NFL News: Russell Wilson sends bold message to Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers after joining the Giants

Russell Wilson joined the New York Giants for the 2025 NFL season and broke his silence to talk about Aaron Rodgers, who is likely to take his QB1 spot on the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition, Russ made sure to send an indirect reference for his former team.

The arrival of Russell Wilson to the New York Giants resolved one of the most intriguing mysteries of the 2025 NFL offseason. Aaron Rodgers, who still needs to give a final answer to the Pittsburgh Steelersā€˜ offer, had been targeted by Russ’s new team, creating a silent competition between the two veteran Super Bowl champions as they searched for a new team.

Rodgers has yet to decide his future for the next season and is taking his time to do so. The most likely scenario is that he becomes the Steelers’ starting quarterback, a position that belonged to Wilson last season. Now, it’s time for the former Seattle Seahawks player to look ahead.

It was Russ himself who made it clear that he would have liked to play in Pittsburgh, but there was no interest in offering him an extension after he became a free agent. Now, the 36-year-old quarterback has things to say and made sure to clarify some points for Rodgers and the Steelers.

Wilson’s message to Rodgers

ā€œAaron Rodgers is a tremendous football player. He’s done some amazing things in this league. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to do some great things, too,ā€ Wilson said about Rodgers, via a transcript from the Giants. The praise was accompanied by a self-reference that is not accidental.

Wilson has also made it clear that he wants to focus on his new chapter with the Giants and has referenced Pittsburgh’s lack of interest. ā€œWhat I’m focused on is right now is what we can do here. That’s been my focus since I signed. Also, too, along the way is finding a place that will continue to believe in you,ā€ he said.

Wilson must fight for the QB1 job on the Giants

Joining the Giants is no guarantee of a starting role for Wilson, who has signed with a franchise that also added quarterback Jameis Winston. After spending a year competing with Justin Fields for the job in Pittsburgh, the 36-year-old veteran will once again have to prove he still has plenty left to offer. ā€œI’m expecting to come in there and be a starter,ā€ Wilson admitted.
