Historically a league which has not had many Americans, this season that changes with four of the best USMNT players playing in Serie A and for two of the league’s top clubs.

Serie A has been home to Alexi Lalas, Michael Bradley, and Gianluca Busio. Now it has one of the best American soccer talents ever, here are the four USMNT players in Serie A for 2023/2024.

Americans in Serie A

The biggest name belongs to AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic, who is looking to have a breakout season after a tough spell at Chelsea where he won 3 titles. Pulisic’s teammate will be Yunus Musah, recently transferred from Valencia in LaLiga where he played over 100 matches.

Over to Juventus two of the most electric and eccentric national teamers play for the Italian Old lady. Tim Weah, son of the legendary George Weah, seems to be playing wing back and did very well in preseason.

Then Weston McKennie returns to Juve after a horrific loan spell at Leeds United. McKennie has always flourished under Massimiliano Allegri, and when transfer rumors appeared in the end McKennie was one of Juventus better players in preseason.

From lack of minutes, injuries, and low level of play some of the USMNT’s best players could not maintain the high level they showed at the FIFA World Cup. Then there are cases like Tyler Adams who had an exceptional season for Leeds but with the club now relegated a lot of question marks surround his future.

Here is a list of some of the USMNT stars that will be seeking a summer transfer, many of them already have potential suitors, finding the right place will be key as the Golden Generation of US Soccer players enter the most important part of their careers.

Christian Pulisic

The best player of the program had a disastrous poor season, playing 30 games and scoring 1 goal. Pulisic was reduced to junk minutes after the World Cup, he saw managers come and go at Chelsea and never cemented himself at the club due to injuries or coaching decisions. Nonetheless Pulisic did score 26 goals in 142 games, winning three titles at the club.

When on, Pulisic was a menace to opposing defenses with his speed and dribbling. The problem is it came in spurts, with rumors of interest from Serie A clubs, Atlético Madrid, Newcastle, and Manchester United, Pulisic can still be a major factor for a top club in Europe. The drawback will be his high salary and transfer fee. Chelsea is rumored to be willing to go as low as $50 million for the winger, but Pulisic reportedly earned near $10 million in wages at Chelsea and may need to take a pay cut to make a move happen to a club outside the Premier League.

Editor’s wish: Pulisic would be a massive upgrade at AC Milan and could be vital at Atlético Madrid if he stays healthy.

Tyler Adams

Make no mistake, Adams was Leeds United’s best player, or at least the club’s most consistent. Adams also had a sensational World Cup for the USMNT, now that Leeds is relegated the club reportedly has a 30-million-pound relegation clause in his contract. Maybe a Premier League club will go for broke and trigger the clause, then again Adams has always had interest from Sevilla in LaLiga, who could take the midfielder on loan and then trigger a transfer after the fact.

Editor’s wish: You go where they want you, Sevilla have long been keeping tabs on Adams, and Adams’ game looks suited for Spain.

Sergiño Dest

After two massive fails at Barcelona and AC Milan, Dest would be wise to pick his next destination carefully. All signs point to a move to Union Berlin, which is a club on the rise and has lesser expectations than at Barcelona and Milan. Dest when confident is a very good attacking wing back, his defending is shotty at best. It could be Dest’s last chance to play for important clubs at Union Berlin.

Editor’s wish: Go to Union Berlin, avoid the big club, Dest is not ready for big club games yet.

Tim Weah

Tim Weah had a very good World Cup for the United States and a very solid season for Lille. The problem is that at Lille, Weah is a wing back. Weah was born to race down the wing and score goals. Weah has proven himself in France and there are rumors of a move to Serie A, if he can find a club that is willing to place him in the attacking third it would be a wise step up.

Editor’s wish: Udinese had sniffed around in the winter for Weah, a move to a club like that would be a good fit for the speedy winger.

Yunus Musah

The steady midfielder is only 20 and was a bright spot for Valencia in the last two seasons. Musah has a lot to offer a club, still needing to finish the final product, Musah has proven he has outgrown Valencia. With rumors of moves to big clubs, Musah must be careful to not land on a team that will reduce his minutes considerably.

Editor’s wish: Inter Milan has been interested and looks like a great landing spot for Yunus Musah. A deep squad but not deep enough where he won’t get important minutes.

Weston McKennie

In one of the worst decisions by a player in a long time, Weston McKennie left Juventus as a starter and key contributor to play for one of the worst teams in the Premier League. The loan was a complete disaster, everything that made McKennie standout at Juventus was exposed at Leeds, McKennie is effective when he has quality around him. Now back at Juventus it’s hard to imagine major Premier League clubs will be interested in McKennie, Juventus is losing many players on free transfers and sales, Weston McKennie could still be a vital piece again if he stays.

Editor’s wish: Stay at Juventus get yourself back to your best game and then both the club and your people will seek a move.

Ricardo Pepi

One of the few players to have a standout season, Pepi was all aces at FC Groningen, the club on the other hand weren’t and that is what makes Pepi standout even more scoring 12 goals for a poor team. With interest from PSV and Feyenoord all signs point a big move to a top club in the Netherlands.

Editor’s wish: Get that big move to PSV or Feyenoord, light it up in the Eredivisie, get that major move to a top 5 league two years down the road.

Still, for some reason, some due to injuries some do to the pecking order Tim Weah has found consistent starting minutes wanting at Lille as well as stints at Celtic and PSG. Still, leaving a good impression but not truly cracking the starting XI at all three clubs.

Feeling that a good World Cup could be a launching pad and playing sparingly since returning from Qatar, Weah has interest from Everton in the Premier League according to The Boot Room and teams in LaLiga.

Everton in for Tim Weah

According to The Boot Room, Everton, who are in desperate need of help up top could try to sign Weah at a bargain $16 million transfer fee from Lille. At Lille Weah has played 85 times and scored 8 goals winning the French League and Trophée des Champions at the club.

Weah also has interest from Sevilla in Spain as well as Premier League sides Fulham and Brighton, but no formal offers have been sent. At one point it was rumored that Weah also had interest from Valencia in Spain but that deal also did not materialize. For Weah the time is now to make a move with his World Cup performances fresh in the mind of many teams.

Tim Weah at 22 has had a healthy career winning 8 championships at PSG, Celtic, Lille, and the USMNT, where he has 4 goals in 29 caps.

Tim Weah was born in Brooklyn, New York where his famous father owned a home, George always mentioned his love for New York, way back during his AC Milan days. George Weah would become known as one of the greatest African soccer players ever.

George Weah also is considered one of the greatest soccer players never to play a World Cup, his son Tim did one better not only did he play in a World Cup he scored a typical goal his father would have against Wales.

Like his father Tim Weah played for PSG, and despite rave reviews the young Weah would see limited playing time and was loaned to Celtic before being sold to Lille. Like his dad Weah has won titles, 7 titles in his short career.

George Weah is currently the President of Liberia, his country of birth, and was photographed with his son after the USMNT game against Wales. Tim Weah has 2 other direct siblings and a half sibling from father George’s previous relationship.

Gio Reyna is 20 and currently playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Reyna is now in his fourth season as a professional with 12 goals in 93 games for the German club. Along the way Reyna is considered one of the best young prospects in the world with rumors of him being monitored by Real Madrid.

Tim Weah, is soccer royalty, the eccentric but talented winger burst onto the scene playing with Neymar and Edinson Cavani at PSG, and more than held his own scoring 1 goal in 5 games as a young talent. Now Weah is at Lille in France but both Reyna and Weah have binds to the game that date back to their fathers.

Reyna also established himself as a talented American abroad playing in Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, Rangers, Sunderland, Manchester City, before ending his career in MLS with the New York Red Bulls.

Reyna’s best soccer came during his years at Rangers where he won the Scottish league and cup. Reyna played on a Rangers team which featured Argentine Claudio Caniggia and Netherlands star Giovanni van Bronckhorst, after whom Gio was named. Soccer runs deep in the family of Gio Reyna his mother Danielle Egan was capped 6 times by the USWNT and his grandfather Miguel Reyna, was from Argentina where he played professionally for Los Andes.

Tim Weah is the son of former PSG and AC Milan striker George Weah. Weah was known for his speed, work-rate, stamina, and attacking instincts, as well as his physical and athletic attributes, Weah, who played for Liberia, had an amazing club career but sadly could never play in a World Cup.

Weah, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1995, scored 18 goals in 75 games for Liberia, he was named African player of the year on three occasions. Weah won 11 titles in his career and today is the President of Liberia.

The new Crystal Palace defender is sporting a hoodie and keeping it urban and is all smiles. Chris Richards is a talented defender who was spotted and debuted for Bayern Munich in Germany, now he is taking his skills to the Premier League.

Jordan Pefok

The new Union Berlin man is trying to send his coach a statement that he wants to be the USMNT’s go-to forward come the World Cup. Pefok has scored goals in the Champions League, Switzerland, and now in Germany. It’s hard to ignore that potential on the field and off he knows how to rock a combination.

Ricardo Pepi

Pefok has competition in Ricardo Pepi who was sold from MLS to Germany for $20 million. Pepi is all business in a suit and will look to return to his scoring touch in his second season in the Bundesliga.

Matt Turner

New Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner is as smooth as they come with a nice suit and sneakers. Turner at the moment is the USMNT’s number one in goal but will need to get minutes to solidify his place in Qatar.

Considered by many to be one of the best dressed on the team Weston McKennie knows how to rock a suit just as well as he does urban and casual wear. McKennie has a grade A personality and that shows off in his clothing.

Timothy Weah

The best dressed player on the USMNT is Timothy Weah, son of the great AC Milan forward George Weah, who is now the president of Liberia, Weah has earned his style points, be it on the field or off where he rocks urban, suits, and rap wear with ease. As stylish as they come is the speedy winger.

This season a record 12 USMNT players will be a part of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Last season Christian Pulisic became the second American to win European Soccer’s biggest club prize. Now players like Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie, and Sergiño Dest will want to continue to make history by becoming the third American to do so.

Gregg Berhalter can’t complain, he has some of his most important players playing at the highest level. Sergiño Dest

Sergiño Dest had a lot of growing pains last season at Barcelona, this season is an opportunity to show that he has the talent and the perseverance to maintain a starting spot at Barcelona. Barcelona will be without Messi, and while the club has seen better days, Dest can still shine if he corrects some of the issues that plagued him last season.

Weston McKennie

Weston McKennie was a bright spot for Juventus last season, now in his second season what kind of role will he have? That question will be answered by Massimiliano Allegri. McKennie can play at this level no question, hopefully Allegri will find a spot for the box-to-box midfielder.

Owen Otasowie

Owen Otasowie recently signed with Club Brugge of Belgium after playing just 6 games with Wolverhampton Wanderers. At 20, Otasowie seems to have a good future ahead of him, but if he wants to crack the USMNT, getting a starting spot at Brugge and good Champions League outings will be essential.

Jordan Siebatcheu

After a great season with Young Boys on loan last season and a big goal against Honduras in the Nations League semifinal, Jordan Siebatcheu is already off to a fast start this seasonwith 2 goals in 3 games in Switzerland.

Christian Pulisic

Last season’s Champions League winner, Christian Pulisic wants to continue to show why he is the USMNT poster boy. Pulisic already scored a goal in his first game of the Premier League season and will want to hold down a starting spot for Chelsea this season.

Gio Reyna

Gio Reyna had an up and down season at Dortmund last year but showed his capacity to win his starting spot back last season, while showing the talents that have him pegged as one of the best young prospects in the world. Reyna will look for this season to be his official coming out party.

Chris Richards

Chris Richards will be in the Bayern Munich squad this season, just how much he will play will depend on many factors, nonetheless it will be a season of invaluable experience.

Zack Steffen

Zack Steffen is Manchester City’s back up goalkeeper, hopefully Guardiola will give Zack some Champions League minutes. Steffen’s chances of playing are slim unless an injury occurs.

Tim Weah

The French champion will be able to showcase his skill in the Champions League, like his father before him. Tim Weah is often used as a bench option and his goal will be to be a consistent starter for Lille.

Now all eyes point to the first week of the season where the 20 team French League will crown a new champion by May of 2022. Saint-Étienne has won the most titles with 10, while PSG has been the most dominating team of French soccer winning seven of their nine titles in the last decade.

Tim Weah

Tim Weah has been in Ligue 1 the longest, the speedy American winger started his career with PSG in 2018 where he played 15 games and scored 4 goals. After a stint in Scotland, Weah returned to Ligue 1 with Lille in 2019 where he has been used as a sub more often than not.

Weah has 31 games and 3 goals in league play and has won two titles so far in his French return, a league and French Super Cup. Weah will look to finally break into the Lille starting lineup.

Konrad de la Fuente

Konrad de la Fuente has yet to play a professional league match but did make two Champions League appearances for Barcelona last season. de la Fuente began his career with Barcelona in 2018, he moved to Olympique de Marseille in June of 2021.

Konrad as he is known, started well for his new club scoring a goal in preseason and will look to crack the starting squad this season. At the moment he is in a better situation than he was at Barcelona. de la Fuente has 1 cap for the USMNT.

It’s hard not to argue that the U.S. has talent in every position, and this will make Gregg Berhalter’s job a bit easier knowing his top talents are playing meaningful minutes in these competitive leagues. Players like Duane Holmes and Julian Green may be in the second divisions, but can also be used as good role players when called upon.

Fielding a starting 11 is always hard, especially when you have options in each position. Some players will be left out, but there are 11 key players in Europe the USMNT hope continueto develop and lead the team back to the 2022 World Cup.

Goalkeeper – Zack Steffen – Manchester City

While Zack Steffen is not starting at Manchester City, he has already played in a cup game and the day in and day out training for a top club make it hard to argue there is another goalkeeper ahead of him in the pool.

Right Back – Reggie Cannon – Boavista

Reggie Cannon was already one of the best right-backs in MLS when he was sold to Boavista in Portugal, since his arrival, he has started every game and will be one of the main options for the U.S. Defense.

Defender – John Brooks – Wolfsburg

Brooks has been in the Bundesliga since the start of his career, the 2014 World Cup hero is entering the prime of his career. He has been a bit inconsistent when playing for the U.S. buthis performances in league play have been very good.

Defender – Chris Richards – Bayern Munich

Chris Richards has yet to claim a place in the Bayern first team, but coach Hans-Dieter Flick has praised him and has inserted him in some games. If he can continue to develop, he will challenge for a starting spot.

Left Back – Sergiño Dest – Barcelona

Sergiño Dest has had a rollercoaster ride to the top of European soccer. In oneyear he started playing for Ajax, got his first USMNT cap, and is set for a record move to Barcelona. Dest has shown his talent and is considered one of world soccer’s best young prospects.

Midfielder – Tim Weah – Lille

The multipurpose midfielder is coming back from injury and has shown flashes of what he can do at Celtic and PSG. He will need to stay healthy, but Weah has the energy and talent to be a key figure for the USMNT.

Midfielder – Weston McKennie – Juventus

Since his move to Juventus, Weston McKennie has only added to his rising stock. He was one of FC Schalke 04 best players last season and already has received positive marks in Italy. He is one of the new leaders of the U.S. team.

Midfielder – Tyler Adams – R. B. Leipzig

Adams is one of the U.S. most consistent European based players, he has grown in each season since his move to Germany. The key is for Adams is to avoid injury, despite some amazing performances his seasons are cut short due to injury.

Midfielder – Christian Pulisic – Chelsea

The new Landon Donovan, the man who everyone will look too to lead the squad. Pulisic is yet to debut this season, butlast year he was the best player for Chelsea, that can’t be argued. He completely dominated in a game against Liverpool and scored some amazing goals. The hopes of the USMNT rest on Pulisic.

Midfielder – Gio Reyna – Borussia Dortmund

Like his father before him, Reyna looks set to be the new USMNT set up man. His quick passing and field vision will look to open up spaces for speedsters Pulisic and Weah. Reyna started his season strong as he looks to break out for Dortmund.

Forward – Josh Sargent – Werder Bremen

The USMNT weakest position by far is forward. Sargent is young, but he plays on a dreadful Bremen side. With little options besides Sargent, the U.S. will hope that he finally starts scoring for his club. At the national team level, Sargent does have 5 goals in 12 games.
