With the assurance that he will remain in office until 2024, an extension that has already been signed and announced since November 2018, Manfred has been free to act as he sees fit despite the controversies his actions have generated in MLB, such as when he influenced the pace of play after reducing the time of commercial breaks or limiting player visits to the pitcher’s mound.

The management of the 63-year-old New York native has not been easy, as he has faced strong turbulences, such as the Covid 19 pandemic, until the lockout of the 2021-2022 season, a situation that had not occurred since the 1994-1995 cycle and that left the world with the uncertainty of being able to stay a long time without the excitement of the MLB for a few months.

Banned under commissioner Rob Manfred

It may well be a mere coincidence, a coincidence, or a consequence of Manfred’s way of proceeding, but during his tenure he has surpassed the number of banned individuals that Bud Selig, Fay Vincent, A. Bartlett Giamantti and Bowie Kuhn had.

Thus, only during the period as commissioners of Kenesaw Mountain Landis and during the period with no one in this position, which has been in place since 1920, were there more bannings than there have been with Rob Manfred. Chris Correa

The former scouting director of the St. Louis Cardinals was banned in 2017 for hacking into the Houston Astros‘ database and providing it to his team. Correa was subsequently jailed for 3 years for the crime of unauthorized access to a private individual’s computer equipment.

John Coppolella

Coppolella served as general manager of the Atlanta Braves from October 2015 until his banned in 2017, after joining the team in 2006 as director of baseball operations, due to his violation of MLB rules regarding the signing and hiring of international free agents.

Brandon Taubman

He fulfilled his dream of working in the MLB by being hired by the Houston Astros in 2013 after applying through an ad posted on FanGraphs. However, his idyll with baseball was relatively short-lived when he was banned in 2019 for uttering inappropriate comments to female journalists.

Roberto Alomar

A former MLB player who was even inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. His suspension from commissioner Manfred’s administration in 2021 came after an independent investigation for harassing a female Toronto Blue Jays staff member in 2014.

Mickey Callaway

A leaked media article exposed Callaway’s sexual harassment behaviors throughout his MLB career, which included stints as pitching coach of the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels, as well as manager of the New York Mets.He was banned in March 2021.

Trevor Bauer

The longest ban sentence known so far and since the implementation of the domestic violence policy (324 games), which empowers the commissioner to suspend individuals who have committed such acts despite the lack of a conviction. The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher was accused by a woman of physically and sexually assaulting her twice.

MLB put the Los Angeles Dodgers staron administrativeleave on July 2, 2021 after a woman who accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her twice requested to file a restraining order against him. The woman in question claimed he choked her until leaving her unconscious, punched her multiple times and had sex with her without her consent. The restraining order request was denied, though, while Bauer and his camp denied all the allegations. On February 8, the Los Angeles County district attorneys office stated Bauer would not face criminal charges.

But even withhis legal matters cleared, the league could still hand him a suspension, which is what eventually happened. On Friday, the MLB has announced that Trevor Bauer wouldface one of the longest suspensions of all time.

Trevor Bauer has received a 324-game suspension – the equivalent of two regular seasons -without pay from MLB for violating its joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy after carrying out an investigation of their own into the sexual assault allegations.

Bauer’s two-year suspension is the longest a baseball player has ever received in the seven-year history of the policy. The Dodgers star, who is under contract for $32m in 2022and 2023, will be the first one to appeal the punishment.

“In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy. I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives and I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings,“ Bauer tweeted.

On Monday, Bauer filed suit against his accuser for defamation. The Dodgers pitcher was linked to another scandal last year when a Washington Post report claimed that a woman in Ohio wanteda temporary order of protection against Bauer in June 2020. Bauer denied those allegations as well, claiming she assaulted him instead.

Even though he has notfaced criminal charges for the sexual assault accusations, they have certainly harmed his reputation, which is why he will continue to battle against them until heclears his name.

The woman in question was denied a permanent restraining order against the pitcher after she had stated she met Bauer in April and he had physically and sexually assaulted her on two occasions. On July 2nd the MLB put the pitcher on administrative leave and all items with the likeness of Bauer were removed by the Dodgers team store.

The MLB has begun their own investigation into the incident but that was all put on hold with the offseason lockout and there is no determination as to when Bauer will be allowed to play. Now Bauer and his legal team are taking matters into their own hands.

On Monday Bauer filed suit against the woman claiming defamation and tortious interference, while also stating the San Diego woman is looking for monetary gain from the incident. The Dodgers pitcher’s lawyer claims the woman, “fabricated allegations of sexual assault,” “pursued bogus criminal and civil actions,” “made false and malicious statements” and “generated a media blitz based on her lies” in an effort to “destroy” Bauer’s reputation as per an ESPN report.

The story has become extremely graphic in regard to what went on between the woman and Bauer in their intimacy. What happened after could very well help clear Bauer’s name if proven that the woman sent text messages to her friends where she “bragged about a payout” and altered key evidence.

This is not the first time Bauer has been involved in a scandal like this, in 2021 a Washington Post investigation uncovered that a woman from Ohio also had filed a temporary order of protection in June 2020 against Bauer. The woman had accused Bauer of physical assault in 2017 and even claimed to have received death threats from the pitcher.

Bauer has denied these claims as well and stated that the Ohio woman had assaulted him and harassed him instead.

Bauer was forced to watch his team from the sidelines after a woman filed for a restraining order against him. She claimed Bauer sexually assaulted him but evidence showed it was all consensual.

But even though he stayed silent for months, the controversial hurler kept receipts while in the shadows. That’s why he didn’t hesitate to pursue legal action against The Athletic and their former writer Molly Knight for alleged defamation.

“In the lawsuit against Knight and The Athletic, Bauer’s attorneys claim that Knight and The Athletic ‘defamed Mr. Bauer by creating and spreading the false narrative that Mr. Bauer fractured the Complainant’s skull.’

‘There was no basis for that assertion because the Complainant’s own medical records — which The Athletic possessed — showed that she had no such fracture,’ the suit continues. ‘Nonetheless, consistent with their prior and subsequent expressions of animus toward Mr. Bauer, The Athletic and Ms. Knight publicized that false attack, which was picked up and further disseminated to a larger audience by other media outlets and social media sites.’

The suit also cited tweets from Knight that referred to the accuser’s skull as ‘cracked’ or ‘fractured.’

‘Defendants acted with actual malice because they deliberately ignored the truth — which was evident in the medical records possessed by The Athletic — and because the Defendants’ defamatory statements were part of a campaign to harass Mr. Bauer, as evidenced by, among other actions, their prior and subsequent false and misleading statements about his conduct and character, their efforts to dissuade Major League Baseball teams from signing him, and their strident complaints about the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to add him to their team.'”

Bauer and his camp have always been quite eager to defend his name so it’s unlikely that he’ll drop the lawsuit. He knows his reputation took a big hit and has proven to be willing to go the extra mile to make everybody pay for that.

Bauer is involved in a domestic assault scandal that isn’t going to go away any time soon. Albeit the judge denied his demandant’s request for a restraining order, MLB and the MLBPA can -and will- carry their own investigation to determine a punishment.

Due to the league’s policy on domestic abuse, it’s not a matter of whether Bauer will be suspended. The real question is for how long. But the worst part of the Los Angeles Dodgers is that they still have to pay him. How much? Well, it could rise up to $80+ million.

ESPN: Trevor Bauer May Not Play Again

ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke down the numbers and the situation. Right now, people around the league expect Bauer to be made an example of and be handed a historically long sanction. And even if he appeals, he may not even play again.

“The details of the allegations, Bauer’s reputation as a difficult personality, teams’ fear of public backlash and a climate in which allegations of sexual assault have far deeper repercussions than at any time before are like four walls converging on Bauer,” Passan said.

“At this point, the answer to that question is far down the road. The DA’s office must make its decision. Then MLB. Then, presumably, an arbitrator. And, after all that, if Trevor Bauer still wants to pitch in the major leagues, if he still has any fight left, it might still not be enough,” he added.

Bauer Could Still Cost The Dodgers Dozens Of Millions

But perhaps the aspect of this situation that worries the Dodgers the most is the uncertainty about a potential suspension. They will have to pay him his full salary for this season and, should he continue to be in paid leave, they’re forced to keep filling his pockets.

According to Passan, the league could “keep Bauer on administrative leave ad infinitum” or try to suspend him without pay. The latter, however, would be tricky. As for a suspension, some around the league believe that he’ll be out of MLB for at least one year, with a two-year suspension being the likeliest scenario.

“He signed a three-year, $102 million free-agent contract in February. It includes, sources said, a $10 million signing bonus that already has been paid out in two installments, $8 million in salary paid during the regular season and a $20 million lump-sum deferral due Nov. 30. If a suspension drops before that payment, the Dodgers could conceivably withhold it, but Bauer would challenge that and argue the money owed him was for time on administrative leave, during which he is paid like an active player.

The next two seasons are the source of even more intrigue. Bauer can opt into a $32 million salary for 2022. At the end of next year, he can opt into a $32 million salary for the 2023 season — or take a $15 million buyout and become a free agent.

When Bauer signed, it was assumed he would pitch for the Dodgers in 2021 and 2022, then use the opt-out to hit free agency, having made $85 million over two seasons. Now, depending on the result of any appeal — or the possibility that he somehow can rescue his damaged reputation — him opting into that final season might be a fait accompli.

If Bauer is suspended for an entire season, the benefit for the Dodgers goes beyond saving tens of millions of dollars in salary. For that season, Bauer will not count against the team’s competitive-balance tax payroll — saving the Dodgers from a $34 million hit on the number that determines their luxury tax penalty and perhaps allowing them to pursue higher-priced and higher-valued free agents from whom they might shy away otherwise.”

No one can tell for sure what’s going to happen with the reigning Cy Young award winner. But, right now, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to see any more of his sword celebrations. At least for the foreseeable future.

Nonetheless, he’s recently been all over the news for the wrong reasons, as a woman accused him of sexual assault and even tried to file a restraining order against him. Obviously, he hasn’t been allowed to pitch ever since.

Bauer and his camp alleged that the woman is just trying to shake him down and frame him with false evidence. And, whether that’s true or not, at least he got a big win on the court a couple of days ago.

Judge Denies Restraining Order Against Trevor Bauer

According to a report by Steve Henson of the LA Times, a judge denied the restraining order petition against him. So, while it’s unclear what effect will that have on his paid leave, it’s clearly a positive sign for him.

“The court denies the request for a long-term restraining order. Judge: “If she set limits and he exceeded them, this case would be clear. But he did not exceed limits she set.” . . . Bauer won the hearing. Totally unclear what it means to MLB or to potential criminal charges,” tweeted Henson.

Bauer Breaks The Silence

A couple of days ago, the Cy Young Award winner broke the silence regarding his current situation. He addressed some of the allegations made by The Washington Post to try and clear his name:

“While I have allowed my representatives to speak on my behalf over the last six weeks, I can no longer be silent. I will speak very candidly about the current petition when appropriate, but need to address the allegations made today in The Washington Post,” Bauer tweeted along with some pictures.

While the criminal charges haven’t been dropped as of now, Bauer’s camp has shared proof that doesn’t exactly make his accuser look good. For now, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he’s reinstated and back on the mound.

Bauer’s camp has always stated that the encounters with the accuser were consensual. Moreover, they have evidence to prove that, even though the woman later tried to get a restraining order.

And now, in some documents obtained by TMZ, it shows that the accuser was only trying to gain a monetary settlement and end Bauer’s career, going as far as to use false evidence to support her case.

“In the docs, Bauer’s lawyers claim his accuser’s text messages and emails to friends and legal team show the woman was not sexually assaulted by Bauer, but rather show she had simply wanted to end the Dodgers pitcher’s career.

Bauer’s attorneys also claim the woman had hoped to ultimately gain a monetary settlement from Bauer after she had filed for her initial temporary restraining order against him earlier this summer.

In the docs, Bauer’s attorneys say the photos that the woman provided in her June TRO request “appear to be edited or filtered in a manner to give a misleading or false impression of her injuries.”

“[Bauer’s accuser] has taken a proceeding designed to prevent future acts of ‘domestic violence,’ and turned it into a tool for attracting media attention and attempting to end [Bauer’s] baseball career,” Bauer’s attorneys wrote.

The woman also allegedly told her friends and legal advisors that she was only hoping that Bauer “try to settle with me, offer me major cash then make me sign a non-disclosure agreement.”

Needless to say, whether that’s true or not is not for us to decide. We’ll never condone violence of any kind, especially domestic violence. But for now, things seem quite blurry, to say the least; so we’ll have to wait and see how this situation unfolds.

The case is currently under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department and the Commissioner’s office, as the woman even filed a restraining order against the former Cincinnati Reds star.

Per MLBPA ruling, a player under investigation should still get paid while the process is ongoing, meaning that his team is losing money every single day he’s not on the mound. But, how much have the Dodgers paid Bauer for not playing?

Dodgers Are Losing A Lot Of Money With Trevor Bauer On Paid Leave

If we break down Bauer’s massive $102 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, you’d see that he’s due to make around $38 million this season. Given that he’s lost 10 regular season games already, it means that his team has lost nearly $2.5 million on him – and counting.

It’s worth noting that Bauer’s camp has repeatedly stated that his encounters with the said woman were consensual and there’s even evidence of her asking to be choked and slapped. Then again, the woman alleges that some actions are illegal even under consent.

It doesn’t seem like this story is going to go away any time soon and – obviously – we believe that he should pay his debt to society if he is, in fact, guilty. No one should condone this kind of behavior.

But if he is innocent as he pledges and as most of the evidence shows, we just hope he can put this scandal behind him and go back to what he does best: Throwing strikes and calling out Robert Manfred and gossip bloggers.

Often accused of using pine tar and sticky substances, Bauer has been a disruptive agent for the league on social media. Yet, they’ve never been able to prove that he’s – in fact – using illegal substances.

But now, to make things a little more complicated, Radar reported that the woman had also been with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr and that he could also be brought in for an investigation, as one of her friends reached out to MLB and the Pasadena Police Department with more evidence:

“In the messages – obtained and reviewed by Radar – the alleged victim told the friend she allegedly had a past sexual relationship with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis, Jr., saying she “cant believe I achieved that,” adding that it was the “best sex OF MY LIFE.” The woman alluded to that relationship being “the reason [she] had to resign from the pad squad!” Per the Padres’ website, the Pad Squad is an ambassador team for the Padres and part of the Petco Park experience,” stated the report.

“The woman went on to send the friend screenshots of Instagram DMs allegedly exchanged between herself and Bauer, noting that she was “going to his house” that week and “already [has] her hooks in,” adding, “you know how I roll,” added Radar.

“The woman told the friend she was “literally going to get in his head”… “and find pine tar.” She added, “trust me I know what I’m doing.” The woman said Bauer was “so intriguing to me tho” and that “hes a whackaddodle. Like Clev,” a reference to Bauer’s former teammate and San Diego Padres pitcher Mike Clevinger, who she alluded to knowing,” the report concluded.

The texts, however, do not imply that Tatis Jr also assaulted her or anything like that. But, according to the alleged victim, those texts could hurt her case as she believes people won’t take her seriously anymore. Whatever’s the case, it seems like this history just won’t go away any time soon.

Now, however, the reigning Cy Young Award winner made the tabloids for all the wrong reasons, as a woman whom he had sex with is accusing him of assaulting her and even filed a restraining order against him.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar denied all allegations and his attorney claimed to have proof of the consensual nature of their encounters. Even so, he’ll face an investigation to determine the degree truth of this accusations.

In both of their encounters, [the accuser] drove from San Diego to Mr. Bauer’s residence in Pasadena, Calif. where she went on to dictate what she wanted from him sexually and he did what was asked. Following each of her only two meetings with Mr. Bauer, [the accuser] spent the night and left without incident, continuing to message Mr. Bauer with friendly and flirtatious banter. In the days following their second and final encounter, [the accuser] shared photos of herself and indicated that she had sought medical care for a concussion. Mr. Bauer responded with concern and confusion, and [the accuser] was neither angry nor accusatory.

Mr. Bauer and [the accuser] have not corresponded in over a month and have not seen each other in over six weeks. Her basis for filing a protection order is nonexistent, fraudulent, and deliberately omits key facts, information, and her own relevant communications. Any allegations that the pair’s encounters were not 100% consensual are baseless, defamatory, and will be refuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

“The order is a result of a recent assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer where Ms. Hill suffered severe physical and emotional pain. Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible. We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously,” the woman’s attorney told TMZ.

Whether MLB will take action against Bauer or not is yet to be seen. The league has taken a zero-tolerance policy with domestic abuses cases lately, not to mention they’ve had Bauer on their list for quite some time now.

Bauer has been all over social media over the past couple of years calling out MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred over the league’s hypocritic stance on foreign substances. He’s even sold t-shirts with ‘Legalize Pine Tar’ on it.

And now that the league has suddenly made it a priority to put an end to this millenary practice, the Los Angeles Dodgers star once again made a fool out of the commissioner’s office with his hilarious antics.

The righty pitcherposted a video of himself in the Dodgers dugout asking the league a simple question: Is this legal or illegal? While showing how he had a baseball virtually taped to his right hand.

Carlos Rodon, Tyler Glasnow Blast The League Over New Policy

Other prominent figures around the league, such as Chicago White Sox Carlos Rodon and Tampa Bay Rays Tyler Glasnow weren’t so pleased with this new policy either, sounding off against the league:

“If Rob Manfred can look himself in the mirror and say, ‘Hey I’m doing the right thing,’ that’s fine,” Rodon told Bleacher Report. “But if you can’t suspend the team that you actually knew was cheating during a playoff game, that’s on you. It’s hard to see this when you’re giving out 10-game suspensions for cheating, but you give the Astros no suspensions at all.”

“I just threw 80 something innings and you just told me I can’t use anything. I have to change everything,” Glasnow told the media, as quoted byTricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Florida. “I truly believe 100 percent that’s why I got hurt. I’m frustrated MLB doesn’t understand. You can’t just tell us to use nothing. It’s crazy.”

Pitchers doctoring baseballs is a tale as old as time. Even if some swear they’ve never done it, it’s pretty hard to believe. Perhaps it’s time MLB checks out its list of allowed and banned substances and reaches a consensus with players.Clearly, suspending players with pay for 10 days isn’t going to do anything to change this.
