The Denver Nuggets are still among the top four teams in the Western Conference. Their strong start to the season keeps them there. However, they are now struggling after back-to-back losses. Head coach Michael Malone did not hold back after those defeats. He criticized the team’s performance and warned of potential consequences if things do not improve.

“Yeah, that was embarrassing. That was just a joke. Who are we kidding? Eleven games to go, and that is the effort we put forth? I am embarrassed by that game—by our approach and how we played…If we continue to play the way we are playing, we will be in the play-in tournament. Very simple. That is just the way it is. And I think each guy’s got to look themselves in the mirror and start coming to each respective game with the proper mindset—and have some pride,” stated Michael Malone.

The Nuggets managed to defeat the Golden State Warriors without Nikola Jokic. However, their recent losses exposed how unsustainable his absence would be long term. The team relies heavily on its superstar. Jokic is not only Denver’s top scorer but also their primary playmaker. His impact on the team’s system is difficult to replace.

To mitigate the impact of any potential Jokic absence, Malone must find ways to maximize the contributions of key players like Jamal Murray and Russell Westbrook. Their ability to step up will be crucial in ensuring the Nuggets remain playoff-bound.

Is the absence of Nikola Jokic to blame for the Denver Nuggets’ poor performance?

Nikola Jokic’s absence clearly disrupts the Denver Nuggets’ structure. His versatility allows him to take on several key roles. This makes replacing him incredibly difficult. However, head coach Michael Malone cannot use Jokic’s absence as an excuse.

Injuries have not solely affected Nuggets. Franchises such as The Los Angeles Lakers have also dealt with significant injury setbacks but still managed to stay competitive. Malone must do the same by finding strategies to maintain balance and keep the Nuggets performing well without Jokic.

If the Denver Nuggets want to become serious NBA title contenders, they must learn to win without Nikola Jokic. His impact is enormous, and the team struggles when he is unavailable. Michael Malone must focus on giving Aaron Gordon a bigger role. Gordon has shown he can step up when Jokic is out. Russell Westbrook also plays a key role in maintaining balance. His ability to control the tempo and contribute on both ends is crucial for Denver’s success.
