Brandon Nimmo takes subtle shot at the NY Mets as he prepares for debut season with the Rangers

Brandon Nimmo got traded to the Texas Rangers, and it seems like he might still be sour about it, as he sent a subtle shot to the New York Mets.
Brandon Nimmo played for the New York Mets from 2016 to 2025. After 10 seasons, he was traded and it seems like the outfielder didn’t take it kindly. Speaking now as a member of the Texas Rangers, he took a shot at his former team.

Speaking to Foul Territory, Nimmo sent a clear message to the Mets, stating that now at least he feels cherished. “You want to be where you’re wanted, where you’re appreciated, and the Rangers made it abundantly clear.”

Nimmo had a career-high 25 home runs in 2025, but the Mets still traded him. He slashed .324/.436/.760 but the fact was that David Stearns wanted a change, and that ultimately was the factor that determined Nimmo’s fate.

Steve Cohen spoke about Nimmo too

Per Will Sammon of The Athletic, Cohen spoke to Nimmo explaining the situation and why he was getting traded. “This is really hard for me [Cohen] because you’re someone that I have developed a really good relationship with, and I’m trying to look at this from a business standpoint, but I also care about the person that you are.” Cohen then expanded on the reasoning behind the move.

Steve Cohen at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

“But also, this is David’s team,” Cohen said. “There’s a reason that I hired David, and it was to run the team. I can’t make all these decisions, and I love you as a person, but if this is what David feels like is best for the team, then I’m gonna go with him.”

Nimmo’s role with the Rangers is almost defined

Skip Schumaker, who is the Rangers manager, said that Nimmo will likely hit leadoff, as well as playing right field. Nimmo spent most of the 2024 season batting second, but as the leadoff, Nimmo has been incredibly effective.

Across 2,647 trips to the plate as a leadoff hitter, Nimmo has been a model of consistency, posting a .268/.372/.448 slash line. His ability has earned him 319 walks, while his sneaky power has made Nimmo go for 80 home runs from the top of the lineup.

The Texas leadoff spot became an irregular mess in 2025 where the team failed to find a rhythm once Marcus Semien moved out of the role. The Rangers’ production plummeted due to that. The team’s leadoff hitters limped to the fifth-lowest OBP in the MLB. This makes Nimmo’s elite on-base skills a plug-and-play solution for the lineup.

Veteran reliever and two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers is reportedly set to join the Texas Rangers, aiming to add bullpen depth.
Veteran reliever Ryan Brasier is set to continue his Major League career with a new opportunity, as he looks to prove he can still contribute to a contending bullpen.

The 38-year-old right-hander is a two-time World Series champion, having won titles with the Boston Red Sox in 2018 and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024. While injuries slowed him down last season, he has shown in recent years that he can still be effective when healthy, especially in high-leverage situations.

According to a report from MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, Brasier and the Texas Rangers are finalizing a contract, with Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News adding that it is expected to be a minor-league deal that includes a non-roster invitation to spring training.

A proven arm with postseason pedigree

Brasier’s career has included clear ups and downs, but his postseason résumé stands out. During Boston’s 2018 playoff run, he allowed just one earned run in 8 2/3 innings, playing a key role in the bullpen.

Ryan Brasier #57 with the Dodgers celebrates with the Commissioner’s Trophy. Alex Slitz/Getty Images

With the Dodgers in 2024, Brasier served as an opener in two postseason games, including an elimination matchup against the Padres that ended in a shutout win. Overall, he logged nine innings across eight playoff appearances that year.

New opportunity in Texas

Last season with the Chicago Cubs, Brasier spent most of the year on the injured list due to a groin strain. He appeared in just 28 games, finishing with a 4.50 ERA, though his underlying numbers suggested he pitched better than the results showed.

The Rangers’ bullpen is an area that could use added depth, giving Brasier a realistic path to earn a role if he stays healthy. Pitching for his hometown team adds another layer of motivation as he heads into spring training looking to extend his career and make an impact in Texas.

One of Corey Seager’s teammates was expected to be available to pitch for Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, but the news has now turned negative, and it remains unclear whether the Texas Rangers were the ones who opposed it.
Corey Seager has a teammate who was expected to be a pitching option for Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, but Jack Leiter will not be on the national team’s roster for the tournament, and it remains unclear who ultimately denied his participation.

“Though Team USA reached out about adding the Rangers’ right-hander to its World Baseball Classic roster, ultimately, the second-year starter will not participate, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Dallas Morning News,” Evan Grant wrote.

In his article for The Dallas Morning News, Grant makes it clear that it is still unknown who was behind the decision to prevent Leiter from playing in the WBC. “It is unclear if insurance was at the heart of the Leiter situation or if there were other concerns expressed by the Rangers,” Grant wrote.

Not a heavy workload for Leiter

While it is still not clear who was responsible for keeping Leiter off Team USA’s roster, it’s worth noting that his participation in the World Baseball Classic would not have placed significant stress on his arm. Grant reports that Leiter was expected to be used primarily during the opening phase of the tournament.

“Leiter, 25, was expected to be added as a piggy-back reliever, who likely would have appeared only in the first round for Team USA, which is scheduled to open the tournament March 6 against Brazil in Houston. It likely would have taken him away from the Rangers for at least one start, perhaps more,” Grant wrote.

Leiter finished the 2025 season with a 3.86 ERA, a strong mark that officially made it his best year as a starter. He appeared in 29 total games for the Rangers, marking his second MLB season alongside Seager.

Grant also notes that one possible reason Leiter could be out of the 2026 WBC picture is organizational change within the Rangers, including the arrival of a new manager, Skip Schumaker, and a new pitching coach. “This will be the first time Leiter will go to camp with the opportunity to simply prepare for his job, rather than trying to win a roster spot,” Grant wrote.

Brandon Nimmo’s departure from the New York Mets ultimately served as a strategic move to help extinguish a clubhouse fire in Texas involving Marcus Semien.
By trading Brandon Nimmo to Texas, the New York Mets not only acquired Marcus Semien, but also may have helped the Rangers resolve a difficult internal situation involving Corey Seager, according to a new report.

Joel Sherman recently detailed the situation in an article for The New York Post: “The Rangers felt the relationship between Marcus Semien and Corey Seager had become so toxic that they were willing to take Nimmo and $5 million from the Mets to move the three years and $72 million owed to Semien.”

The Rangers were not concerned about parting ways with their team captain. Their priority was putting an end to the ongoing drama surrounding Seager, one of the most important players on the roster, who finished the 2025 season with 103 hits, 21 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a .271 batting average.

Semien tried to keep the Rangers together

While Nimmo’s arrival in Texas came as a surprise, Semien had reportedly never stopped trying to bring his teammates closer together, as Colton Stites wrote for The Prospect Times.

“Marcus Semien, on the other hand, brought a high-energy, vocal presence to the clubhouse. Known for his durability (playing all 162 games in multiple seasons) and Gold Glove defense, Semien actively tried to foster team unity during 2025’s rough patches. As reported by DLLS Rangers insider Jeff Wilson, Semien organized several team get-togethers, but attendance was disappointingly low—often just a handful of players showed up.”

Last season, Semien appeared in 127 games for the Rangers, recording 108 hits, 15 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a .230 batting average in what became his fourth and final season in Texas alongside Seager.

“Tensions reportedly peaked late in the season, with an alleged remark from Semien to Seager about ‘talking a lot for someone who only played around 30 games,’ underscoring frustration over injuries and perceived uneven contributions,” Stites wrote

The Texas Rangers are willing to make aggressive, high-risk moves, sending five prospects to the Washington Nationals in a trade that brings them a young left-hander with four years of MLB experience.
The Texas Rangers have added a left-handed pitcher following a major trade with the Washington Nationals, sending five prospects, including Gavin Fien, to acquire MacKenzie Gore, who posted a 4.17 ERA last season.

The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman, who wrote, “Breaking: MacKenzie Gore traded to Rangers,” on X. It quickly became one of the most impactful trade stories of the day, especially with Texas parting ways with a third-base prospect who could have played a significant role in the team’s future.

According to Robert Murray on X, the Rangers sent Gavin Fien, Alejandro Rosario, Abimelec Ortiz, Devin Fitz-Gerald, and Yeremy Cabrera to Washington in exchange for Gore.

Was it a good or bad idea to let Gavin Fien go?

The Rangers parted ways with the No. 2–ranked prospect in their farm system, a player they drafted in 2025 and viewed as one of the organization’s future cornerstones. According to Talkin’ Baseball on X, none of the prospects sent to Washington are currently ranked inside MLB’s Top 100.

“What you need to know about new Nats prospect Gavin Fien: 12th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Fien isn’t the only name drawing attention. Jeff Passan also pointed out that another prospect included in the Gore deal is highly regarded. “A big return for the Nationals. Fien was the 12th pick last year. Evaluators love Fitz-Gerald,” Passan wrote on X.

Another prospect in the trade package is Rosario, who has dealt with an elbow injury. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young told David Laurila of FanGraphs in November 2025 that Rosario will not be able to play in 2026.

“Alejandro had an elbow injury and is going to miss all of next year as he recovers,” Young said. “We’re hoping to have him back in 2027, hopefully by spring training of 2027.”

https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/mackenzie-gore-to-the-rangers-whats-his-contract-after-trade-with-the-nationals

Mackenzie Gore is on the move as the Texas Rangers traded with the Washington Nationals to get his services.
The Texas Rangers landed a well-known lefty for next season, as they traded with the Washington Nationals to get MacKenzie Gore. Now that they have one of the most coveted pitchers on the market, let’s take a look at the contract he’ll have.

The news were broke by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. After, Robert Murray of Foul Territory indicated the Nationals gave up Gavin Fien, Alejandro Rosario, Abimelec Ortiz, Devin Fitz-Gerald and Yeremy Cabrer.

According to Spotrac, Mackenzie Gore will earn $5.6 million. Gore and the Nationals avoided arbitration a couple of weeks ago, when they agreed to a one-year deal. Now, two weeks later, he is headed to the Rangers to bolster their rotation.

Gore is looking for a bounce back season

The 27-year old had 30 starts in 2025 where he was hampered by an ankle injury that ended his season in September. Also, he had 4.17 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 185/64 strikeouts-to-base-on-balls ratio. He also had 5-15 record. The ERA could improve but Gore has never been an ERA leader. He did have a career-high in strikeouts. On the flip side, he led the majors in wild pitches for a second straight year.

MacKenzie Gore will look to put all of the pieces together in new threads!

He sat 95-96 MPH in 2025, albeit a little higher in the first half

With great extension and a complimentary arsenal, Gore’s ceiling is incredibly high

An aggressive-yet-clever addition for the Rangers! https://t.co/X9YiOUmxyP pic.twitter.com/1EZAR4CWSw
— High Leverage Baseball (@HighLevBaseball) January 22, 2026

Gore is a high-upside pitcher with an elite four-pitch mix and he has established himself like a strikeout artist. His curveball is very dominant and he also has a strong slider. His changeup is a swing-and-miss kind of throw. He brings a lot of heat to the mound.

Texas rotation is looking scary

While the Nationals used this trade to get five prospects, the Rangers are the ones getting a huge boost in their rotation. Looking at the names, the only thing stopping this rotation from becoming one of the MLB’s best is health.

According to reports, the Texas Rangers will be without a veteran pitcher who has joined the San Francisco Giants in MLB free agency.
After missing out on the playoffs once again last season, the San Francisco Giants are looking to reverse that image and return to the forefront of MLB. To achieve this, they have been making roster moves, and according to reports, they landed a veteran pitcher from the Texas Rangers during free agency.

“Tyler Mahle has agreed to a one-year deal with the Giants, per source. Physical is complete and the deal is done,” reported Mark Feinsand of MLB.com via his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Mahle arrives in San Francisco to join a rotation led by Logan Webb, where he can provide depth and experience to a Giants team looking to return to postseason contention.

The right-handed pitcher comes off a stint with the Texas Rangers, where he posted strong numbers despite his limited time on the mound. There, he recorded a career-best 2.18 ERA with a 6-4 record and 66 strikeouts over 86 2/3 innings across 16 starts.

Giants aim for a healthy Mahle next season

Injuries have plagued Mahle over the past few seasons, and the Giants are hopeful they can get him in peak form, as a healthy right-hander could be a major asset in 2026.

During the 2024 season, Mahle was only able to appear in three games for the Rangers while recovering from right elbow surgery and later suffering from right shoulder tightness. Additionally, during this past season, he was sidelined for about three months due to right shoulder fatigue, which limited him to just 16 appearances.

His previous tenure with the Minnesota Twins also fell well below expectations due to recurring injuries that kept him off the field for long stretches. During the 2022 season, he managed only four starts with the Twins before suffering right shoulder inflammation, which kept him out for the remainder of the year. 2023 saw no improvement for Mahle, who made only three starts before right arm posterior impingement and a flexor pronator strain forced him out again.

While Mahle’s injury history is certainly concerning, the Giants decided to take a gamble on the former Rangers pitcher since the risk of the deal is minimal, being only a one-year contract. Should he avoid any setbacks this season, Mahle could be a significant help to a San Francisco team looking to return to MLB relevance.

Corey Seager’s Texas Rangers are aiming to become the team to beat in the 2026 MLB season.
A few years have passed since their 2023 World Series victory, and the Texas Rangers have their sights set on rejoining the pack of contenders for the 2026 MLB season. Corey Seager needs talent around him, and reinforcements are slowly starting to arrive.

According to journalist Jeff Passan on X, the Rangers have agreed to bring in Alexis Diaz, the free-agent pitcher who was an All-Star during his time with the Cincinnati Reds. The right-handed reliever is joining Texas on a one-year contract.

Earlier, catcher Danny Jansen joined the team on a two-year, $14.5 million contract, as did left-hander Tyler Alexander, who also agreed to a one-year deal with the franchise.

Skip Schumaker’s team is looking to end a two-year streak of missing the playoffs, and surrounding Corey Seager with the best possible support could be one of the key factors in making that happen.

Alexis Díaz #43 of the Cincinnati Reds.

Diaz’s MLB numbers

Following his 2023 All-Star season with the Cincinnati Reds, closer Alexis Diaz faced a sharp decline in his subsequent MLB performance. The pitcher endured a tumultuous campaign, splitting time between the Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves across just 18 games.

His statistics highlighted the struggle, featuring a high 8.15 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP over only 17.2 innings pitched. Most concerning were the 16 earned runs and six home runs conceded, leading to an alarming 3.1 home runs per nine innings rate.

Despite these poor numbers, the Texas Rangers recently signed Diaz, making a clear bet that he can rebound to the reliable late-inning form he demonstrated in his earlier, more successful seasons.

Brandon Nimmo is packing his bags for Texas to join the Rangers, but before leaving, he sent a message about the trade, one that makes it clear he isn’t upset with the New York Mets.
Brandon Nimmo was one of those players who felt like part of the heart of the New York Mets fan base. Now, he’s no longer with the team. He’s heading to the Texas Rangers, and he recently said in a message that this trade is ultimately what’s best for the Mets.

“The Mets would not have brought this trade if they didn’t feel like it put the Mets in the best position to win going forward,” Nimmo said, speaking calmly and sounding fully aligned with the decision. “They made it very apparent that they weren’t actively shopping me but that the Rangers really, really, really wanted me.”

In the long message posted by SNY Mets, Nimmo admitted he’s starving to win a World Series. “I would not have waived the no-trade clause if I did not think that I could come here [Texas] and win and be a part of chasing that World Series.”

A World Series is at the center of Nimmo’s priorities

Among the many things Nimmo addressed, he emphasized twice how important winning a World Series is to him. He called it a major goal and made it clear that personal stats or franchise records, things that could’ve helped define a strong career with the Mets, were not what he truly wanted.

"We wanted to know that there was a willingness and a want, if we went to the Rangers, that they wanted to win.
“We wanted to know that there was a willingness and a want, if we went to the Rangers, that they wanted to win. That is my ultimate goal. The personal stuff, that’s all great, and I think it’s evident by this decision that there’s a solid chance that if I stay healthy, if I just kept producing — me and David Wright would’ve been pretty much the only ones that started and finished with the Mets. I could’ve had a pretty good chance of having the numbers in the rafters, but that’s not what it all means to me. I would honestly rather win a World Series.”

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb/brandon-nimmo-reportedly-struggled-with-his-mets-exit-as-new-details-come-to-light" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20251124_BUS_532911_brandon-nimmo-of-the-mets.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="Brandon Nimmo didn’t have an easy time deciding to leave the New York Mets. The organization asked whether he was willing to approve the move, and he then had to go through his own process before saying yes, but it was far from a simple decision.

Nimmo admits the trade caught him off guard

Fans wanted to know if Nimmo was upset by the trade. In his recent comments, he admitted it wasn’t something he saw coming. “It definitely took me as a shock. I was surprised to hear that.” And as previously reported, it took him several days to accept the move.

Nimmo also revealed he spoke with Jacob deGrom, his former Mets teammate until 2022. The pitcher helped him work through the decision, and according to Nimmo, he is “really, really excited” to have him in Texas. “I would not have waived the no-trade clause if I did not think that I could come here and win and be a part of chasing that World Series.”

But as he said himself, if the trade was truly what the Mets believed was best for their future, then that’s how he viewed it too. He accepted it as something that could benefit the organization.

President of Baseball Operations David Stearns spoke briefly about that “benefit,” saying cautiously, “I don’t know if it’s necessarily wanting to change the clubhouse dynamics. I think it’s a recognition that what we did last year wasn’t good enough and running back the exact same group wasn’t the right thing to do,” when asked whether moving Nimmo was meant to alter locker room chemistry.

"I will always remember the Mets fans fondly."

Brandon Nimmo talks about the outpouring of support he's gotten from Mets fans since news broke of him being traded to Texas: pic.twitter.com/CsWv5LCr9A
— SNY Mets (@SNY_Mets) November 24, 2025

Mets fans get one last message from Nimmo

Before heading to his new team, Nimmo made sure to say goodbye to the Mets fans who supported him through the years, from the minors to the majors. He thanked them for their loyalty and love.

“There is truly no way I could adequately put into words how much my tenure with the Mets has meant to me. All I can say is thank you. Thank you Mets fans for embracing and welcoming a kid from Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Big Apple. I always aspired to become a big leaguer—I never knew I’d have the opportunity to accomplish that dream in a city so wildly passionate about the game of baseball. The last 14 years have felt like a dream, and it has been an absolute honor to share them with you. You made me feel like family, and I hope you felt the same. I will always be grateful for our time and memories together. With love, always,” Nimmo wrote on Instagram.

The New York Mets strengthened their roster by acquiring an All-Star second baseman from the Texas Rangers, a major move designed to support Juan Soto and reshape their 2026 lineup.
The New York Mets made a significant statement this offseason by acquiring All-Star second baseman Marcus Semien from the Texas Rangers, a decisive move aimed at reinforcing the lineup around Juan Soto in exchange for longtime outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

Both teams enter the trade following difficult seasons: the Rangers missed the postseason in consecutive years since winning the 2023 World Series, while the Mets failed to reach the playoffs in Juan Soto’s first season.

“BREAKING: The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are finalizing a trade that would send second baseman Marcus Semien to the Mets and outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers, sources tell ESPN,” reported Jeff Passan. Nimmo waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the move, ending a decade-long tenure with the Mets.

Why did the Mets and Rangers make this trade?

The trade gives Semien a new home in New York, addressing a key infield need, while the Rangers add Brandon Nimmo, a 2015 first-round pick and longtime Met.

This is not the first major deal between the Rangers and Mets during the Steve Cohen era. In 2023, Texas acquired Max Scherzer from New York during their World Series run, with the Mets covering most of the contract while gaining top prospects.

For more than sixty years, the Texas Rangers have been a stage for both raw power and subtle mastery. From Ryan’s record seven no-hitters to Beltre’s 3,166 career hits, the franchise has seen athletes redefine the limits of skill.

Across decades, their legends have left marks beyond statistics. Gonzalez’s MVP seasons and Hamilton’s .359 batting average in 2010 tell stories of dominance, resilience, and the moments that made fans leap from their seats.

From pitchers who intimidated lineups to hitters who could change games in a swing, each profile reveals a blend of numbers, narrative, and the intangible spark that turned ordinary MLB seasons into unforgettable eras.

Adrian Beltre

Adrian Beltre (Source: J. Meric/Getty Images)

Adrian Beltre embodied quiet excellence. The Hall of Fame third baseman, who spent eight seasons with Texas (2011–2018), was the perfect balance of offensive firepower and defensive brilliance.

He combined Gold Glove defense with a rare mix of contact and power, ultimately surpassing 3,000 career hits and nearly 500 home runs. He retired as one of the most respected players of his generation, and his Rangers years cemented his legacy as the face of the franchise.

Juan Gonzalez

Juan Gonzalez (Source: Otto Greule Jr. /Allsport)

Juan Gonzalez was the face of the Rangers’ power surge in the 1990s. A two-time American League MVP (1996, 1998), he terrorized pitchers with his explosive bat, leading the league in home runs and RBIs multiple times.

He remains among the franchise leaders in home runs, RBIs, and extra-base hits, and his towering shots electrified Arlington Stadium like few others. For a generation of fans, “Juan Gone” defined Rangers baseball.

Josh Hamilton

Josh Hamilton (Source: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Josh Hamilton’s story was as much about redemption as raw talent. During his first stint with Texas (2008–2012), he became the centerpiece of a team that reached back-to-back World Series.

His 2010 MVP season, where he hit .359 with tremendous power, was a career peak, and he also delivered some of the most unforgettable moments in Rangers history, including his Home Run Derby heroics. Despite personal struggles, his impact in Arlington remains undeniable.

Ivan Rodriguez

Ivan Rodriguez (Source: Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Few catchers in MLB history combined defense and offense like Ivan Rodriguez. Debuting as a teenager in 1991, Pudge became the backbone of the Rangers for over a decade. He won the 1999 AL MVP while hitting .332 with power, and his cannon arm made base stealing nearly impossible. He captured 13 Gold Gloves in his career, the most ever by a catcher, and remains one of the most iconic figures to ever wear a Rangers uniform.

Rafael Palmeiro

Rafael Palmeiro (Source: Otto Greule/Getty Images)

Rafael Palmeiro was a model of offensive consistency during his years in Texas. The smooth-swinging first baseman delivered power and contact, surpassing both 500 career home runs and 3,000 hits.

In a Rangers uniform, he was a perennial threat in the middle of the order, producing RBIs year after year. Though his career was not without controversy, his production left a significant mark on the franchise record books.

Nolan Ryan

Nolan Ryan (Source: Rick Stewart/Getty Images)

Nolan Ryan was already a legend when he joined the Rangers in 1989, but his time in Texas only amplified his mythos. Even in his 40s, he threw no-hitters, racked up strikeouts, and intimidated hitters with his overpowering fastball.

His seven career no-hitters remain untouched, and he became the face of Texas baseball in the 1990s. Beyond numbers, his competitive fire and longevity made him a cultural icon in Arlington.

Michael Young

Michael Young (Source: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Michael Young was the steady heartbeat of the Rangers for more than a decade. Known for his reliability and versatility, he set franchise records in games played, hits, doubles, and at-bats.

He won the 2005 AL batting title, was selected to seven All-Star Games, and served as a quiet but respected leader during the Rangers’ rise to prominence. When Texas retired his number 10, it was a tribute to a career defined by professionalism and consistency.

Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez (Source: Brian Bahr/Getty Images)

Alex Rodriguez’s time with the Rangers was short but statistically jaw-dropping. Signing a then-record contract in 2001, A-Rod led the American League in home runs in each of his three Texas seasons.

He won the 2003 MVP award while hitting .298 with 47 home runs, despite the team’s struggles. Though his tenure was clouded by controversy and an eventual trade to the Yankees, his offensive production remains among the most dominant in franchise history.

Buddy Bell

Buddy Bell (Source: Baseball Hall of Fame)

Buddy Bell may not have boasted gaudy offensive numbers, but he provided stability and defensive excellence for the Rangers during the late 1970s and early ’80s. A five-time All-Star and six-time Gold Glove winner, he anchored the infield with his smooth glove work at third base. He was a respected clubhouse leader and remains one of the most underappreciated stars in Rangers history. His value was as much about presence as performance.

Ian Kinsler

Ian Kinsler (Source: Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Ian Kinsler was a spark plug for the Rangers during his eight seasons in Arlington (2006–2013). The second baseman combined power and speed, becoming one of the rare players to record multiple 30-30 seasons.

A three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, he contributed key offense during Texas’s World Series runs. His fiery competitiveness made him a fan favorite, and his induction into the Rangers Hall of Fame confirmed his impact on the franchise.

Elvis Andrus

Elvis Andrus (Source: Harry How/Getty Images)

Elvis Andrus broke into the majors as a 20-year-old shortstop in 2009 and quickly became the steady glove and spark for the Rangers. Known for his lightning speed and consistency, he holds the franchise record for stolen bases (305), and also ranks near the top in games played, at-bats, triples, runs, and hits.

Being a fixture “up the middle,” he anchored the defense in Texas’s back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010–11, and was inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame in 2025. His approach wasn’t always about flash—but rather doing everything well, becoming a foundational piece of Rangers history.

Ruben Sierra

Ruben Sierra (Source: Ronald Martinez /Allsport)

A power-bat and fan favorite in Rangers lore, Ruben Sierra delivered for Texas across multiple stints (mid-‘80s to early 2000s). He combined room-shaking home runs with high RBI totals and led the American League in several offensive categories, including in 1989 when he set franchise records for triples, RBIs, total bases, and extra-base hits.

He also claimed the AL Comeback Player of the Year in 2001 after returning to form as a designated hitter. Though his defense was less heralded, his offensive peaks and memorable moments make him one of the Rangers’ best.

Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers (Source: Getty Images)

As a pitcher, Kenny Rogers gave the Rangers some of their most unforgettable moments on the mound. Most famously, he threw a perfect game on July 28, 1994, becoming only the second Ranger to achieve that feat.

Beyond that singular gem, he was durable, a steady rotation presence, and a leader in big games. While his overall career had ups and downs, for Texas he is synonymous with clutch starts and strong veteran leadership in the rotation.

Charlie Hough

Charlie Hough (Source: Otto Greule /Allsport)

The “Texan Knuckleball” himself, Charlie Hough’s tenure with the Rangers is a story of reinvention and longevity. Originally a reliever with the Dodgers, he was purchased by Texas in 1980 and transitioned into a starting pitcher.

In his 30s, he found the knuckleball, and for over a decade he leaned on it heavily—at times almost exclusively—delivering extraordinary seasons: 40 starts in 1987, winning many games, throwing numerous complete games, and setting club records in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, and more. His style was unconventional, but his results earned him enduring respect.

Jim Sundberg

Jim Sundberg (Source: Baseball Hall of Fame)

Jim Sundberg was the prototype of a defensive catcher. From his debut in the mid-1970s until the late ’80s, he was among the best in the league at managing pitching staffs, throwing out base runners, and framing pitches—earning six Gold Gloves.

He was also an All-Star multiple times, and though his bat was never overpowering, his leadership, durability, and defensive excellence made him a cornerstone behind the plate for many Rangers seasons. His influence went beyond stats: pitchers trusted him, and he helped shape several pitching staffs into more competitive units.

Julio Franco

Julio Franco (Source: Otto Greule /Allsport)

Julio Franco’s career with the Rangers is a masterclass in longevity and hitting craft. In 1991, he won the first American League batting title in Rangers history, hitting .341 while putting up over 200 hits, stealing bases, and being a constant threat at the plate.

Even late into his career, he maintained high batting averages and a disciplined approach. His bat control, ability to adjust, and competitiveness carried him well beyond what many expected. He proves that age, when paired with skill and determination, can become one of baseball’s great stories.

Yu Darvish

Yu Darvish (Source: Rick Yeatts/Getty Images)

Yu Darvish arrived in Texas with big expectations in 2012—and mostly delivered. Already a star in Japan, he became a frontline starter for the Rangers: someone who could overpower hitters with a wide arsenal, strikeout specialists, and bring playoff hope.

In his first seasons, he led the AL in strikeouts, earned All-Star nods, came close in Cy Young voting, and turned in dominant stretches. His ability to miss bats, mix pitches, and handle high leverage innings made him one of the most feared arms in the Texas rotation during his time there.

Mark Teixeira

Mark Teixeira (Source: G. N. Lowrance/Getty Images)

Mark “Tex” Teixeira got his professional start with the Rangers after being taken in the first round in 2001. Over his five seasons in Texas (2003-2007), he matured into a gold-glove first baseman with power, becoming one of the young cornerstones of the lineup.

He blazed early, showing power at the plate, great defensive reliability at first base, and forming part of the core that the Rangers built around before trading him, in a blockbuster move, later in his career. Even though his best seasons came elsewhere, his foundational years in Arlington helped set the tone for what the Rangers could aspire to offensively and defensively.

Fergie Jenkins

Ferguson Jenkins (Source: Brad Newton-Pool/Getty Images)

Ferguson “Fergie” Jenkins brought to Texas a master’s command of the mound during his stint with the Rangers from 1974 through 1981. Already a Cy Young winner, he kept his reputation high with consistent performance—he racked up impressive strikeout totals, threw numerous shutouts, and was among the league’s top pitchers in wins and ERA when with Texas. His presence gave the Rangers not just wins, but legitimacy: having a Hall of Famer anchoring the rotation helped raise expectations for the franchise.

Rusty Greer

Rusty Greer was the kind of outfielder whose heart matched the hustle, and whose bat backed it up. Playing exclusively for the Rangers from 1994 to 2002, he hit over .300 multiple seasons, piled up extra-base hits, drove in runs, and became beloved for both his production and his style—diving catches, gritty at-bats, and clutch moments. He holds a career .305 batting average with Texas, and his consistency made him a fan favorite and a fixture in team lore.

Toby Harrah

Toby Harrah (Source: Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

Toby Harrah’s Rangers career spanned both shortstop and third base, and he became known as one of the franchise’s most versatile and durable infielders. Between the late 60s and mid-80s, he contributed offensively with power and batting average, made multiple All-Star appearances, and was recognized for his glove work.

His ability to adapt—both infield positions and roles—helped stabilize the Rangers during eras when consistency was rare. His longevity and multi-faceted contributions make him a vital piece of Ranger history.

Harold Baines

Harold Baines (Source: Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

Harold Baines’ time with the Rangers may not be the most season-packed of his long career, but it added meaningful texture to his legacy. Acquired in a trade from the White Sox in 1989, he brought his veteran bat and clutch hitting to Texas.

Even though he was primarily a designated hitter later, he showed flashes of power, hit for average, and remained one of the quieter but effective contributors among the team’s offense. His overall career numbers (nearly 2,900 hits, 384 home runs) make it obvious why he belongs among the top Rangers, even if his peak years occurred elsewhere.

Nelson Cruz

Nelson Cruz (Source: Harry How/Getty Images)

“Boomstick” Nelson Cruz joined the Rangers in mid-2006 and eventually became one of the most feared hitters in the American League during his time in Texas. He played a key role in the Rangers’ 2010 and 2011 AL pennant runs, showing power, clutch homering, and an ability to deliver in big moments.

He posted solid slash lines, accumulated impressive WAR, and contributed leadership as the team competed for world titles. His offense provided an edge when it mattered, and his Rangers period is among his most celebrated.

Johnny Oates

Johnny Oates (Source: Rick Stewart/ALLSPORT)

Johnny Oates earned his place among the best for having transformed the Rangers identity as their manager. Taking over in 1995, he led the club to its first ever postseason appearance (1996), and repeated that success in 1998 and 1999, claiming AL West titles each time.

His leadership helped rally a team that had long struggled to find footing in the playoff picture. Though postseason success was limited, his role in laying a foundation, forging culture, and ultimately having his number retired (#26) make him more than just a manager — a significant architect of Rangers’ rise.

Dean Palmer

Dean Palmer (Source: Al Bello/ALLSPORT)

Dean Palmer was the go-to third baseman for the Rangers through much of the 1990s. Though he sometimes faced criticism for high strikeout totals, he delivered power—he had multiple 30-plus home run seasons with Texas—along with steady run production and occasional clutch moments.

He also provided a reliable glove at the hot corner and was part of the offensive core during Texas’ ascent toward postseason contention. His impact in the lineup solidified third base as one of his strongest positions in franchise history.
