Believe it or not, Mexico is ready to host the Olympic Games. Read here to check out the details of when this could happen.
The government of Mexico has officially submitted a request to host the Olympic Games. The person in charge of announcing the historic news was the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard. “I share the text of the letter that I delivered this morning to Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, to apply for Mexico as host of the 2036-40 Olympic Games.”

Mexico hosted the 1968 Olympic Games and, in something very important around its candidacy, it can also claim to be the only country to organize three World Cups in soccer (1970, 1986 and 2026).

However, the competition to win the right to organize the Olympic Games is going to be really tough. Read here to check out more details of the proposal made by Mexico and which other cities could be in line to host the event.

Where are the 2036 Olympics?

So far, several cities have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. Seoul (South Korea), Ahmedabad (India), Doha (Qatar), Nusantara (Indonesia), Istanbul (Turkey), Florence (Italy), Copenhagen (Denmark), Montreal (Canada), as well as multiple cities in China.

Mexico presents formal bid to organize the 2036 Olympic Games

Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, visited the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, to meet with IOC President Thomas Bach. Ebrard pointedout in his letter that Mexico is experiencing an ideal moment to organize the Summer Olympics in 2036 or 2040.

“The purpose of this visit is to express to you and the IOC, in a formal way, Mexico’s interest in organizing the next Olympic Games in 2036-2040. This initiative is motivated by the historical moment that Mexico is experiencing, in which the best values and traditions of our people have been revalued and our society has become the most participatory inmany decades.”

In addition, Marcelo Ebrard assured that Mexico has the necessary infrastructure to organize the Olympic Games. It is important to note that the next option to host the event is 2036, since the next venues have already been designated by the IOC: Paris 2024 (France), Los Angeles 2028 (United States)and Brisbane 2032 (Australia).

“Mexico has, in various cities and regions, the sports, economic, and hotel infrastructure to celebrate successful, austere, and universal Olympic Games that promote the values of peace, brotherhood, and justice in which we believe,” was part of the message by Marcelo Ebrard for Thomas Bach.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are just around the corner. Read here to find out why and how France will use artificial intelligence to present the best games ever.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are less than two years away. After Tokyo 2020 was postponed for a year considering the impact of the pandemic, the traditional waiting period has been shortened and France is announcing important actions to deliver the best games in history.

The Olympic games in France are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. Paris is the host city, but there will be other French locations involved to have specific sports and venues. For example, in a spectacular scenario,Tahiti will host the surfing competition.

This will be the third time Paris hosts the Summer Olympics (1908, 1924). Thatfeat has only been achieved by London (1908, 1948 and 2012). In a fantastic development in the history of the games, France confirmed artificial intelligence could play a major role. Read here to find out the impact of AI for tourists and crowds during the games.

France announces artificial intelligence system for the Olympic Games

According to a report from AFP, France is ready to implement a crowd control system assisted by artificial intelligence. The main goal is to have top security measures during the Olympics and avoid any type of complications. AI could be crucial in massive events.

For example, in something new for the Olympics, the opening ceremony will be an open-airevent in the margins of the Seine River. In order to have control over thousands of fans, artificial intelligence would definitely could upgrade any security plan. The estimated attendance for the opening ceremony in 2024 is around 600 000 people in Paris.

How will the system work? Considering privacy issues, facial recognition is not an option at the moment. However, full-body scanners might enter the picture in the plan which has been prepared by the authorities. Through all these security cameras, the AI software would immediately detect suspicious or violent behavior helping with the location and data of anyone involved.

Flo-Jo broke the Summer Olympic record in 1988 for the 200 m when she ran it in 21:34.This is not only a Summer Olympic record, it still stands as a world record that no one has come close to beating.

20. Most gold won in a single women’s tournament (Kristin Otto)

Kristin Otto is a German swimming champion who held the world records for the 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle events. She was also the first woman to swim the 100 meter backstroke in under a minute.

Kristin Otto of East Germany punches the air after winning the 100 Metres Freestyle event at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea (Getty)

19. Beating a three-time defending olympic champion (Rulon Gardner)

Rulon Gardner is a retired Greco-Roman olympic gold medalist wrestler. This is particularly impressive because of what he accomplished in 2000. At the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic games Gardner pulled off the impossible.

Rulon Gardner of the USA walks off the mat after competing against Miguel Lopez of Cuba during the wrestling portion of the Titan Games at the Events Center at San Jose State on Febraury 14, 2003 in San Jose, California (Getty)

Gardner got to the final of the competition where he had to face Russia’s Aleksandr Karelin. Karelin was unbeaten for 13 years in international competitions and had not given up a single point in 6 years. Gardner was able to defeat the world championwhen he was freshlyout of college.

18. Biggest game score (USA vs Nigeria)

Basketball is a popular Summer Olympic sport. No team does it better than the United States when it comes to basketball and in this particular game the US really showed how good they truly are.

Gold medalist Kevin Durant of the United States poses for a photo following the Men’s Gold medal game on Day 16 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at Carioca Arena 1 on August 21, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Getty)

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, the United States faced off against Nigeria in a game that would break records. The US beat Nigeria 156-72 for a total of 229 points. That record hasn’t even been close to being beaten since.

17. Bowling gold medal performance(Arianne Cerdena)

Arianne Cerdena has a record that as of right now at least, will never be beaten. The 1988 Summer Olympics are the only ones to ever feature Bowling as one of their sports. So at least for now, this record can’t be broken.

    Arianne Cerdena (Announce.today)

Cerdena placed first and is the only woman ever to have a gold medal in bowling at the Summer Olympics. Bowling was discontinued because it is not easy for people in third-world countries to develop skill in bowling.

16. 200 mmen (Usain Bolt)

Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter who is now retired. He is considered by many as the greatest sprinter of all time and he holds three world records. He is also an eight-time Olympic gold medallist.

Gold medalist Usain Bolt of Jamaica stands on the podium during the medal ceremony for the Men’s 4 x 100 meter Relay on Day 15 (Getty)

Bolt is the only sprinter to win the Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles in three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012, and 2016). No one has come close to beating his time except himself, so we expect this record to stand for a while.

15. Most medals in a single Olympics women (Maria Gorokhovskaya)

Maria Gorokhovskaya was a Soviet gymnast who has the record for the most medals won by any woman in a single Olympics. She did this at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland.

    Maria Gorokhovskaya (Pinterest)

Gorokhovskaya won seven medals which is still the record to this day. That was the first Olympics that the Soviet Union even participated in and they completely dominated. She retired in 1954 and then became a judge until she passed in 1991.

14. Most medals in one Olympics (USA)

The United States has the most medals as it is when it comes to the Summer Olympics, but this record is outstanding. At the 1904 Summer Olympics the United States hosted the event in St.Louis, Missouri.

13. 100 m men (Usain Bolt)

Usain Bolt really needs no introduction. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist has many countless records but this one stands above his 200 m race one because this one was a harder time to beat.
