Tyrese Maxey has been named the 2023-24 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> Most Improved Player thanks to his fantastic performances for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers">Philadelphia 76ers</a> throughout the year. But the truth is the guard has been on the rise for a while now.



That’s why the former first-rounder doesn’t forget about the teammates that helped him improve his game until getting this recognition from the league. Even if that means thanking the likes of Ben Simmons and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/james-harden">James Harden</a>, who left the team on bad terms.



“I’ve learned from a lot of people,” Maxey said, via Sixers Wire. “Honestly, I go down a list. Ben (Simmons) was here, George Hill was here, guys like Danny Green was involved, but he was a leader. He was here who helped me a lot. I talked about him last night just about recovery and things like that. JH comes in, he helps me big time. Kyle Lowry, Pat Bev, those guys.”

Simmons had a months-long stand-off with the organization until the team sent him to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets">Brooklyn</a> in return of Harden in February 2022. But eventually, the Beard left a lot to be desired in the City of Brotherly Love as well.

After failing to help <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/joel-embiid">Joel Embiid</a> go the distance in two seasons, Harden was traded to the Clippers as his relationship with Daryl Morey also reached a point of no return. So fans certainly don’t have a good memory of these two players, but Maxey made it clear they’ve played a part in his growth at the franchise.

“What they all did here, they never, like, stepped on my toes,” Maxey added. “They never hated. They always tried to build me up and I just really appreciate them for that. Especially James, man. He never wanted to step on my toes. He always wanted me to be aggressive and shoutout to him. I appreciate him.”



Selected with the 21st pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyrese-maxey">Maxey</a> went on to become a key contributor to the Sixers. With Harden gone, he was handed even more responsibility this season, and the 23-year-old didn’t let the team down.



Apart from winning the MIP award, Maxey’s outstanding level saw him make the All-Star Game for the first time in 2024. His performances this season have been impressive, averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 45% of his field goals with 37.3% from beyond the arc.

The Miami Heat have done it again. Against all odds, Erik Spoelstra‘s men took down the Boston Celtics on the road to put the series 1-1 in one of the biggest upsets of the 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> playoffs so far.

“We also made some shots. That always works better when we make some shots but also the ones that were available and if we don’t take them, it’s potentially gonna look like Game 1,” <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/erik-spoelstra">Spoelstra</a> said, as Miami showed a significant improvement from beyond the arc compared to Game 1.

<h2>Tyreek Hill opens up on seeing Mahomes, Chiefs succeed without him</h2>



“The first year that they went [to the Super Bowl], my wife and I took a trip to Tokyo because it was kind of hard for me,” Hill said. “I don’t want to look at no game. Oh, well. Let’s just go to Tokyo. Let’s get away from it. Right, and let’s do our thing. So we went to Tokyo for the first year. And when they won, I reached out to all the guys.“



While the Chiefs’ triumph in their first year without him was painful for Hill, the talented playmaker was nothing but happy for Kansas City’s win in 2024. His former team beat the Fins in the postseason, but the wideout had no hard feelings.



“The second year, this year, when they won, like I watched the whole game, I’m like, ‘Y’all, we gotta win this thing, you feel me?’ I’m cool. Nah, but the first year it was kind of hard, I’m saying, trying to get over that hump of seeing the guys, do they thing out there,” Hill said.



<h2>Hill wanted to stay in Kansas City</h2>



Widely regarded as the fastest player in the league and arguably the best wideout, Cheetah shocked the world by joining the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/miami-dolphins">Dolphins</a> in 2022. But before he knew about Miami’s interest, his desire was to stay with the Chiefs.

“I wanted to be in KC 100 percent. Yeah, 100 percent,” said Hill. “Before we even knew about the Dolphins. Yeah, I wanted to be in Kansas City, I told them that.”

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> admitted referees missed multiple calls in favor of the Philadelphia 76ers in their loss to the New York Knicks in Game 2 on Monday. The Sixers were left fuming from the Madison Square Garden as the hosts turned things around in the final seconds.



In its Last Two Minute (L2M) report, the league states Tyrese Maxey was fouled both by Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson in the melee that resulted in Donte DiVincenzo’s three-pointer that put the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-knicks">Knicks</a> ahead with 13.0 seconds to go.



“Brunson (NYK) pulls Maxey’s (PHI) jersey away from his body, which affects Maxey’s ability to secure the pass,” reads the report. “Hart (NYK) steps forward into Maxey’s (PHI) space and initiates lower body contact that causes Maxey to lose his balance and fall to the floor.”



In addition, the L2M report also admits 76ers head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nick-nurse">Nick Nurse</a> called for a timeout in those frenetic final seconds that “is neither recognized nor granted by the officials.”

<h2>Embiid ripped refs after second loss to Knicks</h2>



The Sixers left the Big Apple feeling they were prevented from putting things level in the series. Speaking to reporters after the game, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/joel-embiid">Joel Embiid</a> put his team’s second loss on the referees.

“Everybody on the floor was trying to call a timeout,” Embiid said, via Sixers Wire. “Myself included. Nico (Batum), coach on the sideline, but they didn’t give it to us, but forget about a timeout. There’s a bunch of fouls—like I said, that’s (expletive) unacceptable.”



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers">76ers</a> big man immediately defended Maxey, who lost the ball in the play that resulted in the Knicks’ late comeback. Furious with the officiating, Embiid called on the refs to improve. 



“He (Maxey) did his job. That’s on the league. That’s on the NBA. That’s on the freaking referees,” Embiid said. “I hate to put the game on them, but I’m sure the 2-minute report is gonna come out and we’re gonna see what happened, but like I said, that’s unacceptable.”



<h2>Nurse also complained</h2>



Sixers head coach Nick Nurse was also disappointed at the officiating, claiming his call for a timeout was overlooked by the refs despite being close to them on the court.

“The first thing is, obviously, they score, we take a look at getting it in quick, we don’t get it in quick. I call timeout. Referee looked right at me, ignored me, went into Tyrese, I called timeout again, then the melee started,” Nurse said. “I mean, I don’t know. I guess I gotta run onto the floor or do something to make sure and get his attention, but we needed a timeout there to advance it. That would’ve been good, but couldn’t get it.“



The series now moves to the City of Brotherly Love, with Game 3 scheduled for Thursday and Game 4 for Sunday. The 76ers will be looking to bounce back at the Wells Fargo Center to force a Game 5.

According to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/germany">German</a> outlet Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung, a group of soccer players in Germany is planning to come out as gay collectively next month as part of an initiative to break down the walls in the sport.



The project encouraged by openly gay former footballer Marcus Urban through his association Diversero is called “Sports Free“, with May 17th – the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia – as the suggested date for the announcement.



“May 17th is an offer, a date that you could use as a guide and get together as a group,” said Urban, whose organization is in contact with the players who are planning to collectively declare their homosexuality.



<h2>Bundesliga teams behind the project</h2>



Several <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/bundesliga">Bundesliga</a> clubs are understood to be backing this initiative, with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/borussia-dortmund">Borussia Dortmund</a>, Union Berlin, FC St. Pauli, SC Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart reportedly providing financial support for the “Sports Free” project.

The planned group outing is not reduced to players though, with referees, coaches and other people involved in the sport also encouraged to reveal their sexuality via a platform that will go online in the coming weeks. The announcements can be through pictures, texts, videos, alone or with a partner.

There will also be a documentary titled “Hide and Seek” following the individual processes of the players in question leading up to the coming out. But the idea is to let athletes in general feel free to declare their sexuality as well, as the platform will tell stories of basketball, football, rugby and cricket players, some of whom already came out years ago. “The soccer players will see that they are just a small building block in a big game,” said Urban.



<h2>Homosexuality still a taboo in German soccer</h2>



Former Germany national team player Thomas Hitzlsperger became the first player from his country to come out as gay on January 8, 2014, shortly after hanging up his boots.



Many thought that would encourage others to feel safe to come out and trigger a movement in the sport, but 10 years later, not much has changed neither in the sport nor in Germany. The “Sports Free” project now aims to do that.

“Everybody on the floor was trying to call a timeout,” Embiid said, via Sixers Wire. “Myself included. Nico (Batum), coach on the sideline, but they didn’t give it to us, but forget about a timeout. There’s a bunch of fouls—like I said, that’s (expletive) unacceptable.”

Speaking to the media, Embiid defended Tyrese Maxey, who lost the ball in the play that led to back-to-back threes.



“He did his job. That’s on the league. That’s on the NBA. That’s on the freaking referees,” Embiid said. “I hate to put the game on them, but I’m sure the 2-minute report is gonna come out and we’re gonna see what happened, but like I said, that’s unacceptable. No, that’s not on him. That’s not on any of us. We fought for 47 minutes and whatever 20 seconds and for that to happen up 4? That’s not OK.”

The series now heads to Philly with the Knicks leading 2-0, putting the Sixers in a tough spot to make the next round. Even so, Embiid looks extremely confident his team will end up getting the job done. 



“We should be 2-0 so we’re good,” Embiid said. “We’re gonna win this series. We’re gonna win this. We know what we gotta fix. We did a better job today so we’re gonna fix it, but we’re the better team. We’re gonna keep fighting.”

One of the biggest questions around the team has to do with the WR room, as its production was extremely poor in 2023 despite the ring. But the kid has always worked hard here for us and I know he’s been down there with Pat and I think it’s a matter of him staying healthy and I think if he can do that, he can really do a lot of great things in this offense.“



Toney struggled with injuries, drops and other mistakes in a season where only rookie wideout Rashee Rice seemed to be a reliable target for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Mahomes</a>. Veach is still a huge admirer of the 25-year-old, but admits that he needs to be healthy to deliver.

“That’s one of the things — there’s a lot of speculation about KT, but I don’t think we ever stopped believing in him,” Veach added. “I think people around the building like him. It’s the injury bug, hopefully he gets some luck on his side and can stay healthy and can be the player that he was in Florida and the player that we’ve seen in spurts here. [I’m] just hoping he has a good offseason and has a little luck on his side and can stay healthy.”

Toney seemed to have his days numbered in Kansas City in the final stretch of last season, as a drop that led to an interception in Week 15 against the Patriots cost him playing time in the remainder of the campaign.



He even contradicted his team’s report that claimed he was injured, but that seeems to be water under the bridge now. Just like Veach, head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/andy-reid">Andy Reid</a> made it clear how highly he thinks of Toney.



“Kadarius is arguably one of the most talented guys we have on the team,” Reid said. “It’s just a matter of staying healthy and being able to stay on the field. I’m expecting him to come back ripping and ready to go. It’s great that he’s down there working with Pat and putting the work in so that’s a positive. We like Kadarius. It’s just a matter of having him on the field.”



Reid and everyone at Arrowhead certainly expect Toney to turn up his level in 2024. Last year, the former first-rounder caught just 27 passes for 169 yards and only one touchdown. Mahomes managed to take Kansas City to yet another championship regardless, but the front office expects he gets more help next time. And Toney could be crucial for that.

The report claims the 28-year-old is seen as a player who could help the club raise funds for other signings next season. The English international came off the bench most games this season, but he did play from the get-go in crucial fixtures.



Grealish made 33 appearances across all competitions this term, with only three goals and three assists. But while he made just nine starts in 17 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/premier-league">Premier League</a> matches, the winger made the starting lineup for big clashes such as the Champions League quarterfinal tie against Real Madrid and the FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea.

“This year, at the start of the season I had a dead leg which kept me out for a month and then I didn’t play too often. I don’t think my form was the best and I wasn’t playing with a lot of confidence. In the new year, I had a few injuries again as well with my groin. Recently, obviously I haven’t scored yet, but I feel good, I feel fit and I feel like I’m playing with good confidence.”

The Golden State Warriors enter the offseason with a big decision to make as <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/klay-thompson">Klay Thompson</a>‘s contract runs out. Draymond Green, who was in a similar situation last year, made it clear he wants Thompson to stay, but would totally understand if he prefers to go elsewhere.



“I personally want Klay to come back. We all do. But if Klay ultimately decides that he wants something else for himself, for his life, [he’s] got my utmost love and support because what we’ve done together can never be taken away,” Green said during a recent episode of his podcast, via Sports Illustrated. “The brotherhood that we built will not change at all. But we do want to finish.”



Green and Thompson have played an instrumental role in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors">Warriors</a>‘ four championships in the last decade, contributing to one of the greatest dynasties in sports history.



But Klay left a lot to be desired this season, averaging 17.9 points per game while shooting 43.2 of his field goals with 38.7 from beyond the arc. He hit rock bottom in the Play-In loss to the Sacramento Kings, finishing the game scoreless as he missed all 10 field goal attempts and six three-point shots. Even so, Green hopes the Warriors’ core can run things back in 2024-25.

“I ultimately hope that he’s back here, that we can all close this thing out together the way we’ve done it, continue to chase after the things we know are out there for us, which is winning championships, continuing to bring more success to a franchise than anyone can imagine. Besides Joe [Lacob]. Joe definitely imagined, but nobody else imagined. You don’t have the opportunity to finish with the guys you started with often, and we have that opportunity,” Green added.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chris-paul">Chris Paul</a> could be on the Spurs’ radar if the Dubs part with him before his contract for next season in the Bay area becomes guaranteed on June 28.



“A potential team to watch, should Paul and the Warriors part ways, is San Antonio,” Stein said. “Among the early personnel rumbles in circulation: The Spurs could emerge as a Paul suitor if they decide to pursue some veteran know-how on a short-term contract basis to furnish presumptive Rookie of the Year winner Victor Wembanyama with more seasoned help in Year 2.”



Paul, 38, comes from a lackluster season with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors">Warriors</a>, averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 assists in 58 games, 40 of them coming off the bench. The Dubs now have until June 28 to decide whether his $30 million salary for next season becomes guaranteed or if he’s free to go.

Wembanyama had a fantastic first season in the league, putting him in pole position to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award. <h2>Chris Paul not retiring anytime soon</h2>



Even though he’s been demoted to the bench for the first time in his career and struggled to make an impact with the second unit, Paul is not ready to call it a career yet.



CP3 is planning to play in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> for a 20th season, though it’s unclear whether it will be in Golden State or elsewhere. Paul may have not shone for the Dubs, but he could still be useful for a team looking for veteran presence in the locker room.



“I think for me, I showed the ability to adapt and change,” Paul said about his season with the Warriors. “But first and foremost, I’m a competitor. I want to hoop and I just love to play. I love to play; I love to contribute. I think it’s a big summer. I got to get back to work.”



<h2>Warriors still consider re-signing Paul</h2>



There’s still a chance Paul comes back to the Warriors next season, but it looks like that will only be possible if he accepts a lower salary.

“I think admittedly he probably wished he had a larger role and could help the team a little bit more, but I think moving forward because of his production and the guy can still do it and what he means to winning and all that stuff, we certainly have interest in bringing him back,” said Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy, who traded Jordan Poole to get Paul from Washington in the last offseason.

The visitors opened the scoring only two minutes into the game thanks to an own goal by Franco Negri. But it didn’t take long for the hosts to bounce back, with Messi making things level after 11′. 28 minutes later, the Argentine star assisted <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/sergio-busquets">Sergio Busquets</a> from a corner kick to turn things around. Before coming back from the break, Smith decided to play the second half with Joe Willis between the sticks.

“Look, again, some wonderful work from Elliot. Barca president Joan Laporta released a statement on Monday addressing this situation.



“There were several debatable incidents in the match, but amongst all of them there is one that is crucial and can change the result of the game,” Laporta said on Monday, as quoted by ESPN. “I am referring to the ‘phantom goal’ by Lamine Yamal. As a club, we want to be sure about what happened. It is for that reason we will make an immediate request for a comprehensive collection of footage and audio from the incident.“



With the score 1-1 in the first half, Yamal’s effort appeared to cross the line before Andriy Lunin cleared the ball away. But unlike the Premier League, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/la-liga">LaLiga</a> doesn’t have goal-line technology, which is why VAR had to intervene and determined the ball didn’t go in.



In his statement, Laporta warned <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/barcelona">Barcelona</a> will ask for the match to be replayed if it is found that VAR made a mistake in not awarding the goal. Madrid went on to win 3-2 thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Jude Bellingham, moving 11 points clear of the Cules atop the LaLiga standings with six rounds to go.

However, what Laporta overlooked is that the game was ultimately not replayed as a Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport ended up overturning the decision. Besides, that episode was related to encroachment before a penalty kick and not a phantom goal.

Denver Nuggets head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/michael-malone">Michael Malone</a> doesn’t look worried about facing the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2023-24 NBA playoffs. Last year, they gained the upper hand against LeBron James and company in the Conference finals.



“We swept them last year. We swept them this year,” said Malone, as quoted by Harrison Wind. “They come in playing really well and hungry. They want to flip that script. Our players understand that. We know them, they know us. We know what to expect.”



The truth is the Nuggets have been dominant against the Lakers as of late. Last year, Nikola Jokic and company swept the purple and gold in the Western Conference Finals en route to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> championship.



On top of that, Denver went 9-0 against Darvin Ham’s team the last nine times they met. The last three wins by the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/denver-nuggets">Nuggets</a> were by double digit, so one can understand Malone’s confidence, even if it sounds strange to hear a coach say that.

<h2>Malone knows Lakers are very motivated to beat Nuggets</h2>



However, as optimistic as he looks about his team’s chances, Malone also understands the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers">Lakers</a> will head into this series with a bigger desire to get revenge and prove their doubters wrong.

The Nuggets head coach is well aware Denver became the team to beat by winning the championship last year, but if the rest of the league wants to take them down, Lakers want it even more after losing so much in their last matchups.



“Come Saturday, there are 15 other teams that want what we have. We have the world championship trophy and everybody’s trying to take it from us,” Malone said. “You win a championship and now comes a very hungry Laker team who is pissed off that we’ve beaten them eight-straight times.”



<h2>LeBron James draws praise from Malone</h2>



Malone’s confidence on the Nuggets and their recent record over the Lakers doesn’t mean he’s taking anything for granted, especially since <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james">LeBron James</a> will be on the other side.



“It’s year 21, and the guy is getting better. He had a career year from the three-point line. It’s really amazing when you sit back as a fan of the game, it’s really incredible. I hope he gets tired. I hope he wears down,” Malone said. “But I’ve seen no signs of LeBron James slowing down by any means and I think it’s gonna be another challenge for our group.”
