Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi addresses his future after Champions League final loss to PSG

Paris Saint-Germain claimed the 2025 UEFA Champions League title with a 5–0 victory over Inter Milan in Saturday’s final at Allianz Arena in Munich. After the match, the head coach of the Italian side, Simone Inzaghi, spoke about what might happen with him looking ahead to next season.

“My future? We will see in the next days,” Inzaghi said during the post-match press conference in Germany. “I will meet with the club and we will assess the situation together. We’ll start talking about all of this.”

When asked directly about what lies ahead, the head coach responded: “This is not the right time to talk about that,” although he acknowledged that recent results could play a key role in the decision. “The fact that we haven’t won any trophies will obviously be a topic of conversation,” he said.

This season, Inter Milan came close to capturing major silverware but fell short in crucial moments. In addition to the defeat to PSG in the Champions League final, they were eliminated by AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals with a 4–1 aggregate loss. They also pushed Napoli to the final matchday in the Serie A title race but ultimately failed to secure the championship.

Inzaghi acknowledged PSG were the better side

During the press conference, Simone Inzaghi offered a candid assessment of the match. “We faced a team that deserved much more and won the Champions League. They were the better team. Huge credit to PSG,” said the coach. “They dominated us with relentless pressure. They deserve the win. We didn’t do what was needed. We didn’t play our best soccer.”

However, Inzaghi also noted that certain factors affected his team’s performance, including a lack of rest following a decisive Serie A match. “We were maybe more tired than PSG… We were fighting for the league until last Friday, and PSG won their league two months ago.”

The rumors surrounding Inzaghi’s future

In the weeks leading up to the Champions League final, Simone Inzaghi was the subject of speculation regarding an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, which reportedly offered him between $30 million and $50 million per year. The coach himself acknowledged those rumors in the pre-match press conference earlier this week. “Fortunately, there are offers from Italy, abroad, and from Saudi Arabia, but right now it would be crazy to think about that,” he said.

After the defeat to PSG, Inzaghi declined to comment on a potential move to Al-Hilal, instead focusing on what’s next for Inter Milan, including the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. “A new competition begins in a few weeks,” Simone said. “The club remains a very strong one and supports us. We’ve already signed two players for next season. We know we need to sign more players, but the club has always backed us in victory and in defeat… This is not the first time we’ve been in a tough spot. We’ll bounce back again.”
