With two DP spots open and the recent signing of USMNT defender Tim Ream, Charlotte FC is ready to make some noise in the second half of the MLS season. The team is also in the Round of 16 of the Leagues Cup.

According to various reports, the two players in question are Argentine Copa America winner Giovani Lo Celso and Newcastle United’s former MLS Cup winner Miguel Almirón.

Giovani Lo Celso

According to Mail Sport, Giovani Lo Celso has no place at Tottenham for the next season, and the club is trying to find him a new home. Reports suggest that Charlotte FC has inquired about the former PSG defender, but there are no reports on whether Lo Celso is interested in a move to MLS.

Miguel Almirón

Miguel Almirón has been reported by various sources to be in talks with Charlotte FC about a return to MLS, following two successful years with Atlanta United. The news was met with anger by the Atlanta faithful, as Miguel Almirón is considered a club legend.

Charlotte FC executives are reportedly in London talking with Newcastle and Miguel Almirón to bring the deal to the finish line.

Situation of De Gea

David De Gea is currently a free agent, his contract ended with Manchester United in the summer, and he did not sign with any club as he calmly views his options. De Gea was one of the Premier League’s highest paid players during his time at Manchester United, so the former Spanish international is in no rush.

De Gea has been linked to Real Betis, Inter Miami of MLS, and Al-Ettifaq but nothing major has transpired in regard to those rumors. De Gea spent 12 years at United and made 545 appearances for the Red Devils.

De Gea began his career at Atlético Madrid in 2009 and would play 57 matches for the team before in 2011 moving to Manchester United. From 2011- 2023 De Gea owned the nets at Old Trafford.

De Gea has won two titles with Atlético Madrid and 8 titles with Manchester United. De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove twice.

This has forced the executives of the Premier League to present a vote that according to sources will go through that will prevent the loan of players who indirectly are tied to an owner who has multiple clubs.

The ban would be temporary, and only for the January transfer window, the vote is set to take place on November 21st and clearly points to Newcastle United.

Vote on banning player loans in the Premier League

In order for the vote to go through 14 of the 20 clubs must vote to accept the ban, the ban would be for incoming loans and not outgoing.

The idea is for the league to keep the playing field level and come up with a solid solution moving forward for owners who have multiple clubs around the world.

Owners with clubs all over the world

Owners who own multiple teams have become all too common in soccer, the City Football Group is a clear example of an entity that has relations and ties all over the world. CFG has loaned players to many of their clubs to free up roster space, find temporary solutions, the best case would be Taty Castellanos who moved “on loan” to Girona as MLS and CFG found a permanent transfer solution for the Argentine.

Still conflicts of interest are beginning to arise as some of these owners have leveraged their network of clubs to be feeders directly between each other. FIFA has yet to find a proper solution or place a limit as to how many clubs one owner can have.

Under fire manager Erik ten Hag stated he “felt sorry” for Manchester United fans who are enduring their worst start in 61 years. Many pundits in England are already stating if it’s the end of the road for the former Ajax boss.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are lining up at least seven candidates to take over the job that many high-profile coaches have blundered since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Admitting to betting on sports is just one of the charges, the other being investigated is that the duo betted on certain events and tried to cash in on them in their favor, such as getting a yellow card on a certain minute or corners for one team in a game.

At the moment both players will most likely receive a sanction for betting while being professionals of the game, which is not allowed. Still their sanction can be reduced by collaborating with authorities and doing specific off the field work for the Italian federation, such as being the face of an anti- betting campaign. Still both Sandro Tonali and Nicoló Fagioli could face a ban of up to four years if it is proven that they partook in not only just betting, but placed bets to alter a result or take advantage of a situation.

Tonali could miss the Euros

Tonali has seen his career put on hold as authorities investigate just how deep he is in the betting scandal. Police arrived at Italy’s training for their Euro 2024 qualifying matches and interrogated the star midfielder who confessed to his betting addiction. At the moment if things stay as they are and Tonali receives a minimum sanction, the Newcastle star will most likely miss the Euro Cup, all signs point to a suspension for the Italian star of at least one year.

Fagioli has already begun to cooperate with authorities and confessed to his gaming addiction, while Tonali is soon to do the same as he has admitted to being addicted to betting, but yet to speak with the federation according to reports in Italy. By confessing and seeking help both footballers open themselves up to a reduced sentence.

Sandro Tonali is one of the biggest prospects in all of Italian soccer, making a name for himself at AC Milan before moving to Newcastle United this season. He has 15 caps for the Italian national team.

Nicolò Fagioli is an Italian youth international making a name for himself at Juventus, the midfielder has one cap for the four time World Champions and is in his third season with the Italian old lady.
