Xavier Worthy was one of the Kansas City Chiefsā€˜ brightest spots in the 2024 NFL season, which didn’t end well for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. But with the Super Bowl LIX loss now behind them, Worthy’s impressive rookie year is one of the reasons the teams can head into the 2025 campaign with renewed optimism.

The Texas Longhorns product, besides, is willing to do whatever it takes to help the Chiefs succeed. Whether as a primary weapon for Mahomes or as a punt returner, the wideout let Reid know how much the team can count on him.

ā€œPunt return, I’ll do anything the team needs me to do, however they need me to do it,ā€ Worthy told reporters after Sunday’s training camp practice, as quoted by Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

After seeing Worthy set the 40-yard dash record of 4.21 at last year’s NFL Combine, the Chiefs didn’t hesitate to trade up in the 2024 Draft to land the wideout. And it didn’t take him long to live up to the hype.

Worthy got off to a strong start to life in the NFL with a productive debut in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, immediately proving Reid and Mahomes what a difference he’s capable of making in offense.

In fact, he was one of the few players who had a decent performance in Super Bowl LIX, catching eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Worthy knows the Chiefs operate as a team

Now it’s time to take the lessons learned as a rookie to become an even bigger contributor in his second year. But Worthy is positive about one thing―he’s not the only one who can help Mahomes and Reid take this franchise back to glory days.

ā€œOur whole room, everybody, the RBs, the TEs, we’ve got a lot of weapons on the team,ā€ said Worthy, who knows that many eyes will be on him in his second NFL season with the Chiefs.
