Major League Soccer teams and players boycotted five regular season games on Wednesdayin a protest overthe shooting of Jacob Blakein Wisconsin on Sunday. After the announcement, MLS teams andplayersexpresed their supportto the decision on Twitter.
The games Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United, FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids, Portland Timbers vs San Jose Earthquakes, Real Salt Lake vs LAFC, andLA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders were all called off. The decision came after Wednesday’s all three NBA Playoffs games were canceled.
But the NBA and the MLS were not the only sports league to postpone games, as the decision was followed by the MLB, which canceled three games(Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners, andMilwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds), and the WNBA.
The Major League Soccerreleased a statementabout the postponed games on Twitter: “Major League Soccer has made the decision to postponethe remaining five matches — Miami-Atlanta, Dallas-Colorado. Real Salt Lake-LAFC, San Jose-Portland, LA Galaxy-Seattle — scheduled for this evening. Each match will be rescheduled”.
