Robert Woods, who began his professional career back in 2013, is bringing his veteran talent to the AFC North as the newest addition to Tomlin’s squad. The seasoned wide receiver could potentially form a dangerous duo with Rodgers—should the star quarterback ultimately land in Pittsburgh.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport broke the news on his official X account (formerly Twitter), announcing that the former Super Bowl champion with the Rams is headed to the Steelers.

“Source: The #Steelers are signing veteran WR Robert Woods to a 1-year, $2M deal. A new target and big-time locker room presence for… whoever their QB ends up being. The former #Texans WR lands in a great spot,” the insider reported via @RapSheet.

While there is still no certainty regarding Aaron Rodgers’ final decision about his future, many sources suggest that the meeting between the QB and the Steelers could lead to a positive outcome.

The big question many are asking is whether Rodgers could be the missing piece Pittsburgh needs to reach another Super Bowl. There’s no shortage of talent and experience, but the doubts about what the former Jets QB can bring to Mike Tomlin’s team on the field are still evident.

“You know how free agency is,” Woods said to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. “Whatever is best for me and my family and my football career. If that’s in Houston, however it goes, we’ll look to that.”

In this scenario, with some of Stroud’s teammates still recovering from injuries, if Woods were to leave for another team, it would be a tough blow for the Texans. Michael Thomas has been a solid contributor for the Saints but had a 2020 to forget, injuries and punching C. J. Gardner-Johnson in practice were all she wrote last year for Thomas. He will need to rebound big time in 2021, but Thomas will be out for at least one third of the season due to injury.
