Inter Miami’s current form in Major League Soccer is far from ideal, and Lionel Messi’s squad has been unable to turn things around. Following a tough loss in the Florida derby against Orlando City, the Herons’ front office made a decisive move, agreeing to the signing of a veteran Mexican-American goalkeeper with extensive experience in his career.
A string of disappointing results under head coach Javier Mascherano has pushed Inter’s decision-makers to take action. The club has secured the arrival of a new player, an experienced GK expected to bring leadership and stability between the posts.
The latest development confirms the signing of experienced goalkeeper William Yarbrough, who joins the squad to compete head-to-head with Oscar Ustari and Drake Callender. The Argentine has seen the most minutes in recent matches.
Despite their recent run of poor results, the Herons remain in a competitive position in the Eastern Conference standings, currently sitting in sixth place and well within the playoff picture.

William Yarbrough #50 of the Colorado Rapids celebrates after a goal by Jonathan Lewis #7 in the 84′ against Sporting Kansas City during a Group D match as part of the MLS Is Back Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on July 17, 2020 in Reunion, Florida.
Yarbrough brings experience to Inter Miami
Inter Miami’s decision to bring William Yarbrough into the squad likely reflects a need for the veteran’s experience, as the team looks to strengthen one of the most vulnerable areas in its roster.

The goalkeeper officially began his professional career back in 2010, making his debut in Mexican football with Pachuca. Before arriving in MLS, he also played for Tampico Madero, Titanes Tulancingo, and most notably, Leon.
In 2020, Yarbrough joined the Colorado Rapids, where he also spent time with the club’s second team. His most recent stint was with the San Jose Earthquakes before making the move to Inter Miami.
Yarbrough’s excitement to join the Herons
With the arrival of the new goalkeeper now confirmed, William Yarbrough spoke to the media and shared his excitement about this new chapter in his career, as he joins forces with Lionel Messi in hopes of helping Inter Miami get back on track.
“I’m proud and excited to join Inter Miami. I’ve followed the Club’s growth, and to now be part of that journey is something I truly value. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, competing every day, and doing whatever it takes to help the team reach its goals this season,” the experienced player stated.
