mets under the direction of president of baseball operations David Stearns, spent much of the offseason reshaping their roster with an emphasis on offense, while a critical question lingered within their pitching staff. As spring training approached, the absence of a proven front-line starter remained the organization’s most pressing concern.

That gap finally closed late Wednesday night, when New York completed a significant trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire right-hander Freddy Peralta, instantly upgrading a rotation that struggled for consistency during the second half of last season.

Stearns addressed the move shortly after it became official, emphasizing its importance to the club’s long-term plan. “Acquiring Freddy adds another established starter to help lead our rotation,” Stearns said via SNY. “Throughout the offseason, we sought to complement our rotation with another front-end pitcher.”

Why did the Mets prioritize Freddy Peralta now?

New York ranked near the bottom of MLB in rotation ERA after mid-June in 2025, exposing the need for a pitcher capable of anchoring the staff. Peralta, a two-time All-Star, posted a 2.70 ERA over 33 starts last season, offering durability and swing-and-miss ability the Mets lacked.

Freddy Peralta #51 with the Brewers pitches against the Cubs.
What does the trade mean for the Mets’ rotation outlook?

Peralta steps in as the de facto ace, joining Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, and Devin Williams in a group that now features both depth and top-end upside. His addition raises expectations as the Mets shift their focus from roster construction to postseason contention.
