Though the Yankees’ Christmas wish list isn’t particularly short, one position is seemingly being prioritized. The Bronx Bombers are in dire need of a closing pitcher. Even though the free-agent pool for bullpen help was quite stacked, New York has had no luck signing some of the biggest names available across <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb">MLB</a>.



That could all change, as the Yankees have been linked to reliever Pete Fairbanks, who remains unsigned in free agency. According to a report, the 32-year-old pitcher will either sign for long-term or agree to a shorter, yet wealthier deal.



“The only closer left is Pete Fairbanks, who should get either multiple years or well over the $11 million option declined by Tampa Bay,” as reported by ESPN insider Jeff Passan.

Moreover, the right-hander has been diagnosed with Raynaud’s syndrome, which can cause numbness and loss of feeling in his hands in very low temperatures. While teams around the league can live with that, it remains a factor to consider when evaluating Fairbanks.

While all signs indicate <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/alex-bregman">Alex Bregman</a> will receive the biggest check from chief baseball officer (CBO) Craig Breslow, a new report has cast doubt over what seemed obvious just days ago.



Out of every player still unsigned in free agency, Bregman is among those with the most suitors yet the fewest certainties about his future. The third baseman is leaving no stone unturned, which has only fueled speculation that the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/boston-red-sox">Red Sox</a> might be left in the dust ahead of the 2026 MLB season. 



According to several reports around the league, Bregman is seeking a long-term deal valued at around—or over—$170 million. However, that essentially sets up a conflict of interest for Breslow and the Red Sox, who aren’t particularly fond of handing that level of job security to veteran <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/mlb">MLB</a> players. Thus, the 30-year-old baseman’s fate may already be written on the wall.



“The [Red Sox] organization has long been questioned about this,” as reported by The Athletic. “Yet it has still made large investments in free agents 30 or older in years past. Under Breslow, that tune has changed starkly with almost exclusively one- and two-year deals in free agency.“

In more ways than one, Boston may have learned its lesson. Whether that means steering away from Bregman or retaining him under a bigger contract—preferably with no opt-outs—remains unknown.

It could also mean that the Phillies are looking for another big move.



<h2>The Royals are getting a pitcher seeking redemption</h2>



Strahm is a good pitcher. He is a good lefty that can absolutely ball. However, he is seeking redemption because of how his Phillies’ career ended. The last time we saw Strahm was in the seventh inning of Game 1 of the NLDS against the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-dodgers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dodgers</a>. He gave up a three-run home run to Teoscar Hernandez that sealed the win for the Dodgers. Strahm said that the team didn’t do enough field practice and that sparked a back and forth with Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowksi.
