The New York Mets lost both of their games on Sunday, and many are beginning to question the job status of Carlos Mendoza.

The two losses at the hands of the Colorado Rockies were another blow for the New York Mets. Their poor performance so far in the 2026 MLB season has put Carlos Mendoza under intense scrutiny, and he made it clear that his only concern right now is lifting his team up.

The only thing I’m worried about is getting the guys going…my job is to find a way to get those guys out of the funk,” the manager said during his press conference when asked about his job status. 1–3 and 0–3 were the final scores for the Mets, who can’t get their heads up.

The offensive struggles are undoubtedly something that still has no answers in Queens, at least not for Mendoza. “I’ve never seen anything like this, to be honest with you,” he said.

Juan Soto recently defended the work not only of Carlos Mendoza but also of David Stearns. Even so, if results don’t begin to improve, certain drastic changes could take place in the short term.

The least desired season for the Mets

The New York Mets have had a nightmarish start to the 2026 season, currently sitting at a dismal 9-19 record following their double-header sweep against the Rockies. Despite entering the year with high expectations and a star-studded roster, the team has lost 14 of their last 16 games, struggling to find any offensive consistency or reliable pitching.

For a franchise that invested heavily in a “win-now” roster bringing names such as Bo Bichette, seeing them stuck at the bottom of the NL East is nothing short of a major disappointment for the fans in Queens.

What’s next for New York?

To turn their season around, the Mets will stay at Citi Field for a crucial three-game series against the Washington Nationals, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28. After that, they will head to the West Coast for a road trip, beginning with a series against the Los Angeles Angels on May 1st, followed by a rematch against the Colorado Rockies in Denver. This upcoming stretch is vital for the team to find its rhythm and climb out of the bottom of the division.
