That was the case with a New York Yankees pitcher who threw a perfect game in 2023, only to fall into a winless stretch ever since.

It was during the 2023 season that the Yankees witnessed the 24th perfect game in MLB history—and just the fourth in franchise history. The 11-0 win over the Oakland Athletics came without Judge in the lineup, as he was sidelined with a toe injury and only played two games that month.

But even without Judge present, the glory of that night belonged to a pitcher who had already spent six seasons in pinstripes. His journey included missing part of the 2019 postseason and a 63-game suspension during the 2020 season due to domestic violence allegations.

After the perfect outing on June 28, Germán made five more appearances with the Yankees—two of them official losses, and three no-decisions, including a July 3 win over the Orioles. His last time sharing the field with Judge was July 31. He never pitched again for the Yankees after that.

He made six appearances without a decision and suffered one official loss on September 4 in what would become his final professional game: a 0-12 blowout loss to the Cubs. As of June 2025, Germán remains unsigned by any professional baseball team.
