In 2023, the Colts not only brought in a new quarterback but also welcomed a new head coach. Shane Steichen, formerly the offensive coordinator for the Eagles, took on his first head coaching job in a challenging role.

In his first season, Steichen led the Colts to a 9-8 record, but a 7-9 finish in 2024 left their season over early, and his coaching decisions have drawn significant criticism.

Pat McAfee, the former punter for the Colts, has criticized Steichen for allowing players to be late to practice, among other controversial decisions. Steichen, however, has fired back, defending his choices against McAfee’s remarks.

“I think with any team, right, not everyone’s gonna be on time every time, but there is accountability and guys are held to a standard and that is talked about in house,” Steichen said to reporters on Monday. “And I don’t think that. And I think, you know, with anything — I think Pat, you know, he’s a former alumni who wants to see the Colts do well, just like all our fans want us to do well, and when the standard is not getting in the playoffs, it’s frustrating. So it’s frustrating for a lot of people, myself included. And that’s where we talked about the standard being raised so we’re not in these situations.”

After successful seasons with the Eagles, Steichen received his first head coaching opportunity in 2023. His work in building a strong offense in Philadelphia led to high expectations for him in Indianapolis.

Following an early elimination this year, many fans are questioning whether Steichen is the right fit. However, the Colts are not expected to part ways with him in 2025, as they aim to maintain consistency at the head coach position for the future.

It has been a long time since the Colts were a competitive team. Their last playoff appearance was in 2020, when they were eliminated by the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.

Last year, the Colts used their 4th overall pick to select Anthony Richardson. Although there were rumors the team was considering trading up, they ultimately stuck to their position and drafted the former Florida star.

Many scouts compared Richardson to Cam Newton—a physically dominant quarterback whose dual-threat ability would make him a major weapon. His early games showed promise, but a shoulder injury cut his rookie season short.

Heading into 2024, expectations were high. A healthier and more experienced Richardson was expected to lead the Colts to success. However, the former Florida standout had a dreadful season, even being benched in several games in favor of veteran Joe Flacco.

The Colts had a chance to stay alive with a win in Week 17. However, they surprisingly lost to the New York Giants and were eliminated from playoff contention. The result left fans furious, including former punter Pat McAfee.

That can’t be what the face of your team is doing.. just can’t be.. and to a bigger aspect of it all, somehow AR thought it was ok to do that. That’s a locker room issue.. that’s a culture issue.. [that’s] an indicator of a loser attitude radiating thru a building that was built by greats.”

Will the Colts move on from Anthony Richardson in 2025?

The future of Anthony Richardson with the Colts remains uncertain. While he showed potential early on, his recent performances and ongoing injury concerns have left the team unsure of his status.

Reports suggest the Colts will give him one more chance in 2025. Much like Bryce Young’s situation with the Panthers, this may be Richardson’s last opportunity to prove he can be the franchise quarterback the Colts have been waiting for.

The Caitlin Clark hatred is going out of hand and becoming borderline ridiculous at this point, as she’s even getting fouled hard and with intent to hurt just for no particular reason.

With that in mind, former NFL player Pat McAfee tried to defend her and praise her in his show. However, he had a poor choice of words to talk about the Indiana Fever star.

“I feel like the media people that continually say ‘this rookie class, this rookie class’. Nah. Just call it for what it is, there’s one white b*tch for the Indiana team who is a superstar,” McAfee said on his show.

McAfee Apologizes For His Words

Needless to say, it didn’t take long before the unapologetic and controversial commentator faced some serious backlash for his comments. He took to Twitter to apologize, and claimed that he reached out to Clark as well:

“I shouldn’t have used ‘white b*tch’ as a descriptor of Caitlin Clark. No matter the context. Even if we’re talking about race being a reason for some of the stuff happening. I have way too much respect for her and women to put that into the universe. My intentions when saying it were complimentary just like the entire segment but, a lot of folks are saying that it certainly wasn’t at all. That’s 100% on me and for that I apologize. I have sent an apology to Caitlin as well. Everything else I said, still alllllll facts. #Journalism #WNBAProgrum #SheIsTheOne,” McAfee tweeted.

McAfee marches to the beat of his own drum, and his unapologetic and unhinged nature is what got him such a huge platform. Still, there are lines that should never be crossed.

As for Clark, he should’ve probably taken Ice Cube’s offer to play in the Big 3 instead of the WNBA. For years, people have made sexist remarks about the league and its product, and it would be a shame to see the players proving them right.

If her colleagues don’t want all the money and attention that came with her or want to make it about race, perhaps they would rather get by without the checks that she’s inevitably going to bring to the table. They may not deserve her.
