Even so, it seems like his dream turned into the worst kind of nightmare pretty soon.

The rookie St. Louis Cardinals reliever was sent to the mound in the bottom of the fifth to replace starter Dakota Hudson and face the top of the Chicago White Sox’s offense.While the set up wasn’t ideal for a debuting pitcher, no one ever thought things could go that wrong that fast.

Yoan Moncáda welcomed the former eighth-round pick to the Majors with a three-run bomb to deep right field, followed by three solo homers byYasmani Grandal, José Abreu, and Eloy Jiménez. Yikes.

Historically Bad

Ramírez was never in control of the situation and became the first pitcher in MLB history to allow four consecutive home runs. Even though he’s not the first rookie to be blown out by 4+ homers in his debut, he’s the first to allow 4 straight.

For those wondering, the last time a rookie pitcher gave up 4 homers in his debut happened in 1901. Also, it wasjust the 10th time in Major League Baseball history that a team hits 4 consecutive home runs, as per Slangs on Sports.

It goes without saying that Ramírez was sent back to the showers after that 4th homer, logging 30 pitches, 1 base on balls, 1 K, an 81.00 ERA, and a 10.50 WHIP. Not the kind of record or debut he was hoping for.
