Manchester United want to return to the glory years of old, and to do that they need a good defense to match a powerful offense. With rumors around the contract extension of Paul Pogba and the confirmation that Edinson Cavani will return next season, the Red Devils can look to other areas of need.

According to the Manchester Evening News, ManU has their sights set on Pau Torres of Villarreal and are set to make an offer to the Yellow Submarine for his services. The fee would be an estimated €60 million transfer but United are open to do fee plus player swap to lower that price.

If Torres does not materialize then the Red Devils have set their sights on two other targets: Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. Here are all three players chances of signing with Manchester United and what their current status at the moment.

Pau Torres just enjoyed a very good season in Spain and is ManU’s number one target in defense. At €60 million it is doubtful Villarreal will accept less money plus a player for one of their best assets.

Recently let go from Real Madrid after failing to come to terms for a contract extension, Sergio Ramos is still a very good defender. Rumors have it that the Spanish World Cup winner may sign with Manchester City, but on a free, he would be a good pick up for Manchester United. Now will the fans accept another signing over 30? That is the question.

United had their eyes on Raphael Varane during the season but Real Madrid said no to a €55 million transfer. Varane has one more year remaining on his contract and if he is not sold or resigns with Real Madrid, they run the risk of Varane leaving on a free transfer. The Spanish giants need an influx of cash to make their offseason moves so they could accept an offer.
