Bill Belichick finally responds to the growing New York Giants buzz, offering a sharp clarification on his future with UNC. His message leaves no room for confusion, but plenty for conversation.
Bill Belichick finally addressed the growing noise around a possible NFL return, offering a rare public response as speculation tied him once again to the New York Giants. He acknowledged the franchise’s importance in his career, saying he has “great respect” for the organization and its ownership. But the message that followed carried a much firmer tone.

Speaking from Chapel Hill, Belichick made it clear that his priorities haven’t drifted, even as rumors accelerated in recent weeks. He praised the Giants’ role in shaping his coaching journey, calling it “a privilege” to work under the Mara family and alongside Bill Parcells. Still, he hinted that outside chatter doesn’t match his actual plans.

Belichick also delivered a pointed reminder about where his focus remains. He noted that his commitment to UNC “has not wavered” and emphasized the support surrounding the program. What he said next left little doubt about where he intends to stay, at least for now.

Belichick’s full message

Below is Belichick’s complete statement, where he expands on his respect for the Giants, addresses the rumors directly, and lays out why his commitment to UNC remains unchanged as it was posted on his personal instagram account @billbelichick.

“I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families. The New York Giants played an important role in my life and in my coaching journey. It was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells’ staff for over a decade. However, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies.”

“Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC Football program has not wavered. We have tremendous support from the university, our alumni, and the entire Carolina community.
UNC legend Raymond Felton tried to give Seth Trimble a helping hand.
Raymond Felton shared a piece of advice to North Carolina Tar Heels guard Seth Trimble ahead of his senior season. The retired guard watched Trimble firsthand in the offseason when they spent time together at the basketball camp.

Felton, who won the 2005 national championship with the Tar Heels, has been a critic of the backcourt’s performance. Besides offering positive words for former teammate Hubert Davis, who might be on the hot seat this season, he also shared some wisdom with Trimble.

Trimble led the team in steals per game (1.4), ranked third in points (11.6), and second in rebounds (5.0) for a team that posted a 23-14 record (13-7 in the conference) and was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Raymond Felton reveals what he told Seth Trimble before NCAA season

In an interview on the “TarHeel247” podcast, the former New York Knicks guard discussed the advice he gave Tremble during UNC’s summer camp.

Raymond Felton

“I went back to the camp this year because my son, you know, was a part of the Carolina camp this year,” Felton explained. “I talked to Seth for a long time. I said, bro, do me a favor. This is all I asked for you,” Felton told Trimble. “I said, I watched y’all practice last year. I watched y’all play last year a lot. And I said, let’s get back to like making people uncomfortable in our building.”

The Tar Heels enter the season with a lot of pressure. Time will tell if they can take a step forward or stay stuck as other top programs continue to evolve on and off the court.

UNC coach Hubert Davis knew what he was getting into when he took the Tar Heels' job.
North Carolina Tar Heels coach Hubert Davis talked about the pressure he’s facing ahead of his fifth season in front of the team. Davis joined the program ahead of the 2021-22 season, which turned out to be his best so far.

He led the team to a 29-10 record and a national championship game appearance that was decided in the final seconds by the Kansas Jayhawks. Ever since that, UNC has missed the NCAA tournament once and hasn’t been able to return to the Final Four.

Davis is thought to be on the hot seat entering this season, especially considering how other iconic programs have evolved and competed in recent years, while the Tar Heels appeared to be one step behind them in terms of recruiting and performance.

Hubert Davis talks about the pressure he faces at North Carolina

Talking with Michael Koh of Chapelboro.com, Davis shared his thoughts on the pressure he carries ahead of the new season, stating that he’s aware of what his team is expected to achieve every year.

Hubert Davis

“I feel the same way that I’ve felt the last four years. There is a pressure and expectation for us to be good this year, but that pressure and that expectation for us to be good is no different than any other year,” he said. “The standard is at the highest here. I always talk to the guys [about], ‘The standard is the standard, and there’s an expectation every year for us to reach that standard.’ I actually had a conversation with [Senior Associate Athletic Director Steve Kirschner]. There’s a pressure and expectation to be good this year, but also, in some sense, to keep it there.”

The Tar Heels remain one of the best programs in college basketball history, but fans want new glories, and he’s going to be on the hot seat if he doesn’t get the team going early.

Raymond Felton has Hubert Davis' back, even despite the struggles.
Hubert Davis enters the 2025-26 NCAA season carrying a lot of pressure after another disappointing campaign. They only made it to the first round of the 2025 NCAA tournament, where the Ole Miss Rebels sent them home 71-61.

North Carolina posted a 23-14 record, the third-best they have registered under Davis (29-8 in 2023-24 and 28-10 in 2021-22) in four seasons. The Tar Heels haven’t made the Final Four since 2022 and fans and analysts are starting to grow frustrated with the lack of evolution.

The program remains one of the best in the country, but the recent lack of success and evolution, while Kansas, Kentucky, and their archrivals Duke are adapting to the new era of college basketball, has raised eyebrows among fans.

Former NBA star backs Hubert Davis ahead of 2025-26 NCAA season

Former New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton, a North Carolina alumn, shared his thoughts on Davis, his former college teammate. In an appearance on the “TarHeel247 – A UNC Basketball” podcast, Felton reminded people what is expected from UNC coaches every year.

Raymond Felton

“The expectations is to win. That’s every year,” Felton explained. “I think Hubert is doing an amazing job. He gets a lot of [criticism], but that comes with being a Carolina coach. You’re going to get everybody’s best game every night, so there’s no room for error.”

Moreover, he disagreed with those who call for Davis to be fired, adding that the coach is very passionate about the program.

“Can he be better? Yes. But to say it’s his fault and he needs to be fired, I can’t agree with that,” Felton said. “This is his livelihood. He’s passionate about Carolina. We’ve got to respect that.”

The upcoming season might be crucial for Davis’ future in front of one of the most storied college basketball programs of all time.

https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/bill-belichick-reveals-surprising-reason-patriots-scouts-were-banned-from-unc

One of the most controversial developments so far between UNC and Bill Belichick came when the head coach revealed details behind the ban that currently prevents New England Patriots scouts from accessing the Tar Heels’ facilities.
Bill Belichick is usually pretty direct when he talks, and this time he didn’t hold back in detailing a measure that has been affecting New England Patriots scouts. According to Belichick, they have been banned from using the UNC Tar Heels’ facilities — a place where he himself once worked for years — because he says he’s not welcome there either.

“It’s clear I’m not welcome there at their facility,” Belichick said about his relationship with UNC and how it impacts the Patriots’ scouts. “So they’re not welcome at ours. It’s pretty simple.”

His decision to block the scouts has drawn criticism from fans and even from contract and salary cap expert Jason from Over The Cap, who wrote: “This is a bad look for Belichick. For pro sports fine, but he’s a college coach and if there are players on his team that the Patriots want to scout he is doing his players a disservice by acting this way.”

How many UNC players have been drafted by the Patriots?

Since 1981, the New England Patriots have drafted seven players out of UNC, including the first selected in 1961 by the Boston Patriots. The most recent was quarterback Drake Maye in 2024, ending nearly a two-year stretch in which no QB from the program had been drafted by a pro team.

ANOTHER HOT START FROM THE TAR HEELS. 🩵

(🎥: @UNCFootball)pic.twitter.com/e8nylquVUA
— theScore (@theScore) September 6, 2025

Only one of those UNC players went on to win a Super Bowl with the Patriots. Safety Dexter Reid earned two rings during his career, one of them with New England in 2005, when the Patriots defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.

The season didn’t start well for Belichick

Belichick’s first game as UNC’s head coach didn’t sit well with fans, as the team suffered a 48-14 blowout loss to TCU. He did manage to notch his first win recently, a 20-3 victory over Charlotte. Up next, UNC will face two more non-conference opponents (Richmond, UCF) before the marquee matchup against Clemson on October 4.

From the roar of the crowd to the clash in the trenches, the UNC has been shaped by players who transcended stats. Founded in 1888, they have built a tradition of resilience, leaving footprints on the gridiron that echo through Chapel Hill.

Generations of Tar Heels have defined moments of brilliance. With five ACC titles and countless NFL alumni, UNC has produced athletes who reshaped games and inspired communities with their talent and determination.

Their stories linger beyond the scoreboard, whispered in stadium stands and etched into a program now energized by ambitious leadership and investments in elite recruits, ensuring the legacy of Carolina football endures.

Lawrence Taylor | LB

Lawrence Taylor poses for his University of North Carolina headshot in 1980.
Lawrence Taylor‘s impact at UNC was transformative. Initially recruited as a defensive lineman, he was moved to outside linebacker, where his rare combination of size and speed made him a standout.

In 1980, he earned unanimous All-American honors, showcasing his dominance on the field. His aggressive playstyle and relentless pursuit of quarterbacks redefined the linebacker position and set the stage for his legendary NFL career.

Julius Peppers | DE

Julius Peppers #49 of the North Carolina Tar Heels holding hishelmet while standing on the field during a game in 2000. (Source: Craig Jones /Allsport)

Things aren't looking very promising for UNC coach Hubert Davis right now.
North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team’s coach Hubert Davis enters the 2025-26 NCAA season with a lot of pressure, according to college basketball analyst Joe Ovies.

After taking over the team in the 2021-22 season, Davis had a strong start to his tenure with the program, posting a 29-19 record and taking the team to the 2022 NCAA tournament’s Final Four.

Ever since that debut season, Davis has struggled to build a consistent team and his seat might be getting warm this campaign. North Carolina is one of the most iconic programs in college basketball, but Davis’ approach in recent seasons hasn’t been up to its standard.

UNC’s Hubert Davis might be on the hot seat, says college basketball analyst

During this week’s edition of CBS Sports’ “Eye on College Basketball,” Ovies didn’t mince words when discussing Davis’ stint at Chapel Hill. Ovies noted that the team has failed to live up to the expectations they have every year.

Hubert Davis

“Three of the last four years, North Carolina has been a bubble team,” he said. “Is that really the standard at UNC? Absolutely not.”

Ovies added that the Tar Heels have overused the card of the Jordan Brand connection to recruit players, which isn’t that successful nowadays.

“They’ve been caught flat-footed,” Ovies added. “Right now, UNC fans sound like they’re stuck in the past,” he said. “Everyone else has moved forward except Carolina.”

Hubert has posted a 101-45 record in four seasons in front of the Tar Heels, but that might not be enough to retain his job if the new season is also irregular.

Bill Belichick needs no introduction in the world of football, as he is the mastermind who transformed the New England Patriots into an unrivaled dynasty with six Super Bowl titles and over two decades of excellence.

After his incredible run in the NFL, he now faces an unexpected challenge: bringing his tactical genius, meticulous preparation, and ability to reinvent himself to the North Carolina Tar Heels in college football.

Although many associated him exclusively with the professional elite, this move places him in the spotlight in an environment where the sport’s future stars are shaped, and tradition is palpable in every game.

What is Bill Belichick’s salary?

At 72 years old, Bill Belichick has decided to take a radical turn in his career, leaving behind his days of glory in the NFL to join UNC as head coach, signing a $10 million contract, according to USA Today and Go Heels.

Head Coach Bill Belichick of the North Carolina Tar Heels speaks to the media during a press conference on December 12, 2024. (Source: Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)

The five-year deal, with an annual salary of $10 million, may seem like a step down compared to the $25 million he earned in the NFL. However, for him, this new chapter appears to be more about legacy than numbers.

The big question now is: Can he bring his winning mentality and disciplined approach to the collegiate level? For now, the Tar Heels are ready to enjoy the leadership of one of the most brilliant minds in the history of the sport.

Belichick’s move to the Tar Heels also highlights how college football has become increasingly professionalized over the past decades, offering multimillion-dollar salaries to star coaches like him.

Head coach Bill Belichick of the North Carolina Tar Heels addresses the crowd during halftime in the game against the La Salle Explorers. (Source: Grant Halverson/Getty Images)

The news broke in December, and as expected, the head coach—who currently ranks second in all-time NFL wins—has spoken about this new chapter in his career, saying:

“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill. I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill”.

Bill Belichick’s family history with UNC

Although Bill Belichick had never been head coach of the Tar Heels, he is no stranger to the team, as his father, Steve, was an assistant football coach from 1953 to 1955 before moving on to the United States Naval Academy.

During that time, Bill often attended team meetings and film sessions with his father. By his teenage years, he was already able to diagram complex plays, all thanks to Steve, according to sources like Go Heels.

Amid swirling rumors of a potential NFL comeback, Bill Belichick's girlfriend has revealed the coach's final decision on where he'll be leading the charge in 2025.
Bill Belichick‘s drama continues. Rumors swirl about his reported interest in leaving UNC to coach in the NFL again, and now his girlfriend has confirmed the coach’s destination for 2025.

Last year, the Patriots parted ways with Bill Belichick after a highly successful tenure that brought six Super Bowl titles to the AFC East club. Nevertheless, his recent years were disappointing, prompting the team to seek a fresh start at the head coach position.

As a free agent, Bill Belichick searched for a new club to coach, but no team made him an offer. Recently, he announced his move to the University of North Carolina, though several NFL teams now seem interested in bringing him back to the league this year.

Bill Belichick’s girlfriend drops a bombshell on his 2025 coaching plans

Bill Belichick’s career has taken several sharp turns in the past year. After being released by the Patriots, he nearly secured a job with the Atlanta Falcons, but the NFC South team ultimately decided against hiring him.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/possible-nfl-return-bill-belichicks-situation-with-unc-takes-a-dramatic-turn" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20250116_BUS_314868_Bill-Belichick-six-time-Super-Bowl-champion.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="A few weeks ago, the UNC Tar Heels announced the arrival of Bill Belichick, but now the head coach's situation with the college has taken an unexpected twist that could see him returning to the NFL.

Unfortunately for Belichick, no franchise offered him a position for the 2024 season. He spent the year as a football analyst but made it clear he intended to continue coaching.

No NFL club reached out to him last year, but the University of North Carolina did. The Tar Heels offered him a 5-year deal, which Belichick accepted after receiving no offers from NFL teams.

However, this move reignited interest among NFL franchises. According to reports, several teams have now contacted him in an effort to lure him back to the league, but it seems the six-time Super Bowl champion has already made his decision for this year.

Jordon Hudson, Bill Belichick’s girlfriend, posted a picture of her and the coach on Instagram, captioned: “Pictured: two people who are overtly committed to @uncfootball,” quashing rumors about his potential return to the NFL.

What happens if Bill Belichick decides not to coach the UNC Tar Heels?

As of now, Bill Belichick has not signed his contract with the University of North Carolina, per CBS. He has already started assembling his staff, but the possibility of returning to the NFL seems to be causing him to reconsider coaching in college.

A few weeks ago, the UNC Tar Heels announced the arrival of Bill Belichick, but now the head coach's situation with the college has taken an unexpected twist that could see him returning to the NFL.
Bill Belichick is poised to coach again this year, but uncertainty looms over where. Despite recently joining the UNC Tar Heels, his situation with the college has taken a sharp turn, hinting at a potential return to the NFL.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 season, the New England Patriots decided to part ways with Belichick. Despite leading the team to six Super Bowl titles, his recent underwhelming performance forced the franchise to move on.

Without any NFL offers for the 2024 season, Belichick spent the year as an analyst. The University of North Carolina then approached him to coach in college, but their collaboration might be unraveling before it begins.

Report: Bill Belichick’s relationship with UNC faces a major twist

In late 2024, rumors of UNC’s interest in Bill Belichick surfaced. These rumors were confirmed when the Tar Heels officially announced him as their head coach for the 2025 season.

<div class="wp_fsn_relatedlinks" use="ALSO" link="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football/ncaaf-news-bill-belichick-unc-could-lose-starting-qb-to-enter-transfer-portal" image="https://ds-images.bolavip.com/news/image?src=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.bolavip.com%2Fwebp%2Fen%2Ffull%2FBUS_20250116_BUS_314783_Bill-Belichick-recently-joined-the-UNC-Tar-Heels-as-head-coach.webp&width=200&height=200" excerpt="North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick learned some harsh news as the school's starting quarterback is planning to enter the transfer portal.

Reports indicate that Belichick agreed to a five-year deal with UNC and has begun assembling his coaching staff. However, a sudden turn of events has cast doubt on his future with the program.

Jonathan Jones of CBS reports that Belichick has yet to sign his contract with UNC. While not uncommon in college sports, this delay fuels speculation about his potential NFL return.

Belichick reportedly faces a $10 million buyout clause if he exits before June 1, 2025, which drops to $1 million after that date. Rumors suggest either Belichick or an NFL team could pay the buyout to facilitate his return to the league.

However, they await developments between him and UNC before making any moves.

Is Bill Belichick eyeing an NFL comeback?

Amidst these rumors, Belichick initially dismissed the idea of an NFL return, reaffirming his commitment to UNC. However, recent developments indicate a possible shift in his stance.

Bill Belichick recently joined the UNC Tar Heels as head coach, but now a multiple Super Bowl-winning franchise is trying to lure him back to the NFL.
A few weeks ago, the UNC Tar Heels announced the arrival of Bill Belichick as head coach. However, a multiple Super Bowl-winning franchise is now trying to lure him back into the NFL for the 2025 season.

Last year, the New England Patriots decided to part ways with Bill Belichick. The head coach delivered six Super Bowl titles to the AFC East club, but his seasons without Tom Brady were disappointing.

Due to the team’s underperformance, the Patriots made the tough decision to part ways with Belichick. He didn’t find a team for the 2024 NFL season, but now it seems several franchises could be interested in bringing him back for 2025.

Super Bowl-winning franchise attempts to lure Bill Belichick back to the NFL
