Orlando Brown Jr. left Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs for Joe Burrow's Cincinnati Bengals ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
The Cincinnati Bengals pulled off one of the biggest moves of the 2023 NFL offseason by signing offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., who spent the last two seasons protecting Patrick Mahomes at the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, he has the mission to help Joe Burrow.

Brown is certainly a massive addition for the Bengals, since they landed one of the best in the league. The former Ravens player played an instrumental role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl success last season.

It’s also a move the 2018 third-rounder can take pride of, since Burrow will be third star QB he gets to play with – he also had Lamar Jackson as teammate in Baltimore. Brown, however, believes his role in Cincinnati will be much different to the one he had in Mahome’s offense.

Orlando Brown Jr. explains the difference between playing with Mahomes and protecting Burrow

“It’ll be very different for me personally,” Brown said on ESPN’s NFL Live, via Russ Heltman of SI.com. “A lot of these drops by Patrick [Mahomes] right here in the Super Bowl were similar to kind of what I’m going to see in Cincinnati.

“But [there are] so many different concepts that we run in Cincinnati compared to Kansas City from a pass standpoint with the receivers … it’s gonna be a lot more firm. It’s gonna be a lot quicker, you know, I’ll be able to be a lot more aggressive in certain situations, just given the personnel and the way that they call plays.”

Brown’s departure is a huge blow for the Chiefs, since he’s also strengthening an AFC rival. Only time will tell, but this signing could prove to be the missing for Burrow and the Bengals.

Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. made a surprising decision in the free agency, signing for the Cincinnati Bengals. Unsurprisingly, it didn't sit well with one of his former teammates in Kansas City.
The 2023 Super Bowl is still fresh in the memory, which is why the Chiefs have enough reasons to be the happiest team in the NFL. However, the last few weeks have started to raise some concern in Kansas City.

Even though they still have the best quarterback in the league in Patrick Mahomes, the team has started to lose members of its championship-winning team. But none of their departures hurt so much as Orlando Brown Jr. leaving for the Bengals.

The left tackle, a pivotal protector for Mahomes, not only leaves a huge hole at Arrowhead but also strengthens an AFC rival that made life difficult for the Chiefs in recent years. Therefore, tight end Travis Kelce admitted to be hurt.

Travis Kelce says it hurt to see Orlando Brown Jr. leave Chiefs for Bengals

“It hurts. It hurts my soul, man. Hurts my soul”,said Kelce on his New Heights podcast, as quoted by the Kansas City Star. “It’s like watching your best friend just turn evil on you. It’s tough man. Obviously, I mean, the past like two years we’ve struggled beating the Bengals.

“So there’s been a lot of like build up in emotion of like, I would say, not necessarily hate but just like dislike towards the Bengals because they keep beating us, and they keep talking about it every time they do. So it’s like, man, to see him go to the dark side man, it’s an awkward feeling. Obviously I hope that he has an absolute Hall of Fame career. You know what I mean? I wish nothing but the best for OB. He was an unbelievable leader. An unbelievable teammate on and off the field.”

Obviously, you can understand Kelce’s point of view. Brown Jr. was instrumental to the Chiefs’ success, so if losing him to another team was already a huge blow, let alone if he joins the conference rivals. Now, things will be more challenging for Mahomes and Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl not too long ago, but they will have important decisions to make in their roster. One of those will be what happens with LT Orlando Brown Jr. Check out his age, height, weight, contract, and franchise tag value.
The Chiefs have been all over the news for around 10 days now after winning the Super Bowl in Arizona. Although that doesn’t mean Kansas City’s front office is taking a break. There is one situation that Andy Reid will want to have figured out as soon as possible in Orlando Brown Jr.’s contract extension.

The message that the left tackle made sure everyone listened was about the performance of the offensive line against the Philadelphia Eagles. “0sacks. Put iton a f… T-shirt!”, he posted on Twitter after their win praising the great protection Patrick Mahomes had in front of a complete defense.

This will be the main topic of the offseason for the defending champions. The 2020 season ended for the Chiefs with a loss to the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl that had Mahomes running for his life on every snap behind poor O-line play. They revamped that area immediately, but now Orlando Brown Jr. could become a free agent in March.

How old is Orlando Brown Jr.?

Brown was born on May 2, 1996, so he is currently 26 years old. His place of birth was Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

How tall is Orlando Brown Jr.?

Brown is 6’8” or 2.03m tall.

How much does Orlando Brown Jr. weigh?

Brown weighs 340 lbs. or 154 kg., according to the team’s official website.

Is Orlando Brown Jr. a free agent?

Brown was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft, but he was traded to the Chiefs prior to the 2021 season. That means his rookie contract expired after that year, although he wasn’t able to hit free agency because Kansas City designated him with the franchise tag. He became an unrestricted free agency after not getting an extension, but he quickly signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Orlando Brown’s contract with the Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals moved fast to steal a rival’s left tackle. Brown signed a four-year deal worth 64 million dollars to protect Joe Burrow. Those 16 millionin AAV is lower than what he was reportedly asking for to remain with the Chiefs, although he received a31 million signing bonus to compensate.

How much didthe franchise tag cost for Orlando Brown Jr.?

The way the Chiefs could have kept Brown wasby using the franchise tag again if they didn’t reach an agreement for a long-term extension. The franchise tag is a one-year deal fully guaranteed that changes its value every season. In 2023 the value for offensive linemen is $18,244,000, according to Spotrac. Although his number would havebeen higher because for those who are designated for the second time the cost is at least a 120% increase from the previous figure. Brown would havereceived $19,994,400 if he was tagged again.
