While it wasn’t shocking to see multiple teams interested in Xander Bogaerts, the fact that he joined the San Diego Padres,of all teams, was a major surprise. I mean, how many shortstops do they need?

The Padres are trying to build a contender by any means necessary, and spending big money on superstars is sure a step in that direction. But you have to wonder whether this was the right fit for both parties.

Most people were on the fence about Jacob deGrom. 50% thought he was a lock to be back with the New York Mets, while the other 50% was sure he was going to end up with the Atlanta Braves.

So, it was shocking to see the Texas Rangers coming out of the left field to snatch the best pitcher in baseball to a mega deal. Hopefully, he’ll stay healthy and will be able to live up to that contract.

Obviously, Carlos Correa’s deal has to be the biggest surprise. He had already agreed to a 13-yearmega-deal with the San Francisco Giants. Then, out of the blue, they postponed his press conference due to health concerns.

But apparently, Steve Cohen wasn’t concerned at all. He gave Correa a 12-year contract to get the superstar shortstop to the New York Mets. So, what actually happened? What popped up in his medical? I guess we’ll never know.

Needless to say, the rest of the league will try to replicate their success and put together a team that could challenge come playoff time. That will be easier said than done, but there could be multiple players that could help with that cause.

3. Xander Bogaerts

Xander Bogaerts and the Boston Red Sox haven’t been able to reach an agreement on a contract extension. He’s had enough of giving up money to help the team out, and feels like he deserves more.

Moreover, the Red Sox failed to stay in contention this season, and will have plenty o new faces after several of their stars hit free agency. Bogaerts has been a stalwart for the organization, but his days in Boston seem numbered.

The Los Angeles Dodgers struck gold when they acquired Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals. He can play multiple positions and is one of the best lead-off hitters in all the Big Show.

Turner’s defense is only topped by his offense, and the Dodgers simply can’t afford to let him walk away in free agency. However, he could be tempted to join another team if the offer is high enough.

So, why on earth should the Red Sox consider trading their franchise cornerstone? Well, for starters, their farm system isn’t looking good at all. They must make some moves planning ahead to the future.

Second, the Red Sox continue to slide in the AL East. They’re currently sitting at a 6-18 record and trail the New York Yankees by 10.5 games. They’re not going to make the playoffs and that’s not going to change any time soon. But still, that’s not the biggest reason to trade Xander Bogaerts this season. So what is it then?

The Red Sox signed Xander Bogaerts to a huge contract extension in 2019. That new deal could keep him at Fenway Park through 2025 while paying him $20 million a year, which is pretty reasonable considering his contributions.

Then again, his contract includes a no-trade clause once he reaches seven years of service in the Majors. As you may have noticed by now, he could reach that milestone as soon as September2020, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. That’s right after the August 31 trade deadline.
