<p>There have been <strong>over 110 editions of the World Series</strong> and 24 out of the 30 active MLB teams can brag about having at least one<a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mlb/mlb-all-time-world-series-champions-by-year-20200724-0001.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> World Series title</a>. Even so, there are some clubs that are still waiting to wrap their hands around the commissioner’s trophy once and for all.</p>

<p><strong>Not all <a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mlb/15-biggest-mlb-rivalries-of-all-time-20200727-0002.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLB teams</a> are suited to become World Series champions.</strong> It takes a lot of consistency to compete for such a long season but you also need to stay healthy and, why not, even have luck on your side more often than not.</p>
<p>Teams have to endure a 162-game season but records simply don’t matter when they reach the postseason. A good final stretch can lead an underdog all the way to the ultimate stage,<strong> as we’ve seen it before.</strong></p>
<p>Baseball is a game of passion so you can never lose hope. The day will also come for those unlucky<strong> six <a href="https://www.mlb.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MLB</a> teams that haveyet to win their first World Series title</strong>, and we’ll let you know everything about them.</p>

<p><strong>The Tampa Bay Rays</strong> have been slowly working their way through contention and, despite their ups and downs and the lack of a supportive fanbase, they even won an American League pennant in 2008. <strong>Sadly, they lost 4-1 in the World Series vs. the Phillies.</strong></p>
<p>There has even been some talk about <strong>potentially relocating the Rays</strong> to a bigger market so the team could finally take a step forward toward contention, but that’s a conversation for another day.</p>

<p><strong>The Colorado Rockies </strong>have had their fair share of struggles throughout their history. They’re far from being a perennial contender and had never made it to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons until 2017 and 2018.</p>
<p><strong>The Rockies did make the World Series in 2007 </strong>but the Boston Red Sox were just too much to handle and swept them. They’ve struggled to win a playoffs series ever since and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change any time soon.</p>

<p><strong>The Seattle Mariners </strong>have seen some of the greatest players of all-time break out with their team<strong>. Ken Griffey Jr, Álex Rodríguez, Randy Johnson, Ichiro Suzuki, Edgar Martínez, Félix Hernández, </strong>you name it, they’ve had it all.</p>
<p>Even so,<strong> they have never made it to the World Series </strong>and are currently sitting on a 17-year playoff drought, which also happens to be the longest in all Major League Baseball. How does that even happen?</p>

<h2>Texas Rangers</h2>

<p><strong>The Texas Rangers</strong> have been pretty close to the glory over the past decade but they’ve never been able to seal the deal when it mattered the most. They’ve become steady contenders for a playoffs berth but constantly underperform in tough situations.</p>
<p><strong>The <a href="https://www.mlb.com/rangers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rangers</a> even made it to back-to-back World Series in 2010 and 2011</strong> but they lost to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively. Hopefully, they’ll get back to the Fall Classic again in no time.</p>
<h2>Milwaukee Brewers</h2>

<p><strong>The Milwaukee Brewers</strong> are perhaps the MLB team with the best tradition and culture of all in this list. They have a strong and supportive fanbase and have been around the league long enough to win – at least – a World Series title but it just hasn’t happened yet.</p>
<p><strong>The Brewers were pretty close to winning the World Series in 1982</strong>, when they faced their lifelong fans St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. They almost made it back in 2018 but the Dodgers beat them in seven games in the NLCS.</p>
<h2>San Diego Padres</h2>

<p>The<strong> San Diego Padres</strong> have the smallest market in California and that has been quite tough to overcome considering their lack of playoffs success and how much the team has struggled throughout history.</p>
<p><strong>They did make it to a couple of World Series in 1984 and 1998 </strong>but both times they had to deal with incredibly overpowered teams, the Detroit Tigers and the 114-game-winners New York Yankees. Tough luck.</p>

However, perhaps none of them have been as iconic as the very first edition, the 1903 World Series between the <strong>Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates.</strong></p>

<p>That’s why today, we’re going to walk you through everything that happened before, during, and after the 1903 World Series, <strong>one of the most important moments in the history of major sports.</strong></p>
<h2>Pre World Series era</h2>
<p>Long before the American League existed, the <strong>American Association (AA) and the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players (NAPBBP)</strong> were the two major organizations for professional baseball in the United States.</p>
<p>The NAPBBP ceased to exist in 1875 and<strong> </strong>the<strong> National League (NL)</strong>was born the next season. But before the was a World Series to determine the champion of professional baseball, the teams with the best regular-season record on each league were awarded the title without any kind of postseason.</p>

<h2>Original World Series</h2>
<p>Then, from 1884 to 1890, the ‘winning’ team of the National League faced the winners of the American Association <strong>to determine the champion of baseball.</strong> Teams and owners agreed on several terms like the length of the series (from 3 to 15 games), locations, and other minor rule changes for every edition.</p>
<p>Two of those editions (1885 and 1890) even ended up with a tie, and both associations couldn’t even agree on a name for this series. It was called the <strong>World Series Championship, World Series, and The Championship of the United States.</strong></p>
<h2>National League Monopoly and the Temple Cup</h2>
<p>The American Association ceased to exist after the 1891 season as it just couldn’t compete with the National League. Plenty of its teams defected to join the NL right away, <strong>thus making it the only professional baseball league in the country.</strong></p>
<p>The 1892 champion was settled after a series between two half-season champions, but that scheme only lasted for one season. Then, in 1893, <strong>the team with the best record was crowned at the end of the season.</strong></p>
<p>The NL then tried a different format where the team with the best record faced the runner-up in a postseason series called the <strong>Temple Cup. </strong>This went from 1894 to 1897 but shortly after the American League was born in 1891.</p>
<p>And with the American League and National League fighting for the supremacy of the market, there wasn’t even a champion in 1901 and 1902, leaving the door wide open<strong> for the creation of the modern World Series.</strong></p>

<h2>1903 World Series: First AL Champion</h2>
<p>Both leagues agreed to stop fighting and most of their teams played some interleague exhibition games in 1903. However, there wasn’t a better way to prove that they could coexist <strong>than having their best two teams going toe-to-toe.</strong></p>
<p>Thus, the leagues agreed on terms for the very first World Series. <strong>The Pittsburgh Pirates</strong> had been – by far – the best team in the NL, while the <strong>Boston Americans (<a href="https://www.mlb.com/redsox" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Red Sox</a>) </strong>have done the same in the Junior Circuit.</p>
<p>Pirates and Americans faced off on a better-to-nine series, with Boston upsetting the Pirates thanks to<strong> CY Young’s</strong><a href="https://us.bolavip.com/mlb/Top-25-most-dominating-pitchers-in-MLB-history-20200504-0001.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> historically dominant pitching</a>. Also, Pittsburgh was riddled by injuries and lost the final three games in a row.</p>
<p>This World Series title was the ultimate statement. It proved that the American League could keep up with the National League and that there was plenty of room and market for both of them. <strong>The rest, as you know, it’s history.</strong></p>
