“I’m excited. I really think he has an extremely high floor. I think it’s one of the highest floors because he can do everything. And I’m excited to see where that ceiling is because this is someone that since he first put on a helmet has had to deal with pressure because he’s a Manning,” Tebow said on the SEC Network’s The Paul Finebaum Show.

He also added: “And then, with all of the hype, it’s just compounded. But I think he’ s handled it extremely well. His first couple of years at Texas, he said the right things, he’s done the right things. He’s stepped in and played really well when he’s gotten the opportunity, but he also does everything at least well.

“He runs the football, and he can run physically; he can run for speed. He throws it accurately, he’s got a strong arm – it’s probably not the strongest in the country – but he’s someone that there’s nothing, when you look at his skill set, that I don’t think he does well. Now we’ll see how he’s able to lead with all the pressure, but he’s someone that I believe could be really good to great.”

“I think you’re going to see some changes in the offense. You’ll see more on third-and-short, giving Arch the ability to use his legs. I think you’ll see a little more read in there, not a lot because you don’t want to get him hurt, but just enough to keep the defense off balance because he adds a different element into this game.”

Newton has made a very strong case to be crowned as the best of all time. His college journey was a rollercoaster in itself. Newton enrolled for the University of Florida and was a part of the 2008 Gators football team that went on to become BCS national champions, grabbing headlines nationwide along the way for non-football related topics.

After a short and often forgotten transfer to Blinn College, a JUCO school in Texas, in 2009, Newton committed to the University of Auburn, where his career would skyrocket. His junior-year, Newton took college football by storm. As the Tigers won the BCS National Championship against Oregon, Newton finished a Heisman season with out-of-this-world numbers.

In 2010, Newton threw 2,854 yards, 30 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 14 games. Moreover, he rushed for 1,473 yards on the ground, totalling 20 rushing touchdowns, he would also add a receiving score to highlight a historic season, one that may never be replicated again. Newton won the Heisman in 2010 and later went on to become an NFL MVP in 2015, joining an elite group of players to accomplish both feats.

Like Manziel, Tim Tebow was given a catchy nickname, showcasing his immense popularity across the country. Dubbed “TebowMania,” the quarterback made a strong case for the GOAT conversation with his career in Gainesville.

While Newton had a magical 2010 season, Tebow’s consistency and longevity during his time at Florida may give him the upper hand. Newton only started for one season, whereas Tebow was a starter for three of his four years, with the exception of his freshman year. Even as a backup, however, he was part of the 2006 national championship-winning Gators team.

A two-time Maxwell Award winner and one-time Heisman Trophy recipient, along with a top-3 finish in another year, Tebow was a dominant force in college football. During his Heisman season in 2007, he posted staggering numbers: 3,286 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions, while also adding 895 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns.

Unresolved

The debate is endless, and to each their own. Vince Young, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Reggie Bush—the list could go on forever. Fans of different schools will always have differing opinions and will never reach a consensus on who the greatest was.

Moreover, there is no definitive evidence to crown one undisputed GOAT. Thus, it’s largely based on perception, personal preference, and strong statistical backing—though even those can be contested.

Year after year, college football sees superstars emerge, and while many players put on sensational seasons—perhaps due to nostalgia—they don’t seem to match the legacies left behind by greats like Newton, Manziel, and Tebow.

Coming into the season the talk around Coach Sark’s team was centered on their QB room and how the staff would handle their duo of star quarterbacks. Due to an unfortunate injury, the Longhorns have seen much more from Arch Manning than they expected to during the summer. Tim Tebow believes the program has handled the competition at the position to perfection and made a bold affirmation on Steve Sarkisian.

“Arch is very comfortable in whatever is called and he should be because Coach Sark is maybe the best to do it right now in play calling,” Tebow said, per Sporting News. “I think Sark is to college what Kyle Shanahan is to the NFL right now, and he just looks comfortable to me.”

The Texas Longhorns will kick off their SEC schedule on September 28th when they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs announced freshman QB Michael Van Buren Jr will call the shots at the huddle. However, the biggest storyline ahead of the matchup remains unresolved.

“We’re going to decide on the quarterback thing tomorrow (Friday),” Sarkisian said, via On3. “It won’t be a secret. We’re not trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. Just want to give Quinn every opportunity to see if he’s ready to play and what he looks like. I’d say he’s improved every day. I think Arch has had a very good week.”

Regardless of who is at the helm for the Longhorns, Texas expects their quarterbacks to lead them to victory over the crestfallen Bulldogs. Mississippi State views this matchup as the perfect opportunity to turn their season around as they currently hold a 1-3 record in the NCAA with their future looking gloomy.

Tebow believes Ewers is the guy for the Longhorns right now. And so does the team. Despite Quinn’s injury, Sarkisian has confirmed Manning is not expected to start as long as Ewers is healthy. Nevertheless, Manning’s skills have impressed and exceeded expectations, which were already set to the standard of a five-star recruit and a young quarterback who shares blood with Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning. To say the bar was set high would be an understatement.

“I think Arch has played extremely well, not just well, but excellent to elite. He really has. He’s done so many things, whether it’s been accuracy or poise, decision making, ball placement, athleticism, so many things well, but with all that said, I do not think there’s a quarterback controversy.”

Manning’s great play has been a positive note for Sarkisian’s team. Manning’s entrance to the huddle is not counter-productive on the offense’s showing. And it can even help Ewers. The starting QB can feed off the competition. Pressure makes diamonds, iron sharpens iron. It seems any way the Longhorns go, they cannot go wrong. As many other NCAA programs struggle at the QB department, Texas’ problem is a beautiful one to have.

Florida Gators was the team where Tebow played during his college years, from 2006 to 2009, three years as a starter that were almost perfect under Urban Meyer. His college stats were the ones that caught the attention of multiple NFL teams, but there were doubts about him.

Tim was a super star quarterback with the Gators, three years as a starter from 2007 to 2009 with a passing percentage of over 64.5% in most of his seasons and in his last college season with 70.1%. Tim Tebow may have not accomplished a full return to the NFL, but at least he had a shot in a strange position for him and was part ofthe Jaguars camp for a couple of months.

Recently, some people have questioned whether Tim Tebow should have gotten another shot at the league after nearly a decade away from the game, citing that he’s taking a roster spot from a young player and even comparing him to Dez Byrant and other African American players.

Urban Meyer Says The Jaguars Haven’t Signed Tebow (Yet)

That’s why Jaguars new coach Urban Meyer – who happened to coach Tebow during his time with the Gators – had to clear the air in an interview with Cris Collinsworth, saying that the team hasn’t made a decision on signing him… yet:

“We have not signed Tim.There’s a thought going around. He was in the best shape of his life, asked to see if he could work out with a couple of our coaches. I wasn’t even there,” Meyer told Collinsworth.

“And they came back to me and said, ‘Wow, this guy’s in incredible shape.’ Then I went another time and watched them try him out. And they said, ‘Go work on these things.’ He comes back later. They try him out again, I’m not there. They came in and they said, ‘Wow. This guy’s ball skills. He’s a great athlete. He looks like he’s 18 years old not whatever he is, 33. And I said, ‘Guys, you don’t understand, now. This guy is, he’s the most competitive maniac you’re ever gonna talk to. And let’s give it a shot. And I have not decided if we’re gonna do that or not yet. Getting close. I gotta make a decision here pretty soon,“ he added.

To be fair, some players seem to have a valid point. Aldon Smith couldn’t make a comeback, neither could Collin Kaepernick, and Dez Bryant had a tough time getting teams to even work him out.

This is not a shot at Tim Tebow, who I believe is a good guy and has every right in the world to try and make a comeback and fulfill his dream but I get where the complaints are coming from, given how the league has dealt withblack athletes in the past.

For years, people around the league tried to convince Tebow to shift positions from quarterback to tight end. That, according to most experts, would’ve helped prolong his career in the league but he never wanted to give up on his dream.

That’s why it was so surprising to see that, 9 years after his last snap in the NFL and after a failed stint with the New York Mets farm system, the former Heisman winner has finally come to his senses and worked out as a tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tony Khan Says Urban Meyer Is Optimistic About Tim Tebow

The fact that he chose the Jaguars among all teams isn’t a coincidence, though, as he’s still a pretty popular figure there for his glorious days at the University of Florida where he was also coached by Meyer.

And, according to team owner’s son Tony Khan, the team has been quite impressed with Tebow’s workouts thus far, as he told Bleacher Report that they’re very likely to sign him as their new tight end:

“Tim has definitely come in and worked out,” Khan said. “So beyond that, I can’t say too much, but Tim has come in and worked out as a tight end. That’s not a position that we’ve seen him play, but it’s a position that he’s been practicing at with us. So that will be interesting to see how that contributes to us on offense, too. Obviously Urban knows Tim really well and Tim has got a great history of winning. Urban really believes he can help us, and I think it makes a lot of sense. And it’s a position where we need to get better.”

There’s no doubt that Tebow was one of the most disappointing players in NFL history. He dominated college football like no many other quarterbacks ever did. But he’s always been a nice guy, so all jokes aside, we’re actually rooting for him.
