Santiago Sosa is the latest big money transfer for Atlanta United, the Argentine midfielder comes to MLS at a whopping $6 million transfer fee. The 21-year-old was only able to play 14 league games in a stacked River Plate side, but he was regarded as one of the club’s biggest prospects going forward for Marcelo Gallardo. River Plate in need of selling talents was not able to say no to Atlanta United’s big money offer. Despite the big transfer, Sosa will not count as a DP, at the moment, the current DP slots belong to Marcelino Moreno, Ezequiel Barco, and Josef Martínez.
Santiago Sosa will be the clubs sixth Argentine on the Atlanta roster and he will play in his customary holding midfield position. Sosa made his big-league debut against Racing Club in a Copa Libertadores match in 2018 and later went on to make his Argentine league debut that same season against Lanus.
Santiago Sosa has also played for the Argentine U-20’s having played in 13 games and went on to represent Argentina in the 2019 U-20 World Cup. Carlos Bocanegra stated that Sosa is “a holding midfielder who understands and reads the game exceptionally well for someone his age… He broke through into the First Team at River last year, experiencing numerous big matches in both Copa Libertadores and the Copa Diego Maradona, in addition to his time with Argentina U-20s.”

Santiago Sosa was born in La, Plata Argentina, he is 5ft 10 inches in height and began playing for youth club Mercedes before moving to South American giants River Plate in 2008. Marcelo Gallardo was bringing Sosa along slowly, but his good form attracted the attention of English Premier League club Everton until Atlanta came calling.
In total, Sosa played 21 games for River Plate between Copa Libertadores and First division games, he was able to win three titles for the Argentine giants. Sosa was on the championship teams that won Copa Libertadores in 2018, Recopa 2019, and Copa Argentina in 2019.
