“It is not the image I want to give neither in front of my family, who suffers from my mistakes, nor in front of my club, which also does not deserve to be affected by something like that. I feel bad about what happened, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to recognize it, and apologize to all those who felt bad for what I did. We know that there is still a long season ahead, and we will work together to achieve the successes that this club and all its fans deserve,” he concluded.

After days of silence, the Uruguayan striker finally addressed the matter with a lengthy post on social media Thursday. Taking to Instagram, Suarez apologized for his actions and congratulated the Sounders for their win.

Will MLS sanction Luis Suarez over Leagues Cup incident?

Of course, the question now is whether the MLS will take action and punish Suarez for his controversial behavior. Even though the incident occurred in the Leagues Cup and not in MLS play, the league can still punish the striker.

CBS Sports notes that the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement covers sanctions for “misconduct that occurs in any stadium or playing facility and which occurs at, during, or in connection with any game or tournament in which the player competes.”

Not only did Suarez play for Inter Miami against another MLS team, but the match also took place at Lumen Field, home to the Sounders. However, the Leagues Cup Disciplinary Committee has to review the incident first.

How many games could Suarez miss?

That committee must include five members, with four of those appointed by the commissioner and two of them being former MLS players. If Suarez gets suspended for more than two games, the MLS Players Association will be allowed to appeal. But as soon as the final whistle blew, chaos ensued. Luis Suarez was spotted spitting on a Sounders’ coaching staff member, with players and members of both teams later being involved in a huge brawl.

Suarez faced harsh backlash on social media for his aggressive behavior and was also mocked for his infamous 2014 World Cup incident, when he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during a match between Uruguay and Italy.

Gene Ramirez, a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff and the victim of the spit, took a moment to joke about the incident. “I was waiting for the bite,” Ramirez said in Spanish while speaking to reporters after the match.

Suarez wasn’t the only player from Inter Miami involved in the post-match brawl, though. Sergio Busquets was caught on video throwing a punch at Mexican forward Obed Vargas. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi stayed clear of the conflict and even helped calm the heated situation at Lumen Field.

Suarez’s history of on-field incidents

This wasn’t the first time Luis Suarez found himself embroiled in controversy over his on-field behavior. In fact, he has bitten opponents on three separate occasions.

The first occurred in 2010 while playing for Ajax against PSV, when he bit Otman Bakkal. His second incident came in 2013 with Liverpool against Chelsea, targeting defender Branislav Ivanovic. The most infamous instance, however, took place during the 2014 World Cup.

In the group stage match between Uruguay and Italy, with 12 minutes remaining and the score tied 0-0, Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini inside the Italian penalty area. He was not sent off, as the referee did not see the incident and VAR had not yet been implemented.

However, following the World Cup, FIFA handed Suarez a harsh punishment: a nine-match ban and a four-month suspension from all soccer activities. This disciplinary action delayed his debut for Barcelona after leaving Liverpool during that transfer window.

Inter Miami announced that 20-year-old Benjamin Cremaschi has been loaned to Serie A side Parma Calcio 1913 through June 2026. The deal also includes an option for Parma to purchase the player.

“Inter Miami CF announced today it has loaned Homegrown Player Benjamin Cremaschi to Italian Serie A side Parma Calcio 1913 through June 2026. Parma will also hold an option to purchase the midfielder,” the club’s official statement read.

Cremaschi, who joined Inter’s academy in 2021, quickly rose through the U-17 and reserve teams before making his first-team debut in February 2023. He was a key piece alongside Messi in Inter Miami’s run to the 2023 Leagues Cup title and later contributed to the club’s 2024 Supporters’ Shield campaign.

In total, the midfielder made 107 appearances across all competitions with eight goals and nine assists, leaving as a two-time trophy winner in Miami’s short history.

Cremaschi’s frustrations over playing time

In August, Cremaschi publicly expressed his disappointment with the limited minutes he was receiving under head coach Javier Mascherano. He also pointed to being shuffled across different positions without time to prepare, which he felt was negatively impacting his performances.

“It frustrates me, I want to play, that’s the most important thing for me. I want to play at a very high level, and that comes with minutes. I haven’t played much in these last games. I don’t think it’s because of my level because I feel good. I imagine it’s for other reasons, or maybe because of my level,” Cremaschi noted.

“At the moment you don’t know what position you’re going to play. I go into matches having no idea where I’ll be. This year we had several injuries and suspensions, so I covered different positions, but preparing for the role I’ll play is impossible. It’s mentally tough sometimes,” he added.

Mascherano fires back at Cremaschi’s comments

After Inter Miami’s 3-1 win over LA Galaxy on August 16, — a match where Lionel Messi shined with a brace — Javier Mascherano was asked directly about the 20-year-old’s comments.
