Following Team Italy’s heartbreaking semifinal exit at the hands of Venezuela, former New York Yankees legend Jorge Posada addressed the growing buzz regarding his potential future as a Major League manager.

“This is hard, Jeet. The game is at 8:00, but I have to be here at 1:30, and we’re the last ones to leave. I’ll never say never, but it’s just a massive commitment, prepping, video work, and scouting takes a lot out of you, Posada revealed during an MLB Network segment with Derek Jeter.

Posada and the “Azzurri” shocked the baseball world with an undefeated 4-0 run in pool play—including a surprising win over Team USA—before taking down Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals to reach the final four.

Despite the “Never Say Never” disclaimer, the transition from special consultant to full-time skipper represents a lifestyle shift that Posada appears to be weighing with extreme caution.

Posada’s international coaching debut

A primary factor in Posada’s hesitation may be his relatively thin coaching resume, as his post-playing career has consisted primarily of guest instructor roles and occasional consulting for the Yankees.

While he may require more seasoning on a traditional coaching staff before taking the reins of an MLB franchise, his performance in this tournament has undeniably elevated his stock in front office circles.

Is a reunion with the Yankees realistic?

For now, any talk of Posada taking over the Yankees’ dugout remains purely speculative, particularly with the front office continuing to show steadfast confidence in incumbent manager Aaron Boone.

Whether it’s as a bench coach or a future managerial candidate, Jorge Posada’s path back to the Bronx seems like a matter of “when,” not “if,” should he decide to embrace the grind.
