Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has openly criticized the current schedule, emphasizing the importance of adequate rest for players. Also, Lionel Messi’s absence from Tuesday’s All-Star training session, fueled persistent rumors about his potential absence from the event.
According to MLS rules, if Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba decide not to attend the 2025 All-Star game, they would face a one-game suspension. With this, they would miss the important game against Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati. The only way to avoid this sanction would be with an official injury report or an exception granted by the league, something that has not yet happened.
In regard to Messi’s potential absence, MLS All-Star manager Nico Estevez broke the silence on the matter. “That’s a question for his club. I simply coach and manage the players they give me… I hope he (Messi) does come, because having the greatest player in history here is very important for everyone,” as reported by Miami Herald.

Absent from the 2025 MLS All-Star Game, however, are Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez. Despite their impressive performances, neither of these seasoned veterans were selected for the roster this time around.
