From legendary athletes to unforgettable moments, the Games have showcased the pinnacle of human performance and left an enduring impact across various sports. Many competitors have not only excelled in their events but have also created a lasting legacy within their disciplines.

In recent times, several athletes have distinguished themselves not only through exceptional performances but also through their impressive medal counts at the Olympic Games. These standout competitors have made significant marks in their sports, accumulating numerous medals and solidifying their places as some of the most decorated Olympians in history.

Among the most emblematic and charismatic athletes is undoubtedly the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. With multiple Olympic championships to his name, Bolt has amassed an impressive collection of gold medals throughout his career, establishing himself as one of the most successful athletes in Olympic history. His electrifying performances and vibrant personality have left an indelible mark on the sport of track and field.

Usain Bolt’s Olympic career spans three unforgettable Games: Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016. Throughout these events, Bolt delivered iconic performances, securing an extraordinary number of gold medals and never finishing outside of first place. His dominance on the track has solidified his legacy as one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history.

Beijing 2008: The beginning of Bolt’s legacy

Usain Bolt made his Olympic debut at Beijing 2008, where his athletic prowess quickly became evident. Prior to the Games, Bolt had already shown remarkable talent, but it was in China that he truly made his mark. At these Olympics, the young Jamaican claimed gold medals in both the 100m and 200m sprints, announcing his arrival on the global stage with a spectacular performance.

Usain Bolt’s gold medal tally at Beijing 2008 could have reached three, but a positive doping test from a teammate led to the disqualification of the Jamaican 4x100m relay team. Despite this setback, Bolt’s dominant performances in the 100m and 200m solidified his status as a rising star in athletics.

London 2012: Bolt confirms his legendary status

At London 2012, Usain Bolt cemented his status as an Olympic legend. Building on his Beijing success, Bolt delivered breathtaking performances in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events.

Usain Bolt of Jamaica wins the Men’s 100m Final on Day 9 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on August 14, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rio 2016: A grand farewell for Usain Bolt

At the Rio 2016 Olympics, Usain Bolt bid farewell to his Olympic career in spectacular fashion. The sprinting icon clinched gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, completing a historic “triple-triple” of gold medals. Bolt’s final Olympic performance was a fitting end to an extraordinary career, showcasing his unmatched speed and charisma one last time on the world stage.

The medal tally of Bolt

In the end, accounting for all the medals from the three Olympic Games, Usain Bolt concluded his career with eight gold medals at the Olympic level. Without a doubt, this achievement establishes him as one of the greatest Olympic athletes in history.

Usain Bolt's impact transcends the Olympic Games.
Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, has marked an era in athletics with his world records and impressive performances at the Olympic Games. However, the Jamaican is one of the important absences at Paris 2024.

Bolt not only left a mark on athletics, but also on popular culture. His iconic celebrations and outgoing personality made him a beloved figure by fans around the world.

The Jamaican has inspired millions of people around the world with his talent and charisma. His eight Olympic gold medals and multiple world records are a testament to his dominance in sprint events.

Why is Usain Bolt out of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?

Despite many fans longing to see him once again on the track, Usain Bolt has made it clear that his time as a competitive athlete has come to an end. Bolt retired from professional athletics in 2017, after a career full of success and having cemented his status as one of the greatest athletes of all time. For this reason, he will not be present at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Usain Bolt of Jamaica celebrates as he crosses the line to win the Men’s 100m Final at the National Stadium on Day 8 of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on August 16, 2008 in Beijing, China.
Age and injuries: determining factors in Bolt’s retirement

Another of the main reasons why Usain Bolt will not compete in Paris 2024 is his age. The Jamaican no longer has the same explosiveness and speed that characterized him during his sports career. The human body has its limits, and as we age, it’s natural for physical performance to decline.

In addition to age, injuries have also played a role in Bolt’s decision to retire. Throughout his career, the Jamaican suffered several injuries that forced him to miss important competitions. These injuries left sequelae in his body and made it difficult for him to prepare for high-level events.

Bold and his indelible legacy

Even though Usain Bolt is no longer competing, his legacy lives on. The Jamaican inspired millions of people around the world with his talent and charisma. Although the athletics world misses seeing Usain Bolt on the track, it is important to recognize and celebrate all that he accomplished during his career.

Happy birthday to the fastest man on the face of the earth, even though he is retired so far no one has been able to break his top record. Check here what's going on with his records.
Usain Bolt, also known as “Lightning Bolt”, was born on August 21, 1986 in a small town called Sherwood Content in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica. He is widely regarded as the fastest man in the world.

From a young age, Bolt was fascinated by sports. He played soccer and cricket with his brothers Sadiki and Sherine. It wasn’t until the age of 12 that he began to focus on sprinting.

One of Bolt’s first medals came in 2001, when he won two silver medals in the 400 meters and 200 meters at a Caribbean regional event sprinting for his national team.

Usain Bolt’s best records from his career: Are his world records safe?

Yes, so far nobody has been able to break the 9.58 seconds of his 100 meter records, only Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake have come close with 9.69 seconds each. On the other hand, his other individual world record of 200 meters at 19.19 is also safe since it was established in 2009 along with the 100 meter record.

100 meters in Berlin

2009 was to be a unique year for him, his most iconic record being set during the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Germany, 100 meters finished in 9.58 seconds.

BERLIN – AUGUST 16: Usain Bolt of Jamaica celebrates winning the gold medal in the men’s 100 Metres Final during day two of the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium on August 16, 2009 in Berlin, Germany.
200 meters also in Berlin

The second most important personal record of the Bolt’s career is the 200 meter at 19.19, nobody has been able to lower that mark, but Yohan Blake was close in 2011 with 19.26 secs.

Relay and other medals

Usain Bolt also set a record with his national team, Jamaica in 2012 at the 4 x 100 meter relay with a 36.86 mark in London. He won multiple medals and championships during his career being 2017 his last championship appearance.

It looks likely that history will be made at Tokyo 202, asShelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has the potential to equal Usain Bolt's record in the Olympics. Find out more about their records here.
American sprinter Usain Bolt has won eight Olympic gold medals and three consecutive 100-meter and 200-meter crowns, in 2008, 2012, and 2016. When it comes to 100-meters, Bolt has won three gold medals at successive Olympics. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, on the other hand, won the championship in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 but finished third in Rio behind Elaine Thompson-Herah and Tori Bowie.

As of June 5, Fraser-Pryce set a new record for the quickest 100m time in more than three decades, clocking 10.63 seconds. Seeing her run so good at 34 was nothing new to Bolt.

There’s a lot on Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s plate and there is so much at stake, but nothing will deter her from her goal of making history inTokyo 2020 and matching the feats of fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt, who won three gold medals in the men’s 100m event.

In the US Olympic trials, Sha’Carri Richardson tested positive for marijuana, ruling her out of the 100-meter race in this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. As the first Jamaican woman to win the 100m race in the Olympics, Fraser-Pryce triumphed in Beijing in 2008, defeating Merlene Ottey and Juliet Cuthbert. The following year, she was banned for six months after testing positive fora prohibited drug, which she stated was caused by toothache medicine.

Despite winning the 100m Olympic gold in London in 2012, Fraser-Pryce was unable to complete her hat-trick at Rio in 2016, finishing third behind Thompson-Herah. As a result, she took time off to have a baby but returned in 2019 to win her fourth 100m global title and ninth world championship gold.In June, the Jamaican sprinter achieved a lifetime best of 10.63 seconds in “super spikes” to become the all-time second-fastest woman behind the late US sprinter Florence Griffith Joyner, who ran 10.49 seconds.

Olizarenko also came in third at the 1500 m event at the same Olympics. She had the world record for the 800 m event which was broken years later, but not at a Summer Olympics event so she is still the record holder.

22. Oldest gold medalist (Oscar Swahn)

Oscar Swahn was a Swedish shooter who won six medals including three gold. Not only is he the oldest person to win gold, he’s also the oldest person to win any medal and the oldest to ever compete in a Summer Olympics.

    Oscar Swahn (Enacademic)

21. 200 m womens (Florence Griffith Joyner)

Florence Griffith-Joyner, also known as Flo-Jo, was an American track and field athlete. Not only does she have two olympic records, she is also the fastest woman of all time!

Florence Griffith-Joyner runs down the track during the Olympic Trials (Getty)

Flo-Jo broke the Summer Olympic record in 1988 for the 200 m when she ran it in 21:34.This is not only a Summer Olympic record, it still stands as a world record that no one has come close to beating.

20. Most gold won in a single women’s tournament (Kristin Otto)

Kristin Otto is a German swimming champion who held the world records for the 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle events. She was also the first woman to swim the 100 meter backstroke in under a minute.

Kristin Otto of East Germany punches the air after winning the 100 Metres Freestyle event at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea (Getty)

Otto is most famous for winning six gold medals in a single Summer Olympics games. She did this at the 1988 Seoul Olympic games. In the same Olympics, she also set records in the 50 m freestyle and 100 m butterfly events.

19. Beating a three-time defending olympic champion (Rulon Gardner)

Rulon Gardner is a retired Greco-Roman olympic gold medalist wrestler. This is particularly impressive because of what he accomplished in 2000. At the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic games Gardner pulled off the impossible.

Rulon Gardner of the USA walks off the mat after competing against Miguel Lopez of Cuba during the wrestling portion of the Titan Games at the Events Center at San Jose State on Febraury 14, 2003 in San Jose, California (Getty)

Gardner got to the final of the competition where he had to face Russia’s Aleksandr Karelin. Karelin was unbeaten for 13 years in international competitions and had not given up a single point in 6 years. Gardner was able to defeat the world championwhen he was freshlyout of college.

18. Biggest game score (USA vs Nigeria)

Basketball is a popular Summer Olympic sport. No team does it better than the United States when it comes to basketball and in this particular game the US really showed how good they truly are.

Gold medalist Kevin Durant of the United States poses for a photo following the Men’s Gold medal game on Day 16 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at Carioca Arena 1 on August 21, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Getty)

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, the United States faced off against Nigeria in a game that would break records. The US beat Nigeria 156-72 for a total of 229 points. That record hasn’t even been close to being beaten since.

17. Bowling gold medal performance(Arianne Cerdena)

Arianne Cerdena has a record that as of right now at least, will never be beaten. The 1988 Summer Olympics are the only ones to ever feature Bowling as one of their sports. So at least for now, this record can’t be broken.

    Arianne Cerdena (Announce.today)

Cerdena placed first and is the only woman ever to have a gold medal in bowling at the Summer Olympics. Bowling was discontinued because it is not easy for people in third-world countries to develop skill in bowling.

16. 200 mmen (Usain Bolt)

Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter who is now retired. He is considered by many as the greatest sprinter of all time and he holds three world records. He is also an eight-time Olympic gold medallist.

Gold medalist Usain Bolt of Jamaica stands on the podium during the medal ceremony for the Men’s 4 x 100 meter Relay on Day 15 (Getty)

Bolt is the only sprinter to win the Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles in three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012, and 2016). No one has come close to beating his time except himself, so we expect this record to stand for a while.

15. Most medals in a single Olympics women (Maria Gorokhovskaya)

Maria Gorokhovskaya was a Soviet gymnast who has the record for the most medals won by any woman in a single Olympics. She did this at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland.

    Maria Gorokhovskaya (Pinterest)

Gorokhovskaya won seven medals which is still the record to this day. That was the first Olympics that the Soviet Union even participated in and they completely dominated. She retired in 1954 and then became a judge until she passed in 1991.

14. Most medals in one Olympics (USA)

The United States has the most medals as it is when it comes to the Summer Olympics, but this record is outstanding. At the 1904 Summer Olympics the United States hosted the event in St.Louis, Missouri.

Gold medalists Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller, Michael Phelps and Nathan Adrian of the United States pose on the podium during the medal ceremony (Getty)

530 American competitiors participayed in 16 different sports events. The US won 239 medals in 1904 (78 gold, 82 silver, 79 bronze). The Soviet Union is second coming in at 195 medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics.

13. 100 m men (Usain Bolt)

Usain Bolt really needs no introduction. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist has many countless records but this one stands above his 200 m race one because this one was a harder time to beat.

Gold medalist Usain Bolt of Jamaica stands on the podium during the medal ceremony for the Men’s 4 x 100 meter Relay (Getty)

Bolt ran the 100 m in 9.63 which is a Summer Olympic record and was a world record until 2009 when it was broken, by himself to make it 9.58 in Berlin. Bolt is one of the best and most successful sprinters of all time.

12. Most gold medals (USA)

As we have previously stated, no one does it like the US when it comes to the Summer Olympics. With that being said, it is still crazy to see the numbers that the US has put up compared to other countries.

Florence Griffith Joyner of the USA celebrates her 100m win during the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea (Getty)

Great Britain is in third place with 263 gold medals, the Soviet Union is second with 395 gold medals, and the US is first coming in at 1022 gold medals. The US has almost three times the gold medals that the secondplace has.

11. 5,000 and 10,000 m race (Kenenisa Bekele)

Kenenisa Bekele is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who holds both the 5,000 m and 10,000 m world records. He beat the 5,000 m record in 2004 and the 10,000 m in 2005 but he holds both records for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia competes in the men’s 10,000 metres final during day two of the 13th IAAF World Athletics Championships (Getty)

Bekele is the most successful runner in the history of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. His 5,000 m record is 12:49.60 and the 10,000 m record is 27:01.17. One of the best runners ever!

10. Springboard event (Greg Louganis)

Greg Louganisis an American Olympic diver who won gold medals at the 1984 and1988 Summer Olympics. He is the only man in Olympic history to dominate the diving events in consecutive Olympic games.

Greg Louganis of the USA diving team prepares for his dive during competition at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics on September 19 (Getty)

Louganishas been called the greatest American diver of all time numerous times and he was the 1988 “Athlete of the Year“. He was the first diver to ever score a perfect 10 from all seven judgesand his score of 754.41 has yet been beaten.

9. Most table tennis gold medals (China)

No country is as dominant in a single event as China in table tennis. China has been dominating the Summer Olympic sport since it was first introduced in 1988. China has failed to get at least one medal only one time ever.
