At 25-years old, Tammy Abraham seemed to be ready for a spot with England in the 2022 World Cup. In this article, you'll find out the reasons why the promising striker will not play in Qatar.
In the summer of 2021, Tammy Abraham’s potential seemed to be on the rise when AS Roma signed him to a four-year contract after paying a $40 million transfer fee to Chelsea. He was supposed to be the next star in the Serie A and, most certainly, that would have secured him a ticket for the World Cup with England.

Gareth Southgate’s squad are favorites to win the trophy for the first time since 1966. The Three Lions will play in Group B with Iran, Wales and the United States. Last year, they had a remarkable performance reaching the UEFA Euro final at home, which they lost to Italy.

Tammy Abraham showed flashes of his talent for many years. He scored 23 goals loaned to Bristol City (2016-2017) and 25 goals in his breakthrough season on 2018-2019 with Aston Villa. However, he never shined with Chelsea, owner of his rights, so Italy became the next adventure. It was the last chance to get a spot with England.

Why is Tammy Abraham missing the Qatar 2022 World Cup?

Tammy Abraham had the chance to represent Nigeria before receiving his first call for the English National Team. After a huge controversy in the African country when he snubbed them, because his father seemed to have an agreement with the Nigerian Federation, Abraham choseEngland.

Though the forwardhad played for England in a 2017 friendly against Germany, the door remained open for Nigeria until he finally made his official seniordebut with the Three Lions two years later in a UEFA Euro qualifier facing the Czech Republic. From that moment on, Abraham remainedon GarethSouthgate’s radar.

The problem for Abraham was the lack of goals this semester with AS Roma (3 goals in 15 matches at Serie A). That’s why in the end, he was surpassed in England’s roster by names such asHarry Kane, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Callum Wilson.

The world transfer market was shaken by the high profile moves of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but they were not the most expensive transfers this offseason. Find out who the top 10 summer transfers in 2021 were right here!
The silly season got down and expensive this summer with some very high-priced signings. While Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may have stolen the headlines, fans will be shocked to learn that the Argentine and the Portuguese were not this off-season’s most expensive transfers. In reality Messi left on a free and Ronaldo on a reported 12.5 million Euro transfer from Juventus.

Despite clubs trying to save as much as possible due to the covid pandemic, the usual suspects like Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United all spent the big bucks this offseason to prepare their teams for the new season.

Defenders were in high demand as 6 of the summer’s top transfers were defensive players. While Jack Grealish is the very questionable number 1 transfer of the summer. Here is the list of the top 10 2021 summer transfer signings in Europe!

10. Emiliano Buendía – €38.40 million

    Emiliano Buendía (Getty)

The Argentine right back, Emiliano Buendía transferred from Norwich City to Aston Villa for €38.40 million, Buendía played three years for Norwich before his move to Villa. Buendía has also been called up to the Argentine national team ahead of World Cup qualifying.

9. Tammy Abraham – €40 million

    Tammy Abraham (Getty)

English forward Tammy Abraham made the summer move from Chelsea, where he was often on loan to Serie A to Roma. The England striker will look to be a centerpiece of José Mourinho’s team, Abraham already has 1 goal in 2 games to kick off his new Italian career.

8. Ibrahima Konaté – €40 million

    Ibrahima Konaté (Getty)

The 22-year-old French defender completed his move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig for 40 million Euros. Ibrahima Konaté played 66 times for the Red Bulls and is known for his positional play and pace.

7. Raphaël Varane – €40 million

    Raphaël Varane (Getty)

The French center back was sold from Real Madrid to Manchester United for €40 million, Raphaël Varane was on United’s radar for quite some time and the club was finally able to land the World Cup winner to Old Trafford.

6. Dayot Upamecano – €42.50 million

    Dayot Upamecano (Getty)

Yet another French defender jumped ship as Dayot Upamecano moved from RB Leipzig, where he played 112 games to Bayern Munich for €42.50 million. The 22-year-old is just entering his prime and has been called up to the French national team three times in 2020.

5. Ben White – €58.50 million

    Ben White (Getty)

Ben White moved from Brighton & Hove Albion to Arsenal for a rather high €58.50 million, White had a very good run at Leeds United, but the transfer seems very high on a player who essentially has played for mid table teams in England.

4. Achraf Hakimi – €60 million

    Achraf Hakimi (Getty)

The Morocco international right back Achraf Hakimi moved from Inter Milan to suit up with Lionel Messi and Neymar at PSG. Hakimi played only 37 games for Inter Milan and scored 1 goal.

3. Jadon Sancho – €85 million

    Jadon Sancho (Getty)

One of the biggest transfer sagas of the year, Jadon Sancho finally left Borussia Dortmund and returned to England to play for Manchester United. Sancho cost the red devils €85 million, as one of the most exciting young players in the world much is expected from Sancho at Old Trafford.

2. Romelu Lukaku – €115 million

    Romelu Lukaku (Getty)

Back for his second stint in England with Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku was sold from Inter Milan where he was a scoring machine to Chelsea for €115 million. Chelsea gets what they have been looking for, for a while now, a powerful goal scoring forward.

1. Jack Grealish – €117.50 million

    Jack Grealish (Getty)

Jack Grealish is talented, but at €117.50 million? Seems a bit inflated but Manchester City got their man and Grealish is moving from Aston Villa to City. Not much of a goal scorer and only 12 caps for England with 0 goals, he is the number one player on this list ahead of players who have done much more and are younger.

Chelsea and Tammy Abraham could part ways this summer as the homegrown player is not a priority for Thomas Tuchel. Three Premier League rivals have emerged as candidates to land the 23-year-old striker.
Tammy Abraham‘s time with Chelsea could be over this summer, the academy player has lost his place in the Blues’ starting eleven with Thomas Tuchel‘s arrival and the Blues might be looking to cash in to chase an elite center-forward.

The 23-year-old striker played a pivotal role under Frank Lampardbut failed to prove such worth to the German boss that took the helm in January. Abraham, however, has showntalent and still has a bright future ahead of him, which is why he won’t be lacking in interested teams.

Chelsea are reportedly considering selling Abraham in the current transfer window as he could help them to raisefunds to go after Erling Haaland or Harry Kane. Three Premier League rivals could be landing the forward for the 2021/22 season.

Arsenal

Will Abraham join his boyhood club? (Getty)

London rivals Arsenal have reportedly become the latest side to join the race for Tammy Abraham. With Chelseaoffering the striker to different clubs, the Gunners have considered making a move to boost their attack, according to The Telegraph.

With Alexandre Lacazette already at 30 years of ageand linked with a move away from the Emirates while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang often performsas a left-winger, Abraham’s arrival to north London would make sense. Arsenal, however, would need to sell to afford his over $50 million price tag. Abraham admitted to being an Arsenal fan during his childhood and now he could wear the colors of his boyhood club.

West Ham

West Ham seem to be frontrunners in the race for Tammy Abraham’s signing. (Getty)

The Hammers are reportedly in front of the queue to sign Abraham, though. Following an impressive 2020/21 campaign which resulted in a Europa League spot for them, West Ham are now looking to upgrade their squad to repeat such a good season.

According to The Mirror, Tammy Abraham is keen on joining David Moyes‘ side over any other option as of now. Chelsea wouldn’t mind selling him to crosstown rivals as long as they meet their demands. However, Arsenal’s interest could change Abraham’s mind.

Tottenham

Abraham has been more off than on the pitch since Tuchel’s appointment. (Getty)

A less likely candidate, Tottenham have also beenlinked with the Chelsea striker as Harry Kane’s future is up in the air. The Blues have made Abraham available forthemas they try to make money from his departure before chasing a world-class No. 9.

Spurs’ priority seems to be retaining Kane, though, as the club’s chairmanDaniel Levy is reluctant to sell him to Premier League opponents. Still, should they end up losing their superstar, Abraham could become a stronger candidate to fill his shoes.

The upcoming transfer window probably won't be a quiet one for Chelsea, who are eager to boost their squad even after lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy. To make room for the new signings, several players would see the way out.
Even though they’ve recently tasted continental success in a thrilling UEFA Champions League final over Manchester City, Chelsea are reportedly looking forward to strengthening their team for the next season, in which they’ll have multiple challenges to face.

Not only the Blues would increase their transfer budget and allow Thomas Tuchel to spend over $200 million this summer, but they might also get rid of many players to make room for the new arrivals. According toDaily Mail, up to eleven names would be leavingStamford Bridge in the next few months.

With Fikayo Tomori set to be the first one to leave, as AC Milan would trigger the buy optionafter having him on loan since January, the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Davide Zappacosta, and maybe Ruben Loftus-Cheek, could follow his steps. Moreover, three big-name players are expected to see the exit as well.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham will probably leave Chelsea after playing few minutes under Tuchel (Getty).

The 23-year-old striker hasn’t seen the field very much since Tuchel’s arrival and it seems clear that his time at Chelsea would be over. The homegrown player has lost the pivotal role he played in Frank Lampard‘s system and with the Blues reportedly keen on signing Romelu Lukaku, he might have to consider a new destination.

He won’t be lacking in offers, as Aston Villa would be eager to have him back – he spent the 2018/19 season with them on loan – and West Ham also appears to be a potential suitor. However, it’s uncertain if they would satisfy his $44 million market value.

Olivier Giroud

Giroud’s contract expires this summer and Chelsea might not offer him a renewal (Getty).

The veteran center forward’s contract runs out this summer and AC Milan havereportedly approached him. Olivier Giroud struggled to earna place among Chelsea’s starting eleven since he joined them in 2018, but he proved to be a useful asset whenever he was given minutes.

However, with 34 years of age, he wouldn’t be part of Tuchel’s ambitious plans but the Rossoneri could provide him a great opportunity to play Champions League soccer next season. Giroud might also receive more offers soon, as Premier League clubs could have him on the radar.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley wouldn’t have much room in Chelsea’s squad (Getty).

Former Everton‘s exciting midfielder struggled to live up to the expectations at Chelsea, who spent around $18 million for him in 2018. Barkley still has two more years of contract with the Blues, but he wouldn’t stand a chance with all the options Tuchel now has in his position.

Besides, new arrivals would set aside him even more. He spent last season with Aston Villa on loan and certainly found the playing minutes he was looking for. According to the Daily Mail, West Ham might consider making a loan move for him but Chelsea would prefer to sell.
