After the Texas Longhorns lost last week, Arch Manning was heavily criticized for his performance. After that, all eyes were on him as they faced San Jose State. Let’s just say he was absolutely insane and his stocks, at least on social media, are higher than ever.

Manning completed 19/30 passes for 295 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He also scored a touchdown by running in it into the endzone. Texas won 38-7 on their home debut. San Jose State had no answers

Fans on social media, of course, are going crazy. “Yeah there will NOT be any Arch Manning slander” was one of the posts made on X reacting to his masterful performance. Also, user mlouden87 posted, “Oh so Arch Manning IS good? Because last week you all told me he wasn’t.“

There were also trolls not buying Manning’s performance

While it’s true that the game against Ohio State was clearly more important, Manning showed character bouncing back. However, not all fans are buying the Manning stock due to the program he beat. “Of course, at home against *checks notes* San Jose State, Arch Manning is gonna throw four touchdowns and run for another. If he had struggled against the Spartans of San Jose State, we would’ve had a big problem,” said user HenYay.

Others also played with irony. “ARCH MANNING AGAINST PAID ACTORS IS THE GREATEST QB OF OUR GENERATION,” one account posted. It seems like Manning is a very polarizing figure and we are only in Week 2 of the season.

What’s next for the Longhorns?

The next few matches will help Manning either solidify his reputation, or prove the haters right. For the next couple of games, Manning should thrive as Texas faces unranked opposition at home. Next week, they host UTEP and then Sam Houston.

The real tests come after, as Texas visits 13-ranked Florida and then welcome 18-ranked Oklahoma into their stadium. Manning will have to shine especially in these two games to make people believe fully in his level.

The 21-year-old quarterback is now looking to make an example of the San Jose State Spartans to send a message to the rest of the NCAA. There’s no use crying over spilled milk, and Manning knows better than to do so. On that note, Texas‘ young signal caller has voiced a strong warning to the upcoming opponents and the rest of the league.

“[There wasn’t] much to like,” Manning admitted to reporters about the season opener. “But I’m proud of the guys, I think we battled back for the most part, and I’ve got to play better.

“You don’t like losing, especially in the opening week going 0-1. But the sun comes up and it’s time to attack San Jose State, can’t dwell on the past. It’s not going to help me or the team, so we got to learn from it, get better, and attack this week.”

Find his mojo

It wasn’t the start he envisioned for his days as a starting quarterback in college football, but it’s time for Manning to put it on the back burner. In that tune, Sarkisian laid out a blueprint for Manning to turn the page. The upcoming schedule could help Texas achieve just that. Up next, the calendar becomes much friendlier for Manning and the Horns.

In the next three weeks, the Horns won’t step foot outside of Austin with inferior opponents paying them visits at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. On September 6, Texas will host the San Jose State looking to get back on a .500 record in the NCAA. The following Saturday (Sept. 13), it will be the UTEP Miners who walk into The Forty Acres. Finally, on September 20, the Sam Houston Bearkats will be in town.

Can’t mess up

Anything other than a 3-0 run would be a disappointment for Manning and the Longhorns. Moreover, fans in Texas expect the burnt orange to win in dominant fashion. After all, the Longhorns are ranked in seventh place in the AP top 25 Poll, so it’s only fitting for them to prevail over unranked opponents with little expectations set on them.

Once that three-game stretch is done, the SEC schedule will take over and that’s when Manning and Texas must be at their best. Florida will be the first league-opponent, when the Horns walk into The Swamp. Needless to say, the Longhorns must be at their best or they could be in for a very long evening in Gainesville.

This time around, the UCLA Bruins are in centerstage, once again, as a quarterback in DeShaun Foster’s team has now changed address, staying in the Golden State, nevertheless.

Iamaleava has yet to touch down in Los Angeles, as the transfer process requires him to complete his academic obligations at his previous institution, and he is expected at UCLA during the summer.

Despite being 2,199 miles away in Knoxville, Iamaleava continues to impact the daily life on campus at UCLA. Quarterbacks in the program have now departed, making way for Nico and his brother Madden Iamaleava. On that note, freshman Robert McDaniel is transferring to San Jose State ahead of his first year in college football, as reported by On3.

Short-lived stay in LA

McDaniel committed to UCLA as a three-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, but has now signed with the San Jose State Spartans, as the QB room LA is preparing to welcome in Nicholas and Madden Iamaleava ahead of the 2025 NCAA season.

McDaniel, who was born and raised in California, joins Joey Aguilar in the list of UCLA quarterbacks that have made use of the transfer portal after Iamaleava’s transfer as their playing time would have dimished greatly—if not entirely— with the former Vols’ star’s arrival.

Aguilar completed what was virtually a trade in college football. The former Bruins’ signal-caller signed with the Volunteers, replacing Iamaleava under center for Josh Heupel’s Tennessee during the 2025 campaign.
